P-SIM 2000 Programmable Logic Controller (Advanced)
- Industrial Application Details
P-SIM 2000 Industrial Applications Software
The Industrial Applications Software consists of
four animated realtime simulations specifically selected for their suitability to demonstrate the
basic concepts of Programmable Controller operation and programming. The P-SIM 2000 Student Lab
Manual leads the student through the creation, and troubleshooting of Ladder Logic Programming.
Application #1: I/O and DataTable Simulator
The Input/Output Simulator includes 8 operable
switches (inputs) and 8 operable lights (outputs). Two Data Table Viewing Windows are supplied which
allows the student to monitor in realtime the status of the I/O bits in the PLC's Data Table along
with the accumulator and preset values of all counters and timers. Data may be displayed in either
binary, hex or decimal format.
Application #2: Automated Filling System
The Automated Filling System consists of an
operable conveyor with position sensing, product hopper with valved discharge, level sensing and a
PLC Data Table Viewing Window. As the Lab Manual leads students in developing their ladder logic
programs, errors such as opening the hopper without a container in position will result in a visual
display of product overflow and eventual plant shutdown.
Application #3: The Intersection Traffic Light Control System
The Intersection Traffic Light Control System
consists of an intersection with 4 traffic lights and automobiles. This is an ideal lab for
demonstrating the use and operation of cascading PLC timer instructions and word comparison
instructions. The student lab manual leads the student through increasingly more difficult
exercises using these instructions. Two Data Table Viewing Windows are available for monitoring
PLC time and data status. Errors in timer settings and control system design will result in
improper light control and traffic flow.
Application #4: Batch Mixing Control System
The Batch Mixing System consists of a tank with a
mixer. Two pump control fill lines are equipped with flow meters, while a single pumped discharge line
with flow meter is available. Temperature of product is monitored and can be raised via the valved gas
operated burner. Product temperature responds accurately to fill cooling by using a specific heat
calculation. Errors in settings of temperature, level sensing devices, etc. will result in overheating,
visual product overflow, and eventual plant shutdown.
