P-SIM 1000 Programmable Logic Controller
- Lesson Details
Testing and Evaluation
Each of the 10 lessons has a "test your knowledge"
section associated with it. There are 8 questions in each of the 10 lessons. At the end of the eighth
question the student may get a summary of the results of the individual test. The summary includes the
score out of 8 as well as the number of attempts per question. The test data is automatically saved to
hard disk. The results may also be saved to a floppy disk. This option is selected by clicking on Quit
from the main menu and selecting SAVE MENU DATA.
After completing all 10 lessons, the student can
get an overall summary of results on all 80 questions. This can be obtained by clicking on the
EVALUATION section under TEST RESULTS from the main menu. The evaluation section is a useful feedback
mechanism as it displays in bar form the number of attempts associated with each question as well as
the overall results. This will help in determining any remedial action.
Test results can be loaded from the floppy disk at
the start of a session. This is done from the TEST RESULTS selection on the main menu.
In addition, test data can be initialized to zero
attempts from the TEST RESULTS selection on the main menu.

Learning Outcome
When you have completed the lessons and tests, you
will have developed the following skills:
- Identify the various components of a relay.
- Identify the various programmable logic controller modules and their functions.
- Produce a relay ladder drawing from an electric circuit.
- Identify the differences and similarities between normally open (examine if closed)
contacts, normally closed (examine if open) contacts, momentary push-button switches, and
maintained push-button switches.
- Produce a ladder logic program from a relay ladder logic circuit.
- Use And, Or and Not logic components in developing a ladder logic program.
- Use On delay timers in developing a ladder logic program.
- Identify the differences between On delay and Off delay timers.
- Use Up counters in developing a ladder logic program.
- Use Latches or Lockins in developing a ladder logic program.
- Use Interlocks in developing a ladder logic program.
- Use Only delay timers, And, Or, Not, logic in developing traffic light application.
- Use a counter, On delay timer, And, Or, Not, logic in developing a conveyor hopper bin
loading application.
Further practice and skills development After
completing P-SIM 1000, the student should practice his/her programming skills on a simulator. The
P-SIM 2000 simulator is an excellent program that emulates a ladder logic development program and
allows the student to test his/her program on a simulated process.
