Question: What is a food process engineer? I have to write a paper on food process engineering and i cant find information anywhere. I have to talk about the salary what they have to do and interesting pprojects. If anyone can find any useful links that would be helpful.
Answer: They oversee the technical end of the business. They make sure the equipment is properly maintained, the products are efficiently made, and that the Quality Control department suggestions are followed. If any improvements to operations can be done, they are
given to the production department to review. An example that was in national news recently was a peanut food manufacturing plant that had problems and made people sick. Obviously, someone was not doing the job there.

Question: Are process engineer considered as industrial engineer? is it easier for process engineer to move towards management level?
Answer: usually process engineers are chemical or mechanical engineers. Sometimes an IE gets such a job. Pretty much any engineer can get into management. It's not difficult to get into lower-level management. A lot of people do it. It's usually a lot harder to get into a position higher than a senior engineer by being a really good engineer.
Question: Process Engineer Salaries in Houston? am a process engineer with 4 years experience. I have some job interviews in Houston at various EPC companies like Bechtel, Shaw Group, Jacobs, etc. I was wondering what the average salary would be since process engineers are in fairly high demand especially in the energy sector. Do you think over 100k is unreasonable? Many people I have talked to are getting salaries well over 100k but I am not sure if that is realistic. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Answer: Hey - I work for a large EPC company (the "other" big EPC company that you didn't mention) with offices in Houston. For any of the big EPCs, 100k is probably unlikely for a process engineer with 4 years experience. Salary range would probably be 70 to 80k, depending on how applicable your previous experience is to EPC work. I know process engineers there with 4 or so years of experience that have been promoted more frequently than normal (high performers) who are making 80k. And the other EPCs are all pretty much the same. If you happen to get an offer from one of the big EPCs for 100k or more, be prepared for 2% or 3% raises for the next few years (Bechtel is famous for this tactic to get people in the door).
If you want that kind of cash, look at a smaller EPC company or an operating company that offers stock options (Shell, Exxon, Conoco Phillips, BP, etc)
Hope this helps.... Let me know what you think....

Question: Pls what are the functions of a process engineer in the oil and gas industry?
Answer: he has to get the material ready, and then cash it in.
Question: I am an Underemployed engineer in the process of loosing my home, How can I make legetimate money on the net? 1. I don't have anything to sell on E-bay, done that nothing left.
2. The pawn shop prices are higher than E-bay can't buy and resell
3. Can't afford the One Source Program.
4. Desparate,
5. Real Help Appreciated!
Answer: Have a good will nearby? Have garage sales in your neighborhood? Go grab some stuff and sell it on ebay. A teacher of mine in high school was doing this with records and books he would get from Good Will and other thrift second hand stores, and he made a pretty good killing at it. Have at it, I think you'll be amazed at what you can sell to people on the internet. That's the only thing I can think of that is downright fast and likely to make you money. Everything else will take you too much time, and besides, you're already familiar with ebay. Just make sure you setup your ebay postings to people are more likely to buy your items (yes, format / pictures / color counts).

Question: What is the process of becoming a genetic engineer? What does one have to do to become a genetic engineer at a top institution/to work in a top research setting? What educational background do you need to have before you can get such a position? (only serious answers please)
Answer: The thing is.. Genetic engineers are basically medical scientists. I’ll explain it all here for you the best I can. Hope it helps.
A Ph.D. typically qualifies people to research basic life processes or particular medical problems and to analyze the results of experiments. Some medical scientists obtain a medical degree instead of a Ph.D., but some do not become licensed physicians because they prefer research to clinical practice. It is particularly helpful for medical scientists to earn both a Ph.D. and a medical degree.
Students planning careers as medical scientists should have a bachelor’s degree in a biological science. In addition to required courses in chemistry and biology, undergraduates should study allied disciplines, such as mathematics, engineering, physics, and computer science, or courses in their field of interest. Once they have completed undergraduate studies, they can then select a specialty for their advanced degree, such as cytology, bioinformatics, genomics, or pathology.
The minimum educational requirement for epidemiologists is a master’s degree from a school of public health. Some jobs may require a Ph.D. or medical degree, depending on the work performed. Epidemiologists who work in hospitals and health care centers often must have a medical degree with specific training in infectious diseases. Some employees in research epidemiology positions are required to be licensed physicians because they must administer drugs in clinical trials.
Few students select epidemiology for undergraduate study. Undergraduates, nonetheless, should study biological sciences and should have a solid background in chemistry, mathematics, and computer science. Once a student is prepared for graduate studies, he or she can choose a specialty within epidemiology. For example, those interested in studying environmental epidemiology should focus on environmental coursework, such as water pollution, air pollution, pesticide use, toxicology, and molecular biology. Other specialties include occupational epidemiology, infection processes, infection control precautions, surveillance methodology, and outbreak investigation. Some epidemiologists begin their careers in other health care occupations, such as registered nurse or medical technologist.
In addition to formal education, medical scientists usually spend some time in a postdoctoral position before they apply for permanent jobs. Postdoctoral work provides valuable laboratory experience, including experience in specific processes and techniques such as gene splicing, which is transferable to other research projects. In some institutions, the postdoctoral position can lead to a permanent job.
Best of luck
Question: I need advice. i'm having a career crisis. i love my current job as a process engineer...? ...but the plant i am working at right now is not yet operating. i've been in the plant for a year now. however, i believe that it will operate soon. i have a job offer in an EPC company but i don't like the job (project engineer). but their offer is better (just a little higher) and it is for a regular position. (i am a project employee in my current company). the hiring manager said he doesn't mind if a transfer to process dept (w/c i love). what should i do? should i go to a better company but not happy? i am thinking of letting fate decide for me. i am thinking of talking to the hiring manager if i can transfer to process even before i start. if he agrees and i get accepted then i should go. if not i will stay in my current job and wait for better opportunities. what do you guys think? thanks so much for the help. i only have 2 weeks to decide before i start work on the new job offer.
Answer: you should accept the offer
Question: What is the typical process to become a structual engineer? Also, are there any graduate schools for structual engineering in the Pacific Northwest, and what states in the PNW does PE licensing, and what can I do with one?
Answer: Hello,
The typical process to become a structural engineer starts with an undergraduate engineering degree, usually CE.
I'm not familiar with the PNW, but each state licenses it's own PE's. Here is a link to the NCEES. They admnister the PE exams.

Question: Process Engineer I/II technical interview questions?? Hey! I do have experience with interviews, but not with ones that have been too technical. I have a huge interview scheduled and I was wondering if there are any process engineers with about a year experience (like me) who can give me a few examples of what kind of chemical/technical questions they have been asked?May be a little more about the typical technical questions? Please help me out on this.
Thanks a lot in advance!
Cheerz!
Answer: Describe (in detail, not generalities) one project where you worked on improving a process. What happened, and how were you involved?
What did you not like about your last job?
You may be asked about time studies, statistical calculations, FMEA's, DOE's, process validations, and others. They won't expect you to be an expert, but they many expect you do know what these mean.
Come with lots of questions to ask, extra resumes, and confidence.

Question: What's the differences between chemical engineering and process engineering? Can anybody tell me the differences and similarities between these two courses? The syllabus, career opportunity, salary, working as chemical engineer, working as process engineer, etc.
Answer: In a Nut shell:
The ChemE writes the recipe.
The Process Eng cooks it.
Question: a sales engineer or a process engineer? im a chemical engineer, im confused of what field should i work with...sales or process engineer...can you help me?
Answer: Kind of a surprise to find this question in the Singles & Dating category, but that's OK. Go to the alumni organization of your school and find some alumni who graduated as ChemE's. Write them emails, ask them what their jobs are like, and what they like and don't like about them. If you can find both sales engineers and process engineers to interview, terrific. But those aren't the only possibilities, of course.
Question: is it easier to go to the US with a process engineering job in an EPC company than in operations? i am asking because i am being offered a job in an EPC company and i believe this might open doors for me like jobs in the US in the near future. i am currently a process engineer in a petrochemical plant.
Answer: Why do you want to come here? Why don't you stay home and help the people in your own country? We don't need any help.
Question: can anyone tell me about process engineering or being a process engineer?
Answer: This is the new term for industrial engineer.
Work in this field (which is what I do!) is filled with statistics, process control, and quality adherance. You could spend days calculating BOMs, routings, optimizing capacity and schedules, or inventory. Many process engineers like puzzles and like to continue to work at the same problem, trying to improve on specific value measures over time- things like machine down time, usage rates and batch efficiencies, days on hand of inventory, etc.
I find the field to be a more people oriented form of engineering, more interactive and creative. I migrated to it from the lab-techy engineering areas of chemical and mechanical. I enjoy it!
Question: Who was the english engineer who devised a process for eliminating impurities from pid iron in 1859?
Answer: if you mean PIG iron, it's Henry Bessemer.
Question: Am an engineer in process of immigrating to Canada. Any suggestions on specific area I could relocate to?
Answer: Whoever said there are no opportunities in Canada, obviously hasn't been here!
I live in Calgary, Alberta and there is an extreme labor shortage going on here. In fact, they are advertising worldwide and even making visa arrangements for people.
I saw a sign the other day at a donut shop and the starting wage was $20/hr! Flipping burgers at Wendy's pays $14/hr to start.
As for an engineer, you would definately find work here in Alberta...possibly Ft. McMurray where the oilsands are. There are thousands of jobs in the engineering field here now.
Best of luck to you!

Question: I have a dyeline process engineer's plan printer (H & T) Is there a service/maintenance contractor in the U.K? The dyeline printer is a Harper & Tunstall 2-140 and can easily print tracing paper plans of A1 size. It uses ammonia developer. I will need to find a service contract engineer to keep it in good working order. Alternatively I could perhaps obtain the original service/owner manual and do this myself. As H & T are no longer trading under this name, then further information on the current supplier of service manual/ kits/parts etc for my Harper & Tunstall 2-140 machine would be most welcome. I'm based in London UK.

Question: Should I become a process engineer to become more promotable- I have 5 yrs of Supervisory Experience? I have an MBA, a Master of Science, and 5 years of supervisory experience. I used to be more goal oriented, but still believe I am promotable if I gain good experience. I have considered appling for another position in a leadership training program, but believe I would have to move every 6 months for 2 years. I would love to, but would hate the consequences for my family. I see the engineering position as an alternative to gain good work experience, and not move. What I really want to know is if the engineering position would make me appear to be more marketable and promotable???
Answer: If its something you dont have under your belt yet, then go for it. I always see management as the step after all of the "working" jobs.
Question: what is a process engineer all about? what do they do? what is their job scope?
Answer: Process engineers use computers to monitor product quality and control process efficiency
Question: what does a process engineer in production line do??
Answer: Industrial production managers plan, direct, and coordinate the production activities required to produce millions of goods every year in the United States. They make sure that production proceeds smoothly and stays within budget. Depending on the size of the manufacturing plant, industrial production managers may oversee the entire plant or just one area.
One of the main responsibilities of the industrial production manager is to oversee the production process, reducing costs wherever possible and making sure products are produced on time and are of good quality. They do this by analyzing the plant’s personnel and capital resources to select the best way of meeting the production goals. Industrial production managers may determine which machines will be used, whether new machines need to be purchased, whether overtime or extra shifts are necessary, and what the sequence of production will be. They monitor the production run to make sure that it stays on schedule and correct any problems that may arise.
Part of an industrial production manager’s job is to come up with ways to make the production process more efficient. In recent years, traditional mass assembly lines have given way to “lean” production techniques, which gives managers more flexibility. In a traditional assembly line, each worker is responsible for only a small portion of the assembly, repeating that task on every product. Lean production employs teams to build and assemble products in stations or cells, so rather than specializing in a specific task, workers are capable of performing all jobs within a team. Without the constraints of the traditional assembly line, industrial production managers can more easily change production levels and staffing on different product lines to minimize inventory levels and more quickly react to changing customer demands.
Industrial production managers also monitor product standards and implement quality control programs. They make sure the finished product meets a certain level of quality, and if not, they try to find out what the problem is and find a solution. While traditional quality control programs reacted only to problems that reached a certain significant level, newer management techniques and programs, such as ISO 9000, Total Quality Management (TQM), or Six Sigma, emphasize continuous quality improvement. If the problem relates to the quality of work performed in the plant, the manager may implement better training programs or reorganize the manufacturing process, often based upon the suggestions of employee teams. If the cause is substandard materials or parts from outside suppliers, the industrial production manager may work with the supplier to improve their quality.
Industrial production managers work closely with the other managers of the firm to implement the company’s policies and goals. They also must work with the financial departments in order to come up with a budget and spending plan. In particular, though, production managers work most closely with the heads of sales, procurement, and logistics. Sales managers relay the client’s needs and the price the client is willing to pay to the production department, which must then fulfill the order. The logistics, or distribution department, handles the delivery of the goods, which often needs to be coordinated with the production department. The procurement department orders the supplies that the production department needs to make its products. It is also responsible for making sure that the inventories of supplies are maintained at their optimal levels in order for production to proceed without interruption. A breakdown in communications between the production manager and the procurement department can cause slowdowns and a failure to meet production schedules. Just-in-time production techniques have reduced inventory levels, making constant communication among the manager, suppliers, and procurement departments even more important.
Industrial production managers must keep abreast of new technology that can be used in the production process. They must be computer savvy as computers increasingly play an integral role in the manufacturing process and in the coordination among departments, suppliers, and clients.
Question: How to become and expert process engineer?
Answer: You start with a degree in chemical engineering and then you get 20 to 30 years of experience in the design and operation of various processes.
