Question: What education or training is needed to be an arcade repair/maintenance technician? Whenever I go to an arcade there is always one guy who repairs and maintains all the machines. I wonderhow I can get qualified for that job: technical school, on-line course, on-the-job training? I checked all of my local schools and colleges and the closest thing I found was a slot machine technician program, but I'n not interested in slot machines, plus you have to be at least 21 for that and I'm 17.
Answer: First off I would ask the people you see servicing the machines at the arcades you visit. I would think most of them are just clearing stuck coins, and placing in ticket stacks or print out paper. Most of the simple things are so common that you shadow another person for a few days and you have the basics down.
But to consider yourself an Tech look towards Classes in Electronics, TV repair, and computer repair classes. I have a background in electronics, and computer repair.
If you look around for an arcade game cabinet, and find one for a reasonable price, buy it. Try to find a JAMMA cabinet. You need to learn the power supply, Controls, Monitor, and PCB. Fuses blow, Wires come loose, buttons get stuck, monitors burn out, and various adjustments are always needed.
I have been collecting and restoring arcade games for around 5 years but have been repairing them around 10 years. Its my hobby.
Question: What is INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN?How much is starting salary? How to get training?
Answer: You must know how to work on machines. You have to be able to work with tools, and in many cases know how to work with plc operated machines. It also helps to know the basics of electricity. Usually about 17 dollars per hour in the minimum starting pay for someone whose green.
Question: WHY IS IT HARD FOR ME TO GET A JOB AS AN ENTRY LEVEL INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN? Hello maintenance guru's.Can anyone enlighten me on why I am having a hard time finding a job as an Industrial Maintenance Technician in DFW Texas of all places where industry is pretty healthy. I have been here less than a month and I have applied for like every suitable job on ALL the websites as soon as they post. Even the so called "Veterans Only" jobs on the state employment site. Im beginning to realize that alot of them are posted by temps and is not a surprise that I have no luck with them. Well here are a few of my qualifications:
1) I recently graduated with a COLLEGE DIPLOMA for GOD's SAKE in Industrial Maintenance Technology from a community college and I am for damn sure alot of the technicians especially the old guys out here never had college. A college diploma is the same amount of credit hours as an Associates Degree.
2) Army Veteran 8yrs.
The only thing working against me is my lack of on the job experience. But I had to do what I had to do and adjust my resume accordingly which has got me responses and a few interviews and thats all I will say about that. I feel I obtained state of the art hands on training in college to be a qualified technician as well as engineering level study of the technology.
Any of you old technicians who are lucky to have their foot in the door please reply because I am highly frustrated and I do have student loans to be paid back for actually going to college
I do not have problems with working starting off with staffing agencies however I prefer not to if I dont have to. They are misleading, and in my case being more entry level its better off selling myself to the ACTUAL employer whereas staffing agencies look for the best qualified, EXPERIENCED candidate for the postition especially in this job.
Answer: You need to work at the temp places at a lower wage to get some experience. If an employer does not know if you know which end of a crescent wrench to use to hammer in a nail, then they will be reluctant to hire you.
You would be amazed how many electronic engineer candidates I have interviewed who have never picked up a soldering iron. Or used an actual oscilloscope. They do everything in school now as simulations on a PC.
Question: Finding an Industrial Maintenance mechanic/technician job? I am getting sooo frustrated. Decided to go to school to "supposebly" become an industrial maintenance technician. FInished the two year diploma program at a community college. Moved to Dallas/Fort Worth Texas were the job market is amongst the best in the country in industry and still after 4 months of vigorously searching cannot find any company who is willing to hire me as an entry level technician. Even if there job ad states technical degree or certificate preffered I still cannot get my foot in the door. I may have came close to getting two jobs that required passing a maintenance test or demonstration. Yes I will admit I failed a demonstration at one place and the test at the other, but I prefer a place that does not give you a test, that way I can retain more knowledge and skills that way if I apply at a place that gives a maintenance exam I can pass it. No it does not mean that I have no mechanical knowledge most of the test asks advanced maintenance and electrical questions in my opinion. So what am I to do. I'm staying in good faith, but I am becoming more negative as well. Is it because of the lack of jobs and competition? I also feel that I have to either wait for more massive hiring or maybe a job ad that has multiple positions that way it is not as competitive. I also was told that those who are currently working in a field could jump to other jobs and get chosen over those who are not working, got their foot in the door, or have been layed off. All I ask is for a chance. My schooling and training was not free. I still have more education benefits from being prior military, but I have no desire to go to school for anything that is not teaching or nursing because now and days chances are slim for college or trade school graduates. I hear Obama encouraging people to go to community college or back to school, but does Mr. Obama know that employers do not care about education in technical trades? All they care about is experience or liscenses. Is there anyone who is in industry who can enlighten me on this matter with the job situation or anyone who feels that it may be a waste of time and money to go to school for any maintenance fields now and days?
Answer: There is no waste when it comes to education. The economy is horrible even tho you may be in one of the best employment areas, there is still a lot of competition. It is an employer's market now, there are more people with degrees and experience than ever before and they don't need to give anyone a chance. It is hard for those trying to get their boot in the door. I suggest that you volunteer to get experience and networking possibilities. I also think you should keep applying and trying. More education? I don't know, I will suggest that you take an aptitude test. An aptitude test assesses your skills and your interests and matches you to the careers that are right for you. A college adviser can recommend a good one. Failing that, go to the workforce development agency (unemployment) and request one. JobFit is excellent. Perhaps there is something else out there that you haven't considered that would be a good fit for your training and abilities. Hope I helped.
Question: Aviation Maintenance Technician? I am joining the U.S. Coast Guard but need some answers before I go see my recruiter so I have a knowledge base of what I want to do in the CG
I want to become an aviation maintenance tech, but i have no experience with mechanics, I really am interested and want to learn and train in this field, I am a quick learner, a good student and a hard worker
Will I even be allowed to pursue that career if I don't end up scoring it as an aptitude from the ASVAB?
Answer: To qualify for a particular rating, you do need minimum line scores on the ASVAB sections most pertinent to that rating. Keep in mind the ASVAB is more about aptitude than what you know already. Being inexperienced won't disqualify you or keep you from getting the scores you need.
For AMT, I believe it's the following:
ASVAB Score Requirements: AR+MC+AS+EI OF 213 (MINIMUM AR OF 52)
Check with your recruiter to be sure.
Question: Who employs industrial maintenance technicians? I'm asking because I am considering getting training in the field and I am wanting to be employable. Thanks in advance.
Please answer in terms more general than just New Orleans.
Answer: There are so many companies that have that particular job. My husband is a maint. man. He's been in industrial maintenance for more than 24 yrs. It's not easy to give you a specific answer. My husband works in the production/manufacturing field. Try checking out your local job service website to get an idea of the different industrial maintenance fields there are.
Like any other employment right now, these jobs aren't easy to find. Your idea of,'on the job training' is your best bet when it comes to gaining knowledge. My husband has worked with kids straight from college with Bachelor's & Master's degrees and didn't know a micrometer from their thumb and index finger!
Another idea is to hang with friends and family that have some talents you would need for this kind of job: mechanical, electrical, mathematics, schematics, blue prints, computer, knowledge of controls, etc.
An industrial maintenance man really knows his s**t, OR he's just all talk, there is
NO IN BETWEEN!
Look forward to tight spaces, filth, nastiness, heat and cold.
...other than that...good luck, Sweety.
Question: Can you tell me about work in a nuclear power plant as technician? Our local college in wilmington nc has a training program for this. They said it would guarantee me a job making $24 an hour after 2 years of classes and on the job train as you go. It sounds good, but I don't know anything about working in a place like that. Is it like a maintenance job?
Answer: Operators in plants with automated control systems work mainly in a central control room and usually are called control room operators or control room operator trainees or assistants. switchboard operators control the flow of electricity from a central point, while auxiliary equipment operators work throughout the plant, operating and monitoring valves, switches, and gauges.
In nuclear power plants, most operators start working as equipment operators or auxiliary operators. They help the more senior workers with equipment maintenance and operation while learning the basics of plant operation. With experience and training they may be licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as reactor operators and authorized to control equipment that affects the power of the reactor in a nuclear power plant. Senior reactor operators supervise the operation of all controls in the control room. At least one senior operator must be on duty during each shift to act as the plant supervisor.

Question: What would it take to work in NASA's Mission Control? I've dreamed of working for NASA my entire life, and my two goals would to either work on the space shuttle or work in Mission Control. I want to know what sort of credentials and training would be required for such a job.
I'll be training in the fall at an Aeronautics Institute to be an Aircraft Maintenance Technician, and I plan on furthering my education beyond that.
Thanks! =)
Answer: This is NASA's word on it:
Want to Work at NASA? NASA is more than astronauts. We are scientists, engineers, computer programmers, personnel specialists, accountants, writers, maintenance workers and many, many other kinds of people. At the NASAJobs Web site, you can review job listings, post a resume and even apply for a NASA job online.
At NASAJobs students can find opportunities for internships, cooperative programs and summer employment.
For all the diversity of NASA's workforce, the question, "How can I become an astronaut?" is very common. The answer depends on where you are now and where you want to go.
If you haven't finished high school yet, former astronaut Dr. Sally K. Ride has these suggestions for you:
"The most important steps that I followed were studying math and science in school. I was always interested in physics and astronomy and chemistry, and I continued to study those subjects through high school and college on into graduate school. That's what prepared me for being an astronaut; it actually gave me the qualifications to be selected to be an astronaut. I think the advice that I would give to any kids who want to be astronauts is to make sure that they realize that NASA is looking for people with a whole variety of backgrounds: they are looking for medical doctors, microbiologists, geologists, physicists, electrical engineers. So find something that you really like and then pursue it as far as you can and NASA is apt to be interested in that profession."
If you've graduated from college or are in the military, and you're ready to apply, here's how.
Basically, Every Special, Interveiw, or Article I have ever seen breaks down about the same.
Best of Lucks!

Question: where to find a job as an aircraft maintenance technician? my brother finished his course as aircraft technician but he didn't find any job related to his course..where can he apply a job as aircraft technician maintenance?plz help..thanks a lot

Question: I used to work as weapons maintenance Technician in my Country for the Airforce would other countries hire me? i was a military technician but resigned and i'm not even over 30, would other Air forces in the rest of the world hire me as a civilian Technician? or i must be one of their residents?
Answer: In the US, you would need to either gain entry via work visa (special case for highly skilled/trained people) or immigrate the traditional way into the US and then apply for work to any company hiring that type of worker. Note that you may be required to get a security clearance, and based off of your background, you may or may not be issued one and may cause you to lose eligibility for that particular position.
Please be advised that none of these methods are guarantees to getting work or residence in the US...they're only avenues that you can seek but success is highly dependent on you and your situation.

Question: Im thinking of becoming an Aircraft Maintenance Technician? Ok so Ive been thinking about being an aircraft mechanic for awhile. But im not too sure. It seems that some people love it and some people hate it. I was wondering if this would be a good idea. If you are an aircraft mechanic can you maybe tell me a little bit about it? and are there any other aviation careers that make a lot of money besides pilot or air traffic controller? thanks.
Answer: well an aircraft maintenance technician involves alot of different things and specialties a few examples are working on the engine ,striping down the paint and repainting it, rebuilding crashed aircraft.
my C.O at the AAFC ( Australian Air force Cadets) he is a aircraft technician and a test pilot as well so he gets to fly any plane he fixes or works on.
the job also depends if you are going to go military or civillian
a few other jobs in aviation are - test pilot this is where you test all the experimental planes, a armaments loader in the RAAF or Air Army Corps this is when you load the aircraft with weaponry like missiles and bombs.
ill check with you later if i can think of some more jobs
Question: What jobs could I get leaving the Navy with the rating Cryptologic Technician (Maintenance)? Would I be bound to something like Geek Squad or would there be some more options? I just joined the Navy and I'm wondering what kind of opportunities I'll have when I get out.
Answer: Two things. Time in service, and certifications/degrees. As an M, you will be good because of your clearance, so I wouldn't settle for "Geek Squad." I used to tell my former students, whether you are staying in for 6 years or 20, always prepare yourself to get out, and prepare yourself to stay in. As long as you are not in A or C school, and have worked some time in rate, you can set yourself up to at least have an A.S./A.A. degree (if you don't already have one) or a cert. As long as you are willing to travel/move, there will be jobs from NAVSEA, to state/fed gov't because of your clearance. just make yourself marketable.
Question: What is the difference between a PC Maintenance Repair Technician and an IT Support Technicion?
Answer: They can often do the same things. (or mean the same thing) If there is any difference, the PC Maintenance tech would handle more of the hardware aspect of the computers, while the IT support tech might handle calls over the phone. They probably both would have the same skills.

Question: The maintenance technician saw me naked, How to tell my husband? I'm a 39 YO married mom; 2 days ago I was taking shower when I heard the door ringing. It was the time of my husband's return from work. I went to open the door fully naked with good mind. I surprised by the maintenance technician coming to fix the TV. Quickly I let him in to the living room and explain the malfunction to him then I went to put on my robe... But he saw EVERYTHING: top and bottom, front and back. I put on my robe then I came to him and say: Sorry, I thought you are my husband... He said: Never mind madam you are so beautiful... Although he was staring at my naked privates, but he was very polite and talking skillfully.
I feel shame for that embarrassing station, and I'm feeling more shame for not telling my husband about that. Nobody saw me naked except my husband. And that guy watches every inch in my body: He saw the front while opening the door and telling me his job… He saw the butt while letting him in to the living room… He saw the front again in the room while explaining the malfunction of the TV to him… And he saw the butt again when I went quickly to my room to put on the robe… All that happened for about 3 minutes.
I asked that question here hours ago, and all the answers said that I must tell my husband about that. I went to tell him but I retreated to do… How can I tell him? I'm in a very hard predicament… How can I describe what happened to him? That's so hard!
Or I must hide that?
Please I need your help… Please.
Answer: Shut the h*ll up you stupid troll! You keep posting the SAME exact question GROW UP!!

Answer: Unless your husband is the extremely and I mean extremely jealous type I'm sure he'd be ok if you tell him. Telling him about it proves you have nothing to hide and that it was an accident. You can even say that you were trying to surprise him ;)

Question: aircraft maintenance technician is it a good job?
Answer: There is a shortage of good maintenance techs. If you like working on machines, are detail oriented and want to make your living at it, I think you'd enjoy it. Aviation as a whole is a cyclical, however, so job security is not a plus...
Question: Does a pool Service Technician have to be certified or can I use onsite maintenance for this task? My pool guy has quit and I need to be able to cut cost and maintain my pools on the property
Answer: It varies from state to state. In Florida, you must pay for and attend a health department course for certification. This is also for any employee that maintains the pool. I hope that this helps. Contact the local health department and they can tell you in your specific location. Good Luck.
Question: do anyone know where in charlotte nc can i obtain a certified apartment maintenance +technician degree?

Question: How many maintenance technicians would it take to maintain nine dormitories? The maintenance would include all plumbing, electrical, hvac, carpentry, & painting repairs. Basically everything! These dorms include five female & four male. The dorms The dorms are roughly 25k square feet.
Answer: I don't think you can make these comparisons across colleges without more information. For example, if all dorms are new and functioning well, you may need just a couple of maintenance people with the ability to call upon outside companies if something goes wrong. If they are all 100 years old, there may be a need for constant repairs, which would call for more people. At my last school, there was one person for every three or four buildings. I would think that would suggest that 2-5 people might be needed, depending on the condition of the dorms.
Question: I've started a new business as a dishwasher repair and maintenance technician, would you like me to come by .. and give your rack a complementary inspection? First 5 inspections and cleanings are free!
Answer: Imma let you know, my rack is just fine.
but, i would like to know more about these cleanings....
Question: what is the average wage for both airline and general aircraft maintenance technicians the the US? Please only answer if you do or have worked in the aviation industry and please don't direct me to web sites that show average wages. They are unreliable. Thanks
Answer: Well, any answers you get here are going to be guesstimates....but I make about $31 dollars per hour at a major airline. Poverty wages in California. The three top airlines are UPS air freight, FedEx air freight, and Southwest airlines....I think each of them are paying $45 dollars an hour for in-house mechanics....but they have very few in-house mechanics compared to the size of their fleet. The vast majority of their maintenance is outsourced to chop shops that pay $17 to $19 an hour. Chump change. You can get that working anywhere with ZERO legal responsibility, unlike having the responsibility for using your Airframe and Powerplant license to sign off an aircraft.
I have no idea what general aviation pays mechanics....I'm sure it varies just as widely as with the airlines. But general aviation usually pays less on average than airlines. It shouldn't , but it usually does.

Question: Aviation Technician/ maintenance? Hi am currently in Gr.11 and am preparing to pursue the program of Aviation maintenance in centennial college in Canada. I was wondering if this program is any good and if the job employment rate is low or high...especially by the time i graduate from the program which would be in about 5 years...........Am mostly concerned about job opportunities and so can someone tell me if this program is worth pursuing..............
Answer: You will always be able to find a job as an aircraft mechanic. That is the way it is in the U.S. I assume it would be the same in canada. It is a pretty narrow field so there seems to be a lot of opportunities.
Question: What are some good industries to work in as a mechanic/technician? What are some good industries to work in as mechanic, technician, maintenance guy? I am changing careers and I like auto mechanics & motorcycle repair, but I am also considering other industries...ie.:

Question: What is the Job outlook of an Aviation Maintenance Technician? I wanted a job in electrical engineering, but I am really interested in aviation as well. I was looking at the associates degree program. Has anyone here held this title before? Does it pay well? Is it easy to find work? Any info at all would be appreciated! Thanks!
Thanks Jetmech, that really sucks. I almost got my pilot license years ago also until the instructor told me the biz was collapsing. So I dropped out, I guess I figured after a couple of years things would get better. I just really want into aviation some way shape or form. Maybe I'll just go to school for engineering and build my own damn planes to work on...
Answer: Unfortunately, the picture is grim for aircraft mechanics right now. Most of the major airlines have been in or near bankruptcy. Several are on the brink of bankruptcy currently. There are literally tens of thousands of laid off aircraft mechanics as we speak. All of them got screwed out of pay and their pensions. The pensions were stolen. We did the work but the company cancelled the pension. The most successful airline right now, Southwest, their stock is worth less than $20 bucks. One thing you have to realize about being an aircraft mechanic, or A&P mechanic (for Airframe and Powerplant mechanic), A&P jobs are naturally at the airport where the airplanes are, But large metropolitan areas with airports are expensive to live in as you might guess. So at first glance mechanic wages seem high, but your cost of living can be astronomical when you live near a major airport. Especially in California....forget about living in California...unless you have already inherited a fortune from a departed relative....because that's the only way you are going to afford a house in California if you are going to live on your mechanic wages alone. I make about $65,000. The general rule of thumb for how much house you can afford is 3 times your annual salary. That comes to about a $195,000 dollar house I can "afford".....that's eating beans 3 nights a week. How many $195,000 dollar hosues are there in California?......NONE!
The 3 top paying airlines right now that I know of are Southwest, FedEx, and the best of the best, UPS. They pay their mechanics around $90,000 dollars per year base, not including potential over-time pay. There are a LOT of guys with grease under their finger nails making well over $100,000 dollars per year and living in places like, Dallas, Indianapolis, and Louisville Kentucky. All relatively affordable places to live. What's the catch? (There's always a catch) The catch is, those airlines operate with a very small crew of in-house mechanics and they outsource the rest of the maintenance to outside vendors. Good luck getting a job at one of them as an aircraft mechanic. Even if you did get hired at one of them, how long can those ultra high wages last in this economy? I have no idea how long the good times can last for those guys, but I wouldn't bet on it in this economy.
Do yourself a great big giant favor, stay out of aviation. Go ahead and pursue that Engineering degree. It'll be the smartest move you ever make in your life. An Electrical Engineering degree...or better yet, a degree in Electronics Engineering, is transferable anywhere! When I was younger I worked in a factory. One day I called a mechanic to look at a machine I was doing production on. When the mechanic arrived he had a very young guy with him, and this guy was wearing a white shirt and a tie....management for sure. I talked to him. He said that he just graduated from getting an electrical engineering degree. I said, oh, that's very math intensive, isn't it? He said, "yeah it is. They really liked that when they hired me as the Maintenance Manager." My jaw fell open. This young guy was the maintenance manager of the entire plant. It was a major food products manufacturing plant for Nabisco that employed over 400 people, and they hired him fresh out of college to be the maintenance manager over a crew of much older mechanics. Oh yeah, he had an Electrical Engineering Degree.
Question: how to apply for a job in deccan airlines as aircraft maintenance technician.?
Answer: First, be well-qualified to do A&P work, then go there and search out who to see and what to do. Follow the normal jobsearch techniques thereafter...
Question: Can someone tell me what it is really like to be an aircraft maintenance technician? I'm thinking about going to school for this degree because a community college near me has started a program in this field, and I have always been fascinated by airplanes and flight. When I was a child, I wanted to get into the aviation field, and now that I'm older, I'm thinking about really doing it. I'm in my twenties now. I have a few questions, though. For one thing, I am a woman. Is it hard for women in this job? I imagine that there aren't too many women working on airplanes, but if you are one or know any women who are, can you tell me what it's like for them? How is the outlook for this job? Is it in demand or slowing down? What do you like about your work, and what do you not like about it? How stressful is it?
Thanks for taking time to answer my questions. I could look most of these up on Google, but I figure I'll get more honest answers from people who are in the business.
Answer: Aircraft maintenance and repair is hot, cold, dirty and unglamorous. You get paid less than a car mechanic and can kill people if you make a mistake. Airplanes are hand-made and flimsy, your body will ache and many aircraft owners are cheapskates who want new toys at the expense of safety, or cannot afford the airplane. Also, you will likely never get rich working on airplanes.
On the other hand, if you love aviation, there is not much more satisfying than returning an aircraft to service, finding a real safety concern on an inspection and being around the aircraft. Getting your A&P certificate and eventually your IA is a source of pride and achievement.
Being female shouldn't have anything to do with it, but you might find you'll need to be a little better than the boys, because it is still a male-dominated field. If you're good, you will eventually be accepted, but try to be a sport, because when you're playing with the boys, there will be some joking around. I'm sure you'll be fine.
How is the outlook for A&P's? That is the $64,000 question. The current economic conditions and administration are not favoring aviation and general aviation in particular is suffering greatly. There is a war against rich people and they are the ones who own and operate most aircraft. On the other hand, there are not as many aircraft mechanics coming into the field, so if you like it, go for it. Once you have it in your blood, you're infected for life.

Question: Aviation Technician (aircraft maintenance engineer)? is there a good future in becoming an aviation technician in canada? i heard there is and if anyone knows what the courses are like that would be helpful thanks
Answer: In short, you should seek a career that is not affected by things like "outsourcing". Unfortunately, this has been the trend for aerospace/ aviation industries for several years now.
You may consider marine or motorcycle maintenance in addition to the previously mentioned auto maintenance as serious career alternatives.
Acquire as many tools as you may. Most employers require you to have your own tools before you will get started with them.
Best fortunes.
