Question: Where can I find information to be licensed as a basic x-ray machine operator? I'm not talking about becoming a rad tech, but I know there is a test that can be taken to be licensed as a basic x-ray machine operator. I have searched and searched and found nothing.

Answer: First of it depends on where you live. (some states don't require you to be certified as a basic machine operator) I would check your state's department of health website for information on licenses and requirements. But how is it you plan on passing the exam. There's more to it than pointing the tube and pushing a button. I had to go to school to acquire the knowledge, and the school showed me where to go for the test. I'm sure the are some bitter RT's out there that will tell you not to do it that you wont find work..blah,blah,blah. Truth is the way the economy is right now some would rather hire a BXMO and pay them less for the same work than a RT. If you want to work in a large hospital then you might be better off going full RT but every state is different mine says 1 RT per 150 beds so it is possible.

Find out if they have any relationships with companies who hire their graduates or students who complete this program. Ask others who have completed the program if it led to a job or helped them land employment. It is a tough job market and unless this skill and/or certificate is in demand now, it may not be the direction to go right now. Do some research and find out what you like to do, what skills you have and like to do and then pursue whatever allows you to do that.

But the invisible fumes emitted from the copiers, mainly due to heating up of carbon Black in the toners and its using, are very dangerous for health. Continued working with these machines and inhaling the fumes attribute to creation of Cancer causing Carcinogens and major lung problems like Tuberculosis etc. Hence it is advisable not to work for such a long period with the copiers and the operator is bound to become seriously ill after some years. -

Answer: What you need to do is get in on the bottom level and then find someone who will teach you the higher jobs. Either work hard to show your boss/supervisor that you're motivated to learn more or actually ask what you need to do to move up. Yes, those people had to get their experience somewhere, but they had to start at the bottom and work up.
