Question: What questions are on the millwright test? I am taking the millwright's test and need to know the answers
Answer: I agree, i believe you wanna know the kind of questions they will ask. Well it seems they are tight about giving a fair amount of questions to get a feel for the test, but the link below will give two different formats for the test.
Also in the introduction, it describes the competencies that you will need to refresh on before taking it. Stop by a metal fabrication shop and query them about this test and if they can give more advice. Sorry I couldn't find more questions. Good luck M8.
Question: What do I need to be able to do if I wanted to become a millwright? My dad is in the millwright union and I will be going into the same thing right after high school, but he is very smart and has experience in alot of mechanical things like cars and cooling towers and stuff... so what i am worried about is that i will get into this union and not be able to do everything that he does. I just want to know what the duties of a millwright are...
Answer: Sounds like you have a very good person close to home who can give you a very detailed look into what a millwright does. A lot better than you can get on this site.
If you like things mechanical and enjoy working on things mechanical then you won't have trouble with your apprenticeship.

Question: What do you need to work as a millwright?
name a few class to take
Answer: Join the union apprentice program, I think they are at the carpenter's hall....you should have a knowledge of math and mechancis..they make the big bucks traveling around to the power plants and if you have a clean record, you can get into the Nuke plants too..
You'll be expected to bring your own hand tools, wrenches and such.

Question: Machinist or Millwright? Bases on anyone that can offer any advice, or an actual journeymen or apprentice of either trade, what trade would you choose or finish first? I am a second year apprentice machinist with alot of hours experience, but I am also a 1st year millwright currently, I enjoy both but need to decide. Should I just find a machinist job, finish the trade and then challange the millwright exams? I am 19 year old male by the way. And I am closer to finishing the machinist
Answer: It all depends on you. Both trades offer their own rewards. If you are looking for money, I think millwright is and will continue to be the better average payer. Millwright is such a broad field. The difference between contract millwright and industrial millwright is like night to day. I have worked both and prefer the freedom and variety of contracting, over the repetitiveness and security of factory maintenance. Machinist work is for the people who enjoys meticulous (and some times tedious) work, day in and day out.

Answer: minimum clearance
Question: does anyone know what was the profession of a millwright???
Answer: Millwright
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search
Derived from the trade of carpentry, a millwright originally was a specialised carpenter who was trained as a carpenter and as well had working knowledge of gear ratios, driveshaft speeds, and other equations. The "mill" in millwright refers to the genesis of the trade in flour mills. Biographies of some millwrights who were located in Norwich, England can be found here. Several important early civil engineers were originally trained as millwrights, including James Brindley and John Rennie.
A millwright today is someone who maintains or constructs industrial machinery such as that which would be related to assembly lines, also pumps, valves, printing presses, etc. Millwrights are usually responsible for the unassembled equipment when it arrives at the job site. Using hoisting and moving equipment they position the pieces that need to be assembled. Their job requires a thorough knowledge of the load bearing capabilities of the equipment they use as well as an understanding of blueprints and technical instructions.
Most millwrights are educated through apprenticeship programs where they receive a combination of classroom education along with a good deal of on the job training. Most programs last about 4 years. The apprenticeships usually pay a small stipend that increases with experience.
A high percentage of millwrights join unions to help protect their interests and those with a high level of skill often start their own businesses as independent contractors.
Question: What is the best site to get a FREE template 4 a Resume? I want, and need to get back to work, and I'm thinking of changing from Millwright, over to safety. How can I get a FREE resume template, or example of a resume to use as a pattern?
Thanks in advance 4 any assistance.
Answer: Besides setting all margins to 1", the most important criteria for setting up a professional resume besides relevant text, is "scanability." Here are some helpful tips:
1. Place just below your identification header [your hame, address, phone, email address] any Conditional Warning Statement such as "Confidential Resume,"Do Not Contact Current Employer," etc.
2. Always fill-in an Objectives category [just below the Conditional Warning Statement] and make sure that he Objective will contribute to the profitability of your future employer;
3. Select a mono-type font such as Helvetica, Arial, Courier or Times Roman; do not select any cursive handwriting styles which cannot scanned;
4. Keep font sizes within a range of 10 to 12 pts.;
5. Avoid styling text with a justified alignment, keep it flushed left;
6. Instead of using tabs to set up blocked text entries, generate a table and use the column and row settings accordingly;
7. Do not place an i.d. picture anywhere on the resume, this is a major taboo due to discrimination issues;
8. Do not place any graphic text [saved as .gifs] onto the resume since it may be overlooked during the scanning phase;
9. List at the very end of the resume your interests which should include travel experiences, language skills, social interactions such as golf, team sports, tennis, etc.
In conclusion, the above helpful hints were designed to allow ease of scanning of your resume into PDF which can then be text captured for seach purposes by your potential employer. If the original resume was created in Word, WordPerfect or Mac Appleworks, it can be Saved As a PDF file which then can be saved as an email attachment. Otherwise, you can simply use a scanner and scan a hard copy of the resume and then save as a PDF file.
Failure to conform the resume to appropriate fonts and styles as outlined above will result in rejection of the resume simply due to the inability of the scanning device to properly index relevant resume entries.
Good luck!

Question: whats the best way to get a apprenticeship as a millwright? i am 37 and want to change jobs,because i dont like what i am doing now. about 5 or 6 years ago i use to do millwright type work. ''welding'' and stuff like that. i like that kind of work but the projects that were thrown at me were hard and allways a challenge because i had no formal training, it was just figure it out and do it, these young guys are lucky to get training. do you think my age will play a factor in geting into a apprenticeship ? how can i convince a journey man that i would be a better than averge helper/ apprentice. i all ready have many skills as far as welding,rigging, useing tools, i am sure i have more skills than the averge millwright apprentice,i just need the formal training,if you were a millwright would you want to work with a apprentice that had some skills are just brand new and only school exp. any tips on getting a union millwright job would be great to here about, but only union, if its not union they treat you like crap around here. pro union.
Answer: While I am unable to provide much help, please let a prospective employer about your work ethics. Your resume will speak volumes with skills and work experience that a prospective employer will not find in someone fresh out of high school. I am a Journeyman Machinist. I got tired of working for the small independent shops. I usually was treated like crap, or was underpaid, especially after I completed my training and received my Journeyman Certificate. Asked three times for a raise, received no answer to my request. Quit and went to a different company. Left that company due to the way I was treated and went back to college to work toward an EET degree. A friend of mine was called back to a local steel mill and he told me about openings. I was hired a year later.
Best of luck to you!!
Question: is anyone a millwright? if so do u recommend it as a good career?
Answer: yeah i like it, i make good money, and i have health insurance and a pension. For the most part the work is enjoyable.
Question: Which Blade in a steam turbine is subject to the most steam erosion? In terms of the work of a millwright.
Answer: It depends on the design of the steam cycle feeding the turbine, but, in general, it is the row of blades where water tends to condense. It also depends upon speed, the outer part of any turbine blade is going the fastest, so any water droplets in wet steam have the most erosive power. This is why a hard material (like Stellite) is sometimes braised onto the trailing edge of low pressure turbine blades in a nuclear turbine. The steam tends to be much wetter and the blades are very long, ideal conditions for erosion. I have seen turbines where those wear strips have been worn away to the point where they are sharp!
Turbines at fossil fueled plants tend to have less wet steam because they have better ways to reheat the steam to dry it out. However, if they operate a reduced loads, as they often do, then some wet steam can be produced, also in the low pressure turbine blades. And since fossil turbines rotate at twice the frequency of nuclear turbines, the speeds are greater.
Question: does anyone have questions to millwright exam? test questions help?????

Question: How can I make a composite material to build wind turbines with recycled material? My father and his friends are trying to start a buisness building wind turbines, and we have been trying to figure out a good material to make them out of, that we can use recycled material Eg. milk jugs, cans, etc.
We have almost every resource you can think of and lots of different machines to work with. Cranes, everything.
Any suggestions would be very helpful, the reason they're doing this is because they are being laid off as millwrights.
Answer: Its so hard to find good materials for wind turbines. Manufacturers of wind turbines use very specific materials. But if you want to build one for you from recycled materials, its good but efficiency of turbine will be very small. I build one wind turbine from plastic pipe :

You can take some ideas from this site
Best Regards and i wish you good luck in work.
Question: what tools does a millwright need?
Answer: if you are looking at getting into an apprenticeship, your union should have a list of tools that you will need. most require you to have up to 1 1/4 inch wrenches and sockets. hammers good screwdriver set, allen wrenches, and some crescent wrenches. some basic precision tools like a precision level. and micrometers. at a minimum a one inch micrometer. as an apprentice, you arent expected to have all of them right away. after working a while you will be able to figure out what you need right away. just to start off make sure you have a good set of basic handtools. Its a good trade and the pay is good. Stick with it.
Question: Why is it often assumed people work in corporate-type offices? Articles about how to deal with co-workers often talk about offices, cubicles, water cooler etc. Very Few people I know actually work in a corporate office. Millwrights, teachers, professors, welders, truck drivers, drywallers, and factory workers usually don't work in offices, though they may have an office they sometimes use. References to HR, office furniture, and the water cooler don't really apply when you're dressing hair or hauling gravel. Why the emphasis on the office?
Answer: I've thought the same thing. I wonder sometimes if the people who write those articles are assuming that the majority of people reading those kinds of articles on the Internet about how to improve their life at work are the types who work in offices or cubicles and stand around water coolers.
I don't know.

Question: Unemployed Michigan workers, where are they going? My husband(former auto worker) and I are sadly throwing in the towel and planning to leave Michigan to find work. What State has the best opportunities for a Journeyman Millwright with 26 years of experience?
Answer: North Carolina is growing.
Indiana got the new Honda plants and perhaps VW is building as well.
There's a lot of support feeder plants expanding there.
Nebraska and Wyoming have mini-petro booms.
Texas is always hot. (pardon the pun).
You will do fine.
Michigan is finishing a 40 year trend of high taxes and negative growth.
I know I live there now and am scanning the horizon myself.
Good luck. Hundreds are leaving every week.
Go online to "EXPANSION MANAGEMENT MAGAZINE." They tell you where all the new startups are happening.
Question: How to find welding jobs? I recently completed getting my welding certificates with the millwright union, but things are very slow with the union right now, and I am considering buying my own welding equipment. Does anyone know how I would go about finding independent welding jobs, especially in Phoenix Arizona area, which is where I am located. Any suggestions, thoughts, experiences would be appreciated. Thanks.
Answer: Advertise in the local news paper, place notes on bulletin boards, word of mouth, set up a shop with a sign out front, a sign on the side of your truck. These are good places to start. It all takes time to build.
Good luck. Look at this.

Question: Is this sentence too cumbersome for the objective statement on my resume? If so, how should I reword it? "A position as an apprentice millwright, requiring me to apply 1st-year technical training with the intentions of honing current skills and acquiring new ones such that I may apply my hours on-the-job toward further schooling."
Answer: Okay you need a serious answer.
Golfing is good but it sounds like you are a young person just starting out in the job market and so...golfing for a job would be inappropriate at this point in your career.
The first thing is that you have too many words in the sentence and it does not flow to a conclusion.
What do you think of the following two sentences?
The position of apprentice millwright would enable me to apply and enhance my current skills as well as providing me with the opportunity to continue my education.
The position of apprentice millwright would enable me to apply my current skills whilst providing me with the opporuntity to continue my education and develop my proficiency.
You can play around with them some more and see what other people have to say.
Good luck.

You can also post on Craigslist.
