Question: how can a ny resident start the process of getting ny city its own identity like washington dc? most of our taxes are going to support nyc and we get killed with them sucking us dry. sorry nyc workers/taxpayers but i love upstate and want improvements to the adirondacks, lakes, rivers, etc. what can be done, if anything?
and i believe nyc uses 66% of the states revenues
Answer: You realize that since NYC has at least half the state's residents, it also provides at least half the revenue of those "our taxes", right?
Edited: Hard to find stats on this stuff. I found this link which says NYC pays $3.5 billion more to the state than it gets back.
http://www.politicalbase.com/issues/divi…
Apparently a big chunk of tax revenues out of NYC that help the state come from those ridiculous Wall Street bonuses.

Question: Since California's jobless rate reached a fresh post-World War II high why do we need immigration reform? California's jobless rate reached a fresh post-World War II high in July, climbing to 11.9%, a sobering reminder that though the nation's deep downturn may be nearing its end, the state's employment woes are far from over.
Golden State employers cut their payrolls by 35,800 jobs in July, according to figures released Friday by the state Employment Development Department. That's a significant improvement over monthly losses that averaged 76,000 over the first half of the year.
Still, July's numbers were worse than some analysts had expected, rising from 11.6% in June and led by declines in trade, construction and manufacturing. Even with the rise in unemployment here, however, a consensus is growing that the worst of the recession may be over.
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke on Friday declared the economy to be "leveling out," and the National Assn. of Realtors reported a sharp rise in July home sales. Wall Street responded by pushing the Dow index to its highest point since November.
Still, a robust recovery appears unlikely, and some regions of the country are expected to suffer fallout from the bursting of the housing bubble for years to come. That includes California, which is now tied with Oregon for the fourth-highest unemployment rate in the nation, behind Michigan, Rhode Island and Nevada. The U.S. unemployment rate is 9.4%, down from 9.5% in June.
California's battered construction and housing industries, long pillars of the state economy, remain troubling sources of weakness. Over the last year, the state has lost 760,200 jobs, nearly 1 in 5 of them in construction. White-collar workers have likewise suffered from the housing crash as thousands of jobs in banking, mortgage processing and real estate sales have vanished.
The number of new-home permits issued in July fell 47.4% from a year earlier, according to the Construction Industry Research Board.
"We've disproportionately benefited from two sectors, construction and financial services," said Esmael Adibi, an economist at Chapman University.
"The demise of these two sectors has hurt us disproportionately."
That's had an outsize effect on California's 13.5 million Latinos, who are heavily concentrated in the building trades. In 2007, Latinos made up 47% of the construction workforce in the state, according to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
In July, California's Latino unemployment rate hit 12.7%, dwarfing the white jobless rate of 9.5%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Black unemployment remains the highest in the state at 14.2%. But Latino joblessness has grown much faster. In July 2007 the Latino unemployment rate stood at just 5.9%, compared with 9.2% for blacks and 4.8% for whites.
Last month, 805,000 California Latinos were jobless. That's up 127% over the last two years. The number of unemployed whites in the state grew 103% over the same period, while the number of out-of-work African Americans rose 66%.
"You really begin to see desperate times for lots of Latino families throughout California," said Vince Vasquez, a senior policy analyst with the National University System Institute for Policy Research.
East Los Angeles resident Robert Gonzales said he was struggling to support his three children after his job as an industrial painter disappeared a year ago when his employer moved to Ohio.

Answer: We don't! We need Government Reform!
Question: Grammar help..please? Impact of Global Economic Downturn on Thailand
Globalization integrated global economy marked particularly by free trade, free flow of capital, and cheaper foreign labor market. It is hard to deny troubles in Wall Street do affect Bangkok Street. From the author assumption, the following are the impact of global economic downturn on Thailand.
1.) Falling foreign investment and stock markets: the global economic
downturn has caused the service sectors to minimize a wide range of investment and trade activities, especially manufacturing sectors and tourism industries. Sharply drop of global demand resulted in enormous goods and services reduction in most countries; particularly Asia countries, because the Asian are major exporters and enormous trading volumes take place in the region. Thailand export account for 70% of GDP and now shrinking for the first time in many years. The industries face massive reductions of exports are automobiles, electronics, textiles, computer parts, and some food processing products. Tough financial time also causes tourism industries to loss large portions of its revenues and sees no concrete signs of improvement. In addition, many foreign investors are shortening their financial investments and pulling out funds from the Thai stock exchange markets to sustain their own financial conditions. Falling stock exchange markets causes the domestic investment to decline and result of financial difficulty in the country.
2.) Sky rocking unemployment rate: the majority of companies have seen a reduction in manufactured goods and services because of the financial challenges in the U.S and the global economy. The large segment of Thai GDP comes from manufacturing sectors and tourism industries. Unfortunately, the two sectors are the hot spot for the mad financial storm. Global economic downturn certainly causes manufacturing sectors and tourism industries to loss large portions of its revenues. Consequently, unemployment rates reach higher and become major issues, especially in manufacturing and tourism industries. Numerous unemployed workers are searching for jobs and the Thai workforce is no exception. “The unemployment rate adjust higher and employment growth fell as a consequence of a reduction in production”
3.) Diminishing household consumption and purchasing power: the global financial crisis definitely has reached Thai neighborhood. At the end of fiscal year 2008, Majority of the Thai economic performed poorly owing to decreasing of export, raising unemployment rate, downsizing businesses, and declining GDP. In the beginning of 2009, Thai economy still faced massive effects of the bad financial storm that continually caused insensitive drop in global demand, investment, and export. Reductions of working hours and employment have shrinking buying power caused household and private consumption to fall sharply.

Question: green card petitioners only wait 5 months so why come here illegally? At the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services' Texas Service Center in Dallas, would-be immigrant workers once waited a year or longer for a decision. Now, with the drop in applications and addition of staff, the Texas center has trimmed the average wait for those petitions and the others it processes to about five months, a marked improvement that's still a month shy of the agency's target timeframe

Question: What do you do when a contractor is doing poor work?-Beside bringing it up to the owner.? My folks, who are older, financed some home improvements. The work done thus far is...well it's shitty. I think I could have done a better job. The workers are there for only 2 hours a day and have broken the washing machine and refrigerator in the process. What should we do next?
P.S. Like many older adults...they paid in full (I know, right?).
Answer: contact the owner in writing and list all of the problems
Question: Personality discrimination? Respective, self-starter, professional worker not good enough anymore these days? Is being a respective, self-starter, professional worker not good enough anymore these days?
Details:
In my past work experience I've run across confrontation about my personality. For the most part I do my job, but when it comes to socializing I kind of like to keep it short because it most often leads to drama. Unfortunately, keeping it short has led me to be unemployed once. I used to work as a receptionist at a University. It was a temporary job, and I was hired to specifically assist the Executive Assistant (my supervisor) because she had so much on her plate. My main job duties were to greet visitors, direct them to their destination, answer and direct phone calls, copying, filing, b-day planning, and whatever assistance the other professors needed. Almost daily my supervisor provided me with a list of things to do, which usually took all day. When there wasn't anything to do I would find something else to keep me busy.
As months ensued, complaints from the "head director" (??? - forgot his actual title) came about. His complaints were:
- When walking into the main office I would jump from my seat as if I were doing something I shouldn't have been doing.
- Leaving the door half open appeared unwelcoming.
- I don't take the initiative to offer to help
- He could never tell whether I was happy or sad
These complaints were not made directly to me. The head director spoke to my supervisor and she passed along the information. I was insulted... and my supervisor spoke on my behalf because every complaint could be accounted for except for the first and last complaint, which was total BS. When I showed improvement in these areas more complaints popped up. One day he called to ask how to obtain a parking pass from guests. I explained to him the process, which was to fill out a form and someone would need to take the form to the "campus parking department" (whatever it's called). Immediately following the conversation he e-mailed my supervisor and complained that I did not take initiative to take the parking form to the required place. Once again, I was insulted... I wanted to defend myself, but my supervisor informed me this is the way professional environments are. You don't fight back, you just make the necessary changes and move along. The head director went as far as using my love for Graphic Design against me. In his words, "Do you think it's her love for Graphic Design that makes her a bad receptionist?"
I lost all respect for this man, and...I no longer cared too much for the job. I wasn't hired to put on clown shoes and put on a performance. I did the job...
Eventually, before my temporary contract ended they began preparations make my position a FT job. Of course I applied to the job and by applying I would be considered first. -_- They said they wanted someone who would fit in with the "team" and they wanted someone with a bubbly personality.
Who did they hire? They hired a sickly man who days before working had gastric bypass surgery, living off Crystal-Lite water, and whose personality was far from bubbly. I should mention the new receptionist was a friend of the account manager and acct. manager's assistant.
It's just amazing to me how people get away nepotism. The acct. manager's assistant was a very flamboyant man who sometimes wore make up and hair weaves, loud, and a very nasty attitude.
The new receptionist was also apart of this lifestyle. Months later I visited my then supervisor because we built a close friendship (so I thought), and the new receptionist was talking on new web camera to his friend.
Michr, I'm sure you can read so how about reading the headline question or the first two lines to this post. PS - You're a jerk.
Answer: is there a question here?
sorry you feel so bad about this job but what is it you would like to know?
or did you just need to rant/vent?
get over it and move on worrying about this is not good for you.....
Question: I'm researching miracles. please help? Below is an example that I found that touches my heart:
When Jory Aebly was shot in the head, execution-style during a mugging five weeks ago in Cleveland, Ohio, that should have been the end of it. Doctors at the Metro Health Medical Center told his family it was a "non-survivable" injury, according to the hospital's Web site.
One man accredits former Pope John Paul II with performing a miracle. But Tuesday, a very-much-alive Aebly was wheeled to a press conference before he went home in what some believe is a true "miracle," possibly good enough to help earn deceased Pope John Paul II sainthood.
"It's one in a million," Dr. Robert Geertman, a neurosurgeon involved in Aebly's treatment, said in a press conference just days after the shooting. "My jaw was on the floor after a day or two of seeing he is hanging on. ... I'd say it's pretty miraculous."
The connection between the 26-year-old's incredible recovery and the late pope came in the form of hospital chaplain, Father Art Snedeker, and a single blessed rosary Snedeker gave Aebly soon after the shooting.
"[Pope John Paul II] promised me that he would always pray for the patients at Metro and he blessed a dozen rosaries with special patients here," Snedeker said in the press conference. "The first night that Jory arrived and I performed the sacrament of the sick, I also asked Pope John Paul to pray for Jory and to protect him."
Snedeker gave Aebly the last of the rosaries that were blessed by the pope.
From then on, Aebly repeatedly amazed doctors with consistent improvement culminating in his release Tuesday, just two days before the fourth anniversary of John Paul's death.
"I stand before you today and can say, to my mind, Jory is a miracle," Snedeker said at the press conference.
At the press conference, Aebly's family also showed no shortage of faith concerning Aebly's recovery.
Jory Aebly was shot in the head five weeks ago outside a downtown Cleveland restaurant and was released from Metro Health Medical Center Tuesday.
"I believe in the power of prayer and I firmly believe that your prayers are the reason why I can introduce you to my brave and determined son," Aebly's mother, Deb Wolfram said.
Aebly credited his recovery to "the many prayers from family, friends and co-workers and even people [he] hasn't met."
The Vatican is especially interested in the prayers from one of the people Aebly never met, but one Snedeker is certain prayed for him: Pope John Paul II.
In order to become a saint, candidates needs two official miracles attributed to them. The Vatican is currently investigating hundreds of cases of reported miracles associated with John Paul, but they haven't certified one yet.
"The first stage is beatification where the person is proclaimed blessed on the basis of living a life of heroic virture and also performing one miracle," professor Mathew Schmalz of College of the Holy Cross said. "The second and final stage is when the person becomes a saint and thus is canonized. That happens when a second miracle is documented."
Shortly after he died four years ago today, Pope John Paul II was put on the fast track for sainthood when Pope Benedict personally waived the five-year waiting period usually required for consideration.
Still, a Vatican official said the process could take some time and there is no precise schedule. The Vatican has repeatedly denied rumors that Pope John Paul will be declared a saint in June of this year, which would coincide with the 30th anniversary of his election as pope.
"We cannot predict a precise schedule," Monsignor Angelo Amato, prefect of the Congregation for the Caucus of Saints told Italian news service ANSA. "All stages, including the examination of the miracle, have to be conducted in a particularly thorough way."
If Aebly's recovery is validated as a miracle, it would be enough for Pope John Paul's beatification, leaving just one more before sainthood would be possible.
Here are my questions:
a. Describe the miracle; What happened, when, where, how provide details.
b. What are miracles? Explain how different people are impacted by the miracle or miracles. Is there a healing spiritually?
c. What are your thoughts on the following: Should miracles be an important part or necessary aspect to have or spread faith today?
Answer: I don't know all the details, but I have a brother that is still half brain dead to this day and he walks around like a normal person, has a job, a wife, and 4 kids. He mysteriously got better when he was an infant after my parents took him to see some guy that was a Catholic priest or something. He was known for being able to do this, but I can't remember his name right now. I'd have to ask my mom. But they heard he was going to be somewhere, so they went there out of desperation. They were told that my brother would never walk and that he was pretty much mentally retarded, but he's not anymore.
The problem with these types of stories is that you can tell them all you want, but people who don't want to believe will either write you off or they will try to make up some other reason for the healing. They'll say 'Oh, it was just some unknown medical reason, and it just so happened to occur right after that guy laid his hands on your brother; it was a coincidence.'- Sure, I'm a skeptic too, but some people are skeptic to the point of absurdity.
Question: Unhappy with work environment, is it just a generational gap? Are all company environments truly this way? I stepped into the position from a retiree and he always worked overtime (couple hours a night, all weekend, etc.) just to keep up. Once I began, I had another management position thrown on my plate - on top of the insane workload he already had. I worked hard, made a lot of changes to free up my time so I could take on this second position (with no extra pay!) and now they want to give me a third management position! Appreciation for a job well done? So de-motivating to make positive changes.
I have a lot of wonderful ideas and am constantly looking to make improvements. I value my family, my health and well-being, and being great at my job. I take pride in a job well done, and done smart. I don't agree with being measured on how long you sit at your desk for. It takes a strong, disciplined person to keep balance in their lives. I find previous generations are always stressed out, unhappy, unhealthy, negative, and put work as their top and only priority in life.
I just returned to work from mat leave a couple months ago. I come in on time everyday (even though baby still doesn't sleep at nights!). I never take coffee breaks, I don't smoke, I don't gossip (all I hear all day is other ppl gossiping about eachother), I don't complain (haha except for here, yes I am FINALLY venting!). In turn, I have been trying to sneak out to the gym during my lunch hour and everyone gives me dirty looks, complain to my boss, and tells me how they've slaved away at work over the lunch hour. My work gets done and done extremely well. These people refuse to make changes to processes and procedures done 20 years ago.
Another thing, I was interviewing for a position a couple weeks ago with another manager. I felt the one candidate would have been perfect. He said no, she didn't pass, so I made him sit through the lunch hour to go over every single question. In the end, she did amazing. He then said "well we shouldn't give her a chance, what if she throws in Spanish or something when writing a professional email" (she was from El' Salvador). I was shaking I was so mad and immediately stopped him, could not believe that was said, it's against our basic human rights. Later our boss pulled a picture of her (which is not allowed) and freaked out on the other hiring manager for hiring someone who looked like her. I demanded that she be given a chance, or I would make sure to take this higher, I sat in the hiring room and knew she was amazing. After doing a reference check, they did find that she was indeed amazing and wanted her. UGH! I spoke with a co-worker about this and she said its a mans world out there honey, all businesses are like this, deal with it.
Lastly, my boss I swear is a stalking creep. Since I began he has been calling and texting me at home after work hours all the time. He made several inappropriate comments to me about how fate brought us together, etc. I had 2 face to face meetings with him to discuss that I was uncomfortable with everything and it had to stop. When he found out I was dating my now husband, he became extremely angry and said things to me such as "women who golf are men with ****, all female soccer players are lesbians, it's too bad you can't have it all... you got the brains but your sisters got the looks" and then when I went on mat leave he tried to get my passwords (which IT instructed us to not give to anyone including our manager) he had no reason so I said no... behind my back he got them! The VP found out and was extremely angry with him. His creepy behaviour finally stopped once the VP stepped in though.
Long story, not sure if anyone will read, my apologies, vent is over. Is this how all workplaces are? This has been my only job since I've graduated from University in 2005.
Answer: No - not all workplaces are as you describe. I have been working for 30 years and have had a mix of environments. I have had many good as well as bad work situations. I have had abusive bosses that were eventually demoted as well as bosses who lied about my performance. Other situations were much better where my bosses focused on the quality of our work and allowed us to balance our work lives.
It is up to you to decide how to manage your situation. Be smart and hard working. Don't lose your temper. If you are consistent and correct you will probably eventually succeed.
If you decide to find a new job make sure you have a new job in hand before you quit. It is harder to find work once you are unemployed.
Good luck!
Question: Once you reach Maximum Medical Improvement for a Worker Compensation injury, is it better to quit, or be fired? I perform intense numercial data entry 90% of my day for the past four years of employment. The intensity, and repetitivenes, has caused a possible nerve entrapment in my right elbow, tendonitis in my right shoulder, and a small size ganglion cyst in my right wrist. I have nerve pain radiating from my right ring/pinky fingers, thru my palm, wrist, forearm, elbow, front side of shoulder. The Dr has tested for Carpel Tunnel, and the EEC (?) came back normal, however he has told me that my physical exam shows I have ulnar entrapment. Shoulder mobillity is reduced. I was first seen in May, and have been through both physical, occupational therapies, as well as now Medical deep tissue massage. I was out of work one month. And have been on restricted duties the remainder of time. The Dr is stating he is anticipating MMI within the next 3-6 weeks. Since this injury is an extremety, I have had great difficulty getting attorney assistance. I have had good success calling the CO state labor board for questions. My employer WC Ins, Liberty Mutual has been compliant, thus far in payments. My managers, have been very difficult to communicate with, and I feel borderline harrassing. I am very concerned about possibly losing my job, and what that means to me financially, and for future employability. Colorado is an At Will state, and I understand that. They have accomodated me to this point. Does it matter at this point if I am voluntarily or involuntarily let go from my job for future benefit qualifications? My employer has said they cannot accommodate my injury on a full time basis, therefore, I am fairly confident, when and if I get to MMI, I will not have a job. I am worried about them making up some perfomance related reason for termination, to avoid any Unemployment responsibilities. Any suggestions on this? I am not on any performance warnings, at this time.
Anyone willing to offer expert guidance, or advice through this process?
Answer: I would say your best bet is to fold up and walk on total disibility the company isnt going to do anything for you Its time to be in total pain and be unable to work your doc will have to go along if you are stating things that way then you will have no problem getting an atty I went through this 20 years ago I was able to pay cash for my home by the time i waqs done with them
Question: Checking grammar and structure? These are my intro and body of my argumentative essay could people make it better, change sentence is ok!! make it better for me^^ thanks
Globalisation is a process of international industrialisation and urbanisation, and integration of economics and societies. It has turned the world into a more complex environment. Not only has the world changed in the way it used to spin but it has also changed the way we live. Nowadays, globalization becomes a controversial and much debated topic in the world. Many countries have experienced increased growth and prosperity from expanded international trade and the development of technology and communication. Is globalisation a positive force for change around the globe? The issue of whether or not globalisation is a positive force for change around the world is important, because it alters our living standards, ideology and values. There are several arguments that point to the positive impacts of globalization; however, some people think that globalization have a lot of negative influences, such as favour the rich countries, climate change, and deteriorated human development. This essay will argue the fact that globalization is a positive force for altering the world. The arguments include more job opportunity, advanced in economics, and less poverty.
The main argument proving globalization is a positive influence to the globe is that globalization produces more job opportunity. According to the article “A brief on globalization” (2002), globalization has not only created more job opportunities, but also increased the income levels which people obtain. The article has also stated that hundreds of millions of jobs has been raised mainly in the developing countries. Beside, companies with intention to oriented United States pay five to twenty percent more than other companies to their workers. For instance, in Australia, exporting companies offer higher wages, greater constancy of job, safer workplaces and more training (Globalization: keeping the gains n.d.). The higher and faster growth of economy within a country indicates that, globalization is beneficial in both domestic economy and world economy.
The second argument in support of globalization is an affirmative force for chancing the globe is that globalization advances a country’s economy. Through globalization, more open markets and trades, and raised management practices and workplace arrangements, these processes have revolutionized Australian industry (Globalization: keeping the gains n.d.). With the improvement of information technologies, such as the internet and the instantaneous delivery, the world economy has grown effectively (A brief on globalization 2002). According to the article “Globalisation: keeping the gains” (n.d.) many countries which have opened their economies internationally have a faster growth rate compare with other countries which did not open globally. This indicates that international trade helps countries’ economies, and this often happens in developing countries. Therefore it is clear that, globalization increase the growth of both domestic economy and world economy.
Answer: Please make your questions short in order for you to be answered.

Answer: Globalization positively influences the world economy. Globalization produces more job opportunities and increases income levels. The article “A brief on globalization” written by xxxxxxxx states that globalization created hundreds of millions of jobs in the developing countries. In Australia, exporting companies offer higher wages, higher job security, safer workplaces and more training. Companies that trade with the United States pay five to twenty percent more higher salaries than other companies. Globalization, opened markets, raised management practices and workplace arrangements, revolutionizing Australian industry according to Globalization: keeping the gains n.d. written by xxxxxxx, which also states many countries which have opened their economies internationally grew faster than countries which did not open globally. Therefore, globalization increased growth in both the domestic economy and the world economy.
Question: What is the difference between a professional and a bureaucrat? I work as a consultant in a process improvement capacity. I am filling in for a former co-worker on a job - he left for a much higher paying job- and I am dismayed that the amount of paperwork he has put in place that doesn't have (in my opinion) much to do with actually getting work done in an efficient and effective manner.
We have Quality Plan documents and Test Plan documents and Test Case documents, all very long, with overlapping details and items that don't fit the work at hand. They all look really professional and no one at the client company appears to be questioning what he did. This has been bugging me for weeks.
Answer: If no one is complaining, things might not be working at their best, but they are working. Now, since you've mentioned you work in a process improvement capacity I'd encourage you to improve the processes you think are too complex. Everyone wants things as simple as possible, especially at work. If the processes there are unnecessarily complex in your view, raise that KISS (keep it short and simple) flag and start implementing your ideas.
You will be acknowledged for that, but it will take time. Though people like simple processes they're usually reluctant to change, as you probably know very well.
Good luck!
Question: What to expect from a home visit? We are starting the process for an international adoption. Part of this is a home visit with a social worker. I am wondering what I can expect from this. Is it somewhat informal where they check out our home to make sure it is clean and safe or it is more in depth. Should we do some home improvement projects (i.e. paint the bedroom, clean up the landscaping, etc.). If it helps we are going through All of God's Children. Any information on the process would be helpful.
Answer: The information varies a little bit country to country and agency to agency. But with over 20 years in adoption work, and having approved over 400 families to adopt, I can tell you what we looked for. Many of these requirements are set in stone in our state, as they are with every state. And then the agency approving you will also have their own requirements -- some may have "Christian only" or "No smoking" reqirments, for example. But the basic requirements are as follows:
Job and job history - stable employment history
Salary - decent stable salary reflected on your tax returns, pay stubs and employment letters
Taxes - good history of completing verifiable tax returns
Marriages - usually look at number (less than three is preferable!) and length of current marriage (usually 3+ years)
Divorces - will need copies of the decrees, and names of exes, as well as explanation of reason for divorce
Children - children will be interviewed, even if live with you part time or if they are grown
References - must have personal and professional (therapist, rabbi, teacher) references who have known you both for 5+ years ideally
Medical - letters from doc stating no communicable or catastrophic ilnesses/diseases, and state that you are mentally/emotionally and physically stable
Mental - stability
Abuse history - from childhood on up, history and how you have resolved or coped with it
Arrests - if you have one, why and when, with details, and resolution, verified by criminal and child abuse background checks in all states where you have lived
Income - must be sufficient to more than just pay all bills and expenses, and not be in debt or bankruptcy
Pets - must be child friendly and up on all vaccinations and healthy
Home - must have a "home" -- not just a house -- can be an apartment or house, but needs to be organized, warm and child friendly and safe
Cars - do not have to be new, but need to be safe and dependable with approved car seats
Friends/neighbors - appropriate, not partiers and moochers
Family - need to be enthusiastic about the adoption for the sake of the child!
Counseling - history of marriage counseling and resolution, as well as mental health counseling and therapist's names and reports
Alcohol and drugs - no drug use and alcohol in strict moderation, and if have history of addictions, must have proof of resolution
Lifestyle - generally fit and appropriate for children, such as not a "clubber" or partier, no risky habits
Hobbies - what you do with your spare time
Religion/Spirituality - do not have to attend church unless the specific agency reqires it, and some birthmothers want only a certian religion or practice or the absence of it
Motivation to adopt - why and history of desire to adopt
History with children - caring for nieces/nephews or friend's children, or volunteer work documnted
Childhood - everything from your birth on up, such as family activites, discipline, parental roles, discipline, etc.
Family of origin - how close are you now and how often do you stay in contact, etc.
Marriage - stability and strengths and weaknesses, duration, usually at least 3 years
Sex life - normal, agreeable to both (indication of stability)
Exes - why ex relationships ended
Attitudes toward birthparents - caring, open, appreciative or want nothing to do with her (indication of attitude towards child as well)
Attitudes towards people of different socio-economic status - general attitudes reflect how you may see child, or birth parents
Attitudes about continuing contact with birthmother - open, semi open or closed -- most agencies will not work with families who want a closed adoption as this is not in the best interest of the child
Expectations of child - are the expectations realistic or not, such as must be bright and look like us (argh)
Health Insurance - must have adequate medical insurance for the child, as well as for selves
ETC.!! Good luck to you!!
Question: Question about legal loan process.? Hi I have a simple but little tricky question.
I believe there are three ways to purchase a house.
1.Pay cash - If you are a millionaire..
2.Hire Mortgage Broker - They will contact with Wholesale Lender
3.Contact with Bank directly - Bank has it's own Loan Officer.
*If someone doesn't tell the difference between mortgage broker and loan officer, go to yahoo and search "mortgage broker vs. loan officer" .
Here is my story.
Year 2004 I met Mr.Kim who was a mortgage broker. He always tell others that if someone wants to buy a house, they have to hire a mortgage broker to process their loan(He was acting that option #3 does not exist. That way he could get more jobs to sell.). *Someone might say "Why did you trust the mortgage broker? You are stupid..." You will be surprised to know how so many people have no knowledge about these whatsoever.
Anyway I trusted him and year 2005 I purchased my first house.
I filled out loan application and prepared all the documents which was prepared by Mr.Kim. The loan was approved: both first and second lender was major Banks. Exactly 2months later, I received a check book by XX (also major bank) bank. I asked my mortgage broker about this and he said that this was a home equity line of credit by XX bank (3rd mortgage): it was issued based on the current value of my property (there's no loan application and no appraisal report..ect.) and my excellent credit. I had no doubt about this at that time (because it was issued from a major bank) and I used the money for home improvement. My mortgage broker, Kim was sentenced for financial fraud for other cases(currently he is in federal prison)
In the mean time, my mortgage payment was increased dramatically because it was a MTA program which I had no idea what that was at that time... My monthly payment doubled after 2 years and I had reached a point where I could not make all three mortgage payment including the 3rd mortgage. As the real estate market crashed, the value of my house dropped greatly and I could no longer able to make payment. I knew something was not right. I heard about Mortgage Audit from internet one day and decided to do that. I requested all the documents (including original loan applications..) from the all three lenders.
I was surprised to see that there were loan officer's name which I had no idea because I had never met any loan officers. Not only that but also the information on the loan application had wrong information which was prepared by mortgage broker?? or the loan officer??
Since the lender was not a whole sale lender, I had learned that the loan officer from the lender must meet with the borrower directly(Patriot Act?).
What do you think about this whole loan process? I want to know how big crime it is when the loan officer never contacted the borrower and accept all the documents from the mortgage broker and approve the loan despite of all the wrong information on the loan documents??
* Some of you might say, "You signed the documents at the settlement and it is your responsibility"
However both the mortgage broker and the title agent are currently imprisoned. During the settlement, it is almost impossible to review every single document and sign them. I had to trust whatever I sign because it was conducted by title lawyer. Who would not trust "LAWYER" ?? DO YOU THINK LENDER GAVE US A MONEY BECAUSE THEY ARE CHARITY WORKERS?
Answer: You may find it impossible to read everything before you sign it, but it is not impossble. I have done it several times. We take a break of an hour or so and I read every word. If you sign stuff blindly, the conclusion is that the terms don't matter to you and you would have signed it regardless of the terms.
Question: automotivetoday? Taking the concepts of the Toyota System and enhancing them with today’s information systems technology has been the key to allow some manufacturers to unlock the door that leads to a short-cut in process improvement projects. They are rethinking the good ideas of lean manufacturing and are using today’s factory floor information tools to quickly and easily improve factory floor performance, customer responsiveness and their bottom line.
Process improvement through a leaner approach and finite scheduling for the factory floor can be demonstrated in a number of ways:
Minimize cycle time
Minimize inventory
Meet customer expectations in quality and delivery
Look for ways to improve changeover
Empower the workers
Create a culture for continuous improvement
Creating a “culture” for continuous improvement can be realized through another lean concept… the use of visual aids. By making the

Answer: I agree with the idea. But I do not see a question here!
Question: what are the channels of distribution of perdue farms inc.? 1.Perdue Farms, Inc., has been a privately held family owned company since 1920. Over the years Perdue has become vertically integrated in order to be more competitive and maintain financial stability. Perdue’s objective is to be the leader in broiler and related poultry products in the industry. They strive to maintain quality and constantly improve efficiency and service, both today and in the future.
Perdue Farms Inc. has a mission to provide the highest quality poultry and poultry related products to retail and food service customers. They want to be the recognized industry leader in quality and service, providing more than expected from their customers, associates, and owners. They will accomplish this by maintaining a tradition of pride in their products, growth through innovation, integrity in the management of their business, and commitment to Team Management and the Quality improvement process.
Perdue’s overall mission is strong but a strategy for long term growth and market development needs to be reviewed and evaluated.
2.Perdue Farms Inc. has numerous external opportunities and threats. The external opportunities that effect Perdue are as follows;
•To broadly diversify and have greater market share, domestically and internationally
•To increase marketing of healthy image products that envelops a strong niche market.
•To ship via plane, to maintain fresh not frozen broilers and increase market share and penetration.
•Develop new markets in the Upper Mid-west to increase market share.
•Increase sales of food service chicken and turkey from 20% of overall sales to 30% due to a strong 12% growth rate.
•To expand the international grain and oilseed market
•With an increase push on health in 1994, chicken sales are up over red meat sales.
•Average annual consumption of chicken is up to 80lbs/person/year, an all time high.
The external threats are as follows:
•Most of the competition sells frozen products for less money.
•Perdue’s cost to raise chickens is above the national average.
•Growth rate in chicken sales is only 5% due to lack of frozen line.
•Over capacity of chickens has reduced wholesale prices, which reduces profit margins.
•Competition is strong in broiler industry with 53 competitors.
•Untapped markets in the Upper Mid- west need to be explored.
1.The Perdue Farms, Co. has internal strengths and weaknesses that need to be addressed and evaluated; The strengths are as follows;
•Perdue is vertically integrated which means that they produce the chickens, they breed, hatch the eggs, they select the growers, build Perdue chicken houses, formulate and manufacture their feed, oversee care and feeding, operate their own processing plants, distribute via truck and marketing. They now also sell what used to be waste, such as the chicken feet that is sold to the Orient as a delicacy.
•Privately held firm
•Technologically advanced, ex.,20% more breast meat than the competition
•Birds are fed organically and not feed additives.
•Sell both raw and pre-cooked chickens and turkeys.
•Good compensation package to the workers.
•Non-union company.
•MIS efficient and essential to operating the business.
•Good variety from fresh oven stuffer roasters, cooked prepared foods, cutlets, tenders, Fit n easy and much more.
•Good TQM with mission and vision
•Excellent R&D for better meat to bone ratios.
•Keep overhead low, quality up
•Great diverse product line that has changed with consumer changes.
•Horizontal diversification when they bought Showell Farms, which made them the third largest producer in the broiler industry.
•Great social responsibility, code of ethics
•Environmentally concerned about waste and prevention
•Strong effective marketing
The weaknesses in the Perdue Farm, Inc. case are as follows;
•They only sell fresh not frozen chickens
•Deliveries are only made by truck so the radius to overnight chickens is limited.
•Lack of long-term planning for future changes
4) I would suggest a strategy that Perdue would focus on maintaining their quality and efficiency along with plans for extensive market development. I would like to see them expand into the Upper mid-west before other markets gain strong holds and market share. If Perdue plans on maintaining their place in the market they need to expand and continue to diversify their products to attract niche markets and stay ahead of the competition.
According to Porter’s generic strategies, he points out that in order to gain the competitive advantage companies need to draw from three bases: cost leadership, differentiation, and focus.
In my study of Perdue, I feel that they are a differentiation and focus orientated company. First, I see Perdue as a leader in quality and efficiency but not a cost leader. Cost leadership implies that you strive to be the low-cost producer in your particular industry. This is to the contrary for Perdue; they have marketed in a way to make the consumer pay a little more for a better product. In fact, this did not happen by accident. Perdue did not want to be known as the cheapest but to be the best quality for the consumer, at a fair price. What Perdue does take from cost leadership is that they are highly efficient, low overhead, their intolerance to waste, broad span of control, rewards linked to efficiency and cost cutting measures and open lines of communication between workers and upper management. Perdue’s successful strategy of horizontal integration to gain competitive advantage was to purchase Showell Farms which made Perdue the third largest broiler company in the United States.
I see Perdue as being highly successful with differentiation, which implies that they produce products, and services that are considered unique, industry wide and directed at consumers who are relatively price-in-sensitive. Perdue has ongoing product development, which states that they seek to increase sales by improving, or modifying present products or services. Perdue has been an industry leader with constant attention paid to consumer wants and needs. They watch trends such as fitness and weight consciousness, by introducing the Fit n Easy line that markets skinless and boneless chicken parts with nutritional information and recipes. Perdue also followed the trend of the working family and began to market prepared foods, which has done extremely well. Prepared foods such as pre-cooked chickens, turkeys, parts, nuggets, and the like sell easily to working families.
Finally, I see Perdue’s strongest strategy according to Porter is focus. Perdue has wonderful R&D that constantly follows market trends and changes that will be beneficial to their growth. Perdue has never forgotten where they came from and this is what makes them strong. Focus allows them to change with the times and not become over diversified where they overlook their cash cows and forget to nurture their stars. Perdue knows that quality and efficiency are at the heart of their operation and do not stray from that. Their innovation and integrity to be the leader has brought them customer loyalty and appreciation for quality where price is not the number one factor.
Perdue’s ability to focus on strong team management has allowed them to penetrate and develop new markets with ease. Perdue has a high penetration of advertising on TV and print along with opening up new territories to further expand their market share. Their vision has been a good guide and has led them to a very successful value chain. Perdue’s attention to detail in every aspect of the business has been proven successful and the financial status of the company reflects it.
Today, Perdue, is further expanding with new acquisitions and product lines. Their innovative thinking and drive to be the leader shows in all they do. In 1997 they started marketing their Café Perdue line and have seen slow, with steady success. Perdue’s prepared foods are selling incredibly well with the American family on the run. As of September 1998, Perdue made a new acquisition, toward horizontal integration, with GOL-PAK, a competitor in the foodservice and prepared foods business. The new relationship will further enhance Perdue’s prepared food and foodservice business. GOL-PAK specialized in the development and production of products primarily for the foodservice industry with a list including the top 100 chain restaurants. Perdue sees this as a significant purchase to enhance their reputation and make them strong contenders in the prepared food and foodservice industry.
CEO, Jim Perdue, feels that they are well positioned in the market place and continued growth along with R&D will help them to maintain quality and efficiency, along with strong market penetration and market share.

Question: Do you think our immigration crisis will finally be gotten under control? http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,272676,00.html
he proposed agreement would allow illegal immigrants to come forward and obtain a probationary "Z visa" and — after paying fees and fines of up to $5,000 and returning to their home countries — ultimately try for permanent residency, which could take between eight and 13 years. The process couldn't begin until border security improvements and a high-tech worker identification program were completed.
A new temporary guest worker program would also have to wait until those so-called "triggers" had been activated. And all but the highest-skilled temporary workers would have to return home after work stints of two or three years, with barely any opportunity to apply for permanent legal status or ever become U.S. citizens.
Answer: Unlawful Entry is a CRIME. Zero tolerance for immigration-law violators! No amnesty, no "stealth-amnesty." No "change of status," marriage fraud, "exceptional leave to remain," no "Temporary Protected Status." If you break the law, depart or be deported. Illegal aliens kill more US citizens each year than the war in Iraq has killed in four years. Apologists for illegal immigration like to paint it as a victimless crime. But in fact, illegal immigration causes substantial harm to American citizens and legal immigrants, particularly those in the most vulnerable sectors of our population--the poor, minorities, and children. Additionally, job competition by waves of illegal immigrants willing to work at substandard wages and working conditions depresses the wages of American workers, hitting hardest at minority workers and those without high school degrees. Illegal immigration also contributes to the dramatic population growth overwhelming communities across America--crowding school classrooms, consuming already limited affordable housing, and straining precious natural resources like water, energy, and forestland. Taxpayers are being forced to pay for the free health care, education, and other welfare programs being given to illegal aliens; Those tax dollars could be given back to U.S. taxpayers or used to keep our borders secure; They may be here illegally, but they sure know how to "work the system" to collect "free" medical care, "free" education, "free" food, Section 8 housing vouchers and other housing assistance, and hundreds of other social services. It costs citizens additional hundreds of billions of tax dollars at every level: local, state, and federal. It gobbles up billions of our charitable contributions. And much of that money ends up siphoned out of our economy and into offshore accounts. Illegal aliens, over half of whom work "under the table" with neither job nor income reported (nor taxed), are not counted as employed or unemployed. But some of those day-labor and off-the-books "job-lets" would be "real" jobs - available to American citizen job-seekers - if employment regulations were enforced. Illegal aliens can get away with tax evasion, et al., which citizens cannot. In short, we have too many workforce entrants and too few jobs created. The ratio works out to roughly 7-10 workforce entrants per job created. If all illegal aliens depart or are deported, all legal immigration halted, and all temporary employment visas abolished, we still have a problem with more US-born workforce entrants than new jobs created. Illegal immigration damages our country and our citizens every day at every level. And not even the attacks of 2/26 and 9/11 have awakened many Americans to the vast dangers illegal immigration poses to our selves, our families, our communities, our society, our values, our principles, our civilization. Zero Tolerance for Immigration-Law Violators! We must remember the lessons of 2/26, 9/11, and the costs we bear every single day. God Bless the U S A !
Question: Does this sound like a conclusion that will get me a distinction? It's for business A Level.
Employing someone with suitable communication and personal attributes for the customer service executive post is highly advantageous to Truck Supplies Ltd and indeed highly important to any organisation.
The author believes that the customer service executive has two main job roles: working with the business’ customers and working with the business’ employees. By working with both groups of people, an organisation can soon boast of excellent customer services.
Business managers can decide to train their staff on customer services improvement using in-houses methods (themselves) or by out-sourcing but in the end, these methods become a waste of time and money respectively compared with hiring a customer service executive. With a customer service executive, Truck Supplies Ltd can provide in-house training through an employee knowledged to know that customer services is an important branch of every organisation and experienced enough to know methods with which business employees can improve their service to customers. As a bonus, this will not cost the business any extras as outsourcing would because it is part of the customer service executive’s job description.
Not only does the executive have to have to be experienced in customer service but it is necessary that they are good with people so that the training process goes as smoothly as possible meaning there are no arguments, employees don’t feel like the customer service executive is too authoritative with them and they actually enjoy the training session so that they are more likely to remember everything they are taught.
Further to increasing customer service knowledge among employees, an executive who is a good team player will inevitably help with team building by creating better team players among staff members. This is beneficial to a business because employees who work better as teams instead of individually always fulfil objectives and tasks quicker.
In respect to Truck Supplies Ltd, the executive will inevitably increase sales for the business by investigating the website’s development. IT literacy has an important part to play in this sales increase because the customer service executive will not be able to begin investigating without adequate knowledge of IT applications that can be used to set up transactional features on the website. As most businesses (if not all) make use of IT equipment in their daily routine, it would be scarce to find an experienced job candidate who has no experience with using the most basic IT equipments. Businesses need to comprehend that hiring an employee without such experience would leave them at a disadvantage money and time wise.
Whether it is a friendly chat to a co-worker or a formal meeting with business partners, employees will always have to communicate frequently within the workplace. A professional business employee should be able to adapt the methods of communication to suit the different situations of which are being received. Every employee of an organisation should be professional and focused enough to know what situations warrant what methods of communication. For example, when the customer service executive learns that they have the task of persuading potential customers of the benefits of purchasing spare parts from Truck Supplies Ltd, it is essential that they obtain some idea of the make-up of the audience before preparing the communication. With this information, they should be skilled enough to decide on making use of formal and engaging communications like presentations alongside favourable business reports or even video conferences if the situation warrants. If this is done with a professional approach, the potential customers should be impressed and choose to purchase from Truck Supplies Ltd. If not, the business thereby loses important customers.
Answer: I'm not an expert - but, I reckon so.....it reads well....may I point out one or two tiny things which I think need amendment?
In the first paragraph - there is no need for the apostrophes on 'business' (I know it seems that way, but trust me - it's not normal to write it as you have done) If you still think it should be that way, shouldn't you also write 'Business' Manager'?
1)
As a bonus, this will not cost the business (any extras as)(any more than) out-sourcing would because it is part of the customer service executive’s job description.
2)Fourth line down -last paragraph......to suit the different situations of which are being received....t have you amended an earlier version of this? It doesn't sound right
....and I'm not sure about the meaning of 9th line down same paragraph
.3)...making use of formal and 'engaging'? communications 'like' presentations alongside.....'like' do you mean 'such as'...if so 'such as' would be better here.

Answer: While it's possible to earn this kind of money with only a high school education it's very rare that it happens. What you describe is a consulting engineer. You need to get a BS or MS in engineering and then get some experience under your belt. Your time line is way too fast. You need time to earn a reputation as a top notch engineer. Then you can command some very good wages.
Question: Is taxing one the same as taxing all? I have taken enough economics courses to have some amateur insight into the state of things, and one thing I have always known to be a general truth is that lowering taxes spurs economic growth while raising taxes inhibits growth (i.e., less money to spend on employees, improvements, expansion, etc...)
So, if we tax businesses, they pass on the tax by raising prices or laying off employees.
If we tax the workers, they have less money to buy products made by the businesses.
So any tax on any segment of our society really hits all of us in a sense. Sure, some worker might like Obama's freebee check for $800, but that hardly helps if the worker loses his job in the process, or if prices climb to the point that he's spending an extra $800 per year anyway.
So, is taxing one the same as taxing all? Thoughts?
Answer: Yeah, I have the same fears. Not only will corporations, that will be taxed higher, start looking for ways to cut costs, thus laying off more people, we now have to worry about Obama finding new ways to increase tax revenues. Most likely in the form of entertainment tax, non-environmentally friendly tax, carbon footprint tax, unhealthy eating tax, healthy eating tax, clean water tax and so on.
Seems to me that one might save $800 in income taxes but will most likely spend more on other taxes for that $800. And Obama will still be talking about "change" and how he will not raise taxes on income less than $250,000.
Question: i dont understand what this question is asking. help please.? This is the question (Summarize your recommendations for this corporation in terms of what they should be looking for in their results from the point of view of QUALITY ASSURANCE and MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE)
to improve profitability in its manufacturing operations. The company had very good metrics for managing plant and assembly operations. The problem was that each facility used different methodologies for standards development and line balancing. While these techniques had resulted in productivity gains, management believed more significant and consistent results could be achieved using a proven, consistent methodology.
For the initiative to be truly successful, the company would need to change not only the technical side of its manufacturing process, but also the company culture, including how its employees performed their jobs. Prior to the project, the typical line re-engineering took an average of six months to complete and implement. With such a significant savings opportunity, the company wanted to realize the savings much faster than six months per line. To accelerate the realization of this cost savings opportunity, the company reviewed proposals from several consulting providers before choosing you to assist them with the improvement initiative.
To begin, the company wanted to balance assembly lines in three separate facilities. This would allow the company to increase assembly line productivity, while creating a consistent balancing tool for multiple facilities. The initiative would also provide the companies engineers with a tool to evaluate method improvement ideas in a timely and accurate manner, and offer tools, training and documented processes for supervisors to follow in other manufacturing plants. To achieve success, the company needed a consistent methodology that would allow workers across its manufacturing facilities to “speak the same language,” by using the same tools and techniques.
so im really not sure what this question is asking. but this is what i got so far, is it right and am i on the right track and also can you also give me more ideas to add thanks alot
This is what i got (From what I read you need my recommendations in the following areas: Quality Assurance and Management structure. Let me start off stating what Quality Assurance is. QA is an operational activity whose primary focus is to make sure that the firm’s overall quality objectives are met. It is a great idea to make QA plan for every project to make sure the final products are of the upmost quality. First you need to find out what needs to be done. Next you need to make sure you know your quality objectives for the product. After you discovered that it is good to write down all the roles and their responsibility for the project and give the workers their roles. It is important to make sure after assigning their roles they understand everything it’s asking of them. Lastly set a deadline in which these roles are to be complete. If you follow this the quality of the product will never change.)
Answer: I can be very brief. There is no question. Other than the one Y!A obliges you to place at the end of your headline, no question mark occurs from beginning to end of the text.
You are simply asked to provide recommendations concerning the state and intentions of this company. You are well on the way to doing this but you still need to get critically to grips with the detail of their proposals to overcome their structural difficulties. You've some way to go yet
Question: Here's a thought, for the pro-Mexico crowd: Start more orchards in Mexico? At issue is employing the peoples of Mexico, and giving them wages and so forth. That does generally seem to be the goal, here. Sooooo....why not start more agriculture in Mexico, and turn Mexico into a global food exporter? Non-arable land can be turned into farmland with some work, I know there's a lot of workers in Mexico 'cause that's all we seem to hear about anymore. So,
get people working building more farms there. Soil improvements, irrigation projects, processing places, all these things are good, it's been proven in america, so why not do more of it in Mexico?
I'm in favor of a strong, self-supporting Mexico, because I think it'll only benefit america. What I don't like is seeing a lot of people harping on why they should be permitted to break our border laws.
With all this industry potential, why hasn't it 'kicked' wide open in Mexico, yet? C'mon, now...
Answer: MAYBE BECAUSE OF THE 1.50 MINUMUM WAGE IN MEXICO. COMPARED TO THE 7.85 MINUMUM WAGE HERE. WHAT WOULD YOU DO, STAY THERE OR FIND A WAY TO COME HERE.???????????????
Question: What kind of violation is this.?
Answer: Your question gave me a headache.
I would suggest strongly that you contact an attorney that specializes in real estate.
To me it sounds like you may have a case based on fraud, simply on the basis that your broker seemed to have filled out and filed papers on your behalf with out your approval.
Good luck.

Answer: Charity workers? I doubt it. Greed is more like it.
Sounds like you're reaching out for validation since only attorneys are qualified to give advice in your situation. Unfortunately, you are among the countless of others victimized by the unethical practices of predatory lending. Thankfully, some of those involved in your transaction are getting their just due now in prison. Sadly, too many others guilty of the same predatory lending practices are still amongst us. The travesty is their "crime" has resulted in this financial crisis ALL of us are now experiencing.
If you're wondering what now to do, accept your situation, confront it head on and deal with it through those now servicing your loan. On the upside, the nation is sympathetic to those like yourself especially if your loan(s) is with one of those who've received bailout assistance. They are expected to work with you. Suggest a no-cost refinance at their lowest interest rate. If the payment(s) is(are) still too high at the lowest rate, request a longer amortization schedule, for example a 40-yr loan.
Your anger is understandable, however, get past it and get help. I sincerely hope help comes to you quickly.
Question: Simply these sentence.? These are Deming's TQM approach disadvantages. I read them carefully for 20/30 minute trying to understand them but to be fair, it's bit hard to understand them in details with so many business jargons. So I was wondering if anyone can please translate them in much easier way (or explain what they mean briefly or in-depth?).
Thank you so much in advance and 10 points definitely for anyone who does it. Thank you again...
"
1) May limit an organization’s flexibility and agility. While a long-term plan is required to achieve a complete quality transformation, but a long-term plan that has been pursued for a long period may become an end unto itself.
(2) It calls for organizational change, it does not demand radical organizational reform. Real quality improvement requires radical structural change, such as flattening organizational structures. It requires liberation of employees from stifling control systems and the tyranny of functionalism, both of which stifle teamwork.
(3) It delegates the determination of quality to quality experts rather than to "real" people. It takes what is common sense to the ordinary worker and makes it sound complicated by changing the name and dressing it up with technical language.
(4) It calls for the elimination of performance assessments that rate employees in relation to each other. Many managers feel performance assessments let them document employee performance for possible reward, but some employees fear the assessments might be used against them in some disciplinary actions. Performance assessments may give employees with grievances the documentation they need to prove managers are treating them unfairly. Without them, managers could make unfair accusations about an employee’s performance and the employee would not have the documentation to counter the claims.
(5) It focuses manager attention on internal processes rather than on external results. When this is taken to an extreme, managers may become too preoccupied with internal issues and ignore the shifting perceptions of customers."
Answer: 1.) It keeps a business from changing and changing fast, i.e., responding to market forces like change in customer tastes or new ways of doing things due to technological advancement. It means that the business is so engrossed in following the long term quality improvement plan, that it is blind to everything else.
2.) The “change” it proposes is just window dressing, i.e., it comes up short. This is because changes that produce wanted results is achieved by “radical reform”. Examples of radical reform : flattening organizational structures = removing the “supervisors”, ”managers”, “supervisor’s super” and replacing it with workers of the same or similar rank (peers) ,
This way you’re not afraid of approaching your boss, ideas are bounced around, suggestions and feedback easier to get from people who actually do the job and are more likely to know it best. Furthermore peers are more likely to talk to each other, collaborate, and divide work according to each person’s strength. Functionalism = >do step 1, 2,3,4,5 repeat, do not deviate.
3.) One fine day some shmuck comes along and becomes the “expert” on the job you’ve been doing day in day out for a long time. It also “repackages” things so it sounds new, so as to give the impression that “quality improvement” is going on. When the person who pumps gas at the station becomes the “Customer Facilitation Rep” you know that its all nonsense.
4.) It calls for removing performance assessment i.e., grading of work in comparison with other workers. This is disadvantageous as performance assessment is frequently used in businesses as a way to rank then reward or punish workers. As a way to provide documentation of work performance, i.e, performance assessment is just to important to just remove.
5.) This ties in with point no.1; you’re so occupied with improving how you do things in the business, i.e, so preoccupied with getting the flowers in time, getting them in the correct quantity, price, packaging, on ward delivery that you forget the fact that your customers do not find that particular flower arrangement interesting. It blind sights you into serving yourself and forgetting why you are in business at the first place.
Question: Why not accept all dates? Whats the worst that can happen? Say a guy asks you out, but you dont find him extremely interesting. What is the worst that can happen? Please read the rest, I need to hear your opinions on this - in my mind (20 years old and never dated, consider me naive) the following are most likely to occur:
1) You get a free meal, maybe catch a movie;
2) You get a night out, and a possibly better time than you would have had otherwise;
3) You gain expertise in the art and methodology of dating;
4) You learn about what you ACTUALLY like in a guy, not what you think you like, or what you think/know you should like;
5) Some potential self improvement may occur: you may become aware of some awkward situation you might have create by accident, and may learn to avoid them on future dates or get-togethers;
6) You might form a long lasting and/or meaningful relationship with someone that you would have otherwise turned down and never experienced;
7) If you find out that the guy is not dating material, you will at least expand your network by 1+ person: this guy may be the manager of a company you've always wanted to work at, now you know his first and last name, his number, and some of his interests;
8) You will probably learn some stuff, boring or interesting: if the guy is totally boring and talks ON, and ON, and ON about the Matrix and how it is a reflection on the Bible, you know that much more than you did before the date, and will be able to participate in similar conversations in the future (be they with co-workers, friends, etc.)
9) ...
10) ...
The list goes on, and on, and on. What is the worst than can happen? Here are some possibilities (again, I am naive, as I previously stated):
1) You dont like him, but he keeps on calling or stalks you: I am guessing that this is pretty rare if you only went on one date;
2) The guy is a DOG, and comes on strong: you gain experience in turning a guy down, being stern and not accidentally leading him on in the process (I've heard of this happening, scary stuff);
3) The guy is married, has a kid, or is dating some crazy girl: now you know the signs, and will be more aware of them the next time you encounter a guy. Maybe he is single and a good dad, and you've always wanted a family - could be the beginning of the rest of your life;
4) ...
5) ...
Sure, there are some worst case scenarios, but arent they rare and far-between?
So after all of this, why not accept all dates? Do the benefits not outweigh the costs?
I'm so excited to hear your responses.
Answer: It's not as rare as you might think for men to get obsessive and creepy. Since I usually err on the side of giving people a chance, I've had to contend with a lot of really irritating fellows. I'm just a moderately attractive girl, but I've had more men than I can count on two hands simply be unable to get a clue and stop calling, texting, or talking to me when I've made it clear (in words, not just in giving them the cold shoulder) that I am not interested. Having to deal with that can be anything from annoying to frightening. An awkward night out definitely isn't worth that kind of hassle and stress.
I work as an advocate on a sexual assault crisis line and I can tell you that date rape, stalking, and the like are NOT unusual.
Also, if the choice is a night spent doing something fun with my bros versus going on a date with an awkward dude whom I honestly can't see myself liking... Hanging out with my friends tends to win. This might be a choice influenced by my being unwilling to let people I am not one hundred percent into pay for my food/entertainment/what-have-you-- if I accept someone's generosity, it's because I anticipate reciprocating someday.
I never take coffee breaks, I don't smoke, I don't gossip, I don't complain (haha except for here, yes I am FINALLY venting!).
When he found out I was dating my now husband, he became extremely angry and said things to me such as "women who golf are men with tits, all female soccer players are lesbians, it's too bad you can't have it all... you got the brains but your sisters got the looks" and then when I went on mat leave he tried to get my passwords (which IT instructed us to not give to anyone including our manager) he had no reason so I said no... behind my back he got them! The VP found out and was extremely angry with him. His creepy behaviour finally stopped once the VP stepped in though.
Long story, not sure if anyone will read, my apologies, vent is over. Is this how all workplaces are? This has been my only job since I've graduated from University in 2005.
I am in a management position with the government. It does pay very well, I nearly double my husbands income!
Answer: No, sounds like your being taken advantage of and your opinion does not count. Go look for a new job. They will treat you better. Another thing, does the job pay well? If so, then that explains why you are getting all that BS. My highest paying job was stressfull and I hated it dearly. My current job I love to death, its low stress, everyone is easy to get along with but it does not pay enough.
