Question: ...Problem Solving...? A Software Engineer, a Hardware Engineer and a Departmental Manager were on their way to a meeting in Switzerland. They were driving down a steep mountain road when suddenly the brakes on their car failed. The car careened almost out of control down the road, bouncing off the crash barriers, until it miraculously ground to a halt, scraping along the mountainside.
The car's occupants, shaken but unhurt, now had a problem: they were stuck halfway down a mountain in a car with no brakes. What were they to do?
"I know", said the Departmental Manager, "Let's have a meeting, propose a Vision, formulate a Mission Statement, define some Goals, and by a process of Continuous Improvement find a solution to the Critical Problems, and we can be on our way."
"No, no", said the Hardware Engineer, "That will take far too long, and besides, that method has never worked before. I've got my Swiss Army knife with me, and in no time at all I can strip down the car's braking system, isolate the fault, fix it, and we can be on our way."
"Well", said the Software Engineer, "Before we do anything, I think we should push the car back up the road and see if it happens again."
Answer: Hah!
Sorry man me and you are one of the few people who still apreciate corporate ethics humor...sigh...
be even funnier if a Emergency Technicial smacks them all, and tells them to let the car roll down the mountain but drive in reverse slowly so that the car rolls down the hill slowly..
Question: explanation about management? the increasing popularity of continuous improvements and work process engineering in the past 20 years
Answer: what are u asking....
Question: Is the arch still the newest, "latest and greatest" structural frame improvement? All the current/recent "improvements, Manufactured Trusses, Post-Tension Concrete slabs/walls, Hurricane/Seismic Ties, Elevating the Structures, etc; are structural changes that require additional "fixes" and adjustments.
My Education and Training has taught me that continuous reinforcing will be/is the next actual improvement. The arch was innovated and developed around 5,000 BC, just as engineering was entering the construction industry.
Thanks for the answer, Terence;
I work with dual-tributary frames, so, no, I do not think the inflatable structure, because of the single-tributary resistance, is a continously reinforced structure. There are seams that are sewn, but the seams sewing are not interconnected. A baseball's skin-seam is continuous, so the baseball, with multi-layered structural tributaries, is not only a continuously reinforced structure, but also a multiple tributary structure.
The closest dual-tributary framed structure I can think of is the trampoline, before I came up with Continuous Connector-Reinforcing Structural Strap-Nets and Extensions.
To me, the beginning, miffle, and end of a structure is assemblage, assemblage, assemblage!!
A continuous (single) load-path structure frame is a single load-path frame in wood, steel, masonry, plastics, concrete, vinyl, whatever!!
It is the seams and antersections of buildings and structures that fail first in high winds, seismic shaking, heavy collisions, because the materials are fine!! Not arguing anyone who says their wall, floor, ceiling, roof, are stronger than a hurricane. I agree!! The individual materials and single side components always survive the hurricane winds, until the seams fail and the roof flies off or falls in, causing the components to break apart!!
Solve the seams, you have a hurricane proof structure frame!! Continuous reinforcing solves the seams, the walls and materials are already strong enough, walla!!, there is your hurricane proof building/structure!!
Answer: Interesting question. Many civil engineers today will tell you that innovations of the modern age are all at the materials level. From the lime cements that came into use around 3000 BC to today's carbon fiber composites, Even trees are being genetically engineered to produce better building materials.
To me, part of the "limit" on innovation comes from your definition of structure. When you consider only static structures, they are shaped by a relatively small set of classic physical laws. When you expand the definition to motile or mutable structures, the game changes significantly.
For example, would you class the inflatable structure as a form of "continuous reinforcement"?
Question: ‘Guidelines of BOSCH purchasing can be used as vendor rating parameter’ Do you agree with the statement? ? MICO- Bosch is the subsidiary of one of the world’s largest private industrial company Bosch Germany. It is the largest manufacturer of diesel fuel injection equipment. The company operates in three major segments. They are automotive technology, consumer goods and building technology and industrial technology. Bosch uses Indian office as an outsourcing destination for diesel fuel injection equipment and pumps. Therefore it has to meet the international standards set for engineering products in different countries. To ensure the adherence to international standards company should have best procurement system in place.
Purchasing
Mico Bosch purchasing department procures the materials from world class suppliers who can supply the goods at best prices. To obtain the required quality and efficiency Bosch always looks for the long term relationship with their suppliers. Major products procured by the Bosch India are steels, castings, forgings, turned and machined parts, sintered components, fasteners, springs, bearings, assemblies, sub-assemblies, packing materials, logistic services and capital goods.
Bosch worldwide is driven by a unique philosophy of BeQik. This represents Bosch Group's commitment towards Best Quality, Innovation, Customer Satisfaction and Continuous Improvement
Procuring the world class product at an affordable price is a challenge. To accomplish that challenge the company has set the following guidelines.
 Customer Satisfaction
 Quality ( Zero defect)
 Supplier Development (training and development)
 Fairness and Openness
 International Activities
 Systems Network
 Market and Products
 Environmental Responsibility
 Continuous Improvement
 Associate Development
As Bosch India procures large assortments it felt the need of dividing the purchasing deprtment into two divisions. They are corporate logistics and purchase ( CLP) and plant logistics and purchase(PLP). Corporate logistics and purchase division sources raw materials, standard components, trade goods and capital goods. They also ensure proper logistics contracts and customs clearance. The plant purchase department is responsible for plant specific parts, machined components, mechanical subassemblies and capital goods.
Any company that wishes to become supply chain member of Bosch India should fulfill following criteria:
1. All suppliers should be QS 9000 certified manufacturers.
2. The supplier should get A rating from the company. the rating methodology is given below
Audit score % Ranking Meaning
90 to 100 A Full compliance
80 to less than 90 AB Mainly compliant
60 to less than 80 B Conditionally compliant
Less than 60 C Not compliant
Questions:
a. ‘Guidelines of BOSCH purchasing can be used as vendor rating parameter’ Do you agree with the statement? Comment.
b. Discuss the advantages of dividing the purchasing department.
Answer: You are asking for a solution to a case study!!!
Here's my take:
Ratings provided by the company is nothing but a process of vendor evaluation. And so it can very well be used for the purpose of rating a vendor. Vendor rating can be on parameters like price, on time delivery, price variance, product supply, quality control, rejections etc. So I agree with the statement.
By dividing the purchasing department, there has been a clear segregation of roles. The CLP is responsible for the larger contracts, while the PLP can focus on the operational requirements. By segregating the two, Bosch is trying to make sure that the CLP does not get involved in day to day activities, so that they can focus on the more strategic purchases, instead of being bogged down with day to day operational issues.
Question: can someone explain this in plain english?? this is a job description i was offered but i need a better explanation:
Responsibilities:
Inspect incoming material to insure vendor meets all contract specifications.
Catalogue and stock parts from the receiving department

Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
Perform clerical duties related to maintaining stock inventories and stockroom; may operate a computer terminal and/or personal computer
Remove stock and place into pre-kits as preliminary Bills of Material are received
Complete kits as released Bills of Material are received and provide to production
Ensure the proper scheduling of kitting to meet production schedules
Return unused material from kits of closed jobs to stock
Maintain level of inventory by communicating stock and production requirements to the buyer
Support production department to replace shortages, test department to provide needed parts, and Government Property Custodian on reporting matters
ok since we have some smart asses here, in simple terms. i pretty much know what most of it means but a little help would....help. if you have a smart *** answer, than save yourself the satisfaction and dont answer!
Answer: Sorry it is in plain English.
suggest u break down each sentence.
review and consider.
Question: funny or not? There was an engineer, manager and programmer driving down a steep mountain road.
The brakes failed and the car careened down the road out of control.
Half way down the driver managed to stop the car by running it against the embankment narrowing avoiding going over a cliff.
They all got out, shaken by their narrow escape from death, but otherwise unharmed.
The manager said "To fix this problem we need to organize a committee, have meetings, and through a process of continuous improvement, develop a solution."
The engineer said "No that would take too long, and besides that method never worked before. I have my trusty pen knife here and will take apart the brake system, isolate the problem and correct it."
The programmer said "I think you're both wrong! I think we should all push the car back up the hill and see if it happens again."
Answer: HEhahaha....cute.lol
