Question: Is there any job for a Welding Engineer? I am a graduate of 2008 batch Bachlor of Mechanical Engineering Specilization in Welding Technology but still I am wondering to get a dream job of mine which involves Welding or Fabrication can some one help me or give reference where should I apply and get a positive response. Country n area no barrier for me!
Answer: Oil rigging/fields always need engineers with those types of qualifications. Look into living in Alberta, Canada. You should be able to find something there no problem.
Question: Whats a lil more description on Welding Engineer? I know I'll be welding but whats a lil more on the description. and online it doesnt give how much would i get paid without any experience but am certified? I am going to go to tech school.
oh then thats what ima do a technician?
Answer: Most welding engineers I work with do not weld. They know the process but don't weld. They are the ones that give me all the headaches with the ideas they come up with and then I have to make it work as the weldor.
Question: What kind of engineering degree do you need for a welding Job? I work as a welding in a welding shop and I heard they have engineers there. I was wondering what degree do you need to attain a engineering position in the welding field and hiw much do they make?
Answer: To be a welder you don't need a degree, but to be a welding engineer you will need a degree in welding. Yes there is a degree in welding. I work in a Lab with 9 engineers - 4 welding, 1 metallurgy, 2 mechanical, 2 braze/heat treat. It is usually a bachelors degree, I think 2 have theirs masters. Hey if you have the smarts go for it, then you can "boss" the welders around and your eyes will love you for it.
Good luck.
(30 years welding - certified)
Question: which is better computer engineering or welding engineer? please help choose. which should i be i realy like the both of them. and which have the highest starting salary

Answer: Manufacturing Engineer
Question: which branch of engineering does welding come under? is there any branch called welding engineering??
Answer: There are only a few Welding Engineering programs in the US. One of the best is at The Ohio State University and another one is at Ferris State University in Michigan. The welding engineering program is a combination of physics, electrical, metallurgy and mechanical concepts. If you can get accepted, then you are very lucky.
While some programs like mechanical or industrial engineering may touch on welding, they are very brief and do not come anywhere near what would be considered the basics of welding knowledge.
I've seen job offers for students with a BS in Welding Engineering offered 75k to start right out of school. The best offer I've seen for a 4 year degree was 120k to start and they only wanted 5 years of experience. That's not too shabby in my book.

Good luck.
Question: i am a diploma in electronics holder, how i can become a welding inspector? i have completed diploma in electronics and communication engineering, but i am now working as a welding inspector.All the companies prefer the welding inspector from mechanical engineering. now how can i face that kind of companies interview. please anybody tell me the solution?
Answer: Maybe you are talking about a Welding Engineer? Welding inspectors do not need to have a degree.

Answer: Sorry, it doesn't appear your question is related to Special Education. Special Education is the provision of services to kids with disabilities. I understand, it can sometimes be difficult to select a good category for questions.
You might consider resolving this question by selecting my response as the "best answer." In that way, you can prevent others from responding. Then, you can re-ask your question in a different, more appropriate category.
I hope this helps. Good luck with your question.
Question: Can someone give me the ISO 4063 process number for laser welding? I would like to specify a laser weld with filler wire on an engineering drawing and do not want to pay $60 for the full ISO 4063 standard. Can anyone point me to the appropriate process number for laser beam welding or an example of a proper engineering drawing callout for a laser beam weld with filler wire?
Answer: the International Standards Order defines specifics for this welding.
ISO 4063 would describe this particular weld.
ie; seam is to be welded to mil-std 5316.
Question: How to choose a SMAW electrode based on mechanical properties of the steel you're about to weld? Hello,
Any Engineer or welding expert out there? I'm not shure whether you have to make your choice based on yield strength or maximum tensile strength of the steel you need to weld.
Thanks in advance
Answer: Note: If this is a contracted job, or really any sort of commercial job, then you need to be worried about liability!
It should not be the job of the welder to make material selection decisions. This should be the responsibility of an experienced welding engineer. Improper selection of welding consumables can have severe consequences. This is especially true when you're dealing with demanding applications where general-purpose electrodes would not be acceptable.
In plain english- if one of your welds fails and damages something, you can just say you were following the instructions of the engineer, go sue him.
I can only give you some general guidelines. First off, SMAW is mostly an obsolete process. The only application I'd recommend is for welding outdoors in windy, remote locations. Otherwise, GMAW and Gas-shielded FCAW are superior processes in every conceivable way. GMAW should be generally considered for steels under 3/16". However, it CAN be used for unlimited thickness, if one knows how to select the optimal wire diameter, transfer mode, shielding gas, joint design and proper voltage and WFS parameters. Gas-shielded FCAW should be considered for over 3/16" where it generally provides cost, productivity, and weld quality benefits over GMAW.
EDIT: with respect to the poster above me....you should NEVER ask for welding advice from a sales representative!
Question: I need to make a project on the Welding Transformers. Help me to find details about it.? I am a engineering college student. I have to make a welding transformer as a project. Question: health risks with welding galvanized sheet metal? my boyfriend works in a engineering factory where he has to weld galvanized sheet metal and he has asthma and I was wondering what the long term effects of welding this stuff could be has I am abit worried it could be bad has I know some of the short term effects.
Answer: metal fume fever is the most common condition arising from welding galvanised (zinc coated) metal
metal fume fever is a kind of metal poisoning, and it's symptoms are like flu but it tends to goes off by the end of the week, and starts again the next week. Unsure if has long term effects. If it's happening treat it as a warning sign that ventilation should be improved, as decent ventilation will reduce exposure to zinc fumes. which should also reduce exposure to any other gases/fumes used/produced in welding. Problems such as arc flash (like bad sunburn- and can damage eyes) can be avoided by ensuring adequate welding mask, and keeping covered up.

Question: What is a better background for inventing and fabricating machinery? mechanic technician who can weld or bachelors in engineering? Or probably both right? I am a guy who is really into the "hands on" building of machinery, but I want to actually have a role in designing as well. I am really debating on going back to school for engineering or mechanics/welding. I am 34, work full time, and would only be able to go to school part time. I really want to get into a field where I am building, designing, and testing new machinery. HELP!!!
Answer: You really should finish an Mechanical Engineers degree. If you don't do it now, you'll just wish you had in 5 years and by then you'd likely be done. All of the things you describe will require an engineering degree.
Oh, BTW, ME's can make about 2-3X what a welder does.

Question: what is the scope of specialist engineer in mechanical engineering & how much earn in this field jobs ? like crane operator , welding operator , piping specialist after graduation in mechanical engineering
Answer: These are engineering jobs, but not done by an engineer.
They would normally be termed skilled operators.
Question: Should I quit college to become a welder? I am at a 4 year university majoring in electrical engineering. The classes are hard and the teachers are ***holes. That doesn't really bother me, I know that I can make it if I keep going even if I fail a few classes. I am not really sure I want to be an engineer. I always had a lot of fun welding, and to me even welding school or commercial diving would be fun.
Answer: if you strongly believe that you could secure a job faster if you are a welder or commercial truck driver, then by all means, take the necessary course. but if the opportunity comes again, go back to school and finish your engineering degree. you never know when it would come in handy in the future. good luck.
Question: AWS (American Welding Society) Job help? I'm decide to join certified course on welding AWS (American Welding Society)after completed engineering and i have barely 1 year of experience and its not in welding.Is it easy for me to get a job after complete this course
Answer: Completion of an AWS course is a pre-requisite for many employers, but you will have to pass both written and prctical exams at most facitlites. Ease of job placement will depend on location, projects available, pool of experienced welders in the area and your testing and abilities.
Question: What are the easiest kinds of small engine to build? What are the easiest kinds of engine to build? I want to start building engines, because I want to be an engineer. Where should I start, and how expensive will each be? I don't have any specialist tools (welding equipment etc) and I have no real experience beyond a little we did in physics at school. I can order stuff online :)
Sorry, I should have been clearer. I'd like a few ideas, so I don't do one and then have nothing else. Thanks :)
@ʞɔıɯ: Do you have a link?
Answer: Try a sterling engine to start with, its not an internal combustion engine but still pretty cool. There are kits online for hundreds of dollars but you can make one out of parts around your house for only a few bucks.
This link has instructions and a template along with links to videos of working examples.

Question: Can someone please give me list of companies who are in need of car engineers.? I'm a British person aged 16 who lives in England who is going to college for three years to learn about car engineering and welding metal parts together; is anyone in America looking for engineers to hire. I've heard about the demand of electricians and plumbers in Canada. Does America have the same the sort of demand for engineers.
I appreciate any help anyone can give me.
Answer: ummm are you aware of the current economy? our car makers just enrolled in welfare.
Question: What is the best welder for trailer building.? I am going to build a trailer outside under the carport. I have a 235 AC stick welder. I am building a 6' 6" by 12' trailer. What would be the best welder or is the one I go more then enough? I read that MIG welders are more for indoors due to the wind blowing can mess the gas welding up? I using engineered utility trailer blue prints to build off of.
Answer: the welder you have is great. i use mine all the time. it will do the job,if you are a good stick welder. vertical welds are really tricky with stick welders and you will be making alot of them when building a trailer. if you have access to a mig it is ideal for this job. an experienced welder knows how to block the wind when mig welding outside. it really depends on your skill level. i myself have been an aws certified welder for 14 years and i prefer the mig.
Question: i have good cualefiction mechanical job experiece10 years more boiler maker welding and piping work why no job? iam stay in water mech engineering sdn bhd company end my visa cano t reonu i will go back bangladesh so i have neet one job so iam requeast to yahoo please give me one job over see country thank very much

Question: how to check weld integrity engineering? steel is supplied in coil form and the coils are welded together using a but welding machine. What is a none destructive and detructive test which can be carried out to check the integrity of the weld? and a little description of each would be great.
thanks
x
Answer: There will be some surface irregularity at the joint,either swelling or waisting so really you are restricted to radiography or magnetic testing.You need to have the magnetic flux in the plane and long direction of the strip so that any any weld cracks or imperfections will have N/S poles across the defect,you then spray with a suspension of fine magnetite powder in ,say,paraffin,it's common to combine a fluorescent dye to the spray so that cracks light up with UV light.Now whether you use permanent magnets or electromagnets to produce the field in the strip will depend on the size of the operation.You could dabble with this system offline to see how it goes and look into longitudinal and transverse cracks.
Question: Find dimensions to make it weight as little as possible? Your iron works has contracted to design and build a 500 ft^3, square-based, open-top, rectangular steel holding tank for a paper company. The tank is to be made by welding thin stainless steel plates together along their edges. As the production engineer, your job is to find dimensions for the base and height that will make the tank weigh a little as possible. What dimensions do you tell the shop to use?
Answer: a^2 h = 500 a is the side of the square and h is the height
w = a^2 + 4 a h
w = a^2 + 4 a (500 /a^2) = a^2 + 2000*a^-1
dw/da = 2a -2000a^(-2) = 0
2a = 2000/a^2
2a^3 = 2000
a^3=1000
a=10 ft
h=5 ft
Question: Best ethernet cable to run across Arc Welding & Metal-Stamping shop? Both my engineers (on one side of the shop) and my accountants (on the other side) use 10BaseT (twisted-pair Ethernet)...will Shielded Twisted-Pair (FTP or ScTP) block the potent amounts of EMI and RFI?
Answer: 10baseT is an ethernet protocol, an older one that has been mostly replaced by 100baseT and 1000baseT which run at 10 times and 100 times 10baseT.
Cat5 is ordinary ethernet cable for 10baseT. You probably want to use a higher grade cable like Cat6e for the faster speeds. There may be shielded variants, I'd have to check. But FTP is not rated for ethernet as far as I know.
Cat6e will still run 10baseT, so if you get too much interference for the higher speeds, you can fall back to the slower speed.

Question: what engineer should i be? hi i am 15 and thinking of a career in engineering after high school. i love to draw and i am decent at math, i also love science. i have done tests and stuff and they say that i have a mathematical/logical kind of mind and also last year i took a course called technology where i had to do MIG welding and the first time i did it i welded a perfect line and my teacher was amazed and said i have an artistic mind :). also in science i really like biology, and i like chemistry and physics as well but i dont like it when i cant understand some of the mathematical concepts and that also applies to math. and also i find business and financial calculations etc(ex. calculating cost efficiency) interesting. please help me decide what kind of engineer i should be. thanks
also another thing i feel im good at is language. i dont know how to explain this very briefly but yeah.. im good at writing essays in english and... well basically a language course or any sort of challenge like this is not as hard for me as it is for many others.
Answer: Well, the sad truth is that u need to be good in math and in the math part of science to do well in engineering. Now, notice how i didn't said to be a good engineer u need to be good math and stuff however a mathematical/logical kind of mind like u said. Now u might say what the hell are u talking about. In engineering the classes u take all involve math and science( by science i mean math related science cuz the science u learnd in high school is lot of BS cuz the majority of the stuff u learn is the definitions) which means u need to be good in it to get good grades and then to get a good job. But in the real world a lot engineering fields u use computers for analysis, drawing, modeling. Whichs means u need to UNDERSTAND the mathematical concepts , not know it becuz like i said the pc doesn't all.
That being said u like art then the engineering field for u should be mechanical, civil, and architecture. The rest involves a lot more math and a lot less art.
But like i said math and science the back bone in engineering. All of the engineering projects u see, engines, bridges, dams, airplane, etc are all design using mathematical formulas and engineering concepts. So next time u look at something i mentioned look at it. B/C the way those projects are physically shaped is for a reason. For example, which shape of a wing of a plane produce less air drag or how wide a channel should be in order to produce less corrosion etc.
So my suggestion is to work on ur math but dont lose that artistic mind of yours.
BTW when i was ur age i wanted to be a engineer (which im now a senior engineering student) too b/c i too like to draw but as u go to college you'll see that drawing has to do nothing with engineering however an artisitic mind is always a plus. You'll know wat i mean if to go to college and study engineering.
A this is to Raymond W mister know it all, "civil is boring" i beg to differ. EE is by far the borest. circuits, mircoprocessors, magneticfields are u joking those stuff are just math crazy pointless stuff and lab theory/experiments that well never be use in other 30 years when it becomes a lot cheaper to use. I rather build a bridge, building, ur transportation system, ur water supply system any day of the week. Btw im not saying EE is easy i know is not but im just saying its boring and doesnt affect the society directy like civils do. In terms of academics and R&D EE is not that boring but in terms of doing it for a job in the industry it is.
