Question: Train engineer classes? OK... Im a junior in high school and im interested in working on the railroad driving trains. I recently got a letter from the school about vo-tech classes at our community college for machining operations. The classesthat you can take are prints, layouts and measurements, math for occupational technology:Intro to manufacturing, lathe operations and milling operations. After completing theese classes I would recieve a Certificate of Competency in Machining Operations. Are anything of theese classes good to take to prepare to be a train engineer? I don't want to waste my time and not need the classes. Any other suggestions on how to become a engineer? Thanks for any answers

Question: How can a newly recruited mechanical engineer build a successful career? I'm a graduate with a bachelors in mechanical engineering and iv been placed in a firm that has largely to do with foundry work. I've never had manufacturing work experience prior to this so If there's anyone out there who's had experience in the manufacturing work or in the foundry line, I'd appreciate you let me know what to watch out for. I'll be joining as what any raw graduate would, a trainee. the training period, ending which i would want to take up a posting as shop floor supervisor.
Answer: When I was going to school as a Mechanical eng I found myself being placed in a gray iron foundry with General Motors in a coop program. I was placed there for 5 six week periods and at the time my vision of an engineer was not one that was going to work in the conditions that were present with all of the heat, fire, dirt, etc. I made a mistake that I learned from. I told the head of my department that the foundry was not a place that I intended to work when I graduated from school. The position was to be a engineer for the foundry that would put together new projects and see to the installation of them as time went by. And to support production.
He reassigned me and I was an engineer in Plant engineering. Neither position was a production job. There are many ways an engineer can contribute and one of them is to be a shop floor supervisor. This takes special skills in dealing with people and can be a rough and tumble route to take in advancement. I do not think I would have done well in that route. I also had some experience as a skilled trades supervisor for a brief period and know that I am more suited to analyzing and making things work.
After leaving the foundry, I became the oven and furnace engineer for the facility that I was working at. No dirt, heat, etc there, huh. I did well but the relationship with the department head had been somewhat poisoned and it became clear that things would never be to my advantage for advancement.
After 16 years I left and went with another large corporation and did well advancing 3 levels and being paid well as a furnace engineer.
I think the most important thing is to set short and long term goals for yourself and mark your progress toward these goals whatever they might be. Know your strengths and limitations. And remember there is a big world out there. Do not beat your head against a past mistake, and make sure that you work for someone that appreciates what you are doing.
PS I never turned down a request from a supervisor ever again.
Question: what does the job of a manufacturing engineer entail and what kind of products are designed by them?
Answer: Great question.
Automotive industry.

http://www.discoverengineering.org/
Manufacturing means making things. Manufacturing engineers direct and coordinate the processes for making things - from the beginning to the end. As businesses try to make products better and at less cost, it turns to manufacturing engineers to find out how. Manufacturing engineers work with all aspects of manufacturing from production control to materials handling to automation. The assembly line is the domain of the manufacturing engineer. Machine vision and robotics are some of the more advanced technologies in the manufacturing engineers toolkit.
The beginning of the manufacturing process often involves creating prototypes or models of the desired object. In the past, these prototypes were created from wood or clay (kind of like sculpting). Today rapid prototyping is the state of the art. There are a number of types of rapid prototyping systems currently available, but one of the coolest is called stereolithography. A computer-controlled laser shoots through a pool of liquid plastic and forms a solid plastic part which is literally pulled out of the liquid. Manufacturing engineers use rapid prototyping to reduce time to market for something new as well as reducing production cost.
Question: can a MANUFACTURING engineer appear interview for a post of MECHANICAL ENGINEERING?
Answer: of course, many engineers are also taxi drivers and people with highschool doing engineering jobs. how good fit they are for the job can be debated.
Question: Can student from BEng in manufacturing engineering courses become hvac engineer? If can, state ur proof. Thx..? please state why can and can't be HVAC engineer. Like in terms of lack of certain important subject modules in manufacturing engimeering to become hvac engineer.
Answer: Colloquially, there are 4 types of "engineers":
1. Railway diesel locomotive operators.
2. Microsoft or CompTIA certified computer experts.
3. B.Eng and B.ASc university graduates that pass the professional exam.
4. "Stationary" engineers - gradates from a college level HVAC program + journeyman papers.
Legally, #3 is, in many countries, the only legal use of the term "engineer".
If you're #3, and wish to do #4, you may, but you will probably need to take a few practical courses or work, supervised, for a few years, or both.
Of course, anyone can become a stationary engineer. A professional engineer will have fewer make-up courses to take than an accountant, but anything is possible.
Question: what is a manufacturing engineer and what do they do?
Answer: first of all JB ur an idiot
second of all manufacturing engineer is also called industrial engineer and thats what im currently going to school for
what the manfacturing engineer is the head of the factory ur the guy that coordinates all the information between the mechanical engineers and the manfacturing process. ur not the guy who designs or does all the math
ur the guy who tests, oversees, organizes the entire manfacturing process
plus there is going to be a 20% increase for manfacturing engineers in the next few years plus they pay like 70,000 a year :P
if u want to do this for a living the degree is called industrial technolgy i highly recommend it plus to calc :P thats the best part
Question: can a manufacturing engineer be considered to be in the field of civil engineering? and can you tell me why :)
Answer: No. A civil engineer is a person who practices civil engineering, one of the many professions of engineering. Originally, a civil engineer worked on public works projects and was contrasted with the military engineer, who worked on armaments and defenses. Over time, various branches of engineering have become recognized as distinct from civil engineering, including chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and manufacturing engineering

Question: Which job is better? Aircraft Manufacturing Engineer (Avionics) or Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Avionics)? Just would like to ask if what specialization can help you land a better job. Is it Aircraft Manufacturing Engineer (Avionics) or Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (Avionics)?
Answer: It all depends what you like to do. Designing, modifying ,or troubleshooting. Then it boils down to pay. I do the mechanics side of it and i enjoy troubleshooting the systems. It`s something different everyday.
Question: what do you understand by a word'customer' as a manufacturing engineer?
Answer: As an engineer working for a company, the 'customer' is my employer, I make products for them.
Question: What are the different fields a mechanical engineer can work? for example i do not want to be sitting and designing and drafting i want to be in the plant or part of manufacturing like actually make it.
What are the different parts in mechanical engineering? Like i said i do not want to actually design it or is MANUFACTURING engineer more better for me?
Answer: Well that wouldn't be in the engineering field. Engineering is more designing because I've been studying engineering for about a year, looking to see if mechanical engineering and is about making or designing. The truth is, it's either about both jobs or it's just about designing, depending on where you work. But you could do either job. To tell the truth, it really depends on where you work.

Question: Manufacturing Engineer Technician? i want to know more about this. i think this is the major i want to major in but i have a few questions. like what do u do? is it easy to find a job? does it pay atleast $20 per hour? my benefits is im very strong and good at math and very creative. weakness is that im very bad a science. any inf on this? thanks.
Answer: Good for you! Go fo it! Good job security, however, even though the semiconductor industry is not as strong as we wanted to, but if you are a technician you can pretty much find a job anywhere when it comes to repair and/or electronics. I recommend you go for it. The pay is excellent. Here in California, the average technician starts at $35-$45 or depending on work experience as well.
This is taken from Labor Department:
Engineering technicians use the principles and theories of science, engineering, and mathematics to solve technical problems in research and development, manufacturing, sales, construction, inspection, and maintenance. Their work is more narrowly focused and application-oriented than that of scientists and engineers. Many engineering technicians assist engineers and scientists, especially in research and development. Others work in quality control, inspecting products and processes, conducting tests, or collecting data. In manufacturing, they may assist in product design, development, or production. Although many workers who repair or maintain various types of electrical, electronic, or mechanical equipment are called technicians, these workers are covered in the Handbook section on installation, maintenance, and repair occupations.
I work in the semiconductor industry and the pay is good, time and half, vacations/sick time paid, even for the operators.
Question: can u find any free exsamples resume of manufacturing engineer?
Answer: yes.
i'm not a manufacturing engineer, however, i did stay at a holiday inn express last night!
Question: how to be a good manufacturing engineer?
Answer: Get to know the manufacturing personnel, especially the equipment operators. They will know far more about how the manufacturing process actually works than anyone else. Getting to know the mechanics is also a good idea.
Many engineers, especially insecure ones, act like they think they are God. Do not do this. Admit what you don't know, and as the people realize that you want to help they will start giving you the information you need.
I was working on a paint filling line, and got it from 25 gallon cans per minute to over 70.
Responding to an operator's allegation that I just wanted to make the company more money, I responded that they could run at the same speed with a lot less mess, faster with the same mess, or somewhere in between. That was between them and their boss. My job was to give them the options.
Question: what is machanical manufacturing engineer?

Question: Is Miami good for manufacturing engineers? I am an entry level engineer.....please let me know about job fields.
Answer: no
Question: When did the word "Environmental" become #2 behind safety ahead of profit and common sense in Manufacturing??? I agree - everyone needs to do their part for the environment and large companies need a hand in finding the importance of being responsible since they tend to not do it on their own.
My question revolves around the fact that I work as a Manufacturing Engineer and am finding it consistantly harder to improve any processes because everything has to be OK'd by Safety and Environmental people who know nothing about Manufacturing and Assembly Processes. Just want to hear peoples viewpoint on how this effects their lives too.
Answer: It is the business driver of profit that prompts the corporate need for safety and eco-friendly. Both items, to an extent, affects the cost of goods and services a business provides.
Safety - although sometimes marginal, the known quantity of prevention is a better position than the unknowns of litigation, even if the company can hire the super-expensive lawyers.
Environmental - sort of the same as safety, but here, there's a bit more market reputation at stake. The benefits are leaner and meaner processes to reduce overhead costs, but the market perception can improve product standing and therefore pricing and sales.
As for the perceived ineptitude of these oversight groups (I assume it's the internal groups), did you think your real job was to make product? No, you define the process for others to follow/operate. Your job is to create, demonstrate and interpret the process to the business side of the company so they can understand the benefits of your work. You cannot just assume they know or will leave you alone.
You need to look at your job as constantly training new hires into the business (and I'm not just referring to the technical new hires), so that even the administrative people, like accounting and human resources, can know enough to look for the paticular hooks that will make the company MORE profitable, not just profitable. A better product may come from better accounting (material sourcing, tax breaks, supplier negotiations, etc.) or better personnel (newer skills, different skills, better industry hires, etc.), but those depts cannot serve the company well if they don't know what to look for. They can muddle through with their general principles, but you can help them find the needles in the haystack by your intimate knowledge of your company's core business.
I say take the time to get things through your red tape, so that if you can get it through their "thick heads", they can actually help get it through their superior's "thicker heads".
Good luck!
Question: how do i justify an engineering assistant - am chief engineer for a manufacturing company?
Answer: It's your throughput. If you've got more work than you can handle, then it's cheaper to get an engineering assistant. That part's easy. The hard part is what you can handle. If you're not willing to work your weekends and evenings, and your employer accepts this, then you can easily demonstrate that the project you are working on will bring x dollars of savings/revenue to the company, and that hiring an engineering assistant to get it delivered on time will return the company y. At this point, it's reason. But, if you've been willing to work harder without the compensation, then why should they start paying an engineering assistant when they've gotten that work out of you for free?
Well, whatever the situation, good luck!
Question: What kind of qualifications do you need to engineer/manufacture cosmetics and skin care? The closest I was thinking would be a chemical engineering degree? I can't seem to find out exactly what qualifications I'd need to be doing that. So far I've just been looking into chemical engineering.
Im in my final year of high school and I take - calculus, statistics, biology, chemistry, and physics.
So technically, I should be able to get into whatever course is required?
Does anyone know where I should be looking? Our schools career advisor couldnt even tell me.
Answer: Hm. Chemical engineering sounds about right, or perhaps chemistry. I would apply to college with one of those as your intended major, and then talk to the career advisors at the college you are attending. They are usually much more informative than high school advisors.
That sounds like a very interesting field of work to enter! Best of luck to you!
Question: Does anyone know about a University in Germany that offers Manufacturing course? Please tell me ;-) Manufacturing engineering!
Answer: You need to check for ''Verfahrenstechnik'' a lot of German Universities offer the suject between the real good ones Munich Karlsruhe and Stuttgart.
Question: Is it true that we have a shortage of engineers because we have no manufacturing? A guy at work said that we don't have any engineers because we have no manufacturing. He said that we many assemble things here but there's no need for an engineer to do that. He said that's why less people are majoring in science or engineering. They know they'll be unemployeed.
Answer: This question depends entirely on where it is you are asking from. Also, manufacturing or assembling things 'here' has no bearing on engineers because doing this neither requires more or less engineers. For example, in the US we produce so few engineers because we either outsource or ship a lot of engineers here which makes for a lot of competition and lower wages, and we'd rather be the boss than the worker anyway.
Question: Can you give me a problem in production in your company? preferably a manufacturing company? I decided on finding a problem for my thesis as early as now . . I'm an upcoming freshmen at a university at Manufacturing Engineering Management . . I'm just asking what problems in production that your company is dealing with . .thanks
Answer: Reliable vendors, new product failure. Usually when companies upgrade in production machines to newer versions, problems usually happen.
Question: What do Industrial, Manufacturing, etc. engineers do?!?!? I am applying to some colleges and I am thinking about being an engineer.....I am excellent at math and want to apply it to a career.....but i really do not know a lot about engineering what do different types of engineers actually do?????????
Answer: Manufacturing Engineers normally work in factories, modifying product lines and such.
Industrial engineers might do the same sort of thing but not in a factory setting; they might be on a customer specific project. Like designing crane systems that fit in a preexisting building.
System Engineers, would work on a project that would involve very complex systems. Like build any sort of quality test or endurance testing machines that uses electric and hydraulic actuators, and then designs the computer system behind it that could document and control that machine.
Civil Engineers design structures Buildings, foundations bridges, and they require a license "On top" of a degree.
All of theses "things" a sort of a mix between Electrical and Mech~ Engineers, which are the most common engineering degrees.
Question: What does 'MHR' mean in the context of Manufacturing? I want to apply to a job vacancy and they mentioned, as one of the main activities:
"-Compile/update/maintain MHRs
-Include details in MHR documents"
I have some experience on Manufacture engineering but I had never heard the term.
Answer: The only thing I can think of is Manhours (as in Man Hours), which is defined as n industrial unit of production equal to the work one person can produce in an hour.
