Question: iam working in oman as site engineer-mech.engineer(HVAC&PLUMBING). I'd like to start company in chennai? I would like to start own company in chennai or surrounding, what is the procedure. If I would like to have join with existing company whom should i contact and how?
Answer: Visit Govt of Tamilnadu industry dept at Guindy. you consult the govt department people there and you can get an idea
Question: What are some common certifications HVAC Engineers hold? I'm interested in becoming an HVAC engineer within the consulting field.
Answer: jutland_452: I'm an engineering manager. Registration as a registered professional mechanical engineer adds to your credibility and professional stature; go the NCEES - National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying site at the link below to find the requirements for your state. Achieving certification(s) by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) will expand your knowledge base and professional standing, see the second link below.
Question: Should I become a MechE specializing in HVAC, or a civil engineer? Which one gets more pay/demand? I live in a large city.
Answer: If you ask questions like this then you would not make a good engineer. It takes devotion to make a good one.
Question: What classes should I take to become an HVAC Engineer? I have an undergrad M.E. degree but cannot really get a job. I want to work in HVAC or do something with energy. No masters programs in my state really deal with this field directly. I am considering just taking a few classes. Should I look into some trade school or university courses? Would any masters programs be good for this field?
Answer: As Guru has suggested, you need to assess what you already know about HVAC. To do this, find the website of a trade school that teaches HVAC and from that site, find the details of the course that they teach. Go through the topics listed and decide how much you know. You will probably find that you do not know much of the practical stuff but you will know a lot about the calculations.
Question: Good job positions in HVAC engineering? I'm an HVAC engineer, and was thinking about a career change. Can you think of a good career that would be an easy transition? Not as a design engineer, and I can only work in an AE environment, as that is my major.
Answer: Define design engineer.
If you are looking to stay in the field due to your invested time and experience, you might go into consulting or project management.
When i say consulting, i mean everything around design engineering but design itself. There is always need for budgeting expertise, sales engineering, inspectors, design strategy advising, and overall technical advisory.
As for project management, when some guy designs something, it's worthless unless someone builds it. So to have expertise in interpreting the chicken scratch some so-called design engineer cooked up is worth lots to the customer.
The good thing about this type of change is that you may already interface with these firms as part of your daily work, so if you have a good working relationship with any of them, you have a better chance they will hire you or even make a position for you.
Good luck!

Question: what colleges or unis teach HVAC engineering in the UK? please please help me find a college or course that teaches this its like the worlds most hardest courses to find.
i really need to no about it i have till sept to decide what career to go for coz i need to apply for uni but i cant find it anywhere. :(
Answer: Maria, the City and Guilds Institute of London aka C&G, is the awarding body for a number of HVAC courses. If you visit the C&G website, you can use their search engine to find the nearest FE college that teaches the course that you select. You need to be careful when selecting a college because some of them claim to offer HVAC courses but in fact they teach nothing but heating. As the UK becomes warmer, there will be a growing need for air-conditioning mechanics --- make sure you learn the AC as well as the HV.

Question: Salary wise, what is the best field to go into for a mechanical engineer? I'm finishing up my degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Toledo. I need to pick my technical electives, which are the classes that will kind of guide me to what I will do for my career. Im very interested in Fluids and Thermodynamics. I was thinking I could do Power Generation, such as working in a power plant. I'm interested in Turbomachinery, thermal science, fluid dynamics, gas dynamics, etc. I am also considering HVAC. I hear the market is doing well in the southern states for that.
What do you guys feel about any of these areas? Anybody know what kind of money engineers make in these kind of fields? If there are any other fields that are doing well and make great money, let me know. thanks
Answer: I have a degree in Finance and Engineering, and I work as a Mechanical Engineering Manager. Pay is decent at a smaller company, but if you are able to get in as an engineer at a large company you will be making 6 figures in no time.
As for coursework, make sure to take at least one class in CAD to make sure you know at least one 3D Design program (Inventor, Solidworks, Pro/E, etc.) You also want to diversify and add a class in mechanical design or manufacturing. If you are interested in getting into a power plant take a look at some Industrial Engineering courses. Remeber whatever you end up doing there will be design and manufacturing involved, so the more you know the better.
The areas you have chosen are good for your area, there will always be those type of jobs around. If you have all fluid and thermo classes you will be very good in that but not very marketable and you will not have the opportunities that someone with a more diverse background will have.
Take a look at job postings on careerbuilder, monster, or hotjobs and read the descriptions (some are quite detailed). Find a job or two that you would like and try to plan around that. Even though you won't be working in those exact jobs it will give you ideas that you may not have thought of. Believe me there are many people that wish they could go back to college and take one or two classes that are holding their careers back.
Question: What is the best Hvac career to get into? Controls? Project Engineer? Technician?
What do you have to do to become one and how well does it pay?
Answer: you can go to a community college and get a one year certificate in HVAC and then apply as an entry level technician as an apprentice to get your hvac liscense which takes 4-5 yrs..with that experience you can work in a building for a major industry...they make great money and the work isnt as hard as it will be when you are just a technician..but you have to be a technician/installer first to get the experience for your big gig resume..the work usually only last during the warm months but you can get another job in the winter and they will call you back when the work picks up again
Question: What do most Engineering firms think of specialized (HVAC) Engineering degrees? I am interested in a Bachelors degree that specializes in my field of interest which is HVAC, and would give me more knowledge on that subject than a big ten school. The downfall is that because it is so specialized you cant get a PE license with it. Are employers looking for General PE's w/stamp or Specialized Engineers w/out?
What do most Engineering firms think of specialized (HVAC) Engineering degrees?
I am interested in a Bachelors degree that specializes in my field of interest which is HVAC, and would give me more knowledge on that subject than a big ten school. The downfall is that because it is so specialized you cant get a PE license with it. Are employers looking for General PE's w/stamp or Specialized Engineers w/out?
Please note: I am interested in a BS in Engineering (not contractor work), the school which specializes in HVAC interests me more than the school which teaches broad spectrum Mechanical Engineering
Answer: Unless you are designing an HVAC system you probably wont need your license.
HVAC would fit in with Mechanical Engineering. I'm not too sure what schools support this focus, but I bet a school where tourism is strong and the temperature is very hot or cold would definitely have more weighted classes in HVAC.
If you just want to work on HVAC systems like installing and maintaining them, I'm sure you don't need a license, more then likely the company license will cover your liability. A degree in Mechanical Engineering will definitely make you more valuable then just a HVAC certification and you should pursue a degree in this field.
If you want to design HVAC systems you will need to go to school, gain work experience and depending on your degree, you will have to wait before being able to take the PE exam. 5 yrs for B.S., 2-3 yrs for M.S. and 0-1 yrs for PhD. You are much more valuable to an employer if you are a PE but if they are just looking for someone to do HVAC work you probably won't need it.
Question: Who are some famous/notable HVAC engineers? they can be dead or alive. just names would be fine. links on additional information would be appreciated :) .... thanks.
Answer: Carrier and Lennox come to mind.
Question: What is the best programming language for mechanical engineer? i need to learn a computer programming language to make the software for HVAC system and other application about heat load calculation duct design becouse all thes softwares are expensive and other thing i need this language easy to learn and fast to undersand it.. thank you for help me
Answer: MATLAB is powerful and simple to learn, but often too slow for intensive calculations.
FORTRAN is often joked about for being outdated but its use is pretty widespread in many complex engineering applications. I would recommend this over C or C++. I think it is a little easier to pick up (although C++ was my first language so maybe that was why it took a little longer for me to use proficiently) and very powerful.

Question: Which job will be indemand if global warming will continue to worse Is it Aircon engineers ? HVAC engineers stands for (Heating Ventilating Airconditioning(
Answer: I am not sure that Air Conditioning will be the industry that will be most necessary for the issue of global warming. The real implications of this problem are not that people are going to
have weather that is unbearable hot. Thing like climate change (wetter/dryer weather for different regions), sea level change, animal population change and many other issues that are not related to warming only. Global warming is only changing the weather by a few degrees but those few degrees change many of our natural systems.
Now after I have said all that I think the industries that will really thrive are energy efficient companies companies that have previously been major users/creators of energy, ie. automobile industry, home appliances, and power producing . This means engineers that are creating wind/solar energy more efficiently will be in demand or engineers that can create appliances that use a drastically lower amount of energy than before will be invaluable to companies because high efficiency products will be in high demand.
EDIT: I would like to thank Jim Z on the note that most of the change in temps are the increase of minimum temperatures that occur in the winters. Global warming is causing milder winters which would imply better conditions for everyone but has some unforeseen consequences. Plant habitats are affected drastically by temperature and could change our agricultural systems and forest systems. I am not a forest ecologist so I cannot comment on the exact changes that may occur but there has been much talk on this issue and implications that may ensue.

Question: MBA in HVAC/Mep Engineering? Am an HAVC/ MEP project Engineer in private company. I finished my Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering 3 Years Ago. i need know is there any MBA for MY field or should i go for any other higher graduation.
Answer: For MBA you ned minimum bachelors degree.
You can go for BE / BTech directly to the second year called as lateral entry in some universities.
Question: HVAC-R JOBS can you help? Im a qualified HVAC-R engineer BUT not a lot of experiance i have sent and rung every company around here and no joy i have a great CV but still no joy i have even told them i will work for nothing to get some experiance and still no one wants to know WHY CAN YOU HELP!!!!!!!!!!
who gives yo (stormrider) (ars@h@le) to tell me i myself how to ask a f**kin question come down and i show y how to kick ass t"""sser
Answer: You need to learn how to write. You have to proof read your work and use the 'spell check' option.
If I were to look at what you wrote here, for an interview, I would question your competency. Things like "experience", "i", and "CV" will not make it passed the first round of the hiring process.
Question: Under what circumstances would you use a preheat coil? I am a new engineer to HVAC systems, and most of my projects are in Alaska.
It seems like a mistake to put a coil before filters, since they are so much harder to clean than replacing filters, but why would you have two heating coils next to each other?
Thanks for the help.
Answer: First, the filters must come before the cooling coils. They could come before the preheat coil, but the fin spacing on the preheating coils is wide enough that fouling is seldom a problem unless the dust conditions are extreme. It is difficult to service filters installed between the intake louver and those coils, even if they are flat panel prefilters.
But the flat prefilters can go there with good access on both ends.
Fan rooms employing steam heat for sub- freezing conditions must do the heating in (at least) two distinct and seperate stages with (at least)two independent sets of steam heating coils - a preheat and a reheat. The steam coils will actually freeze if all the heating is attempted in one set of coils. This will occur at part-load, when the ambient temperature is only in the mid 20Fs and the steam control valve is throttled. A vacuum will form in the coil and the condensate cannot drain. For this reason, the control set-up must maintain adequate steam pressure into the first set of coils (and maybe the second set of preheats too depending on the minimum design temperature. ( Ours was only -10F in N.E. Tenn.) The coil selection , condensate trap arrangement and heating control setup is tricky.
Vacuum breakers are employed for this reason and the condensate removal piping has to be carefully designed to allow for gravity drain. The preheat coils must have single row, large diameter, plain vertical tubes. (We had poor results with steam distribution-type coils.)
So the Alaska arrangement could be louver, (prefilter) preheat (second preheat) , main filter, cooling , reheat, fan.
This preheat coil topic is the subject of HVAC engineering design seminars and also of maintenance nightmares if done improperly.

Question: Please settle this, once and for all on AC? Would a competent engineer, HVAC tech or some other qualified person please verify for me .... that the "your system is low on freon" is just a ploy or a simpletons view of a larger problem. I understand that the freon system in any cooling machinery is a closed and sealed one. therefore, it cannot "lose" its freon. if it is losing freon I have been told that there is a leak somewhere in your system ( a larger problem). I would appreciate being straightend out on this, and would like to know what your qualifications are to answer please....thank you very much!!!
Answer: You are correct. Your system should not loose freon unless there is a leak somewhere. Huge systems (grocery stores, etc) which are older will start to loose freon, but only because there is a leak somewhere, and it's cheaper for them to add additional freon than to try and find the leak in the miles of piping. A home AC system has much shorter lines, and any loss of freon should be easy to find - and fix. Adding freon is a lazy service-persons way of temporarily fixing the complaint, (and insuring his future business). If it was a natural gas leak, would he have the same attitude? Find the leak and repair it.

Question: What is a HVAC systems ? I'm about to go on a date with a girl who is an engineer at a company that sells hvac systems and services. I'd like to sound like I know what she does. thanks!
Answer: *HVAC (pronounced either "H-V-A-C" or, occasionally, "H-VAK") is an initialism/acronym that stands for "heating, ventilating, and air conditioning". This is sometimes referred to as climate control and is particularly important in the design of medium to large industrial and office buildings such as sky scrapers and in marine environments where humidity and temperature must all be closely regulated whilst maintaining safe and healthy conditions within. In certain regions (e.g., UK) the term "Building Services" is also used, but may also include plumbing and electrical systems. Refrigeration is sometimes added to the field's abbreviation as HVAC&R or HVACR.
The HVAC industry is huge, worldwide, with career opportunities ranging from operation and maintenance, to system design and construction, to equipment manufacturing and sales, and to education and research. Annual sales are in the US$100's of billions. There are also hundreds of related local, national, and international professional, technical, trade, and labor organizations such as ASHRAE, SMACNA, ACCA, and AMCA, to name just a few, that support the industry and encourage high standards and achievement.
The three HVAC functions, heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning, are closely interrelated. All seek to provide thermal comfort, acceptable indoor air quality, and reasonable installation, operation, and maintenance costs. HVAC systems can provide ventilation, reduce infiltration, and maintain pressure relationships between spaces. How air is delivered to, and removed from spaces is known as room air distribution.
*In modern buildings the design, installation, and control systems of these functions are integrated into one or more HVAC systems. For very small buildings, contractors normally "size" and select HVAC systems and equipment. For larger buildings where required by law, "building services" designers and engineers, such as mechanical, architectural, or building services engineers analyze, design, and specify the HVAC systems, and specialty mechanical contractors build and commission them. In all buildings, building permits for, and code-compliance inspections of the installations are the norm.

Question: I am Mechanical Engineer and My whole exp in Pharma plant for Validation, Documentation which SAP course i do? My Whole exp arround 5 year in Pharma and API unit and i also do HVAC project and PW system project
I want to change my root and goes to SAP course which is beter for me
Answer: Helo. SAP is well n gud. No doubt. But 2 settle in that field it takes lot of patience, time. Because SAP u have to do lot of hardwork . But i think that is new way for u. so it takes much time to adjust or to set. so its better to continue in u rfield itself rather than trying a new way. As ur branch is evergreen u can flourish in that way. u can go for States for Ms or any PG for better way.Think twice before u act.so don t loose ur present way, subject..etc.
ok

Question: How much does an HVAC for highschools cost? its for a school engineering project so we dont want to call anyone professional for the info
Answer: 1] Cost will depend on how much of the HS you want this unit to do and how big the school, as well as climate.
2] Talk to the maintenance department to find out the ratings on the unit you have, in terms of how many thousand BTU/Hr heating and cooling, as well as air flow [CFM, cubic feet per minute]. IF not, a rough estimate of building size can do in place of actual ratings.
3] The school maintenance folks may be able to put you in touch with someone who can tell what the existing unit cost.
4] However, if you call a local vendor, and make very clear that you want help with a school project, but are not going to be buying anything, they may be willing to come up with a 'budget quote', which is a relatively good estimate of cost.
How close an estimate do you need ? Factor of 2 would be easy. +/- 10% would take a lot of work.
Also, would you want the equipment price, or the installed cost ?
5] Trane is one big manufacturer; others are not coming to mind right now.
Question: what do mechanical engineers do in HVAC?
Answer: Design of systems:
Size of coil, size of fan, ASHRAE requirements for airflow, determination of heat loading (people, computers, equipment, solar gain, losses due to leakage, radiative losses), selection of refrigerant types, testing and balancing airflows.
