Question: How to prepare for Highway 3D CAD technician interview? I have got a interview call for the post of Highway 3D CAD technician next week. How do i prepare for the interview? Please help me...
But what the technical part? What sort of questions will be put forth for the highway 3D cad designer?
Answer: I recommend looking online and looking up possible interview questions: A lot of common questions are:
tell me about yourself (this is important in an interview)
why should I hire you
why did you leave ur last job
what is your greatest/weakest strength
practice answering questions. make sure you dress professional for the interview. And remember when they ask you if you have any questions... always have a question.
After the interview and you go home write a thank you letter. a few days later call ask them how the hiring process is going and thank them again for taking the time to interview you. say you hope to hear from them soon.
good luck
Question: Is CAD technician a good job ? Do or can CAD technicians often become Engineers ? Is CAD technician a good job ? Do or can CAD technicians often become Engineers ?
Working Retail ATM for comparison.
Answer: By definition of today's standards, an efficient CAD person is probably more of an engineer than those of the old school without CAD...!
While both the old and the new person will have the required knowledge, the computer is by far faster than the human mind while making less errors under pressure and this saves valuable time with more reliable performance...
Yes, a CAD user definitely has a good position regardless of the area of usage. Definitely so, will a person using CAD advance to a better positon than average retail positions. ..
The opportunity to become an engineer is rarely overlooked by those skilled in CAD as that adds to increased future income and advancement...
Question: How can i get to be a CAD technician ? how long would it take me to do a CAD course, how much does it cost?. im on an engineering course, but i want to speed up my CAD skills and work part time as a CAD technician if possible, how can i go about this ?
Answer: Take a look at you collage prospectus or other local ones the courses tend to be about 1 term long and go from beginners 2d up to advanced 3d and cover architectural and engineering disciplines as well as design and arty stuff.
The only way to be a cad technician is to get a job as one good luck
Question: How does a cad technician price jobs?? i have been asked to give a price to create a few CAD drawings from rough sketches, walkways etc,
how do i go about pricing these drawings?? or if you are a draughtsman how much do you charge??
Answer: $100 per hour usually
Question: What is the salary of a CAD technician? Its kinda what i'm getting my associates in so......I was just looking for some ballpark numbers????
Answer: A good source of information is salary.com, but being in a manufacturing industry that works hand-in-hand with CAD designers, I would have to say that it starts out at anywhere between 35K-45K, This is completely dependent on your industry as well as the area that you are working in. The salary addressed above is relative to the Midwest and is a starting value.
The most important question that you should ask yourself is are you happy doing what you are doing now, or would you like to start a career? Sometimes less pay will involve higher rewards later in life as well as more opportunities to grow and create the wealth that you would be comfortable with.
Question: How do I go about becoming a CAD Technician? Cant afford to leave current job for training at the moment
Answer: These days you don't unless you have a bachelor's degree.
I have an associates degree in CAD Technology. My last real job search was 3 years ago. No employer I sent a resume to would even consider me, even with 6 years previous work experience as a CAD Tech simply because I have no bachelors degree. ...so what did I do? I had to accept a position as administrative assistant. ...but because of my level of computer expertise I'm also the programmer (company uses in house created software....created by my boss) and the unofficial IT person.
Question: What salary can an Auto Cad technician expect in Ireland? With level 3 city & guilds and with 8 months expierance
Answer: Probably 30-40,000 euro a year. Look for jobs on www.recruitireland.com, www.monster.ie, www.loadzajobs.ie. www.jobs.ie, www.irishjobs.ie to get an idea.
Question: what does an architectural CAD graphic technician do? i might take it in BCIT what exactly is it?
Answer: I would take it at a community college. But the take the plans and turn them into blue prints. CAD is computer aided drafting.
Question: What qualificaions do I need to become a CAD Technician?
Answer: abilities in drafting and drawing, mathematics, computer, and blueprint reading. you should also have good vision, good estimation skills, and not be colorblind.
Question: What is the average wage for a CAD Technician? What do they actually do? Please Australia Dollars
Answer: There are a few facets of CAD. It involves Computer Aided Drafting. In other words they design different things on the computer. Mechanical engineers use it, Architects use it, structual engineers use it, fashion designers use it, depending on what you do will depend on the wage and the wage depends on your experience. The wages vary from $35k au per year up depends on what you specialise in.
Question: what is a CAD technician II? what is the difference between an entry level CAD technician and a level II CAD technician?
Answer: 2 d and 3 d computer aided drawing. more in depth knowledge of the CAD program.
Question: in order to be a cad technician what type of training do you need ? i'm in dis one class where i gotta answer this question and i cannot find it n-e where
Answer: At least community college but in general, the more education you have, the better company you will work for and the better salary you'll get.
Mike Honeycutt
Question: Is being a CAD Technician a rewarding career in the UK?
Answer: what you mean by CAD Technician?
i work on the drawing boards using autocad and the guys around me are on 80000-12000 pounds a year, not me tho because i'm only a trainee
Question: colleges plz help(cad technician)? what r the recomended colleges to be a cad technician
Answer: Usually not taught at the university level. Try the local community colleges (inexpensive) or (for bucks) a good trade school. It will help to decide what sort of CAD you are into. Electrical, Mechanical, Architectural for example are totally different -- maybe similar tools, but some have resistors, some have I-beams, and some have bathtubs.
Question: What is the average Trainee CAD Technician's salary? I've been a trainee CAD technician for a year and a half and am on a pretty low salary (£8000) for 4 days in work & 1 in college (30 hours work, 7.5 college<2nd year HND Civil Engineering>). I'm 17, 18 very soon, and want to know should I not be on higher?? The wages have been froze also, which is ok for people on a decent salary but I'm not one've them!! I was promised a large rise on completion of every year in college which was a large pull factor in taking the job. And also, just in case you know, when do I stop being a trainee and become 'CAD Technician'?
Don't really want to ask in work incase they think I'm in 4 the money.
Answer: mmm.. That is a very low salary I would say, but I am not sure where you are base London or outside.
Just to give you a quick idea, I started my first job as a CAD technician in a small town in Hertfordshire, for a very small firm and very little knowledge of english and not previous UK experience, basically I only knew AutoCAD. They offered me £19000 and after a year they offered me a rise to £22000. Well I was working 37.5 hours a week but even with that I think your salary is really low.
Of course that was 3 years ago and considering the current climate, employers are taking good excuse of that and paying low salarys wich I dont think is in all the cases fair, considering that when the markets picks up, they will be very reluctant to offer normal salarys.
Very hard times for all of us!
Question: What does a CAD technician do?
Answer: Hate to be picky but, a CAD Technician is the person who looks after the hardware and software to enable the CAD Designer to perform their tasks
Question: can anybody tell me the job nature for cad technician ? i think in getting major in it
Answer: They are Auto cad draftsmen, or Auto cad instructors
Question: Any computer technician have experience with CAD computers? This one has decided not to print after 2 years.? It's an oversize HP printer. It prints out a test page, but nothing from CAD. We've reinstalled the drivers, made sure the printer is selected, replaced all the cables, tried USB and parallel cables, tried 2 printer servers. I'm ready to pull my hair out.
Answer: try reinstalling the pc and checking your disk space.
Your temp image (the file that goes to your printer) might be corrupting.
Question: cad technicians i have a question? what are some recomended schools to be a cad technician thanks
Answer: I would pick something close and cheap, then do all you can to stay at the top of the class. Anything you learn better than the rest of the students will make the difference more than choosing a higher recommended school. Dude, I didn't even finish my drafting certificate, but at work the engineer and the associate degree always depend on me to help them with their cad questions. It helps to get the software on your home computer.
Question: CAD technicians ? I am starting an asssociates degree in civil engineering that is very CAD intensive.
What sort of qualifications do I need to work as a CAD technician. Is it feasible to get taken on part time to work as a CAD technician.
My associates degree will give me 2 years credit on a University degree. I fully intend to study Civil Engineering at University one day.
Answer: A prospective employee would be more interested if you have an engineering qualification or hands-on experience.
CAD software is just a tool that helps an engineer to capture their ideas and develop them efficiently, so a CAD Jockey needs engineering experience/education which they can call upon to steer their design process.
I taught myself AutoCAD in my spare time whilst I studied Manufacturing systems engineering at university.
After I graduated, I approached a local company and asked for some work experience. I did not get payed for about 3 months, but in that time I had access to High end 3D CAD software, which was not being taught at university at the time.
I showed willingness to learn and shortly after was offered a permanent position.
The company later paid to send me on numerous training courses for the specific CAD packages they used.
That was over 10 years ago and I've not looked back since.
Question: CAD Software? Google SketchUp or Pro Desktop? Hey, I'm going for a job interview next week as a CAD Technician. The company said that I can use my own prefered software for the job. I want to get really good at one of them (either Google SketchUp or Pro Desktop) as I don't have the time to do both.
So which one is the best?
Thanks in advance.
Answer: Google sketchup is quicker to learn and more forgiving (if you do something wrong) but Prodesktop is a lot better technically and for a job interview I would definately suggest Prodesktop
Question: How is the manufacturing industry in Philly? I'm looking to relocate there. I'm in the CAD, Technician, Automotive field. I hear it's pretty strong and others tell me it's dieing. Let me know what you all think!
I currently live in Portland, Oregon.
Answer: non-existent!!!
Question: Where can i get shoe showroom drawings or Images or Design? I m a Designer as well as cad technician. Right now I m working on project of shoe showroom. I m looking for it's drawing image or a design for reference. Can anyone suggest any link or site for it?
Answer: you can try with the various shoe makers are there who prepare the shoes for the public on demand. I have ordered some time to shoe maker i know before taking my order he has shown me various designs and you can also try in the Agra city which is famous for the shoe making in the world.
Question: What kind of degree is required to do 3D Modeling and Renderings in Sketchup??? I'm currently a CAD Technician (Architectural) and it's alright but I want to get into doing renderings and 3d modeling using Sketch-Up. What kind of degree would I need to do that kind of stuff?
Answer: I've never used Sketchup, but a degree in Industrial Design does a lot of 3D modeling and rendering. They use programs like Maya, Rhino 3d and Solid Works and do projects like product design, simple architecture and digital sculpture. Purdue has a great program, and I've heard very good things about Notre Dame too. There is a School in San Fransisco that offers degrees online that also looks like a good program. I think it's called Academy of Arts Institute.
Question: What are the differences of Pilasters and Piers? I work for a structural engineering firm as a CAD Technician. I have researched this question and have gotten the Architectural definitions that really does not apply to Structural applications.
Please describe the physical characteristics of a pier and a pilaster.
I have an idea of how this will be answered so I will try to clarify with my dilemma at hand.
At beam bearing on masonry (cmu) wall, what is the additional reinforcement and grout considered below to support the additional load?
Pier or pilaster?
Answer: OK, in your application and that being Masonry, a pilaster is that portion of the wall that has the additional vertical and horizontal reinforcing designed to carry the lentil beam and it's load.
A pier would be the same but the vertical reinforcing would have been sub-grade and continuously run from a drilled caisson, through the footing and into the wall. Normally, this type would be larger than the wall thickness and therefor it would be a column above grade, not a pilaster.
Question: Am I still entitled to get my bonus if I resign? I am a CAD technician and have worked for my company for 3 years. I have decided to change careers as I have been doing this job for 20 odd years and have had enough. I have accepted a job as a senior Youth Worker (I have always dreamed of doing this), but as I am here on a work permit I haven't handed my notice in yet because I haven't got my new permit yet. I had my appraisal today and felt really bad as I got a raise and a bonus (which is paid out at the end of November), but I cannot say anything yet as I don't know if I will get a new permit. If the permit does come through then I will stay here until the end of november. I really need the bonus but am not sure if they have to give it to me after I have resigned. It is down in writing as we are given a report following out appraisals. So can they take the bonus back or do they have to give it to me?
Answer: You are entitled to your bonus. Don't feel bad about it. The company probably has a written policy as to how many days you have to work to get your bonus, which determines the cut off date to receive bonus. You will need to give them two weeks notice (unless you want to get them mad at you). If the bonus is paid at the end of Nov for sure, you can give notice exactly two weeks before that date and you should be okay.
Question: I would like to work in the U.S ...? I am a 21 'CAD Technician' from Scotland (UK) and would love to work somewhere in the U.S.A for a few years. Are there opportunities for my sort of role and if so where would you guys recommend in the U.S?
I am very experienced in 2D CAD, mainly involving commercial and corporate interior's. I am also fairly experienced in 3D CAD, creating 3D visualisation images of receptions/offices etc.
Please let me knwo what you guys think!
21 year old i meant! Haha
Answer: We would be very glad to have you visit our little neck of the
world.
Were I interested in the information you are asking about, I
think I would do the following:
Using google advanced search, determine the areas where
an inordinately large number of CAD jobs are available.
Then, scan for the sort of geographical, social, political
add climatic locales here in the U.S that might be to your
liking..
I've concluded from your comments that your area of
specialization is interior design. You would probably
fair better in the larger metropolitan areas than in the
countryside. Cost of gas and all that.
Hope you are able to achieve your goal.
Question: What do you do as a job? I work in a architectural office. Im a CAD technician or architectural technologist. Just trying to ask a normal question. Please also explain fully.
Answer: A receptionist. I can't find a job in my field.... I graduated 2 years ago with a degree in interior design.
Question: Where should I work ? I am recieving my Associate CAD technician degree. I am continuing my education by going for my BS Mechanical Engineering.
My goal is to design new types of dog toys and such.
What kind of job should I pursue with my CAD experience until I obtain my engineering degree?
Answer: There are plenty of them out there but I would suggest somewhere drawing small items as opposed to buildings and structures.
Question: Which of the following trades would you consider most desireable? Decent job environment, good pay, etc? CAD
Auto Technician
Electronics
HVAC
Electrician
Medical Assisting
Computer Networking
Also, what field exactly do electronic techs work in? Do they just work in factories?
Answer: Cads are a great salary based job if yuo can land the job. It's very competative and you have ot be a natural for best result. ;look for 20 grand to about 60.
Auto technicians can make 50 to 100 grand a year all according to your employment dealer or self employed. It's a gold mine, one of the easiest to get into with the least amount of start up funds, and once you open a business you have cash flow every time a customer walks into your shop. But If you are successsful in this field chose your school well. Most tech schools have either teachers with little to no field work, or they have teachers who did not train on the newer models of cars and are now qualified ot teach. You also need to be without sconscious to work for an auto dealer. They are notorious crooks, and expect you to be able to charge several people (2 to 4) for service at the same itme when most of them have their cars parked waiting for service. You will not find many people who can give a car dealer a good recommadation unless it's a foreign model dealer. That's the main reason for the trouble our domestic companies in America faces.
Electronics depend on your employer. If you can land a federal job work your way up in grades and considering the benefits such as time off, sick leave, vacation, 20/30 year retirement , large matched 401-k and job protection you can start for less pay, this averages about 25 to 60 grand depending on location and employer and the type you hande (repair, new work, industrail, commercial or residential(the lowest paying).
Heating and air(hvac) rewards good if yuo wish to start your onw company later in ife. but there is lettle chance ot make big bucks here as an employee unles you liv ein alarg ecity where the expenses eat it up. It's dirty, dangerious, and hard work often in unhealthy environments such as plants,(lots of insulation) or huge mall jobs. most of these average about 30 grand for the average worker.
Electricians earn (according to location, union or not, type ; plant electrician, industrial, commercial, residentiol Lowest paid) expect to earn 20,000 a year to 90 wwith over time. This is also a great field to eventually og into your own business.
Medical Assisting is the least paying of all of those you list.
Unless you are a liscenesed Doctor's assistant you will be no more than a low paid secretary .
Working for Doctors are the worst profession to work in unless you are in a degree field. Doctors just do not on the average pay well and do not give much respect to their employees. expect about 8 to 10 an hour in most areas and up to 14/16 in others. Some doctors value good employees and will pay wel to keep them but on the average no.
Computer networking pays wel if you can land the right job (epecially with the state or feds) Most computer networking consists of runing cables in plants or office building and requires a lot of hard, dust and sometimes dangerious work.
If you are lucky enough to get the experience need to apply for advanced positions you will do ok. You need to gain the expereince and than would usually have to move on from company to company often moving to gain a decent salary. Starting on the ground floor and staying with a company seldom gains you any large salaries. It works the same with engineers.I've known net working specialist to move on an average 5 times in 10 years to get even a decent salary and thna land a heafty 70 grand a year in the same company which thought he wasn;t worth a raise. expect about 32 to 90 grand a year.
Most graduates in technical schools never get a job in their fields or do so only to move on to something else after getting tired of low salaries. Most computer networking graduates are already behind in the trade in training before they graduate.
Our education system sucks and ranks very low in education, and technical training.
As an employee I would rank those jobs as follows with #1 best.
1-cad
2-auto technician
3-computer networking
4-electronics
5-electrician
6-hvac
7-medical assistant.

Question: i just realised? i havnt eatin all day..i got up late this mornin and didnt have time to eat breakfast. then i decided to work through lunch so i could finish early. i was in the middle of drawing a house(im a CAD technician) and just got caught up in drawing it. so its 4:10pm now and ive been surviving on tea all day...the wierd thing is im not even hungry?why do you think that is...i wouldnt everyday lol!
Answer: Its probably because you haven't thought about it.
When you think about it, you get more hungry.
When I leave it too long to eat, when I do actually get the chance, I can hardly eat anything because I think your stomach shrinks slightly
Question: I can't find a job and I'm getting depressed... I now find a perfect job but can you help and check my english? Hi guys, I have graduated from university ages ago now and I can't seem to find any work with all my applications, could you please help me with my grammar English as i wish to forward a cover letter to respond to a perfect role that I have found.
"Dear Sir/Madam
I refer to the position of Graduate CAD Technician advertised at fish4.co.uk on Nov 12th, 2008. Please find attached my Curriculum Vitae, the required information specified in your advertisement.
Recently I graduated from the Birmingham City University with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) majoring in Computer Aided Automotive Design. Whilst studying this program I have acquired skills which I feel that I can apply to the position that you have advertised in a very short time.
The course invovled a large aspect of using CAD systems for assignments in particular a software called Dassault Systems CATIA v5. Using this program allowed me the ability to design automotive parts for vehicles and new product designs from sketching through to concept modelling. For my final year project at university I designed a bodykit for a student formula vehicle which is exactly a student version of formula one. I feel with this experience I can be an outstanding candidate for you in addtion I am seeking a career with a future, and as you state on the advertisement that "must be able to use CAD & this will be an inregral part of the company long term" this can only underline that I would be ideal for this position.
I am an individual who believes that quality must lie at the root of everything we do. I am very enthusiastic, energetic, a quick learner, excellent speaker, a good team player, highly motivated, very reliable and cooperative. My confident nature, coupled with my team working skills, has made me a great asset to my previous employers, as they will vouch.
I am extremely excited about this opportunity it has a definite appeal for me, both on a personal and career level. I enclose my resume for your review and look forward to meeting with you in the near future. Should you have any questions or require clarification on any information, please do not hestitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely "
cool i can edit that no problem, does it flow okay? sound go okay?
Answer: "I am extremely excited about this opportunity it has a definite appeal for me, both on a personal and career level." is two sentences.
Question: What are some fun and high paying computer jobs??? I'm a 22yr old currently working as CAD Technician (only for 1yr)making about 33,000/yr. I went to a 2 year school, called NTI, that specializes in Computer Aided Technology. I don't mind my job to much, but I can't see myself working as a CAD Tech all my life so I thought about going back to school to get a Bachelor Degree for computer science. I've always loved computers and I want to learn everything I can about them and maybe get a lot better job then what I have now. I was wondering what are some good paying jobs that are worth going to school for??? Some of the jobs I thought about are a Computer Support Specialist, a Network Administrator or something related to Networking, Cyber Security. Are these jobs worth going to school for or are there better ones? When I did research I found that there are SO many dif. computer jobs and I'm really lost now. If I were to go to school, lets say at ITT Tech, would the degree I get involve all of these jobs??? I need some help ASAP. Thanks.
I've also looked at Criminal Justice-Cyber Security. I think it be fun to deal with scammers, fraud, and hackers and all that stuff. The only thing that it might deal with that would be werid would be sex offenders using the web to prey on underage people. What about that job? Would this job be some what realted to IT Security???
I think going back to school would be good for me and getting a Bachelors Degree is a big goal for me. The only reason I went to NTI was because they have a 100% placement rate of grads and I wanted to get out in the field and start working right away and hopefully go back to school. Also I got about half my tuition paid for when I went to NTI so I don't have too much debt versus someone who is going to a 4 year school. I live in the Twin Cities and I think the school I would go to would be ITT Tech. Is there anyother schools that I should consider?
Answer: Ah, the nice thing is here are so many to choose from. Before I got a BS in Computer Science, I was interested in website design and drawing graphics. The programming and database courses I took really helped my coding abilities and versatility to design different types of websites.
I think all the things I will pursue will be web development related, but I think these computer jobs would be really cool...
1. Sports statistics database. I love the stats that the announcers come with during NFL games, and I wonder how cool the programs are that help them out.
2. Printing. I'm looking for a place to get jerseys made for the USA hockey team that I play on. Computers make my logo design get printed, and computers help create embroidered patches to put on our sleeves for our sponsors.
3. Mobile communications. I'm interested in the websites that send songs, ringtones and wallpapers to cell phones and mobile devices. Verizon has a cool service where you can send email to phonenumber @ verizon and it becomes a text message.
I hope you enjoy choosing your new line of work, whatever it may be!
Question: What's up with google tv, apple tv, roku xds, etc? I've been seeing some commercials on these devices and services. I live in a rural area. Roughly between 40 and 70 miles from a large city with broadcast stations, and 5 miles outside the city limits of a small town which doesn't have a local cable company anyway. Up til now the only choices we have had were satellite and antenna. Satellite companies want too much for their services and are unreliable in bad weather. Antenna tv is free but since the switch from analog to digital the quality for rural viewing is vastly reduced. However, we CAN get dsl. Which is what made me pay attention to the first few commercials for google tv, apple tv and hulu. I used to be a lot more tech savvy years ago. I was a cad technician. Being a cad draftsman pretty much forces you to become tech savvy. But I've been retired for over 5 years. As far as technology goes that might as well be 5 decades. I wish someone would cut through all the salesman and techy hype and just let me know if any of these technologies can bring me the type of television service that city people get with att uverse and time warner. What system do I need, how much will it cost, how soon can I get it, and will it work once I've invested the time and money to install it?
Answer: None of these devices give you a broadcast or cable TV-like experience. Instead of a bunch of channels that have programming going all day long, you get on-demand viewing of movies and TV shows.
I have a Roku, and I'm very happy with it. It cost me $100. It connects to my home broadband Internet (cable, but DSL would work too), and lets me watch movies and TV shows from Netflix and Amazon. For Netflix, I have to pay $9/month (which gives me unlimited watching which also works on the computer); for Amazon, it's $2 or $3 per movie or show that I watch.
Beyond Netflix and Amazon on-demand viewing (which I think most of these devices support), some also allow you to do things like surf the web, watch YouTube, listen to Internet radio, watch photos, videos and music stored on your computer. etc.
Also note that many newer TVs and Blu-Ray players include similar capabilities - for instance my Blu-Ray player also does Netflix and YouTube.
Question: Masters Degree in Engineering? I hold a BEng(hons) Mechanical Engineering and I currently work as a CAD Technician. I don't like my job and I have looked for a new one for ages in a different engineering sector but to no avail. I just feel completely fed up.
I am considering going back to University to do a masters in project management or to do a research degree. The latter option seems to me to be so interesting! I have a passion for research, I did my undergraduate dissertation in nanotechnology --- it's totally the job I want but the one I can't find. To me it seems to be a researcher in science/engineering you need a masters or a doctorate :(
How much more would a masters degree make me stand out from the crowd?
Answer: I don't know where you live but nanotechnology is a hot field right now but to do research in it you will need at least a PhD but if you are going back for your Masters, you might as well do a PhD. Nanotechology is a wide field that covers everything from chemistry to biology.
I say go for it, only you can change you life if you don't like it.
Be sure to make contacts while you are pursuing your degree so you can find a job you like afterwards. Contacts are as important as your degree when you are looking for a good job. A lot of students make the mistake of just solely focusing on academics while in college and not taking any time to network and make connections through professional clubs, career fairs, employer mixers, professional society events, etc.
Learn to write well. If you do go into research you will be writing a lot of papers to be published, making a lot of speeches and presentations and writing a lot of grant proposals. Even as a PhD or Masters student.
Question: Does my employer have any right to nose into my business?? I finished Uni in June 2007 - I studied Mechanical Engineering. I have been working at a company as a CAD Technician. This job is slightly unrelated (more construction/architectural based). Thus I have been looking for a job more suitable as I find it a bit boring - drawing buildings/structures on the computer.
As an Engineer I think more logically than my colleagues & they seem to only know about the products the company fabricates. All the products are externally supplied and we do not manufacture.
I want a more logic based job. It seems my colleagues are not engineers as they are CLUELESS when it comes to mathematics/chemistry/physics - I can't have an engineering discussion with them.
I was ill last week for 2 days - went back to work Monday. I was called to office by my boss & he asked if I have my eye on another job. I said yeah as I'm open minded. He wants me to stay long term. When I was ill I got a feeling he checked my computer's internet history!
It may be his computer, granted. But it doesn't give him the right to pry in my life when he knows Agencies are still in touch with me -- he's known that before I started and he knows my capablities (nobody else in my office has a degree)
Answer: yes, its his computer
Question: What are my chances in finding a job in the architecture/construction field? So I got laid off in June as a CAD Architectural Technician due to the economy. I've been struggling to find a job here in MN, which is the one state that has been hit the hardest in the architecture/engineering/construction field. I'll check out Careerbuilder.com and search for jobs and the only jobs I do find are in other states, mainly CA. I'm so freaking pissed off that there is nothing out there. I got so many bills to pay and my unemployment benefits just aren't enough. Yesterday I sent my resume and a cover letter to a big percentage of architect firms here in MN and I've already had 10 replies saying that they're not hiring. I've been thinking about going back to school, but what are the chances the banks will even give me a school loan???? One reason my field has been impacted so much is because the stupid banks won't give out loans to people in the first place. So am I basically screwed for the next 3 years? I've applied for other jobs that pay way less, but even they won't hire me. I don't know what to do and I'm wondering if I should just go back to school for accounting or some other field where there is a high demand for workers. If anyone is in the same boat, please let me know what you're doing to make ends meet. I should mention I'm only 23 and I have school loans, a car payment, rent, car insurance and a phone bill to pay. I'm basically screwed right now and this economy doesn't seem to be getting any better. :(. Are there ways to get school loans, even though I already have school loans I'm paying???
Answer: Down markets is part of our industry, this will not be our last, there will be others. Heck, this is the third recession for me. If you're unwilling to move/relocate, there really isn't all that much you can do. It's not like you're the only one looking for work, the entire industry is hurting. The good news is indicators show we are at the bottom and we're waiting for the economy to pick up. Since we're in the front end of the market, you can't reliably look for signs for recovery on TV. By the time data is recorded for the number of building permit applications, architectural offices already onto other projects.
No one can say when our market will pick up, but it will happen. The lesson learned here is to take advantage during a good market. For young candidates like you, you need to pursue your registration, get ahead of peers in the office by volunteering for more responsibility, honing your craft by working 60-80 hours/week, volunteer at AIA functions and save up whenever possible. That was the formula that worked for me when I was your age. I did end up working overseas because of the market in the US. The best part about this profession is, your hard work will pay off.
Question: What kind of 3D-software should i use which will be playing "Bridge-role" with a CNC machine.? i'm a dental laboratory technician and preparing for my first 3D-Teeth-Morphology-Library with the scanned image database of natural teeth which will take a foundation role for "Auto-Design".
Fortunately, i have an experience with computer programming large, computer graphic little, Unfortunately, i have no skill in the CCN/CAD area. In this efforts, i just came to know about MACH3 recently.(Briefly, Blender and 3DS Max are usefull for my aim?)
Answer: i doubt any animation software on the market will deal with your needs Blender and 3DS Max etc because there are mostly models and animation program you will need to model them to my knowledge they won't automatically model the teeth or whatever you need. I would think you would need to go to a software designer and tell them what you want and what your needs are. There mite be some automatic software out there but i have not come across them
maybe it's because i don't look for them and i am not interested in them
Good luck

Question: Raising Investment Capital for Residential Development - UK Question? I know there's more orientated places to ask this question but here goes.
I'm a structural technician who runs his own CAD agency, and I've drawn up and costed a barn style residential property, found a suitable plot of land and met with planners. I'm 110% confident it can be built with a substantial profit (around 34% gross profit.)
I don't intend to build this propperty as my own, but as a source of income to manage the project and then sell off the final article.
In the meantime, I need to find some investors and would like some more information about how to seek out and approach them. I'm not interested in mortgaging the properties, just offer a return to the investors on their capital investment.
Answer: With business you still have to pay this tax & that tax, but ih you get a house its an investment without tax, buy & sell your gross profit is your net, but if you want more value then ofcourse you need to give a facelift with the property.
I just invested money on a beatiful house, dont have to earn big money to buy a big house, just 7.5k deposit and earning around15k per annum, i have asmall bar in my house playing room too, call richard on uk property invest on 01214525600 tell him i told you.
After giving up smoking I can afford extra 125 pounds that I used to spend on tabacco and another 320 pounds for drinking outside it will all change on 1st July. This would effect the Bars & night clubs alot since 65% of major clubers are smokers other 35% are dead anyway because of smokers.
Good Luck & Good Health & Make Tax Free Earnings
Question: Where can I get a diagramed book on 1981 Caddy emission gismos and their proper vacuum controls hook-ups? '81 Cad w/368cu" had used motor installed at a lic. garage. Has been discovered that elec-controled vacuum ports are not hooked up. Two vacuum lines go nowhere. Smog pump was not hooked up to the air management valve and same has ports for (?). Mechanic failed to even install the PCV valve. Can not go back to shop as the mechanic sold it. Have received 4 of 6 books ordered on emissions that helped me fix the PCV-yet, I don't know if it's supply vacuum is direct or whether it is supposed to come through a thermal control unit. Have hooked up the smog pump to the air management valve but there are vacuum ports going nowhere. All diagrams available in auto service manuals appear to be designed for a trained mechanical technician as descriptive terms are abreviated and there are no identifying pictures of "whar" goes to "what." Could use something like "EMISSIONS & DIAGRAMS W/PICTURES of PORTED ELECTRONIC CONTROLS" as would be applied to a 1981 General Motors 6.0L V8(6-4). HELP !
Answer: I would try getting a GM restoration packet. Call 800-222-1020 and give them your VIN. If that doesn't work, check your Haynes/Chilton manual.
Question: Done with college, wanting to move but need a job first!? I'm on the west coast looking to move to the east coast. I want to live in a big city, my family is in NY, I want to try Chicago, Philadelphia or Boston. I have a degree in engineering design. Throughout college, I worked full time as a auto technician at a car dealership, I have 5 years experience (being only 23, I've been told that's very impressive). I'm looking to work as a CAD drafter or engineering technician. If I apply like crazy what are the odds of finding a job? I'm moving at my own expense and will let the company know that in the cover letter. I hear it's verrrry difficult to find a job in another state. What are my odds?
And if I was lucky enough to find a job, how much time do employers give for entry level applicants? Is 3-4 weeks reasonable?
Answer: You going to be moving into the areas with the highest unemployment..........thousands and thousands are out of work........I would start applying like crazy...........you know the winter sucks.......big time........6 months out of the year its snowing or raining.........

Question: Known issues with the Toshiba Tecra 9100 laptop? I recently bought a used laptop, a Toshiba Tecra 9100. On startup, it will sometimes freeze before Windows XP can even load. If Windows does manage to load and I get to the desktop, it will freeze soon after. And this is if the laptop even starts up, sometimes I'll press the power on button and the indicator light will come on, without any other sign of life. I then have to hold the button until the light goes off, then try again. I also don't have any peripherals attached (mouse, wireless USB adapter, etc.), and it does this with the AC cord connected as well as disconnected.
I was just wondering if these laptops are known to ever experience these problems, because then when I get it repaired, I can point the technician in the right direction (resulting in me hopefully paying less in time saved). He estimated the work would cost $150 CAD, unless it took over an hour. He tested the hardrive and checked viruses for free, and found no problems.
Any info/ thoughts are appreciated, Thanks
Answer: I worked with Toshibas for over 4 years in a support function. I had a 9100 that I used as my work laptop and it never gave me any problems. However, what you are describing is a hardware related problem and most likely your motherboard has gone bad, which is bad news. Replacing a motherboard is a complicated exercise, and you should do some research as to the costs involved.
Hope that helps.
Question: Cost of living in Canada, Ontario.? Hello,
My husband and I are thinking of moving to Barrie, Ontario. My husband was born in Canada, but left when he was a teen. He currently works for a computer firm as a computer technician, with 10 years experience. I am a Veterinary assistant, although I haven't had any formal training. I have also worked in an office environment, and have a great reference from my former employer. We would like to know what our chances are if we were to move to Canada. Would we be able to live comfortably with average incomes? What would we be left with after taxes have been deducted from our salaries? Would it be enough to cover our rent, and other expenses? And how much is car insurance, on average? At least one of us will need a car. My husband has been driving for 15 years, and has a clean record. We would like to rent first before buying our own home. Would the mortgage payments be too high for a modest home? We will have $27,000 CAD for a down payment.
Please advise! Thank you
Answer: When coming to a new country there are many things to consider. Many independent immigrants come to Canada with a sum of money to help to get established in their new community. It is important to know what the real cost of living and employment conditions are in Ontario. It is very important that you are budgeting your money; that first job might take some time to get.

Question: Networking Topologies and Access Metods? I am really struggling on where to start:
Astro Tech Components, a company that manufactures parts for the aeronautics industry, is having trouble with a network segment in one of its departments. Its IT director has asked you for help. The network consists of 300 workstations using a mix of client OSs and connecting to both UNIX and Windows Server 2003 servers via Ethernet 10BASE-T. The department experiencing problems is the CAD/CAM group, which had fought for months to get newer, more powerful workstations. Now the technicians finally installed the more powerful workstations, however, the users can’t access the network. You ask what kind of network they are on, and the IT director says that this group was upgraded to 100BASE-TX, along with two other groups, just yesterday, because these users needed the extra speed. When you ask whether all users are affected, she says that everyone—even the department vice president, who has full rights to the network—is prevented from logging on. You suspect that the CAD/CAM users’ network access is the problem. What steps do you take next?
Answer: Here's the problem: 10bae T can be be either cat3 or better.
100base-tx CAN NOT upgrade off cat3 - The standards for 100base-tx specify that the network being updated must have all connectors, panels, and cables at minimum cat5 certification.
so it sounds like the techs didnt check the old cabling system to make sure it wasn't "cat5 legacy"

If I were you i would investigate the fact that the network is 10baseT and the department is 100baseT
Question: How can i get to be a CAD technician ? how long would it take me to do a CAD course, how much does it cost?. im on an engineering course, but i want to speed up my CAD skills and work part time as a CAD technician if possible, how can i go about this ?
Answer: Some community colleges offer an AS in CAD/drafting, but for a single course or two, look at the per credit hour cost at your school. Your best bet for work is probably going to be looking at your school's job services. Next best bet is going to a company like Kelly Technical Services that specialize in placing people in engineering and related fields. You might also want to consider some kind of internship program where you can get practical experience for your resume, if not a job offer after the internship is over.

Answer: Try evening classes at your nearest tech college. To become competent I would think two or three years part time study, but it would also help if you had access to CAD software so you could practise. Best of Luck

Answer: hey there.
we moved to barrie from the Uk in march and its been a real eye opener!
your husbands driving record from the uk means nothing the insurance companies really have your pants down and you can expect to pay nearly 10 times what you pay in the uk.
rent will be around $1200 a month. with the first and last payments required up front with most landlords expecting a 12 month lease.
work experience doesnt count for much and you have to see if your qualifications are recognised in Canada even then resumes are ignored if you havnt got the all important Canadian experience.
tax is another thing the provincial and federal government love to grab off you
finally most banks and mortgages want between 25% - 35% down payment for newly arrived immigrants.
dont let this put you off i thought you ought to know the truth rather than sugar coat it Barrie is a lovely place with lovely people in it and we hope to stay here for the foreseeable future
hope this helps
