Question: beyond petroleum engineering technician. what other jobs can i look for with my degree? beyond petroleum engineering technician. what other jobs can i look for with my degree.
2) as a petroleum engineering technology student, can i transfer to university of Houston after my two years in the community college.
Answer: You could use that degree as a start to then earn a Petroleum Engineering degree from the University of Houston, A&M, University of Texas or Texas Tech. They all offer both BS and MS degrees in Petroleum Engineering. The University of Houston just started their PE program in 2009 whereas the other 3 Texas schools have well established PE programs.
If your grades are good you should have no problem transferring to a 4-year program. You might lose some credit hours due to the differences in curriculum between Petroleum Tech and Petroleum Engineering. However, I have seen some of the Petroleum Tech programs which provided about 80% of similar classes as Petroleum Engineering during the first 2 years.
The easiest way to find out is to contact the University of Houston and discuss this with them as to what will transfer and what will not.
Question: What's the difference between an Architectural Engineering Technician and a Civil Engineering Technician? I'm interested in doing building designs. I've researched and these two seem to be the best choices. But their descriptions seem to be almost the same thing... Whats the difference between them? Heelllpppp.
Answer: Architect is responsible for the designing of a building or structure and civil engineer is responsible for the the contents that go into the structure, including concrete, steel, etc.
Question: What airlines are currently offering apprenticeships in aircraft engineering/technician? I have 6 GCSE's all above C including english, maths and science and have 2 A levels at C and above and would like to do an apprenticeship in aircraft engineering. I have applied for the RAF but they are not looking for apprenticeships till next year so i looked around most of the main stream airlines but can't seem to find any, help please.
Answer: You can't find any because there are none. In today's economy there is a large surplus of already trained and qualified maintenance technicians and engineers. Companies don't need to hire and train their own.
Question: Chemical engineer or certified engineering technician? I am in my graduating year for chemical engineering technology, would it be best to go to university and become a chemical engineer or apply to become a certified engineering technician?
Answer: lol this question is funny....its like saying..a stripper or a doctor. An engineering technician doesnt come close the doors that open for you as a chemical engineer. They respect Chem E's a lot more than ANY technician but it isnt easy I can tell you that from experience.
Question: I'm planning on doing electrical engineering technician but which type is the best? There is Electrical Engineering Technican - Power / Control / Telecommunications, which one do you recommend based on experience.
Answer: Well, nothing else works without power.
I would do some market research and see where the potential jobs are going to be over the next 20 years. Alternative energy certainly is going to be on the list.
Question: What is the pay range for a Biomedical Engineering Technician? What is it that you exactly do in this field?? Is it worth going into this field?
Answer: Check Salary.com for pay.
Check bls.gov (Dept of Labor) for for job descriptions and future outlook. I believe they break it down by state.
Question: Can I get information on Electronic Engineering Technician? I see that it takes a two year degree to attain this but I was wondering, does that also count the general education? Or is it two years after the general education is completed?
Prerequisites: I can talk about that with my counselor right? They are applied to the general education, right?
Answer: I'm an EET. If you have the prerequisites to get into the program, then it's two years.
Question: Can you become an engineering technician with a physical science degree? If so how? Thank you very much!
Answer: Yes, companies hire and train engineering technicians. They are looking at the ability to learn and carry out specific tasks under the supervision of trained engineers. This frees up engineers from some repetitive duties. Usually requires math ability, attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, etc.
Question: I was denied for TN visa Electronic Engineering Technician can I reapply as an Electronic Technician? I had to withdrawn ,I would like to apply again for the same US company with another letter job duties as outlined in OOH.
Thanks for help!
Answer: You have to apply as a Scientific Technologist and you have to be working as an assistant to an engineer.
It worked for me for 5 years until I got a company in New York called Morningside Evaluations to evaluate my credentials and experience and say I had the equivalent of a US BSEE. That allowed me to get an H-1B and to then get a green card going.
Question: are Mechanical Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering Technician the same? Are they both the same thing? Or does one do more work on the computer and the other is more hands on?
Answer: Yes, these are both one and same thing as another answer suggest.
Question: What type of safety equipment is required for a mechanical engineering technician?
Answer: depends what your working on-
fall protection harness for working at heights
safety glasses for inspection acid piping/ pumps or machining operations
lead suit when handling radioactive isotopes for weld x-ray inspection
MAny times, safety equipment is not required but I would always choose to have sturdy leather shoes/ boots. And also I keep quick access to hard hat/ safety glasses/ and ear plugs.
Question: Royal Navy Air Engineering Technician. Are they on High or low band, and how long do they do on trainees pay? My son is about to join and he's curious.
Answer: Higher pay band and he will be on trainees pay till he joins a Squadron. Promotion isnt us as good as it was for AEAs but if he excels he can get fast-tracked.
Question: POLL: What kind of degree do you need to be an Engineering Technician? Master's degree?
Bachelor degree?
What kind of degree?
Answer: basically they start from certificate level ....diploma ..is ...technician ...he can be btech ...advanced 4 years after diploma ....then can mtech ...further 2 years .....may enter to phd programmes....primarily a technician must be able to understand the machines ....operation ...repairs ....
Question: Is 40k per year a decent wage? Can I become a Engineering technician right out of college? Any info please
Answer: That depends on the cost of living for your chosen place of residence. In Canada, the average wage is $36000 for the population, so $40k would be above average.
And yes, with a 2 year community college diploma, you could be a engineering technician. With a 3 year college diploma, you could be a technologist. With a 4 year degree from a University, you could get your professional engineer's license.
Question: I have been a Civil Engineering Technician for 20 years? I would like to "get out of the box", meaning a cubicle. Can't take it much more. Does anyone know of a job that deals with the public that can utilize my technical skills? I don't mind taking a small pay cut but I have two kids to feed and need to find something that will pay close to what I make now. I'm lucky, in that I get to work with smart people, but the cubicle enviroment is going to make me go insane pretty soon. Any suggestions?
Answer: If you've been a civil engineering tech for 20 years, you no doubt have plenty of experience with design, layouts, etc.
You might want to consider moving into construction, and take those paperwork and cubicle technical skills into making something that's real. Taking a project management class could help you improve your budgeting, planning, and people management skills - skills that are overlooked in the cubicle world, but are mandatory for successful project completion.
Something along these lines would allow you to keep using your excellent technical knowledge, but to really put it to use. You'll be working with construction teams, talking to clients, and probably working outside, which translates into minimal time at the office!
Good luck...
Question: POLL: What's the best university college to be an Engineering Technician? ?
Answer: MIT, Franklin W. Pierce School of Engineering (which is the best engineering school in the country and every student gets a full scholarship)
Question: Anyone who is an Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technician who don't mind being interviewed via chat? I need to interview someone who is in this field so I can learn more about the job position and ask a few questions....5-10 minutes max. I am interested in going to school for this field.
Thanks hugh and GibsonEssGee. I'll contact you with my information.
hugh please send me an e-mail with your screen name.
Answer: As above. Count me in if you need more than one.
Question: Career as a Engineering CAD Technician? I am interested in a career working as a CAD Technician. I will be looking for work in either a construction or engineering company. Can anyone offer a rough idea of what the workload will be like in the beginning once I find a job? This will be an entry level position for me. The main thing I want to know is what percentage of my time will be working on the computer as opposed to being in meetings, going over briefs etc. Thanks!
Answer: To answer your question about computer work time vs meetings, after your initial training is complete, it will likely start out that you spend maybe 1 hour a week in a meeting and the rest of the time reviewing drawings/specifications and drafting on the computer. If you grow into the position and become a senior technician, then it will likely increase your meeting time to 5 hours per week.
This is going to be a very tough field, especially right now. I'll be honest, many of these jobs have been sent to India because it costs about 1/10 to have an international company perform the work. I worked for two separate companies that each had outsourced some work to India, which they stated was "only the work that we can't handle so that our staff won't be overwhelmed". That was a bold lie. Both companies laid off all of their domestic drafters and continued working with the Indian companies.
Getting the experience with Solid Works is going to give you the competitive edge for many companies. If you're going to work in construction, then they probably won't bother with SW, but many engineering companies are building their 3D modules and advancing quickly.
If you find a career as a CAD technician, the workload is going to vary with the business type. I worked with construction companies, and they were extremely busy during construction months (March - October) and they slowed down a lot around Christmas time. We were normally working as many as 75 hours a week, but when the business slowed down and the economy tanked, we were dropped to 30 hours and a lot of people were laid off.
Question: what is an engineering technician? I'm doing a report for my engineering class, and they've given me a sample report for an example. In the report, it tells you what the engineer of that field does as well as the engineering technician. What's the difference, specifially in software engineering?
Answer: I am a Engine Systems Engineer with a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Where I work, an engineering technician is a person who operates the CAD system for the engineers(also called a designer), or a person who will run tests for the engineers. Generally the engineering technicians do the "grunt work" and are not paid as well as the engineers (this is only my observation from where I work). Their work generally is not as detailed, and does not require that much number crunching.
Here, the people who have the title "Technician" have a B.S. in Engineering Technology. An Engineering Technology degree is similar to a more typical engineering degree, the difference being that the engineering technology classes do not go into nearly as much depth as the engineering classes.
Question: If you graduate with a mechanical engineering degree, does that automatically qualify you to be a technician? The BSME degree appears to be all theory with no hands on training. However I have heard that if you have a bachelors in engineering, you are automatically qualified to be a technician. How can this be? How is one qualified to perform repairs or installations of machinery when they have not been taught to physically work on the machine?
Answer: There are some of your classes that include a lab with it. Plus, if you want a really good ME job after you graduate, then you should get an internship over a semester that you want to take a break from school.
Many ME classes will not only cover theory, but they will cover actual parts that you will use, just as EE classes not only cover theory, but also practical applications, embedded system programming, and the kind of circuits you would use.
But generally with a BSME degree, you wouldn't want a job as a technician because technicians aren't paid nearly as well. You would want a job as an engineer, actually designing the stuff and/or testing it to see if you can break it.
Question: Is a Civil Engineering Technician a good career? What kind of work do they do?
Answer: If you have the smarts to go for a full civil engineering degree, go for that instead because the ET degree is eventually going to lead to a career dead end.
Question: with a 2 year mechanical engineering technician degree what can the air force offer me? im also a convicted felon... but its was for vandalism so im guessing they'll pardon that
Answer: With a 2 year degree you're probably looking at enlisting as an E-3. Not to bad of a rank, however, as you already know, you will need to receive a waiver. I too am a felon, and have some fellow friends which are felons, 3 of my good buddies are in the Army, so I know it's possible to enlist being a felon. One of my buddies that's enlisted has a pretty shady past, but they still let him in.
Your best bet once you're in is to do some type of wrenching job. Make sure you get it in writing from MEPS before you depart for basic.
Another option, one that I choose, is to continue your education and receive a 4 yr degree. That way if you still want to enlist, you'll enlist as an officer. I just chose to finish my BS and once I'm through with that I plan on obtaining a PhD, but these are my goals.
Anyway, here's a community specifically for felons offering resources and advice to felons: http://www.felonsforum.com
Good luck with your future!
Question: Do electrical engineering technician (associate's degree) use breadboards? I want to work with breadboards since I loved doing it when I was in high school.
Answer: Yes for sure, i am a graduate of an eet program and we did ALOT of breadboard work, anything from simple series circuits all the way to counters and timers, amplifiers, and RF transmitters. Very fun.
Question: Do Electronics Engineering Technicians do much math in their jobs? I'm currently doing the HSC in high school and I'm interested in becoming an Electronics Engineering Technician. I'm interested in the amount of mathematics they have to do in their jobs; I imagine the qualified Engineers would do that?
The subjects I do are:
General Maths
Standard English
Business Studies
Earth & Environmental Science
Biology
I also hear it's possible to become a qualified Electronics Engineer at one stage in your career path if you become an Electronics Engineering Technician.
Answer: You need basic math and algebra skills at a minimum. How much will depend upon the circuits and products you work with. Consider working on a simple analog circuit vs digital signal or video processing and the math involved.
Techs will perform construction and testing of prototype circuits. Data is collected and preprocessed by the tech and placed into some type of reporting standard for the engineer to further analyze. Further a Tech is at the front line and can be the first to notice a problem and bring it to the attention of an Engineer.
Your career as a technician will be limited only by your skills and creativity. So the more adept you become with math, science and other electro -mechanical skills, the further you will be able to advance through the pay-grades.
My company requires that technicians have a college degree. (An Associates at a minimun but a Bachelor of Science is preferred.) An individual with just a high school diploma is not considered for employment (except as an engineering intern).
This is not to say that you cannot find a tech job elsewhere, but to point out that your skill level and education will be limiting factors when seeking employment.
Question: how do you get experience as an engineering technician? ...if for every applicable job you find requires previous experience??
It makes no sense to me.
(very serious question!)
Answer: You can get training (and experience) as a technician in the Military or a trade school.
Doug
Question: Are Air Force jobs Flight Engineering or Biomedical Equipment Technician good paying jobs in civilian life? These are my top two jobs I chose at MEPS, any info on them would be helpful. And my recruiter hasn't told me which one I could get yet.
Answer: Biomedical equipment repair is one of the highest paying jobs that you can go into in a straight from military to civilian employment type of situation. Flight engineers can find employment in the civilian sector with airlines and airports, safety inspectors and jobs like that. Unfortunately any job in the airlines is going to be dependent on people actually flying. So when the economy is doing good and fuels prices drop you'll have plenty of work, but other times you might be laid off or unemployed.
Hospitals must have biomedical equipment techs though, all of their equipment, even when working perfectly, must be inspected and maintained.
I've known several who have gotten out with no additional training and earn about $55 a year. If you go on to get a degree in electronics or a related field the pay is even better.
Question: Marine engineering technician interview (Royal Navy)? Im hopefully joining the Royal Navy and have chosen Engineering Technician (Marine Engineer) as my branch.
Ive passed the RT, Medical and Fitness test and just have my interview 2 pass which is in a week.
Just looking for some advice about the job and what kind of things will my AFCO be expecting me to know, would also appreciate any books or websites etc. which would help.
Thanks.
Answer: read monsarratts running proud,,,covers most royal navy history in easy to read format,,,a phone call to RN will lead you to best source of info............learn to use oscilloscope modern motors are all electronically controlled
Question: Carpenter vs Civil engineering Technician? What is the difference between the two? I have worked as a carpenter for many years and tired of going nowhere. I was thinking about taking classes to become a civil engineering technician, but I am not sure if that is the same thing as a carpenter labor? I would hate to spend thousands of dollars to do the same job. Any information about this career field would be greatley appreciated. Thanks
Answer: Well from my experience, a civil eng tech would be heavily involved in computer aided drafting and or some computer design. I don't know any civil eng techs that would compare their job description to carpentry. Geotechnical enginering techs get out in the field most and do the concrete sampling and soil sampling. They would also get lab time in by testing the samples. Contruction engineers or stake pounders go out and set grades (set stakes in the ground to the design grade) and finish grades on earth moving and paving projects.
A civil engineering tech that has taken the computer design courses to become proficient can expect to work in an office environment with a steady 40 hours of work each week, year round.
Check out the texas a&M university website, under construction technology. It gives a break down on its 4 year program. They have a two year program as well. A local junior college for a two year program in computer aided design. Construction companies doing earthmoving, and highway projects would be the field experience.
Question: aerospace engineering operation technician? i wish to become an aerospace engineering operation technician in Canada, every website i read says you should get a 2 year associate degree, but do not explain in what. so what do i need and and where do i get it to become one?
any help would be appreciated, thanks
Answer: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos112.htm that should help
Question: marine engineering technician? joining the royal navy as a marine engineering technician and have been told to brush up on certain aspects of marine engineering all my previous experience is in construction does anyone have any advice as for study materials
Answer: If this is information required for an entrance interview the following may be helpful.
Different types of powerplant - lightweight diesel like the Perkins P6, and Yanmar engines, heavy diesels such as the various Deltic configurations and the Paxman Valenta and Ventura diesels.
Finally the gas turbine powerplants using Rolls Royce Marine Tyne, Marine Olympus and Marine Spey variants and for the new Type 45 's the WR21 combined cycle Trent gas turbine.
Get used to understanding what ships use for different powerplant configurations i.e COGOG, COGAG, CODLAG etc.
Read up on gearbox construction - dual and single helical gearing, primary and secondary reductions, torque balancing and splitting, basically how to make the gearbox as small as possible and still carry the required load.
Learn about Synchronising Self Shifting (SSS) clutches and fluid couplings, drive shafts for both fixed and controllable pitch propellers and the hydraulic systems that control the latter.
Look up the Michell type Thrust blocks and Plummer bearings, Cranes stern seals and 'A' and 'P' brackets.
General hydraulic systems with electrical control is advised.
E-mail me if you need help on specifics.
Question: Resume objective help! Engineering Technician...? I am helping my fiance with his resume, but I have NO CLUE what to put for the objective. He is applying at an energy company for a job as an Engineering Technician. This is what I have so far:
Objective: To obtain a position in a company that would allow me to learn new skills and utilize them. In turn, allowing me the opportunity to move up in the company in the future.
Answer: It looks nice.
Objective:To obtain a position in a dynamic company that would allow my to utilize my skills and learn new ones.
Question: Engineering Technician...Further my education? I have an aas degree in Automotive Technology and a cad and 3d cad cert. I have many years as an automotive technician and hope to get a job as an engineering technician.
My question is, if I got a bachelor's in Communications, would I be wasting my time? I keep being told to get a Bachelor's degree. My father works at a college I can go to for free and they have a night program and i can have my Ba in 4 years.
Am I better off just getting my foot in the door as a technician and working my way up? Or will a Bachelor's degree in communications help me?
Thanks for any and all answers. The more the better, this is a stressful situation for me in this creepy economy!
Answer: Communications??? No. Stay away from that.
It sounds like you have a lot of creds, try getting a job now (and maybe even go to school part-time in some type of engineering program).
But for the love of all things holy stay away from Communications.
Question: Info. for joing the Armed Forces (Air Engineering Technician)? I just need to know a few questions:
Im 16 years old Born in England lived there for 10 years then moved to Spain for 6 years
1) would I be able to join the armed forces?
I can speak English and Spanish and a bit of Valencian, I have finished my secondry education and have received my certificate to show i have past it. It says on the navy web site that no specific qualifications are needed for this job, but I guess they will pick the best people out.
2) Do you think my qualifications are good or anybetter to the rest?
3) After you have gave in your application and have had an interview, how long does it take for a reply?
I was wanting to go into Air Engineering Technician but I dont know anything about it (technical).
4)Will they teacher me and keep me in accomodation while I learn?
5) Once I learn about Air Engineering Technician and if they give me a job will they give me accomodation.
6) Being an Air Engineering Technician, would I be working on the ships or inland?
Answer: It all depends on whether the new aircraft carriers get cancelled or not. If they do then the Fleet Air Arm is finished and there will be none or hardly any AET's. Of course they will teach you and you will be in barracks eating Pussers scran. You could go on board but in todays Navy this is not a given. Most probably you will be based at Culdrose or Yeovilton, it is a good life as a grubber, you should do it.
Question: Difference between Mechanical engineers and technician? What is the difference in being a Mechanical engineer and a Mechanical engineering technician? what do they do different? whats the difference in schooling needed and how much is the pay difference?
Im trying to decide if its worth going through the schooling to be a Mechanical engineer or a tech.
thanks.
Answer: Your job opportunites will be greater if you are a full blown M.E. If you pursue the bachelors in MET then you are basically a highly educated technician. Look at the job postings. Engineers make way more than technicians in most cases.
I have a friend who chose the technician route when he was going to RIT in the early 1990's. He tells me all the time that he regrets choosing the technical focus because he would be paid better if he had gone the other way.
An engineer can always choose to be a technician, but a technician cannot choose to be an engineer.
Choose wisely bub.
Question: I would like to study civil engineering technician but I have question could you help me? Hi I would like to study civil engineering technician in community college but I'm living in cold climate so my question is what kind of job can I get with a civil engineering diploma? because It will hard for me study, spend money to study and after I finished get a job like carpenter or blueprints in construction because if that's going to happen after I finished my diploma in my opinion is better way to star working on construction right now.what do you recommend me? so I still study
Answer: There are a lot of jobs for civil engineering. You can design and build bridges for one. The designed or the Tapanzee, for example, graduated with a Civil Engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic.
Also, being a construction worker is not the same as being an engineer.
This will help you a lot.
Question: Electronics engineering technician? If i earn an associates degree in Electrical/electronic engineering technology:
How much do they make an hour? after two years? How is the workload? is it stressful?
Should i continue to major in accounting instead?
Answer: An Associates won't take you far in salary. The workload is basically CAD. The engineers have all the stress.
Question: What type of maths do i require for the profession Aerospace Engineering technician? Question: Can i work as a car technician if i study automotive engineering in university?
Answer: You sure can, but you should be doing better things like designing cars with a good education from a College.
Question: Can you achieve an Aeronautical or Engineering related degree from being an Air Engineer in Royal Navy? I have been thinking of joining the Royal Navy as an Air Engineer Technician.
I was wondering if you can achieve a degree in Aeronautical Engineering or another Engineering related degree from working through your service time?
I understand you can achieve NVQ's.
I would like to know whether or not I should sign up for a part-time degree in Engineering so I have something to do while I have spare time at sea.
Thanks in advance,
Mike.
Answer: You don't directly gain a degree for choosing that rate, but there are opportunities to gain a degree whilst in the Royal Navy;
You can get £1,500 a year as a member of the Fleet Air Arm to study any subject at a UK University.
You can get £4,000 to do an engineering related degree if you wish to become an Engineering Officer from an Air Engineering Technician.
And there's the final one, which is £5,500 a year for University if you join the Royal Navy to be an Engineering Officer - you must hold the A levels and pass the AIB though.
Remember, every new Engineering Officer is eligible for the Golden Hello, which is £12,000 for joining.
Question: Which Field Is Better Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Technician?
Answer: Mechanical engineering is more flexible. You can work in just about any industry.
Automotive tech is very limiting and I suspect doesn't pay as well.
Question: Is electronic technician work generally looked at as Electronic engineering related experience?
Answer: I would say so. There is a much finer line between an EE and a tech than there is between an ME and a mechanic.
If you are asking in terms of coop, that is exactly what I did. I worked as an electronic technician, troubleshooting motor controllers for a power transmission distributor, and received credit hours. I was also paid an hourly wage!
Question: Do mechanical engineering technicians get to invent machinery? Do engineering technicians get to invent and patent ideas within large companies, or is this typically reserved for the mechanical engineers?
Answer: Anyone can patent machinery. The question is, will a company be willing to pay a technician to spend his time inventing? Probably not. As a prior post indicated, the responsibility for solving the porblem, at least theoretically, usually belongs to the engineer. In good engineering teams, the problems are solved by more than one person. To that end if the idea is patented, everyone's contirbution should be documented. It usually comes down to a company's willingness to risk the cost of a patent on the potential payback. Fo that sort of risk assessment, they want to undertsand the magnitude of the gamble. Engineers are pretty good at detailing what the risks are and getting the approval for patents.
