The techs i look for are the ones who are self taught that have the hands on exsperience . Sometimes he charged, sometimes not.He once said to me, sometimes he charged nothing if it was only his time he used, but where parts were concerned everything had to go through the books. Answer: If you already got a job as a computer Technician Assistant you should know what goes on in a work day. But i will advice you to aim higher. This can be good as an entry level job into the IT industry. I graduated from 2 yr college and studied IT, then started out in help desk. It's a great way to gain troubleshooting experiences and learn and understand more about the computer systems. Trust me, a troubleshooting job teaches you more than you can ever learn in college. Try to aim for certificates such as those from Microsoft or Cisco. MCDST is the most basic troubleshooting certificate you can get, there are also MCSA, MCSE, then there is CompTIA Network+, Security+ which are also basic certs, and CCNA, CCNP from cisco. Get a job first, get into the industry because the IT industry is split into so many different sectors, after working for at least a year or 2 you can decide what will you prefer to specialise in then go for your certification or bachelors if you want.

If you mean someone who installs hardware and software, troubleshoots and fixes PC's, the educational requirements are probably less than for a computer programmer, but the salary is probably less also. Which is "better" kind of depends on what you want. If you like to be out and about more, the tech job probably gives you that - a programmer probably spends more time in his or her office. Some programmer jobs have been outsourced overseas - probably not very likely for the hands-on tech job.

When You DO find a good Tech to go to, be positive it's someone totally familiar with the brand and model specs infosheets or booklets for that laptop, here's why ... Some of them have 2 yr AA degree. A lot of them are only high school grad. Some of them have studied part-time and got a 4 yr degree. Then, they will be promoted to engineer level. I have promoted a few technicians in my team to engineers.

Get multiple certifications (A+, Network+, CNA, MCP), take classes, try to get an iternship somewhere, check other sites to look for a job like (indeed.com which mixes all job sites Monster, Careerbuilders, etc). Also you might think of joining local computer clubs and do other socializing with computer professionals.

Answer: it varies from school to school and from program to program. financial aid (go with an unsubsidized stafford loan, its about 5.5%-6.5% apr that you don't have to pay back until 6 months after you graduate) is an excellent option that i think everyone should take advantage of even if they have the slightest need. check out schools, review programs, see whats right for her. also, she may be interested in something else the school offers, so she should have the chance to explore as well. If you are hands on , self taught, your best bet is to go independent servicing home computers. You will charge about $15.00 per hour. BUT, make sure you know what you are doing.

Question: Can a computer technician reinstall my OS? If you read my previous question my first PC is damaged, and my Dad is going to bring a computer technician over to fix this one and my other PC that has somehow lost Internet Connection. Can a computer technician do it?

Question: can a degree in Information Technology lead to me becoming a computer technician? I have been in and out of different colleges trying to see what to do. I want to be able to build, maintain and troubleshoot computers, but I am a little confused in which direction I should go. Answer: If you want to become a computer technician, all you need is a CompTIA A+ Certification. Get some books on A+ certification, study hard, register and pay for the exam on Prometric.com or Vue.com, select your venue. Attend the exam, pass the test, and you'll be qualified. Experience is also important. Visit IT forums and websites and see how people troubleshoot problems. Learn to use Microsoft's Virtual Pc or Vmware Workstation. Getting an IT degree sets you on track to become a programmer, developer, administrator.

Answer: usually only a plus certification, unless you wish to move on to investigations, then you will need forensic investigation.

Answer: Hi Ryan, I started out when I was in school as a computer technician. I'd say you need to have a lot of patience for that job, especially for people that blame the computer rather than their not knowing how to properly operate that computer and dealing with the same issues day in and day out. I would say its a good starting out point though if you're naturally curious about computers. There are a lot of places you can go once you have a basic understanding but the key is to continually learn beyond what you have to do. I guess thats true in any field. I got into programming after fixing computers then into software design then into technical architecture work. One stepping stone leads to another but there are many paths. Persistence and determination and the limit to where you can go is only limited by you.

Question: A computer technician replaced my original windows with a pirated one! What do I do? A computer technician came to replace my hard disk with a160GB one, and windows XP ( service Pack 2 ) came pre-installed in it. but now i find out it's pirated. When I installed Windows Media Player 11, it says so! What do i do?

Answer: Look for your RESTORE disk. If you find it, see if that technician would make it right by reinstalling from your LEGAL copy. You see, if the guy found that you did not have the restore disk; he should have told you that you would have to BUY IT again. If he sold you a new copy that turned out to be PIRATED, then he's dead wrong. Answer: The best free Anti-Virus programs are AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition (they also have free anti-spyware and anti-rootkit) and avast! Anti-Virus. The best free spyware removal and prevention tools are Spybot Search & Destroy, SpyCatcher Express and Spyware Blaster. Each works a bit differently so having them all can really help a tech with pervasive infections. Also, you should have HiJackThis and CCleaner. They are great tools for digging deep into the system. Question: which certifications are recommended the most as part of becoming a computer technician? i asked a question about degrees and certifications but i forgot to ask about which certifications were most recommended. i saw that comptia had lots but i didnt know which ones to get plus microsoft has many also and it was a hard choice any recommendations from current technicians or people who hire computer technicians?

Answer: I think the best combinations of certs that prepare you for becoming a highly qualified compter tech are: CCNA - Cisco Certified Network Associate MCSA - Microsoft Certified System Administrator CompTIA Security + Why these three? Because they are all recognized as some of the top level certs in their areas; CCNA for Networking, MCSA for Microsoft system administration, and Security+ as a entry level security cert. The good thing about having all three certifications is that they show a potential employer that you're well-rounded. These days the network works with the systems which works with security. It is all one giant holistic system. Having all three certs shows that you have what it takes to understand the complexities as a whole. And beause there are so few computer tech who really understand how everything interacts, knowing this GREATLY increases your market value. Hope this helps.
