Question: What jobs are related to Electrical engineering? That can be done with a high school diploma ? I am looking for a part time job in a field related to Electrical Engineering to gain experience. My major is Electrical Engineering, i am in my second year of college. I have a job as a part time bank teller but i am interested in something related to my field. Are there any jobs that can be done with a high school diploma and is related to Electrical Engineering? Any requirements? I live in Miami, FL.
Thanks.
Answer: Engineering technician jobs , or you can check with companies for summer internships
Question: What field of electrical engineering most relates to chemistry? and how does it relate to chemistry? What field of electrical engineering most relates to chemistry? and how does it relate to chemistry? THANKS!
Answer: Actually, most of them.
1) In the power and process industries, electrical engineers work closely with chemical engineers.
2) All types of batteries.
3) Electronic components are all made from chemical compunds.
4) Corrosion is electrochemical in nature.
5) Process control
Which most? I would say (1). Steam power plants require constant steam quality monitoring and chemicals to meet quality standards.
But (5) is perhaps, where chemical and electrical engineers work the closest. A control loop is a blend of electrical, mechanical and process chemical steps.
.
Question: What is the difference between Electronics Engineering and Electrical Engineering? Can an Electrical Engineer specialize in electronics? I am looking to become an Electronics Engineer but some colleges only offer a major in electrical engineering. Could i major in that and still be an Electronics Engineer? Thank you
Answer: Electrical engineers generally deal with large-power applications, such as utility and industrial power systems, whereas electronics engineers deal with low-power systems such as computers and communications and smaller electronic components. There is much overlap but I would be careful going to school for Electrical Engineering while wanting to be called an Electronics Engineer.
Question: Is it okay to take Electrical Engineering even if I am not that good at mathematics? Next year, I will be a college student so I'm planning to take up Electrical Engineering and I really want to take it but I am not that good at Math/Geom/Algebra/etc. I do pass at this subject but I do not excel that much even if i'm 6th on class. They say that it's really more on math, solving or something.... but do you think it's not that hard? I really would appreciate if Electrical Engineers or students answer this, thanks in advance.
Answer: In spite of the other answerers on this page, mathematics is vital in any engineering discipline. In order to solve the problems encountered in engineering classes a solid grounding in Calculus, Algebra, Trigonometry, and Geometry are essential. True many work problems can be answered by pulling a solution from a table but if something goes wrong and you need to explain your answer to a judge or jury. I don't know is not an acceptable answer.
Question: Can a color blind person become an electrical engineering? I'm always messed up with blue and purple, green and brown...I think i get a little bit color blindness....But my dream is being an electrical engineering and i'm pursuing it. So can i become an electrial engineering?
Answer: i would go for it....funny thing is, my ex boyfriend owns his own electrical company..and he's lightweight colorblind. orange, reds and yellows....he can tell enough once he really looks at, or sees it next to each other...but he said that once he got used to what color meant what..it became easier over the years to tell. goo luck!
Question: Electrical Engineering degree - which foreign countries could I most easily find a GOOD job at? I am interested in finding a job with my electrical engineering degree in a country other than America...Europe especially. Any ideas on which countries would have the best opportunities?
I would not like to go to Asia...including India. Actually, now that I think about it, the only countries I would actually consider are those of Europe.
Oh yes I love the sun...but Spain/Portugal...aren't they a little on the lower economic spectrum compared to other nations in Europe?
Answer: If your in to sunny weather, Portugal and Spain are your best bet.
Spain is one of the richest countries in the European Union.
Portugal is not that bad.
Question: What are the pros and cons of becoming electrical engineering? I'm thinking of becoming electrical engineering. The class seems interesting to me as I want to build any electronic things, but I'm unsure if I should switch out from chemical engineering. I'm worrying about the stability and less job positions. What do you think?
Answer: Just go after what you like most and forget about job positions and opportunities for the time being.
Question: How difficult is it to study Electrical Engineering? Hi guys I would like to study Electrical Engineering but I would like to know how difficult is it to study Electrical Engineering. And for the people who have studied Electrical Engineering how was it for you?
Answer: Well in my opinion any major you choose can be determine by how much time and effort you put into your study's you cant succeed if you don't try. Much Luv = )
Question: What is the best way to find a job in Electrical Engineering in Michigan? what is the best way to go about finding an Electrical Engineering job? Anyone know about any place hiring Electrical Engineer's. Posted resume on Monster and Career builder. Have gotten some interviews, but nothing to great.
Answer: not in Michigan. Michigan is going down with employement every day. I recommend you apply down south a little bit. I know that in North carolina they pay $35/hour and in Alabama about 33
Michigan is great place but job wise, it's going down. You better start saving money and move. You have more chance getting a job down south
Question: What is a good way to combine electrical engineering and marine biology? I'm curious about fields of study, companies, or even books that one could look into that would allow one to combine electrical engineering (undergrad in progress) with a love of fishkeeping.
Answer: There's hydro-generation / tidal energy systems.
There's creation of negative ion fields for accretion of mineral deposits (island and reef formations).
The laying of cable across the global oceans.
Sonar nets and the development of more whale/fish friendly sonar systems
There's the use of hydrodynamic propulsion (think the Red October)
Using EM fields to promote microbial growths on/around sea - fish farms.
Question: How much does electrical engineering pay? I want to major in electrical engineer, I heard the pay is great. The highest of all engineering degrees. Is this true, or should I consider a different engineering degree, or a different degree in general?
Answer: It depends on what you call "great" pay. Any person smart enough to become a EE is also smart enough to become a doctor or lawyer.... with some people, you feed them bread crumbs, and as long as its more than the next guy is making, they think its great pay.
That 100K top salary is really chicken feed compared to what the higher-ups in the company are making. If you want to make good money, you can start with the engineering degree then cross over to business with an MBA, or you could go into law.
The various engineering disciplines have always jockyed for the top position. And the disparity between them is not worth considering. Instead, go with what interests you. You will be a better engineer if you are engaged in what you do, and you will make more money as a result.
In reference to what Ziggle said, yes the prospects for engineering are greatly diminished by offshoring and importing of cheap foreign engineers ala H1-B. Ziggle seems to think it will balance itself out if you start a career as an engineer now. I contend that it may, or may not, play out that way... we just don't know yet. I wouldn't base your career decision on a numbers game like that. Assume the worst, and then ask yourself if it is still worth it.
Question: How to get a head start on electrical engineering? I am going to be going back to school starting March 1st for electrical engineering. While in school I did enjoy math but didn't take any further than Algebra. I just want to try to find out what are some things I can study before I start my schooling that will help me have a great start. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Answer: Like Danny said, MATH!
Before you even touch a circuit you are going to be required to know a certain amount of math. Most engineering students enter college with some background of Calculus. Your degree will most likely have you work up to Calculus 3 and Differential Equations.
Familiarizing yourself with circuits and working hands on is good, but it will not cut it at the college level. You need to know every bit of math behind what you are doing before you go and do it.
You said that the last math you took was Algebra?
... heres a youtube channel with excellent resources on learning math
http://www.youtube.com/user/khanacademy
and here is a FREE (awesome) site with full course documents on Algebra Calc 1-3 and Differential Equations
http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/
Don't worry about playing with circuits and Matlab yet. If you really want a head start, here it is: MATH
Question: What pays more electrical or chemical engineering? I am asking for pay not interest. I know starting pay for chemical is greater the electrical however what about later on does electrical engineering eventually over take chemical engineering? After this is answered plz if you know anything about either field go ahead and rant about it. Any random information about either field would be helpful.
Answer: As far as I know they are about the same. There is a link attached to the salary survey of one group of engineering societies. Looks like they are about the same. Hope this helps!
Question: How can I learn electrical engineering at home? I can't really go to school again for another degree, but how can I learn the basics of electrical engineering at home? I'm willing to dedicate an extra room for a Lab.
Answer: no way is that gonna work to much math involved better off going to a college and learning it!
Question: What industry of electrical engineering will yield the highest salary? I'm going to school for electrical engineering technology but I'll hold the title of an electrical engineer. I was just wondering what field of electrical engineering I should get into. (i.e. manufacturing, circuits, power and energy, etc.)
Answer: Right now just follow what you like most, be a good engineer, and disregard the money issue. The world will change by the time you ger graduated.
Question: Is a double major in mechanical and electrical engineering worth the time? I'm a student at Georgia Tech and I'm currently a mechanical engineering major. I'm considering taking on electrical engineering also. Would this really give me any advantage in the engineering field?
Answer: As a manager that hires both, I'd never hire someone that did it as plainly as that. I'd assume that they were either indecisive or mediocre at both. Better to write/submit your own major to the department and rock with that. Robotics Engineering comes to mind. Automation Engineering. Or go all Disneyland if you dare and call it Imagineering!
Look on Craigslist.com. Compare your skills to a Mechanical Engineer job posting. Now an EE. How do you rate? I'd also plan to make SURE you get a summer internship somewhere (specifically for you ,but in general as well). Good luck
Question: What is the best way to find an electrical engineering job in Columbus Ohio? i never had any internship, or worked in a related subject.
i graduated 2 years ago with a bachelor's degree in electrical and computer engineering.
Answer: ouch, no internship... that puts you behind on alot of people. I suggest you just apply to as many as you can, and brush up on your skills so when you ask you "how would you do this" you will blow them away. good luck on finding a job!
Question: what do you do to get a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering? What do you take or do, I'm planning in going to a 2 years community college and then transfer to a 4 year city college and major in Electrical/Communications Engineering, would that be a good idea.
How do you get a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering?
Answer: It's only a good idea if you are not confident enough to take SAT after highschool and go to a University directly. If not, you idea seem to be good providing you take courses in community college which will be helpful and will be considered as transfer credit in university. Once you enter the university, either as a transfer sudent with certain number of credits transferred or directly after high school through SAT, you need to take courses and earn required credits to get a degree.

Question: Is it possible that electrical engineering student can take the exam for electrical lincence? Hi I heard people who have electrical engineering bachelor degree can take exam for electrical licence(like inspection or something like that) Is it right? If so can you tell me how to take the exam?
I live in CT
Thank you
Answer: Each state has its own separate electrician licensing laws. Were you to type "electrician licensing in Connecticut" into the Google search pane, you will be taken to pages of information about obtaining an electrician's licence in Connecticut --- I did it a minute ago.
Even with a degree in electrical engineering, you have to do classroom training to learn the wiring code and testing and inspecting procedures. You must also complete a set number of hours of work under competent supervision. Comparing an electrician to an electrical engineer is like comparing a nurse to a doctor --- complementary to each other.

Question: What is the best way to prepare for Electrical Engineering courses? I'm almost done with my core classes(finishing up Calculus 2 and 3, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations within the next year. I wanted to know what to do to Ace the upcoming Electrical Engineering courses.
Answer: I think you will find the engineering courses get simpler than your first year classes. The same strategies for success follow: do your hw systematically, redo your assignments before the test, etc. I didn't find the core engineering classes to be any harder than the math and physics classes (actually the opposite)

Question: What single book is the best introduction to electrical engineering? As I'll be going to college for my bachelor's in Electrical Engineering in the fall, what books can I look into now to familiarize myself with the basics?
Thanks in advance for responses :)
Answer: good luck dude i want to be a civil engineer
but nobody seems to answer our questions in this section
but i can tell you this im in college right now and in the book store there are many books on all kinds of engineering and its basics
so i reccomend when you go to college go to the bookstore and find a book you may like
or maybe look on the web for intro to electrical engineering
sorry im not much help
Question: How Hard the Electrical Engineering Will be for me ? I am a transfer student from india and I got credit for Calculus 1,2,3, Differential Equation, Linear Algebra, Calcuus Physics 1 & 1, Chesmestry 1& 2 and most of liberal arts in USA. Only engineering and electrical engineering classes are left. How hard it is going to be for me concerning i am done with all of my science and math course.
Answer: If you have been good at maths and physics, engineering will not be difficult be it electrical engineering or electronics engineering. Just go for it. You appear to be a sincere student and I am sure you will get good grades in electrical engineering. Good luck
Question: How do I find a good electrical engineering job NYC? I currently live in Texas and will graduate in May from Texas A&M with a degree in Electronics Engineering Technology (like Electrical Engineering but more application oriented rather than theory). My wife and I would like to move to NYC. I'm starting to look for a job. What is the best way to find and get an electrical engineering job? Interviewing would be a different process without face to face communication. I'd be looking at $50K-$70K starting salary.
Answer: I would recommend doing some research online to find some companies in NYC. Try looking at their online websites to see if they have anything on Careers or a place to send resumes.
You can also just visit job search websites, but you may also want to try a program that I use. It is called the JobFinder and you can see more here - http://www.motiont.com (just click on the JobFinder). It searches hundreds of job sites at once so you don't have to. Just plug in a few engineering phrases in with a NYC zip code and see what you get.
Question: Is it possible to transfer to Electrical Engineering after having experience in IT system analysis? I am working at the IT as a system analyst and I am studying Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering (Power and Control). I want to know is it possible to transfer from the current job to be an electrical engineer or some thing related without ignoring these years of experience at the IT department?
Becasue I dont want to be at the IT department forever and I want to transfer to something more related to my field sych as Power, Instrumentation, control and Power system planning engineer.
Thank you in advance
I want more details from Mr. a a on this matter. I want to know what he means by knowledge base. If it is possible, he can explain his situation.
Answer: There should be no difficulty at all in transferring. Indeed, as virtually all modern electrical kit has network/web interfaces etc, your IT skills will be an asset. You may, however, need to undertake some additional training (practical 'on the job' or theoretical) to get you up to speed with current techniques in the electrical field.
Hope that helps!
Question: What are to do with electrical engineering? What are the must-learn things to graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering?
What are the basic skills to learn these things? I know: Mathematics, Calculus, Physics, Science, but can you list them specifically such as "electric circuit"?
Answer: One important point is that when you take mathematics and science classes, you must learn the entire topic that is presented by your instructor. For example, when you take physics, you must learn thermodynamics, mechanics, atomic theory, as well as electrical circuits.
Do not plan to pick and choose the individual topics within these courses that you will study. If you don't study the entire course material, you will not get good enough grades to graduate.
Question: Is an electrical engineering degree exceptionally useful for someone who aspires to be an electrician? I'm planning to be an electrician but my parents insisted I get some sort of college education, whether it's necessary for the job I choose or not. I'm just wondering if a college (not university) level electrical engineering program is useful to me at all. Will it help me get a higher pay of the bat or anything worth mentioning? It's a 3 year program and I'd get an "advanced diploma" at the end of it which basically means I could use it to get into university to get a degree (which in all likely hood I wouldn't be doing).
Answer: You could look into getting some sort of engineering technician degree, which is usually 2 years. But otherwise, as others have already said, an electrical engineering degree will be overkill and a waste of money if you'd rather be an electrician.
Even if you do go for a degree, I don't think you'll have increased pay. My friend is an electrician (in Canada) and the way it works is that you have a pre-set wage that increases as you move through apprenticeship (it starts around $15/hour for new apprentices and I think it finishes off around $35/hour for master electricians), and since it's all preset, you wouldn't be 'allowed' a pay increase, because it would break union rules.
Question: Can I change my program from electrical to mechanical engineering at Carleton university? Hello, I got accepted in the Electrical engineering program at Carleton University, but I changed my mind and I want now to go for the Mechanical engineering program instead (Fall 2010) so can I change it or no ? and what do I have to do ?
thank you.
Answer: Contact the school for their advice and information./
Question: I have completed Electrical Engineering,is there any another course related to electrical enginering field? After completing Electrical Engineering is there any more course related to electrical engineering ?is this course available in part time.
Answer: Electronic which is different to electrical.
It will help in Computer engineering.
Question: How easy is it to transfer from Electrical Engineering to be an Architect? Hi, I am currently a new grad as an Electrical Engineer from a university here in Canada (BSc Major Elec. Engineering). I was wondering what would be the easiest path of transfer from my current job to become an architect? ie) Do the 4 years of undergrad i have completed carry over in any way? Thank you,
Answer: no, you don't have to start over.
things like calculus, physics and your electives "carry over."
but it isn't going to be an easy transfer.
in general , you need to take about 36+ quarter hours of architecture classes. it won't give you a degree, but since many architectural firms hire electrical engineers, i think you could go to work with an architecture firm before finishing all the courses.
because of the engineering, i am assuming all sorts of coursework in statics and dynamics, calculus, etc.
It is possible that if you go back to the same college, you could just take all the architecture courses, and get another Bachelor's.
friendly warning - at Ga. Tech, architecture is a 5 year program for a Bachelor's degree. and at year 4, they pretty much decide if you have the talent. it is possible to make all As and Bs and be judged to have not enough talent. sounds scary to me.
Don't trust us; email the Architecture school you would like to go to and get a real opinion. Find out your options. If you get the Head of the Architecture Department on your side, as your mentor, this can get a lot easier.
Question: Is it good for an Electrical engineering graduate to shift to software development? I am an Electrical engineering graduate of 2009. I found job in software dev't and i am working on it,
coz i had a little software experience.
But is it worth to leave electrical eng'g for software dev't. I love electrical eng'g very much and i'm afraid of forgetting it through time if i continue on software. Can u give me an advice? Specially EE persons. please ..Thanks.
Answer: There is nothing wrong in working in software development as it gives you solidity at present. If you love electrical engineering so much, be on the look out for a job in your field and quit software when opportunity arises. But till that time continue in software development. If you are employed in whatever capacity, there is credit to it. If you idle at home, after some time, no one would even call you for an interview.
Question: what are all the careers an electrical engineering gradute can take up? I am an electrical engineering graduate working in an Indian state utility companies since two years. I want to change my profession. Can any one suggest which is better for me.
Answer: computers , networking as a speciality .
Question: what are the people like in electrical engineering colleges or university? I am hoping to get into umass Amherst for electrical engineering. I will see what i can get into, and later pick. But are the people like normal or like really big nerds. Also, how many women do it, i wouldn't expect much : /, but lets just say i slept at a dorm, can you still go to parties and hang out with a differen't group easily or would i most likely get dormed up with other EE. Just Wondering, women are everywhere, but would be nice to have great people to chill with!
Answer: One of the things about a university is that you will meet a wide group of people. Dorms are not segregated by major. Also, look for activities that would appeal to those of other majors. You will also meet folks in the liberal arts classes. A fraternity is also a good way to meet people but it requires a time and money commitment from you.
Question: What textbooks for first year of electrical engineering? I would like to self study the books that a first year electrical engineering student would read for interest's sake. What are some of the textbooks that they need, I can borrow a similar textbook from the library.
Answer: Get a course catalog from any engineering school; they tell you what textbooks that they use.
Question: What are some possible jobs to look for before beginning a career in electrical engineering? I am a sophomore in electrical engineering school and am wondering what kind of work experience I can get to help me improve my resume for a future electrical engineering job around Phoenix, AZ. I have about 4 years of retail sales experience if that helps out any. Thank you in advance!
Answer: I worked in radio and TV stations while getting my degree (I had a commercial radiotelephone license, though).
I also spend 1 summer as an intern at a naval shipyard.
Any engineering intern job you can get with a local company (many around Phx) would be ideal.
.
Question: What are some pros and cons for electrical engineering overall? I'm still wondering what type of engineering I want to major into. Right now, I like electrical engineering the best, next would probably aerospace engineering, and my 3rd choice will probably chemical engineering. ^_^;;
Answer: depends on what you are doing there are many sub specialties to Electrical engineering.
Power distribution - somewhat boring to me personally, but nescessary, and more meticulous attention to detail stuff. jobs are somewhat plentiful, but they are construction based, and do involve weekends and holidays for installation work.
Controls engineering - exciting to me personally, you build things that make things move, but the hours are awful, and you get called out in the middle of the night if something doesn't work exactly right. Jobs are wide open in this because of the high stress and rushing
electrical / electronic design - R&D seems to be fun, you could be developing chips or boards, and it's more like the mad scientist/inventor role...but jobs are limited and competitive from my experience.
sales - which is an engineering support function. applications engineers make pretty good specifying and applying product without doing much design, and have fairly good schedules
Question: what are the difficulties in studying electrical engineering? i'm going to a university. and i'm going to take the electrical engineering course. so i'm just wondering what are some of the difficulties in studying electrical engineering? what is the hardest part of it?
Answer: That depends on what your strengths are. Some topics commonly found challenging at the undergraduate level include LTI systems/discrete systems, DSP, electromagnetism/antennas, controls, non-ideal circuit analysis, Fourier/wavelet analysis. If you are not already strong in calculus, linear algebra, ODEs/dynamical systems; these maths may also be challenging.
Question: Will majoring in Electrical Engineering allow me to work in Green Technology? It's obviously the new industry that is rapidly growing with many jobs and opportunities. As an electrical engineer would I be able to go into green tech? Would another engineering field be more applicable, like mechanical? Electrical as far as I'm concerned is circuits, programming, and also the theory behind it. And beyond just working at one of these companies, would I be able to operate as someone important on the business side due to my knowledge of my industry?
Answer: Yeah. also on the note of power generation some schools offer a degree in mechatronics which is like generators. the combo of electrical and machanical basically. just trying to build a basic generator if u do research u will realize there is a lot of math and design specifications that electrical engineering will teach you to understand.
Question: What are the pros and cons of the career of electrical engineering? What are the pros and cons of the career of electrical engineering? and what do I have to do to become one?
Answer: I have several friends who are electrical engineers. The pros are that there is very little unemployment for engineers - any kind of engineers - the pay is good, and most engineering jobs come with good benefits.
The cons are that you can get zapped when you're testing equipment if you set it up wrong. :-) You would probably also work for a salary, which means no overtime when you're expected to work late.
If you want to be an electrical engineer, you have to get a degree in electrical engineering, or at least a two-year certificate. Sometimes if you have the certificate the employer will still hire you, with the expectation that you'll go to night school and finish your degree. Contact your local community college or junior college to see if they have a program. You might be able to get financial aid.
Question: What is a good beginning book in the field of electrical engineering? My son is 15 and interested in electrical engineering and learning more about it so he asked me to get him a beginning book for Christmas. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
Answer: any circuits book that covers ohm's law, thevenin-norton, alternating current, and impedance models should be good.
I liked skilling's book [see the link below]
wow- what a great request. connect him with a tutor or put an ad at the local college or JC for help if he struggles
