Question: I have been invited for the final round assessment for Barclays Capital technology analyst position. Any tips?
Answer: stop bragging about it on Yahoo...lol
Question: If I decided to join the US Army as a Information Technology Specialist or an Intelligence Analyst? I understand in a situation where the base is being attacked or overran we are soldiers first but how often would I have to do "Infantry" like duties if any?
Answer: it all depends on your unit, no unit is the same, it also depends where you are stationed, some bases are more training related, and you will be in the field alot, others you won't see the field at all.
Question: What do you have learn so that you can be a analyst in information technology? Barry
Answer: to become a system anaylst (SA), u have to have experience in programming. usually SA is promoted from senior programmer.
SA need to know about system flow and design, system architecture, methology and system life cycle, and some hardware, networking and licensing knowledge.
in short, SA need to know IT theory, programming and very strong logical thinking
Question: career for a "computer systems technology - systems analyst"? is this a new field? how are the career opportunities
Answer: Well, you have to ask yourself what that job does (and no, it's not a new feild, unless you count that it didn't exist in a major way prior to 1986).
They consult people on how their systems or network configurations are functioning, and then either figure out what is inadequate about the infrastructure of the network or provide input on how to tweak an already well callibrated group of units to work even better.
The career opportunities are high in this expanding information age. However, they will probably be working for small companies looking into expanding into this area for their company, and/or they will be working on a client to client basis that will require them to keep their education up to date. They could also be working with major corporations on a temporary basis to streamline a new process or production environment. The possibilities are expanding and changing so fast, that if you want a new challenge every so often, this is the feild to choose.
Question: What is the best position in the Information Technology field? What is the best job in the Information Technology field (programmer, systems analyst/administrator, network administrator, etc.) and why? What is its annual starting salary?
Answer: This depends upon your interests:
Programmer: You will most likely start out as a code-monkey. Meaning you will sit more than 8 hours each day in front of a monitor writing code that any idiot could write. When you gain some more experience, you will be able to spend more than 8 hours each day in front of a monitor writing code that nobody else could write. You will always be behind schedule, and there will always be 10 times more work waiting for you when you're done, as well as "meetings" and other stuff taking up your time. You're gonna love lunch break as the only social opportunity during the day.
Systems analyst/administrator: You will spend most of the time dealing with clueless customers, clueless programmers, and clueless company executives, each with their own agenda. Your job is to make them understand each other (or at least for you to understand them all, and make yourself understood to all of them). For the right person, this can be a fun combination of technical and managerial skills. It is also well paid. It also usually requires some experience. Companies hiring systems analysts/administrators right from the university probably have no idea what they're doing.
Network administrator: Either you are good at your job, in which case there is nothing to do, and you must fake it so you look busy. Or you are completely inept, and always have a lot of work to do that never goes away. The few times you meet other people, they'll be angry at you for things not working. 8 out of 10 network administrator hate their job so much they have deliberately sabotaged their own company networks at times.
Annual starting salary is dependent upon a lot of things, such as geographical location, level of education, being married to the CEO's daugher, etc... But if you have a degree, you will get reasonable pay in the IT field.
Question: What technology companies are in the areas west of Philadelphia (main line)? I'm a usability analyst & user researcher (internet & software) working in the Silicon Valley of CA. We are considering a move to the Philadelphia main line area (King of Prussia, etc.). What are the technology companies in that area?
Answer: Too many to list. Try the Philadelphia Busines Journal. They have lists of tech companies.
The area along Route 202 (King of Prussia, Malvern, Great Valley, etc) has a lot of tech companies.
Try to get a copy of their Book of Lists.

Question: Computer Support Specialist or Programmer/Analyst or Electronic and Computer engineering technology???!!? Please help which program should i do!?!?!?!? I want to know everything about computers even though i know a lot already. But i want to start my own business retail store and computer sales. ADVICE>>!>!!!!>
Answer: If you plan to sale computers I suggest Computer support specialist. This will give you a better real world understanding of how computers work from the end user perspective.
Programmer/Analyst will teach you how to create software.
Electronic and computer engineering technology is lower level, you'll learn the science of circuit boards and processors etc, but a lot of those guys ( I know several who work for intel) aren't real comfortable with computers, they just know how to make or engineer certain Components.

Question: Technology career opportunities after MBA? I'm a Software Engineer and am exploring the option to pursue MBA with focus on finance and technology. Some career opportunities that interest me are equity research in technology sector, technology analyst positions for research companies etc. What would be other good opportunities for someone with experience in technology and MBA in finance?
Answer: Hi Frodo,
I believe there are a number of great opportunities you can pursue. After graduating with a finance MBA, you may work at an technology or internet company as a controller and be responsible for preparing balance sheets and income statements, or you could work as a financial officer and direct a company's budget and financial goals. An MBA degree will qualify you for positions in government agencies, financial firms, mortgage companies, educational institutions, as well as many public and private companies.
I hope this was of help.

Question: How difficult is it to find Technology-related jobs in Vancouver, BC? I want to move to Vancouver BC next year with my husband who is in Tech field. Currently he is a Setup Configuration Analyst and makes amazing money. How hard would it be for him to find a similar tech position in Vancouver that pays well? Are there a wide array of available tech jobs open? How is the market there for tech jobs? I've already done research with various job posting web sites. If someone who is in tech field or similar and lives and works in Vancouver BC can answer- that'd be great! Of course all advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Question: Where to sell technoogy reports? I am a technology analyst writing technology and market analysis reports. Could you please suggest places on the web to sell these reports? I am planning to sell it as an ebook. Also I would be pleased if you could let me know some tips on promoting the report.
Answer: Let me start with saying that I am not into the technology field.
With that being said...
Here are some ideas on where to sell them:
1. Find technology sites that send out a newsletter. You can either sell it to them for them to use, or offer your reports as free content and have them put your sales blurb at the end of the report.
2. Go to elance.com, and other freelance websites (google it) and find people who are willing to pay and actually looking for your type of reports.
3. Go ahead and put your ebook together so you can get it online and sell it! (Check out clickbank.com to help with this.)
Tips on promoting:
Well, do you want to promote it online or offline? Google both of these terms...
1. creative marketing techniques offline
2. creative marketing techniques online
There are really WAY to many ways to promote stuff to get into it here.
Good luck!

Question: what are the things I need to know for an information technology interview? I am currently applying for jobs and I would like to know what things I should know for that position.
I am applying for an entry level software developer, web developer, analyst position.
On my application I said I knew C#, Java, Html, php,asp.net,sql. You know things of that nature.
What technical things would I need to know for the interview on these topics and other general knowledge questions for an person in my position.
Answer: you need to clear understanding of all this topics ( just a basic fundamentals)
Question: Computer Science or Computer Information Technology Major? I am currently in my second semester of my freshman year.. and I am trying to decide if I want to major in Computer Science or Computer Information Technology. I am not very good at math and have heard that Computer Science Major involves ALOT of math. But I want to be a software programmer or network analyst. So can someone tell me the difference and which would be best for these careers?
Answer: If you want to be a software developer, get a CS degree. Computer science prepares students to be programmers. "Computer Information Technology" is for people who (1) want to be managers in a tech company or (2) want to be network/system administrators.
Try to do internships in software companies while you are getting your degree so that you can get real-world experience prior to graduation.
Question: Does anyone think there is going to be a rally in the technology sector soon? I've heard a lot of analysts say that next week there will be a big run up. The outlook of disappointing earnings next week is already worked into the current price.
Answer: David, a bounce in tech will come , most likely next week. It will be short-lived in my opinion. The economy is slowing kind of fast and technology is not an essential but a luxury in most cases. What do you cut back on when money is getting tight? Most people forego buying big screen tv's, new computers, walkmans, etc, before they cut back on food and medicine. I think this is why tech gets weak first, its non-essential. I expect the NASDAQ to hit 1500 by Halloween, and then a fall/winter rally back to 1800ish.
Question: Having been out of work for over a year how many UI extensions? Like a huge part of this country I've been out of work for over a year, it's impossible to find work in my field as a programmer/analyst, Data Analyst/Info Technology type positions. Needless to say I was earning way beyond 6 figures and once unemployed it turned my world upside down. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the Unemployment process and how many extensions one can have before all money stops. Thanks in advance for your help
Answer: With all the Obama incentive, it's hard to know exactly how many extensions you can file. I know that if you're qualified, the extensions will be files automatically for you, and each time you get a new extension, you get less money within the period of that extension, and after some # of times of having another extension, it eventually stops and you run out of money. So i hope you have a good savings account to cover for your deb/expenses, and whatever else you have the desire for, because I live in the bay are and always work as a programmer/analyst and know first hand how hard it is to get a job. 2 years ago, i was laid off when the company went under and it took 9 months to get a new job. 5 years ago, same thing happened, and it took about a year to get a new job, But it wasn't as bad then as it is now. You just need to be patient, do what that other guy under me said and call everyone you know and ask if they know of any job openings, and if not, do they know anyone who knows people that are looking for work. The basic principle of networking. You really need to network hard each and very day. I know first hand how easy it is to fall into becoming a lazy bum after a while because it happened to me the times I was out of work. You word hard the first few days/weeks whatever, and then you kinda fall into this 'lazy' mode where you're just collecting checks and hoping a job falls and lands on your lap, of course you know that's not the way it works. So you need to network every day, talk to headhunters/recruiters every day and put your name out there, let everyone know you''re looking for work. and worse comes to worse, you may end up having to move away from where you're at now to where the jobs are that fit your profile. Good luck to you and hope you find a job soon.

Answer: Talk to your adviser about what sort of jobs would best fit you and ask them if they know anyone in the field that you could shadow for a couple of days, pick a few jobs from IT and a few from computer science and shadow someone in that field. Then it will help you decide what you like better and what to do. In the mean time find some courses that fit into each program and take those so you won't get too far behind in your studies.

Answer: As you can tell from the two programs they are two seperate tracks of study. Many students often merge the areas of Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, and Information Technology into one heading. You are smart to stop and take a look at what the differences are and which one will provide the greatest impact in your lifelong goals.
With that being said, what you should really decide is what type of role you like the most. The Computer Science is a programming/software development role. The Information Technology track looks to prepare you as more of a generalist from a support perspective.
Personally I have enjoyed working and teaching the "IT" and "support" coursework, however I know many that are satisfied with software development.
As far as job opportunity, growth, success. Pick the path that you enjoy the most. If you pick one over the other for financial reasons, you may never become fully vested in it as your career choice, as such, your financial reward would be limited.

Update in response to email Message: Can you pls add it to your answer which is the best? I wont be able to choose myself which is the better one for me. Thats why I'm asking what's your opinion or suggestion.
: : :
There are plenty of great careers in both tracks. There are ample jobs in almost the entire world for these positions. I've been happy with my decision in IT, I would not have been happy had I pursued CS. You really need to try them both out for yourself and figure which is the better fit.
Question: IT Job - Financial industry or Pharmaceutical.... What is better? Speaking of job secuirty, pay, work load/tension... what is a better industry to work in - for an application developer / technology analyst?
1. Job security
2. Pay (raises, bonuses)
3. Work load / tension
Example:
Morgan Stanley vs Merck
Answer: Hmm. I'd go with Financial services every time.
Pharmaceutical companies are absolutely notorious for hiring and firing, They are very profitable firms, but their growth and profits rely solely upon the success of the drug portfolio they have at any given time.
If a pharma firm have a blockbuster drug they know will make a fortune for 3-4years, they will hire an entire new sales fleet, marketing team and management pool. (This requires new IT people). A year or two later, a competitor scuppers them with a cheaper/better drug, and they lay off half their workforce!!
Check out he histories of Wyeth and GSK for examples!
Financial services firms are much more stable, and tend to pay in the top levels for IT staff. They offer better training and cutting edge technologies too.
Good luck in your job hunt!
Question: Is this enough to become a GIS analyst? I am obtaining a BS degree in Information Technology.
And then I plan on getting a Certificate in GIS (geographic information science)
Will this help me land a gis job?
Thanks for your answers :)
Answer: It will help you get a job, for sure. But, probably not with the title analyst. In most cases, analysts are master's level or higher with a background in geography or related fields and are prepared to analyze the geographic processes that GIS can be used to explain. This path would suit better for jobs in the underlying technical, computing, data management, code writing, and training side of GIS. With that said, smaller agencies that just have a small GIS department where everyone does everything might use the title analyst, and this path would prepare you for a job like that.
Question: I want to know if IT ( Information Technology )/Computer science is good as a carrer ? Hello, I'm 14 years old. I'm professional in computers & IT, all my friends usually calls me for tech support or a computer help. I have some knowledge in HTML and a little in networking. But IT has many divisions I'm confused what to join ? ( for example : Networking, web developing, system analyst, computer engineering etc. ) and by the way does it makes money well ? lol
By the way am at school :p, i am just asking this for my future
Answer: IT is a good field for a career job.
Choose the division the best fits you and go to college for it.
There is.. computer engineering, network admin, web developing, system analyst, windows admin, system, dba linux admin, programmer, database programmer, there is also help desk/support and of course so much more.
It would be best to get a degree in the IT field as jobs will hire you quicker then those without the degree.
My husband is a network admin. He loves his job. I think he makes a decent amount for his salary.
Remember, depending where you live and what company you work for, work experiance and schooling will all depend on your salary.
Question: What is Analyst? What is Associate Analyst-operating infrastructure, systems and technology
Answer: Analyst is a way to describe someone is a support role.
I'm 90% sure this is a technical helpdesk environment.
Question: Which program should I choose, Computer Information Systems or Computer Information Technology? Which concentration should I choose?
CIS offers concentrations in Database Management, Programmer/Analyst, Student Directed Studies, Web Management
CIS Certificates, Database, Java Programming, Visual Programming
Web Management.
And CIT in Computer Security, Network, PC Support & Administration
CIT Certificates Network Administrator, PC Support & Administration, Routing & Switching, Systems Security
I am looking at IVY Tech in Indianapolis
Answer: If you have any aptitude and interest in programming, go with CIS. The relevant jobs for CIS tend to come with higher pay, job satisfaction, and respect than those for CIT.
Question: what computer classes do i need in order to major in computer science? i want to major in computer science or information technology in order to become a computer analyst but my computer knowledge in weak. i was planning to attend some computer classes. so what courses should i take?( database, html,java...) i am in 12th grade
Answer: I also started off with nothing before I took computer science in a college and I did not took and classes prior to that.
The important thing is you really interested in computer science. As person who have strong interest and keen to learn but zero knowlegde in certain subjects can l earn faster than another person who have some knowlegde but little interest and not so keen to learn.
Well it is definitely is a good ideal to attend course if you have spare time and money but it is not necessary as you could also get some good book in the bookshop to giude you.
Question: Having a hard time locking in a job in the information technology field. any advice? I am currently about 2 months out from my discharge from the U.S. Army and I've utilized all the military programs to tweak my resume and enhance my knowledge in regards to interviews. I've met with employers and asked about different job markets.
Most of my experience prior to the military was in the information technology field and it is a field I enjoy working in. I've been applying to jobs with online sites such as career builder. I've also searched for multiple staffing agencies and particular information technology staffing agencies with little response in the past 2-3 weeks. From what my Case Manager at ACAP said I have a solid resume with a lot of diverse experience which should allow me to get a job fairly easy compared to other soldiers on their way out the door with nothing on their resume.
Just curious for those of you in the Information Technology Management or Business Systems Analyst fields what you look for in a new applicant or particularly a resume before you toss it aside and move on to the next. Are the certain things I should be emphasizing rather than others?
I appreciate your time and thoughts. And if anyone knows of companies with openings in their IT/BSA staff feel free to e-mail me lifedefieslogic6 at yahoo dot com
Answer: If you have a security clearance, you will have no problem securing a job
tcw
Question: Are any technology jobs hot right now? If so, which ones? Any software engineers or systems analysts landed a job recently? Thanks!
Answer: Yes! Check out the link below... Information Security Management is in HUGE demand right now. Corporations are spending big money to recruit persons with this particular educational background.
Hope this helps!
Question: What fields of Information technology are in demand now? Like Network systems, systems analysts, etc...
Answer: Are you sure?
IT in demand these days?
It's just the Opposite ...

How about choosing as Best Answer?
Question: Is there someone here in yahoo answer can help me prepare for my job interview tomorrow? Im applying as a Document Analyst in SPI Technologies, I really not that fluent in English and was wondering if there is someone outthere that can practice with me - correct my grammar or have a ready answer for possible questions for my interview tomorrow. Thanks!
Answer: Be confident ,you obviously must have great credentials otherwise they never would have granted you an interview . At all times make direct eye contact , do not drag out answers to questions, and in short let the interviewer know what an asset you will be to their company. I'm sure you will be fine , what most people don't realize is that by being granted the interview your foot is in the door and it is up to you to sell yourself as the logical choice for the position. Best of luck to you :))
Question: does anyone know of any career options for a health administration major/ information technology minor? I will graduate with a Bachelor's of Science from Penn State. I was thinking I could be a data analyst but i'm not sure if that's feasible? if not, what other high paying entry level, it related jobs do you think I could qualify for.
My career advisor and academic advisor were not of any help (both told me to look up monster, career builder, ect-- and those sites were unhelpful!)
Thank you in advance for those who legitimately try to answer my question.
Answer: Congrats on your academic achievements as well as your excellent choice of career. Healthcare/IT is a good combination for the present and near term future. Outlook on these jobs are pretty good, now all you need is a strategy for these great companies to see your potential!
(1) Look at the Health Care Service Providers or Pharmaceuticals companies for Corporate Entry Level opportunities, or if you are a recent grad, use that to seek internships.
(2) Build a good profile on LinkedIn.Com and then create an informational interview format to learn about which industry and opportunity appeals to you from those working where you aspire to. Ask their advise!
(3) HelpingFriendsCareerNetwork.com has several networks for job seekers and those seeking career counseling/network resources!
Question: Network Security Analyst? Planning to study Computer systems technology at Seneca College and then to study a BA of Information Technology. I want to go into Network Security Analyst. Just wondering how much do Network Security Analyst make a year? thanks
Answer: It can vary greatly from ~$50k - $100k+ depending on where and other factors. Of course independents typically make more than employees even considering the overhead costs of being indpendent.
This is based on today's market, which very likely could be completely different by the time you get through with college.
There are a few salary calculators out there that can give better guesstimates based on actual salary surveys.
Question: Information Technology (IT) degrees and courses?? Help!!? What does all of this mean? Whats the difference? What types of jobs can you get with each major? Which are most in demand? Which is the best to major in? And which concentration?
Computer Information Systems:
Database Management
Programmer Analyst
Student Directed Studies
Web Management
Computer Information Technology:
Computer Security
Networking
PC Support and Administration
Student Directed Studies
Answer: CIS is end user administration and management of software.
Database magagement includes updating, backing up, granting users access level (read only, read/write), SQL, it will probably deal with SQL Server, My SQL and ORacle, maybe Access or dBASE. Program anaylst looks at programs or software and advises the company on waht they do, how they work, how easy they are to use. Web management deal with the Web site, Server, Ports, Access level (read, read/write, FTP).
CIT
Deals with the hardware and administration software packages. Firewalls, blocking sites, access levels to the Intranet and Internet, Networking, File Servers, Print Servers, Routers, Cisco sytems, PC Support and Administration is help desk and higher level help and fixing problems with end user nodes.
These prepair you for an entry level job. CIS is more a front office administration job that is probably easier to find work in.
CIT is back end support and there you are dealing with people who have been in IT for 20 years, have a Masters Degree, know all the suppliers, know all the hardware.
Entry level there could be the general help desk.
Question: system analyst requirement? i have been researching about being a system analyst, and the qualifications i see is either a bs degree holder of mis, com sci and any technical related field. my question is, what do you mean by "any technical related field." what are the degrees? is information technology a related technical field?
Answer: It depends on what type of system you want to analyze. You can do Electrical, Mechanical, or Aeronautical Engineering. You can be a physicist, programmer, etc. Look at the job description. Not all System Analysts are the same.
Question: What do you look for when buying a stock. I am not sure how to determine a strong buy vs a bad buy? When I purchase stocks, I simply go with what analyst pick because I am not sure what I should be looking at. I have been pretty lucky so far, but I make profit very very slowly. For example, I purchased a stock in a company called Xethanol (XNL). At one point, this stock shot up about 3 times what I paid ($16) but now the stock is worth less than a dollar. Why is this a bad choice, I like the companies product and technology but it appears they are loosing money. Can anyone help, Thank You
Answer: I looked at the data on XNL and I didn't see much to make me want this stock.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s=XNL
There is a lot of info here, but a couple of things to notice are, first, that the market capitalization (the price of all the outstanding stock combined) is three times higher than the enterprise value (the value of the material assets of the company). This means that even at it's price of under $1, the stock is still overpriced relative to what the company actually has in terms of assets. This might be acceptable for a company with great growth potential, but again I'm not sure that's realistic for this company. The profit and operating margins are terrible, and this company is bleeding cash. Look at how badly it compares to its competitors.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/co?s=XNL
These are some of the things you should look at when deciding what to invest in. But beyond that, take analyst advice with a grain of salt and never, NEVER, become so married to a position that you let a 300% gain turn into a 90% loss!
You say you like the company's product and technology, but have you really researched how good this technology is compared with other products? Have you considered carefully the realistic prospects for this technology within the next several years. Don't make investment choices based on your personal like or dislike of the company, but rather on the cold, hard financial facts about the company. And then implement money management and risk management techniques to ensure you don't let your losers become a major setback. You have to let go of losing positions more quickly.

Question: I'm considering pursuing a career in computers, but how can I choose what sort of job to aim for? In the past, I have seemed to have a slight natural aptitude for working with computers and technology, and so I have considered working with computers as a possible job future. But how can I decide what kind of 'computers' job is best for me? Animation, engineering, internet, forsenics, programming, systems analyst... there seem to be literally HUNDREDS of possible career choices involving computers and technology. How can I choose which one I want?
Answer: computer jobs change rapidly. some of those jobs may not exist in a few years. you need your education to be as wide ranging as possible so that you have as many skills as possible when you are looking for full time work. you need to specialize in either hardware (physical equipment) or software (programs) and beyond that learn as many specific skills that you can that are in demand. concentrate on the newer more popular technology.
after you get a full time job in your field it will be your responsibility to keep up with the latest technology so your job skills do not become obsolete.
