Question: Help with career choices? Ok, so I'm almost 16 years old, and I'll be going to grade 11 soon, and I need to figure what career I'm going to choose. Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea of what jobs are out there and what they're like, etc.
I did a career test on Princeton Review. These are the options I got, according to my personality, abilities, etc. If one of these happens to be your career, can you please tell me what your job involves and what you think someone would have to be good at in order to do it well. Thanks so much (in advance)

Answer: I have been having the same problem trying to spruce up my resume. I was researching resume writing services but they are all so expensive. Anyway, one that I came across offered free evaluations. I sent mine in, and last night, they sent me a few helpful suggestions. I can't afford to pay the fee for the entire service, so I just made changes based on the free help they provided, lol. email them writers@resumesguaranteed.com with your resume attached. good luck!

Answer: First of all, I would change the ordering of your topics. Most people recommend this order: 1. education (include GPA if >3.5) 2. experiences 3. skills (as a summary and lingering thought for reader)
Next, I would try to add more quantitation to your job descriptions. For example, "Tested over 100 raw material samples using FTIR analysis, identification testing, and thin layer chromatography."
Also, try to make what you have done seem important to the company/research lab. For example: "efficiently cleaned and maintained delicate laboratory equipment used by 30+ labmates." Or "maintained order and efficiency of lab by Labeling and organizing chemical reagents as well as creating a digital inventory." This way, employers can see that you can contribute to their companies.
Hope this helps to start!

Question: Graphics card not working? Video Card? Anything -- please help? Basically got back my laptop (HP Pavillion dv2000) from technicians today about an hour ago -- it runs on legit Home Premium (confirmed by running "winver" which isn't running the Flip 3D I used before it broke (it was dropped and needed HD replacement) I've tried Personalize > Windows Color and Appearance and it doesn't have the flip 3D one just Windows Classic and Basic themes (aswell as the High Contrast ones) ... could the dropping of my laptop have caused other problems not found by the technicians and passed its "Quality Assurance Checks" Also, just by chance, clicked on Windows DVD maker and it started up and says "Video card doesn't meet minimum requirements" - there was no problem prior to this... any suggestions or should I ring them up and enquire??? All immensly answers appreciated.
Its sorted now thankyou very much ^_^ ... just some softpedia download and its fixed without the techhy's help -- it'd save me another whole week right on to installing & putting everything on here now
Answer: Sounds like you're missing video drivers.. Give those techs a call back and have them fix these issues for you for free. They're not doing their job. That laptop should be check out from top to bottom before I would give it back to a client or customer.

Now i will be adding my job experience that's related to an electronics job..
this is the one..
1 ) Used multi–meters , DVMs, digital oscilloscope, spectrum analyzers and function generator to test digital and analog circuits and to complete job tasks.
2) Used common software applications such as MS Word and MS Excel MS Power Point to produce reports and graphs required to complete job tasks.
3 ) Achieved proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical, optical and electrical specifications using drawings and manuals
How do I incorporate this into the cover letter that I already have so that "this job experience" which is More related to the entry level electrical engineering job i want , Will pop out of my resume ..
please help . I really want to apply for this entry level position near my town,so that I can move out into my own apartment , but no clue what to write in my Cover Letter. Thank you .
Answer: I'm not familiar with your field of expertise but I've written my share of resumes and cover letters so I'll offer a suggestion. Include a paragraph where you state in your own words something to the effect of "having a personal philosophy where you believe in earning your knowledge from the ground up so that you are able to understand the business from all aspects." There is an old saying in business that "only the cream and the bastards rise to the top" and right now you want to show them you're the cream. (Of course if they want bastards you may wish to reconsider if this is a company you want to work for) As you form the paragraph stating you are willing to work from the ground up you may want to say something about the benefits of seeing things through the eyes of others as well as the customers who deal with people on different levels. (If that applies in this case. I don't know how the company works so I'm just throwing out suggestions. If you choose to go with that line of thinking tailor it to fit the way the business operates.) Between the skills you already possess and what you would learn as you climb the corporate ladder "the potential is there for you to become a valuable asset to the company and you are certain by working together you can contribute to the company's continued health and gowth." Okay.... one more thing and remember this as you go through the business world. A corporation is like a tree full of monkeys. The monkeys at the top look down and see lots of smiling faces. The monkeys at the bottom look up and see nothing but a$$holes. Best of luck to you.
Question: How do i get the low end and high end confidence intervals for this problem? A quality Assurance technician tested 10 samples of a plastic to determine the crystallinity index. She calculated that the mean of the sample was 6.1 with a sample standard deviation of 0.5. Find a 95% confidence interval for the mean crystallinity of all of the plastic.
Answer: ANSWER: 95% Resulting Confidence Interval for 'true mean': = [5.74, 6.46]
Why???
SMALL SAMPLE, CONFIDENCE INTERVAL, NORMAL POPULATION DISTRIBUTION
x-bar = Sample mean 6.1
s = Sample standard deviation0.5
n = Number of samples 10
df = degrees of freedom 9
significant digits2
Confidence Level95
"Look-up" Table 't-critical value'2.26
Look-up Table of t critical values for confidence and prediction intervals. Central two-side area = 95%
with df = 9. Another Look-up method is to utilize Microsoft Excel function:
TINV(probability,degrees_freedom) Returns the inverse of the Student's t-distribution
95% Resulting Confidence Interval for 'true mean':
x-bar +/- ('t critical value') * s/SQRT(n)= 6.1 +/- 2.26 * 0.5/SQRT(10) = [5.74, 6.46]

Question: Can you help me with my Cover Letter ?? Dear Yahoos,
Can you please give me an opinion on my cover letter ? I'm trying to look for an entry level engineering job. Please let me know if there is anything I can tweek to improve my Cover letter Status .
--------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mr.Joseph,
It was with great interest that I read your advertisement for the position of " POSITION" . I believe that my qualifications and experience match your requirements, and I am confident that I can add to your continued success and growth.
My professional office skills and strengths are complemented by a positive , can-do attitude, excellent listening skills , and my commitement to quality and accuracy.
My extensive experience working as a Customer Service technician at E-Z Pass center in New York, has helped me learn analytical and quality assurance skills for E-Z Pass tag products and also has helped me with improving my organizational and multi-tasking skills.
Enclosed is a copy of my resume that details my academic qualifications and practical experience gained through the cooperative education program. As you can see from my resume, I have a firm foundation in electrical engineering.
My resume is enclosed to provide you with additional details concerning my background and qualifications . Thank you for your time and consideration. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can answer any questions and perhaps we could arrange a meeting to discuss how I could contribute to your organization.
Sincerely,
David Raymond
Answer: OK, first things first: you spelled "commitment" wrong and in the second paragraph, after "positive" and "skills", you have an unecessary space. So, before you start anything, make sure you have written with correct spelling and grammar.
Second: everything you've written is fairly generic and fluffy. Example: "can-do attitude, excellent listening skills." You talk about how you are "confident that I can add to your continued success and growth" but you don't really say how. And your interest in the position should be a given, since you are applying for it. You don't need to say so, though you did well to list the position that you are applying for and where you found it.
So, my advice is this: start from scratch. In your first paragraph, write what job you are applying for and where you found it. Write perhaps why you are interested in this position and start to say how you will fit well in it.
In your next paragraph you want to take the work experience and knowledge you have listed on your resume and apply it to the expectations they have for the position. Explain how your knowledge and abilities can meet their needs.
In your third paragraph, you can talk about awards or achievements you have made and even a little more about yourself. Don't stray too far though. Also, be sure to reference information you've learned while researching the company and address specific requirements they have listed in their job posting.
Finally, you want to wrap up on a positive note and encourage them to contact you. Remember, don't generalize too much or it will seem as though you've sent them a generic cover letter and have done no research on their company.
Good luck!
Question: Can I bend a title and time , in my resume to sound good in my 'cover letter' ? ok here's the situation .
I worked at E-Z Pass from this March till July ( 5 months ) .
I graduated last year with a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering degree. And I am looking for a job as an entry level electrical or computer engineer or atleast a Technical Job.
But unfortunately I am weak in the dreaded "Previous experience category " - my experience with E-Z pass was actually Customer Service Representating .
Is there anyway that I can bend this position title and Time period like the following "which will make it sound more Technical than "Customer Service" and make my 5 month exp . sound like " close to a year's worth " ?
here's what i have so far
------------------
I have close to a year's worth of experience working as a Customer Service technician at E-Z Pass center in New York, where I performed analytical checks and quality assurance procedures for E-Z Pass tag products.
-----------------
I would really appreciate any help
Thanks.
Answer: If they check with your previous employer, they will likely provide your real title and service dates. I would not "bend" them as you say.
What I would to is gear the description of what you do in the best light. Not lies, but focusing on the aspects of the job that you feel were most important.

Answer: Your letter first of all needs spell-checking as I see some typos. ex. commitement
Secondly if you want to secure an entry level engineering job you should mention something specific about your electrical engineering skills prior to the Customer Service Technician which can then be a supporting skill set.
Third your final paragraph if I read it correctly should be reworded to suggest that you will ring to arrange a discussion if that is acceptable to them.
Take a look at this site where you can lots of cover letter ideas:

Answer: There is nothing wrong with customer service tech, the title itself sounds technical you may however described your work in any way you can but do not change the title, employers normally check your position title from your previous work but not the job description. Regarding the time frame, you should not touch it just leave it as is.
