Question: project manager? hi. someone told me that i "have project manager written all over you". i was just wondering, what exactly, other than "managing projects" (lol) would a project manager do?
Thank you in advance!
Answer: Of late any assignment assigned to a person to treat that specific work as 'project' work.
the result should be as expected by the management by your management within your team for the successful outcome.
In most of the time managing the work will be easy than managing the people to get a fruitful result.
Question: Why the construction project manager requires 10 years of working experience? Off course every high rise building or skyscraper, you will be stress out almost 2 years. Which means 5 projects you will be handled, that I am able to be a project engineer. I am being prospect to become construction project manager of a company.
Answer: project manager is a person who will fully in-charge in the construction. they need to know everything regarding the costruction flow. therefor they have to be a person who have more working experience.
Question: How should i go about becoming a project manager and what experience is required? I have just finished my Computer Science degree and also have 4 years experience in retail. What is the best way or path to actually being able to be hired as a project manager.
Answer: Hi
There are many types of Project Manager - as many as there are types of Project. You can go ahead and work towrds a Project Management qualification - but I would say don't wait til you've got one before you apply for a job. (It's quite often enough to put on your CV that you're studying for a qualification before you actually get one).
Set your sights realistically. Don't think you cam walk into manage a high visability project with a multi-million budget straight away. But when you see a job - apply for it. Know how to define a Project and understand what a Project Manager does - then most importantly - take your life experience, organisational skills and enthusiasm into the interview with you.
Good luck

Question: What is the translation of "home-schooled" and "project manager"in French? I'm doing a project for my French class and I'm trying to say that my little sister is being home-schooled and that my mom is a project manager. I was wondering if just une femme d'affaires would work for project manager since it's sort of like a businesswoman. Thanks for any help in advance!
Answer: First one I would say:
Scolarisée à la maison.
Project manager:
Chef de projet.
Question: does being a project manager for a computer company entail alot of responsability? My boyfriend is a project manager for a computer company. Somedays he is too busy to answer my emails, could his job be that hectic?
Answer: as he should be, if you have no idea then let me tell you, he has a huge responsibility in his hands, if the project goes down the tubes, so does his job, so it's good that he is busy. probably what he wants from you is some peace, love, and a good dinner, haha, oh and a foot rub
Question: Do you possibly need some sort of aptitude test for your project manager ? The artifacts, deliverables, supplied to the system integrator would need to offer "controllabilty" and "steerability".
They need to allow freedom to the project manager.
Therefore a project manager has the freedom should they so choose to foul up the project beyond all recognition.
For example there might be furious doctoring of set to work documentation, user manuals, test documents, code, instead of following procedures and simply redlining user manuals and test documents.
So you possibly need some sort of aptitude test for your project manager.
To dave
Thanks. Terrific.
Answer: First, let me say I'm an SOA Architect, Integration Designer, Legacy Domain Lead & some time PM.
Rule # 1 - the project manager makes the final decision. You get to provide your professional opinion & if the PM doesn't take it, it's their problem. Emails are great for CYA in this case.
Next understand your PM may have some in depth experience - but he has to oversee 6-8 skillsets. That can be VERY difficult. So, if the PM doesn't make the decision YOU want, it might be because YOU weren't convincing enough.
In the end, the PM is always unappreciated by many - but they have overall responsibility for just about anything - it's a tough job.
Question: What courses should I attended as a online project manager? The courses would have to be internationaly recognised as I will be going back to Australia and continue being a project manager. I know that I should do Prince 2 and Agile, any other suggestions?
Answer: no, you have a good handle on things right now. Just relax and the offer will come.
Question: How easy would it be to be a project manager? I am building a new house and want things in such a way that it's really impossible to go through a building company with ready-made plans.
How easy would it be to become a project manager without any experience? Would this be considered "Owner Builder"? I don't need to attend a course on that in this state, and I'm trying to do as much research as possible. Any advice?
Answer: I've seen quite a few people try this over the years and some do very well, but most fail badly and make it a much harder experience than it has to be.
If you do decide to run with this idea, there's quite a few books out there that include scheduling methods/tips and checklists. Here's a few on Amazon you can check out.
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=be+your+own+general+contractor
I would suggest that a better route for you might be to work through a small project management firm. Most areas have a small firm of less than 5 people that will provide management services. They also usually have contacts with some of the local designers (architectural type) and can help you out with good custom plans at a reasonable price. Another positive of working with the right manager is that they will know which subs will provide a higher quality work (and which do crappy work). The trick is that every area has a few of these guys around, but sometimes they're a little harder to find. Ask around at the lumber yards and check out any local builer's shows in your area to track them down.
Give me a shout if you need more info.
Good Luck.
Question: What are the alternative career paths for a project manager? Hello,
I am a prince2 qualified project manager with 5 years experience in the market research and digital publishing industries. I am looking at exploring other career paths but am not really sure of where to start.
Any suggestions would be great.
Answer: I was a project manager for about four years, and the think I notice most was that the client often had his head up his butt. I was constantly trying to accommodate changes and delays into the schedule without changing the end date.
Since project management is 90% planning, I got into Strategic planning. I now work on the front end of a project (before it is even a project) to make sure all the bases are covered and the clients' expectations are met.
Being in market research, a good place to start would be to design the research rather than conduct it.
Good Luck

During the last 3 years, I have worked to get a master at marketing but while working at the same time. The result is I had a job offer to project manage with my company in Beijing. It's really a great opportunity as I started with the company two years ago at entry level. However my university won't defer my thesis any longer and wants it by the years end. Should I reject the job or the masters?
Answer: Talk to the job offering company and sort it out. Usually they can wait. I'd say the degree really matters. Even if they cannot save the job for you, I'm sure you can find another job with your fine degree, especially in Beijing.
