Question: Chemical engineering? I am a freshman about to start pursuing a degree in chemical engineering at the University of Kentucky. I was just wanting to know some tips to doing well and what to expect as i begin coursework! Any answers will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Answer: it will be more challenging than you ever imagined. You will need to be very determined to succeed. If you are that determined, it will be very rewarding.
You will have to forget about the "fun" of college life that most of your friends will be "enjoying". That doesn't mean you can't have any fun, but you will have to learn to manage your time and life - and you will be ahead of the curve because you did it.
Don't ever get behind in your homework or studies. That stuff must come first (except, perhaps a job to earn money to pay for college). If you get your priorities wrong, you will end up changing majors.
Unless, of course, you are a freak of nature who passes every class without effort. it seems that every graduating class has someone like that in it. I have a friend who had always been #1 in his class, then got into chem eng and found that EVERYONE in the class was #1, and he wasn't special anymore (he really buckled under and still finished #1 in his chem eng grad class). For me, it was a lot of work, and I don't look back on it with fondness, but it has been awesomely rewarding.
Question: chemical engineering? I am half way through my chemical engineering degree and not sure what can chemical engineering can take me to.
I am not sure what does chemical engineer really do.
What is the most well paying chemical engineering job?
Does New Zealand have a good future for chemical engineer?
I am interested on Health Science more than Chemical engineering. Is it too late if I finish my degree in engineering then go to medical school? or is there any better suggestion?
Thank you
Answer: You have a lot of options as a chemical engineer. At my school chem E's have the option to specialize in a biomedical track if that's what you're interested in.
If you're interested in medical school you should look into it. There is no reason you can't go that path.
I know many chemical engineers who work in biotech companies. I'm not sure how the biotech industry is in New Zealand, but I'm sure if you can't find anything there, Australia has a decent biotech industry.
You can also do chemical engineering research at a university and work on things like... synthetic tissue or something (I'm not a chemical engineer, but there are many many options).
As for high paying chem e jobs, most are probably in the petroleum / oil industry. But every manufacturing process needs chemical engineers to help design as well.
There may be some helpful information for people in your position on this forum (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/). They have a subforum for chemical engineers where you can discuss questions like this, so you might want to check it out.
Question: What chemical engineer need to study after first year of engineering? I heard that in chemical engineering there is no deep chemistry involved but rather chemical engineering is a combination of different things.
In petroleum what do you need to study?
Answer: Yes there is deep chemistry involved in getting the diploma of a Chemical Engineer and in the career itself. Where I am taking Chemical Engineering, it is required to take all the way up to Polymer Chemistry and sometimes beyond that, which is high level stuff. (Not to mention all the classes to take before Polymer Chem)
If you want to go into petroleum, then the materials side, instead of the bio-chem side, of Chemical Engineering is what you would want to take. This requires Polymer Chemistry, mentioned above, and several materials engineering classes on top of the regular requirements of a Chem-E. The knowledge of the elements and how they react with each other is vitally important to making anything.
However, this question should really be asked to your adviser. It's different based on school and program.
Question: What chemical engineering elective should I take? I am a junior chemical engineering student and I have one engineering elective to pick. The two choices are Unit Operations Lab II (I am already going to take Unit Ops I) or Applied Math for Chemical Engineering. I don't have room to take both.
Which one should I pick? Why? Which is more useful?
Answer: Both electives are important but you should weight which one is your priority? take the course outline of unit ops 2 and applied math and weigh according to importance, if you are in doubt seek the help of the seniors and the your teachers, ask them. But the final decision is yours to take.
Question: What is the amount of chemistry in the chemical engineering course? I have applied for chemical engineering as my course in several universities. I am very interested in chemistry but I have heard that chemistry is very light in chemical engineering. Is that true? I mean, how light is "light"? Can someone give me a brief overview of the chemistry topics covered in the course?
Answer: Chemical Engineering is a degree. Actually chemical engineering students have to take quite a bit of chemistry. The field of chemical engineering deals on how to design chemical plants to produce chemicals. Thus, a chemical engineer has to understand chemistry in order to design a chemical plant that is capable of producing tons of chemicals. Chemistry in the large scale is quite different than chemistry in small scale, since reactions, when a product is formed and if the reaction releases heat, the more product that is formed, the more heat is going to be released. Thus, a chemical engineer has to understand the process chemically and design a plant capable of dissipating all that heat without causing a fire, an explosion, etc. I teach chemistry in a University and I get quite a bit of Chemical Engineers in my chemistry classes. In my opinion, a good chemical engineer is one that has taken quite a bit of chemistry, so he/she can talk to the chemists in a plant and understand how to scale up an important chemical process. So, if you are taking a chemical engineering course, the problems will be approached from the engineering point of view, but you would have taken several chemistry courses before that, so the chemistry is understood and applied to an engineering problem. Hope this helps.
Question: What kind of jobs can Chemical or Chemical engineering majors provide? What are the list of jobs that person, having a Chemical or Chemical engineering major can find?
I mean after getting a degree.
Answer: First it should be noted that Chemical engineers & Chemist do different things.
Generally Chemists do lab work (aka Beaker Chemistry). This involves trying to make new chemicals or break things down or even purify solutions ect..
A Chemical Engineer's work is more about 'processes' and involves creating the whole system for making chemicals or what ever (The production line). Often trying to optimize a process and make use of/reduce waste ect.
Chemical Engineers usually make much more money as well. ( A masters in Chemical Engineering has the highest starting salary of any engineer, 73,000)
Although, while enrolled in a advanced engineering program most of the time you will be doing 'beaker chemistry'.
I received my undergraduate degree in Chemistry and now am working on a masters in Chemical Engineering.
Hope it helps
Question: What are the differences in the Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering majors? What are the differences in the Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering majors?
Specifically:
What are the differences in coursework?
Which field is easier to get a job in with a B.S.? M.S.?
Is one considered easier than another?
Anything else you find important to talk about?
Answer: Mechanical engineering is 80% applied physics. As to which is harder, it depends on the individual. What do you find easier to understand, mechanical or chemical concepts? Much of the chemical engineering employment is in or related to the petroleum industries. So when oil prices and profits soar so do the careers of good Chem E.'s However when prices and profits fall some Chem E.'s get down-sized and jobs become very difficult to find. I knew one that at such a time decided to become a professional photographer instead and another that decided to change and runs a very successful athletic shoe store that he started. Mechanical engineers also face employment peaks and valleys but because they are more diversified through many industries the peaks are not as high and the valleys are not as low.
As far as which major earns more, it varies depending on which year's statistics you use and which industries are included in the study.
I think 90% of the decision should be based on what you could enjoy doing for the next 40 to 50 years.
Question: What is the best undergraduate school for Chemical Engineering worldwide? In a year's time, I am going to college. My first choice for a degree is Chemical Engineering. But can you help what is the best school that could offer me the course in terms of the teaching staff, the environment and the financial support?
Answer: UC Berkeley, Univ of Illinois at Urbana, Georgia Tech, Stanford, MIT, CalTech, Georgia Tech are all top schools in Chem E. Anyone one of the top 5 (some are tied) will get you where you want to go.
Question: Is chemical engineering a good degree to get ? Does it have a scope in the future ? I am deciding to get into chemical engineering in college. Do you think its the right choice to make ?
Answer: Chemical engineering is a very good degree to get. Graduates can take positions as process, chemical, nuclear, and environmental engineers. Get you MS or PhD and you will probably work in R&D for a large processing company.
Chemical engineering in general is one of the harder engineering disciplines to complete based on the coursework you are required to complete. Many corporations require a GPA of 3.0 to be considered for work coming out of college. From what I have seen through perusing job ads is the other engineering disciplines don't normally have such strict requirements.
Its the right choice to make if you feel that you will be very good at what you do. If 5-6 semesters of chemistry, mass and energy balances, fluid mechanics, unit operations, process control and separations interest you, and you excel at this coursework then you have found your calling.
Question: Is it realistic to get a degree in chemical engineering inorder to break into the cosmetic industry? That is the only thing i would want to do with a chemical engineering degree. Would it be a waste to major in chemical engineering if i only want to work with cosmetics ?
Answer: It's mainly chemist that create cosmetics so you will probably be better off getting a degree is chemistry with an emphasis on organic chemistry. It was a chemist who created the original ten lipsticks for Bobbi Brown. Good luck
Question: How do I prepare for my chemical engineering classes? What advice would you suggest to a transfer student who wants to get into chemical engineering. I'm thinking about majoring in Chemical Engineering, but I need some personal input from you guys.
Any advice will do.
Answer: Personal Chemistry
Take lots of drugs.

Do you like Chemistry ?? What area ? Organic ?
Find your passion, and head for that passionately !
Question: Someone with a chemical engineering degree and profession willing to do an interview? I'm David, a senior in high school, and for my engineering class we need to do an interview with someone in the field of study we are interested in, mine being chemical engineering.
I was hoping someone on here would fulfill those requirements and we could set up an interview on the phone or e-mail or whatever works. It'd be stuff about your job, education, advice for future engineers, pretty basic stuff like that.
I'd greatly appreciate it!
Answer: Hi David! Could you pls add some more info on your query? I m basically a chemical & ELectrochemical engineer working in Dupont
Question: What can I do with a chemical engineering degree? If I graduate i wil have a bs in chemical engineering and a ba in chemistry. Still debating if i should pursue engineering. What type of job will get?
Answer: their are so many different fields, SO MANY, you will make bank as Chem E are the highest paid major.
Question: What kind of jobs can you do following a degree in chemistry and chemical engineering? I'm having a bit of a dilemma choosing what degree to do at university; i'm primarily torn between chemistry (possibly with physics) and chemical engineering, the big decider is the jobs and careers i can go into following it.
Obviously with chemical engineering, you can be a chemical engineer; but what does this entail and what is the sort of pay you'd expect?
Also what careers can you go into with chemistry and how are they different to chemical engineering, and what is the typical pay in these?
I'd like a career revolving around chemistry with a good pay and reputation...
Thanks everyone :)
Answer: i'm sort of in the same boat- im a chemistry major and i'm not sure what i'm going to do after undergrad..
one thing to consider is law school.. if you have a degree in either a science or engineering you can go to law school and eventually become a patent lawyer which is a great job that is in demand due to the requirement that you have a prior degree in science or engineering- that's not something many people can say they have.. but it has a great reputation and salaries start well above $100,000 a year
otherwise with the chem degree you really need to go to graduate school and get at least your masters, if not your phd in order to work in a lab doing research and stuff along those lines.. chances are you would end up working for a pharmaceutical company or something like that making fairly decent money with a lot of opportunity to move up in position and make more
Question: How to get onto a chemical engineering course? Apart from the obvious, how can I improve my chances of gaining a place on a chemical engineering course?
Answer: first of all, interest and your dream as a chemical engineer
followed by study... study... and study until you graduate and pass the chemical engineering board exam
God bless!
Question: How would Masters in Chemical Engineering help after receiving PharmD? I'm a pre-pharm student. I've heard people talk about getting Masters in Chemical Engineering after PharmD or get bachelor's in chemical engineering and then get pharmD. How are pharmd and chemical engineering related? If anything, in my opinion, it would be more helpful to go for masters in chemistry or biochem after pharmd or vice versa.
Ps: How much do pharmacists at local drug stores (savon, vons, rite-aid etc) get paid? and who are the highest paid pharmacist?
Answer: Chemical Engineering and PharmD are related in that the "background" courses are similar, so that a student can fulfill pre-pharmacy courses while studying in a Chemical Engineering Major. If (as often happens) the students can't get into Pharmacy School, Chemical Engineering is a good well-paying alternative. (BioProcess Engineering is also good).
I don't think a Master's in Chemical Engineering is useful after a PharmD, but a Master's in Pharmaceutical Engineering would be good if the student wants to be involved with pharmaceutical manufacturing.
Question: Is it possible to do Chemical Engineering without physics as a subject? I need to know if it is possible to do Chemical Engineering without physics as a subject. Which universities offer the course?
Answer: no. you can probably forget any kind of engineering without physics. sorry.
Question: How is chemical engineering course in Temasek Polytechnic school in Singapore? Are you from Singapore? How is the "Diploma in Chemical Engineering" course in Temasek Polytechnic school in Singapore?
Please describe the plus and the minus points of joining this course in as much detail as you can.
____________.
Answer: Yes. Poly standards in Singapore are pretty good.
Pros: Good education, great practical sessions,
Cons: Jobs, career
The problem with Diploma is your starting pay is not going to be high. If it's 2K then that's considered good. Also once you get in you need to work much longer to get in to a higher position. Typically in O&G sector it takes 10 years+ to have managerial roles. so it's up to you..
Question: How difficult is it to obtain a degree in Chemical Engineering? I was undecided on what degree I should work towards in college. I chose my college and then went through all their degree programs and picked. I just want to know if it is difficult it is to get a degree in chemical engineering, and advice.
Answer: It's possible. Engineering programs differ substantially based on what school you actually go to. I'm not done yet, but so far, it's pretty difficult, but also really interesting. People around campus have told me Chem-E is one of the hardest majors at this school, and so far it's not that bad, However, I also like thermo. and fluids problems, which are what a lot of people hate. You'll probably be in for at least a bit of a challenge though.
Question: What are the best universities for Chemical Engineering? What are the best universities in the US/UK for chemical engineering? Just wanted to know coz after viewing some universities which are high ranking (globally), they are found to be rather low ranking when it comes to chemical engineering. A little help?
Answer: you're right cuz even Harvard is kinda low at chemical engineering.
Well-known schools in the U.S are M.I.T, U.C Berkeley, Caltech, Georgia Tech, Stanford, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and etc.
I heard going to good schools doesn't necessarily make you a good chemical engineer. Make sure you do enough research by visiting their websites or calling them before you make your decision.
Question: What is the closest major to chemical engineering ( for double major ) ? i want to get a double major in chemical engineering and in the closest major to it ,, and can you also tell me the best 10 colleges for chemical engineering ??
thank you !
Answer: It depends on the school, but at my alma mater (Montana State University) we had to take 3 full years of chemistry (basic, organic, physical) plus a full year of "chemistry electives" such as analytical chemistry or inorganic chemistry. So a chemistry degree wouldn't be too terribly difficult to pick up along with a ChE degree. A lot of your electives and core work will be the same, so that's your best bet.
Regarding top ten schools, well, that's all subjective. Here's MY list, based purely on personal experience.
1) UT Austin
2) Stanford
3) Oregon State
4) Montana State (no kidding. Check their stats, MSU is a great ChE school!)
5) UC Davis
6) University of Delaware
7) Washington State
8) Purdue
9) Cornell
10) Arizona State
Once again, this is based on my own personal experience! I've never known any MIT ChE grads, so while they might be the greatest chemical engineers ever I've never known one. The schools I have listed give a GREAT undergrad education, and a great undergrad experience. Good luck.
Question: What kind of laptop should I get if I am going to major in chemical engineering? I am planning on going to college and majoring in chemical engineering. With that obviously comes the task of buying a laptop. I really enjoy Macs and I have semi-adjusted to their different programs because my brother has one. I do however cringe a little bit at the prices. But I am really just wondering what kind of specs the laptop should meet and if you prefer a Mac vs a PC (for chemical engineering).
Answer: www.dell.com
Inspiron 15

Question: What is the best University for Undergrad Chemical Engineering and Electrical Engineering? This is my list of tentative universities to apply to.
UC Berkeley
University of Texas - Austin
University of Michigan - Ann Arbor
University of Illinois - Urbana Champagne
UCLA
UC Irvine
UC Davis
What is the best for chemical engineering and electrical engineering? Any other ideas? I live in California by the way, so I don't want to travel out of state unless its a really good college.
Answer: UCSD is indeed an excellent engineering school. As for other schools, Cal Poly was recently ranked #1 for the second year in a row for engineering schools who offer a bachelors and masters (but not a PhD). Lastly, you should go ahead and add Stanford to your list as well.
In the end, any of the schools you listed will give you a world class education that will open many doors for you.
Good luck
Question: What are the job prospects for someone whose done phd after chemical engineering? What kind of jobs can one do and what is the salary?
Also is it more profitable to do MBA after chemical engineering?
Answer: Pfizer is always looking for people you can do anything with chemical engineering from paint tires medicine synthetics oil company's most PhD are 6 Figures jobs some quarter million a year
Question: What types of small businesses can be started in chemical engineering? It seems more difficult to start a small business in chemical then other disciplines such as civil and mechanical. I think this because in civil you could build warehouses and Butler type buildings and in mechanical you could offer HVAC and piping designs to many diverse clients. Air pollution control in chemical engineering seems too difficult because big firms with huge reference lists handle these situations that are high risk to plant owners. I just want to know what types of small businesses can be started, and if these businesses are realistic entrepreneurial endeavors? In addition, is the client base for these businesses mostly in the U.S.A. or abroad?
Answer: Small Scale in Chemical Industries are
Making of
Soaps and Detergents
Vegetable Oil Distillery or Refinery Small scale
Flyash Brick plant
Coal tar Protective Coatings Like Enamel and Tape and Roofing Tar and Dehydrated tar Small to medium type
etc.,
Question: Is it possible to Finish a Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Double major in 4 years? I want to major in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, then go on to Medical School. So can It be done?
Answer: same prob email me when u get a usful answer
Question: What is the difference between going for a degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering? What is the difference between going for a degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering? What is the difference between the classes and education one gets?
Answer: Chemistry is the study of how atoms and compound interact. Chemical Engineering is how to apply chemistry. If you are doing this at university, chemistry and chemical engineering usually share classes in 1st and 2nd year as the basis of both is the same. This means if you want to switch from one to the other, there shouldn't be much of a problem.
Question: How difficult is it to change my major to chemical engineering at UCSD? I was recently admitted to UCSD as a chemistry major but I would really rather major in chemical engineering. How difficult would it be for me to switch?
Answer: If you get good grades your first year you should be able to switch with no problem. They will be looking for a 3.5 or higher.
Question: What jobs can you do with a degree in chemical engineering? What jobs are available with a degree in chemical engineering?
How about with just a general degree in chemistry?
(if that's possible, i don't know if you have to specialize in a field) :P
Answer: u answered my question about making out i cant do that im in school so think again
Question: How good of a school is Virginia Tech for Chemical Engineering? And is it next to impossible to do Chemical Engineering at any school? How about at Berkeley or MIT? And I mean by getting A's.
Answer: The mission of the Virginia Tech Department of Chemical Engineering is to educate students to become outstanding chemical engineers who possess all of the skills necessary to excel in an advanced, global society; to conduct innovative and beneficial research while training students to be the researchers of the future; and to provide service and expertise to the chemical engineering profession and society
Its good !!!
Question: Does anyone know of any chemical engineering companies in Maryland? I am a sophomore Chemical Engineering student looking for an opportunity to job shadow a professional chemical engineer. I am particularly interested in working with consumer products, such as Dove or Bath and Body Works hygiene products. Does anyone know of a company who is willing to let me visit them for a day?
Answer: Yeah There is a company called durex. They hire ChemEs
Question: What are some good universities for chemical engineering? What are the universities with excellent chemical engineering programs? I'm assuming those in the ivy league, but are there other notable ones, preferably in the northeast-ish area?
Answer: Actually, being Ivy League has little to do with whether or not a school will have a good program in a specific area. Some top chemical engineering schools are MIT, Cal Tech, Minnesota, Wisconsin-Madison, UT-Austin, Illinois, Stanford, Princeton, and Notre Dame - though these are just a few. Harvard, an Ivy League school, does not offer chemical engineering as a major. The rankings of individual programs (by US News and World Report, Princeton Review, etc.) are largely based on the opinions of others in the field, and are generally better reflections of graduate research than undergraduate education. If you are looking for an undergraduate program, any accredited program will provide the fundamentals necessary to be successful in the profession.
Question: What is the best topic for a Master thesis in chemical Engineering? I want to do a Master thesis in one of the chemical Engineering fields, but the problem I can't determine which is the best topic to choose. I need a topic that cold provide me wit a good career future and life.
Answer: There's no such thing as "BEST TOPIC"...but there's added value for your thesis if you choose something you ARE INTERESTED in.
Question: What is a good to minor in if you are planning on majoring in Chemical Engineering? I am planning on majoring in Chemical Engineering but I do not know what to minor in yet. It would be greatly appreciated for a quick and accurate response to this question.
-Thanks!
Answer: I depends on what you want to do in your career. If you want to climb the corporate ladder I would think a minor in business or business administration. If you hope to have a job where you travel internationally I would think International Business or a foreign language. Or since a lot of math and science is invloved in Chemical Engineering maybe a minor in one of those.
Question: How good/bad is the chemical engineering program at UT (Tennessee)? I'm a senior looking towards chemical engineering at college. My top colleges right now are OSU, UT, and UNC. I know UNC isn't good at engineering, it's more of my choice for if i decide to go into just chemistry or biology. I'm also looking a bit towards University of Michigan and IU.
Answer: Several things: 1) be careful using abbreviations. OSU can mean Ohio St, Oklahoma St, Oregon St. UT can mean Tennessee, Texas, Toledo, or even Utah. IU can be Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana... you get the picture. 2) if a program is accredited, there are no "bad" engineering schools, regardless of what you may hear from a rival. Tennessee is a fine school; it's near Oak Ridge National Lab, TN Eastman, one of the finest chemical companies in the world, and others. Such proximity is a definite plus. The only downside is that you have to sing "Rocky Top" all the time.
Question: Where is the best place to study Chemical Engineering? I have just completed my O'levels and would like to know which country has the best colleges/universities that offer Chemical Engineering courses. Please be specific as I would like to have a good education. I'm currently in the UAE (United Arab Emirates) but I would like to relocate.
Answer: According to US and News Report, in the United States it is:
1. MIT
2. Cal Tech
3. Cal Berkeley
3. U Minnesota - Twin Cities
Question: What is the highest paying research area in the field of chemical engineering? I know that chemical engineering right now is the second highest paying college degree but I just want to know if one of its resarch areas pays higher than the rest.
Answer: i think its a biochemist or forensics
Question: What books do u recommend i read on chemical engineering to learn everything from basics to advanced? Keep in mind I dont know anything about chemical engineering at all.
should i get the blue cover or the red cover? one is blue and red and one is red and red
Answer: I wouldn't be trying to 'get ahead' in chemical engineering. In order for you to even comprehend it, it takes a lot of prerequisite courses that you'll only see once you get to college.
That said, I would be more concerned with finding books that'll give you an idea of what chemical engineering involves and whether or not you'd like working as one for the rest of your life. Also (although you seem extremely studious, trying to get ahead :P) it'll involve a lot of hard work and effort no matter how hard you study before college begins.
However, if you really want a basic book, I'd just recommend Elementary Principles of Chemical Processes, 7th ed.; by Felder. That's the first book I had as a ChemE major.
That'll give you basic mass transfer equations (well, once you get past Chapter 3) that you'll probably be able to understand provided you were exposed to an advanced physics, math, and chemistry course already.
Question: Universities that are good in chemical engineering? I am an high school student and i want to know what university in the U.S are good for chemical engineering. I also want to know my chances of entering those universities. My G.P.A is 4.21.
Answer: If you're GPA is 4.21 then you're not on a 4.0 scale, really, unless you're getting extra points for AP. So it's difficult to say from your GPA. That doesn't matter much, though, really.
What matters a great deal more is your ACT or SAT score. Those need to be through the roof.
There are a lot of great schools for chemical engineering. But I could give you more specific pointers if I knew in what region of the country you lived. If you lived in Ohio, I could give you 4 public universities with strong and growing programs.
Nationally, one of the good ones is Princeton. It is a fine university, yes, but it is also located in New Jersey, where much of our chemical manufacturing is done, so there are a lot of ties to industry. When considering chemical engineering, you have to look at what manufacturing ties with industry the programs have as well as what their research is, not just the quality of the university itself.
I have researched your question a lot, and if you have further questions, feel free to email me at americornfuel@yahoo.com
Question: How popular is chemical engineering as a premed major at UCSD? Or at UC Davis? Approximately how many people go to medical school after completing their engineering major at these schools? And which school is more popular for their chemical engineering program?
Answer: UCSD is a better school for chemical engineering. There are no statistics that show how many people go to med school after, but UCSD is more prestigious and is more known for that major.
Question: How easy is it to get a job in vietnam with a chemical engineering degree? How easy is it to get a job in vietnam and other countries in asia with a chemical engineering degree from the states?
Answer: Probably very easy if you got the right connection and very hard if you haven't. It is better to work for a internation company that works in vietnam than a vietamise company as it is a communist country.
Question: How hard is it to get a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering after having work experience as a chemist? I'm thinking about obtaining a Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering after working for many years as a Chemist. How hard is it to get? How long will it take for me to obtain the Master's Degree? I'm based in LA and I'm looking to go to schools around here. Please give any advice if possible. Thanks!
I'm looking to go into a UCI, or Cal-State Fullerton or Long Beach. Does anyone know how long does it take? I had a 2.6 GPA. I know it's not that great, but hoping that my work experience along with a decent GRE score will help?
Answer: You will almost certainly be required to take several bridging courses — maybe two semesters' worth. Some specialized "Chemical Engineering" degrees, such as NJIT's Master's in Pharmaceutical Engineering, may be a little more accommodating.
If you can demonstrate mastery of undergraduate engineering by passing the EIT/FE exam, you may be assigned fewer bridging courses.
Question: Can I pursue a career in Nuclear Engineering with a degree in Chemical Engineering? Hi, I am currently a junior in Chemical Engineering. I am interested in pursuing a career in Nuclear Engineering. I think the two majors are related, but still is it possible to do this? Do companies hire someone with a degree in Chem E. for a position of a Nuclear Engineer?
Answer: I'm currently a junior in Nuclear Engineering (where do you go by the way?). From what I can guess you probably wouldn't be hired before a Nuclear Engineer, but you are probably qualified for some nuclear engineering jobs. If you haven't done much coursework on radiation, then the chances are lower. Maybe take a nuclear course your senior year, and see if you like it.
Question: Are there Chemical Engineering/related degrees offered by unis that allow study to be based in singapore? I am a Singaporean and I am interested in taking up a Chemical Engineering or related degree course that is offered by universities from other countries but based in singapore, as in i can study for the degree in singapore.
Answer: If you visit http://www.whynotchemeng.com/Rest-of-the-world/Universities then you will see a list of universities that offer accredited courses in Chemical Engineering, it also gives links to the Universitites websites so you'll be able to contact them and find out if they do.
Question: What courses do chemical engineering majors take? I am a senior in high school nd im thinking of majoring in chemical engineering.
can you please tell me the specific courses they take? nd describe them?
are they difficult? is chemical engineering major really hard?
i've heard that u ll get some engineering problems that are really hard ... what kind of questions do you get for homework? please tell me
this is like the biggest decision of my life. thanks in advance
Answer: lots of math: calculus, linear algebra, differential equations.
lots of basic science: chemistry(inorganic, organic, physical), physics
chemical engineering classes: mass balance, thermodynamics, design courses.
Some general ed classes, like everyone else. English/writing. whatever.
From what I've seen the first two years of any engineering major are pretty much the same. Lots of math. Chem Es tend to take a bit of everything, statics, basic electrical engin, etc. You then get into the major specific courses.
yes, some of them can be quite hard.
Sorry, it has been too long to give specifics. I started chemical engineering, but transferred to biology my junior year simply because I liked it a lot more. Now that I'm working, at times I wish I had stuck with the engineering. There really aren't any jobs that pay anything for a bio degree, but plenty for the engineering.
If you like science, like physics, math, and want a challenge, go for it. Chemical engineering would be a great field. You can always change your major later too if you decide you don't like it once you get into it.
