Question: tell me about Assistant Project Manager work in ngo? please it urgent for me?
Answer: Can't say -- it's different at every organization. A project manager at an NGO helping to provide veterinary services is going to be different than at an NGO providing training in organic farming.
Question: Did anyone start their career as a Project Manager or Assistant P.M.? I'm wondering if that's possible or if you must have prior experience?
Answer: People start at all sorts of levels. If you start your job as a project manager without prior experience, it will probably be like flying a plane after reading a few books. You might make it but more likely crash and burn. Better to start as an assistant and learn a few things before getting behind the controls.

Question: Major Problem!!!I'm an assistant project manager in a pharmaceutical company...? I have worked extremely hard to get where I am. Unfortunately, I don't know how to overcome a really important problem: I'm paralysed when I have to talk( to make presentation) in front of many people, even if they are my colleagues.I don't have any problem with training a few each time, but when it comes to company's training meetings and I have to stand up and speak everything falls apart. Please help me..How do I overcome this? If it matters I'm 28 female among mostly men.

Question: Assistant Project Manager position? What are neccesary skills for this job? What should I do to prepare for my interview??
Tips please!!!
Thank you very much in advance :)
Its EMC corp. I was just wondering what I should answer if they asked why they should hire me or my strong skills are.
Also, if anyone has had this position. How did you like it? I do PC support at the moment so its alot of problem solving and troubleshooting and the Asst PM job wont be in the same arena. Right?
Answer: Usually, but not always, the assistant Project Manager will do all the busy work that the Project Manager needs done. Mostly, you have to be willing to do whatever is asked of you. I doubt there would be anything requiring great skills learned over a long period of time.
If I were you, I would ask some questions about what is required of you during the interview (or before if possible) and if you want the job, show great willingness to put yourself out to accomplish whatever is required of you.
Oh, and don't forget to smile!!!
Question: Can my office manager not pay me a week if I forgot to submit my timesheet? I work for an office of 24 people as a Project Manager Assistant. We have ben busy the last few weeks and apparently forgot to submitt my timesheet for one week. It turns out, the office manager deliberately excluded it from my paycheck because she was "not having a good day and didn't feel like reminding anyone". I know it is my responsibility to submit my timesheets on time ( since I get paid hourly) but a reminder wouldn't have been bad either. Can she really do that? Other employees were "busted" as well. Funny thing is that when I approached her about this, she was playing solitaire in her computer!!!!! I hope she is happy now!
Answer: You are right, it is your responsibility to ensure that your time sheet is correct and on time. Where I would be concerned is if she refused to pay for the period at all.
Question: Which companys are recruiting for Assistant Project Managers in Los Angeles and environs? I am in gradaute School working on a degree in PM. I would want to start getting some experience in the field.
Answer: Check with the consulting firms that specialize in your field. You probably will not get a job as an APM right away, but you will have your foot in the door.
Some good firms to check:
CDM (Camp, Dresser, McKee)
Earnst & Young
CH2M Hill
Or, you may want to start at a smaller firm, you'll work your way up quicker. Check with career services at school.
Also, get your professional license, that always helps.

:)
Question: Need very important and urgent advise-please help earnest request? Well,i need all of your in-depth suggestions and advise for me in this typical situation of mine.
I will give a short brief of the scenario.
(1)I joined a new MNC three months ago and working as Team Lead
(2)Friends-i am a novice in a full time Team Leadersip position and hence learning management capabilities surrounded by a lot of
problems in the team(which i feel would be there in all compines).
(4)As i am a new person and younger in age compared to the esiting people,I found that many senior Assistant Managers stopped interacting with me from the day
i was given the Leadership.
I feel fully(which i keep hearing from others)-that they dont like a younger guy coming new to the Org and able to perform up similiar responsibilities.
(5)We are presently a 8 member team and of all the members,there is in particular an associate who doesnt maintain
little proffesionalism in anyways,always behaves in a dont care attitude
and keeps displaying un-proffessionalism in training sessions like-
(a)Never keeps his mobile in silent mode and keeps attending calls -inspite of requesting everyone to please
adhere to these things.
(b)When he approaches me to talk, he will pat with his hand on my back and talks in a tone like "Come on dude-we wont do this"
(6) NOW this particular person was refered by an ASSITANT MANAGER for the entired Project AND SO HE SHOWS HIS POWER.
Anything,i try to explain him-next moment i hear that I m doing over too much because he tells his friend.
(7)Ok,i dont worry about this also,but he crossed the maximum limit of unproffesionalism yesterday.WE worked very hard to get a project and as per
the CLIENT requirements-we are to travel tO US.
So,our SENIOR MANAGER sent a mail that its very good and we need to visit the CLIENT's PLACE for the implementation.
---"Now this associate called every one else from different other teams and read the MANAGER's MAIL saying HE IS travelling
and its an wonderful thing"
Please note-just due to this,till now I have received minimum 10 comments from other Team Lead's and Manager's that
their team members are asking why are they not selected for my team? and why is this partiality in who is travelling?
***I got so frustrated and pissed off that even though i conveyed that it ws to be kept little confidential till the time you reach the CLient's
place because its natural for other associates to enquire that they were old in the
company but they were not considered for the team.
***My senior Manager called me and asked for an explanation because of the confusion created. I told him clearly
that it was this person from our team who is responsible for this.
But-i feel that before my Manager takes an step-I want to address this issue VERY TACTFULLY with this person so that i can convey
that the person is unproffesional in many ways and he has to mend his ways for the good of our team and work.
Please please give me some written suggestions(sort of mail) which i can send to the associate explaining
VERY CLEARLY,TACTFULLY the scenario and its effects-but i dont want to make that i am peronally against him.
Also,please give me some points on this scenario which i can convey to my Manager about this person's activities
and thts the cause of the problems.
I as such dont have any personal issues with the associate-but since i am very new to the Leardership Field-i need
all of ur advise and suggestions to tactfully deal with the scenario and in such a way that I can keep myself in
good books with the managers.

Answer: I am not trying to be rude, but I found your letter almost impossible to decipher. Your problem is not your age; it's your spelling and grammar. Do yourself a favor and work to improve your communication skills.

Question: What should I do if an Office Space promotion situation comes up? Ok I graduated school a couple years ago and got a job. Well for the last year or so I have really been debating whether or not I really want to continue on this path. Plus I was working my a@@ off staying late almost every night trying to get a promotion. But I hardly even got acknowledged by my boss or the owner of the company. So needless to say my work performance has started slack and now I come in late and leave early. I could care less if I got fired. I even started running errands during the middle of my day. Taking 2 hour lunches. Pretty much I went from working 12 to 15 hours a day to maybe 4 (and thats putting it generously).
Well my boss and owner called me into their office today. I thought for sure I was gonna get fired and to tell the truth I was kinda relieved. But then the owner goes you know kid I have noticed a change in your work ethic and am worried that you might have another job lined up soon. I really like you and I am offering you a 20% pay rise and a new title of assistant project manager. Hows that sound?
WTF!? I spent 2 years working my a@@ off and get nothing then when I dont give a crap and hardly do anything I get promoted? WTF is wrong with this country? So basically what I get out of it is that if you work hard they laugh at you and when you slack off their worried they will have to hire someone and train someone new so they dont want to waste the time and energy so they give you a promotion. Should I stick with this company? Does anyone else think this is messed up?
Answer: stick with it , at least for the time being , when you will find another job , you will have a better title and that will help you
Question: If i am anticipating a unfair and unprofessional treatment and possibl echance of being fired? Where can i complaint ? My manager and my departmental head has (MAY have DECIDED to - me getting fired is not finalized but ..i might )decided to fire me based on very lame and unprofessional excuses. I was provided a deadline of 31st December but its a task that is supposed to be done by 2 people (originally i had two people on the project and then other one quit in the month of october - they found someone to replace her in december but I had to TRAIN her during the month of december adn january ). Then I had consistently ask for extension and so they provided that I take till 31st january and ... i just need 2 more days ....... Tasks i was assigned ...i mean its just one part of my job ... i also had many other responsibilities and communications and monitorings and trackers ..... etc etc
Do you think they can fire me for submitting a task 1 or 2 day late.....
Lately they have shot me down for a small tiny mistakes I have made .... but lot of the times..
I am being shot down and told off for SOMEONE else's mistake (for example that girl who left made some mistakes in APRIL of 2009 ...and I just CORRECTED that mistake but BECAUE i found the mistake i am hold responsible for that mistake )) ..... HOW is that fair ???
also ...they will add that ONCE when i was not at work for 2 days (and i had notified my manager in advance) .... i did not leave OUT OF OFFICE assistant on ... i had forgotten to do that ...and she had sent me 20 to 25 line email regarding company policy .....
but do you think she can fire me for all these reasons ...for finishing an assignment 2 days late , not leaving OUT OF OFFICE ASSISTANT ... or NOT FINDING SOMEONE ELSE"S miSTAKEs early enough ...... i mean i just did the QC of latest tasks ...so
anyways. .. i know i have been a little off track but at the same time its also the case where things have been a lot hectic with TRAINING a new employee < MEETING the DEADLInes , communicating with fellow employees in meeting their needs ..
MY manager has scheduled a MEETING tomorrow at 9 AM (1st thing in the morning ) and I am afraid what it might be for ..... i am just too scared that i might get fired ..
can someone help me out ...on how to complain against my Managers ???? if something happens ... becuz i think it is UNFAIR .. as i have been putting in lot of EXTRA hours ... at work to finish things up ..... i think i might be a little SLOW but i have provided the HIgh quality work ...if it is my responsibilities..
Answer: If you have no union they can fire you for any reason they want to. If your question is a sample of the kind of work you do, then it is not a surprise they may fire you. It sounds like you have had problems there for a long time. Tis is probably the straw that broke the camels back.
You can try going over your manager's heads, but it is not likely to result in anything. They would keep you and they would resent you, so things would be worse.
If you feel they are firing you because of gender, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc., then you can file a complaint with the equal opportunity employment commission. But nothing in your post indicates that.
Start updating the resume and proof it better than your post.
Question: Might anyone correct my letter, please? It is a cover letter for a traineeship in a British education centre:
Object : Application for .... Assistantship
Dear Sirs,
I am an Italian Citizen, graduated in European Languages and Cultures. I wish to apply for a :::: grant by the European Commission in the next year 2010/2011, within the .....Programme, and to spend a period in you institute/centre as an Assistant.
As you may read in my curriculum vitae, I am specialist of Spanish Language and Culture and after my degree I carried out a four-months training period in a Spanish educational centre, involved with European exchange projects, where I principally acted as a translator, didactical tutor, cultural and tourist programmes coordinator and placement manager.
My degree is essentially focused on teaching and presently I am going to start a ..... assistantship in a Spanish public school, also studying about C.L.I.L. methodology and applications.
I am very interested in knowing different European Education systems and learning new methods and practices, particularly about teaching languages to adults as a way to promote mobility, especially in the European labour market. I think that in your institute, which I know is involved in others European projects, like Vetpro programmes, for example, I might help you in a variety of activities: tutoring, preparing didactic aid, translating, collaborating in projects coordination and development, interpreting and maintaining foreign contacts, supporting the staff activities.
An experience in your centre would be a great opportunity to know directly your region and culture and improve my English, as much as in my professional life, as I could acquire new skills and competences.
I hope you may consider my proposition and I am available for any details you need about me.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
...
Thank you.
Answer: OK! Here you go..... Are you sure you want it to be perfect? It may seem that your English is too good to be true! Could be wise to make some mistakes.....

Question: Independent contractor or employee? I work for a company, and am categorized as an independent contractor. My employer doesn't withhold taxes on my checks, or pay FICA, and gives a 1099 instead of a W-2 at the end of the year.
I think, however, that this employer may be wrongfully categorizing me and other employees as independent contractors. I was reading this article ( http://jobsearchtech.about.com/od/laborlaws/l/aa121800.htm ) and the IRS rules ( http://jobsearchtech.about.com/od/laborlaws/l/aa121800_3.htm ) about the matter and this is why I think so:
- The company has a great deal of control on how, where, and when we do our jobs. We transcribe dictations for a service called Copytalk where customers call in, leave a voice message, and we type it and e-mail it to them. There are very specific standards and deadlines and procedures for different types of dictations and errors and such.
- Additionally, there is one office where everyone comes in (like a giant computer lab) and we use computers and headsets and other equipment provided by the company.
- We've been made to work 'mandatory overtime' above and beyond our scheduled hours at times when the message queue is above normal.
- The company is ostensibly run as a 'co-op', in that, all workers supposedly, after working 60 hours, own 'part' of the company (without having to buy in with paying money or anything) - but the one manager owns a controlling interest by himself. Additionally, nobody's gotten any documentation of these shares of the company.
- Everyone receives the same training from the company.
- We are paid hourly. Well, we get paid a set amount per hour of dictation we process. Let's say that amount is $20. If it takes us two hours to process one hour of audio, it equals $10 an hour.
- Even though we 'own' the company, we can't really realize a profit/loss.
- We're subject to constant supervision by shift leads, supervisors, management, QAs, etc. - like employees.
- This is a long-term (perpetual) relationship rather than for a set project for a set time.
- The company I work for, is ostensibly independent of Copytalk, and we're constantly told that "We don't work for Copytalk, Copytalk is our customer" - however, the one manager with a controlling interest and his assistant are both employees *of* Copytalk. Which makes me think they set up this company specifically to get tax breaks or some benefit.
So what do you think?
Answer: So?
Call their bluff and file a form ss-8. The IRS will take your information, their information and will make a determination.
of course, Copytalk can choose to fire you.

Answer: I have been in about 10 MOVIES and any number of TV programs AS AM EXTRA and I have been lucky to even get a cold hot dog and a warm coke.. let alone $300. Even when I was in the first two Pirates of the CAribbean movies, what little I made barely covered my expenses to sail my boat up to the Bahamas from Antigua.
If they ASK YOU FOR MONEY UP FRONT.. then IT'S A SCAM because NO TEMP AGENCY GET'S PAID BY YOU.. they may charge the production company.. but THEY DON'T CHARGE YOU ANYTHING.
Question: New Manager - How do I train another person? I have been the sole person in my department for over two years. I was doing the work of at least two people, but with time was able to streamline the process to make the workload manageable. I was promoted and got an assistant that I am supposed to turn into a clone of myself. I have no training experience and realize that I am very territorial over the workload. In my review I was told to pass on more and more of the responsibility to the assistant to free myself up to take on more special projects. I have asked for management training, but the response has been very slow and I need guidance now. I definitely don't want to hinder my assistant's progression, but I am stuck in the "I could just do this myself" mentality. I need advice on how to work so that both of us move the next level. I feel responsible for molding her at this beginning stage of her career and would hate for her to move on not knowing as much as she should because I just didn’t know how to convey it to her.
Answer: I used to have that "I could just do this myself" mentality. The way I got out of it was to ask myself, as I considered each item of work, "Must I do this myself or can I delegate it?"
Delegate everything you can. Start with the simplest, where no or minimal training is required. Let your assistant know what you are trying to do and when something comes up, ask her if it is something she is comfortable doing. Let her know she is taking responsibility for the results and if she is in any doubt she must ask for your help. If this person is self-motivated, in a short while you and she will be making these decisions easily, she will be learning and together you will be getting more done.
Most people are "territorial over the workload" when they believe it is their personal output that counts, that they must be seen to personally deliver the goods or they might not receive the credit for results. Your promotion means that someone believes you can see beyond this and that what counts is that the work is done, whoever does it.
Mostly, the best thing you can do is, rather than clinging to a job, work yourself out of it. That demonstrates to you and your present or future employers that you can lead the work as well as manage it.
Good luck!
Question: What should I do if an Office Space promotion situation comes up? Ok I graduated school a couple years ago and got a job. Well for the last year or so I have really been debating whether or not I really want to continue on this path. Answer: I was in the same situation as you when I graduated. Working a job I hated, with a good pay but felt completely overworked. I quit and decided to get a masters degree and now I'm working toward a job I feel completely passionate about. I thought money was supposed to be my biggest concern but soon discovered how unfulfilled my life became following that path. It sounds like you don't like your job and money won't change that. Find your passion! I can not express the relief I felt when I finally found mine. No amount of money could get me to go back.
Question: Is there a labor Law? I still need more advised on this one. ? Well, I work for an IT company for last 3 years, and basically I wear all the hats in this company. My role is Administrative Assistant, and that includes assisting the VP and the Financial Office. It's a growing company and when I first started we were only 6 people and right now we are 22. A list of my roles are ;
Account Payable/Account Receivable, Schedule travel arrangement the VP, Answer White-paper and Columns Request,Update Sales Pipeline, Make Sales calls, Collect staff time-sheets,Keep track of Expenses,Do HR Processing, Do Notarization,Customer Service, Data entry on Working Project, Mail merge / Mail Archive,Answer Phone, Make appointments, Order supplies, Take out the trash, assign email address and extension number and so on and so on.
Well a couple of weeks a go they hired someone as an Inside Sales, and her role is to answer the White-papers and Columns and update the pipeline also to contact the people that request them. Finally I found out that no only a small part of my duty are pass on her but this person is getting paid more with potential commission earnings. Should it I be getting even more than this sales person since I do many things for them?, You know I think i'm being descrimitated against, even i don't belive in that I don't see my self with that crap!! i know that excist but, I'm very open minded and I've worked with different races, I'm I am the only minority the only hourly employee. My boss tries to avoid me and a couple of months i sent him an email requesting training for the Project Manager position that they had available and totally ignored me and never commented about it..
What should I do? should i look for something else or just leave with it, because i don't think I can.
Answer: At that size, there are fewer labor laws that really apply. Anyway, unless you have documentation supporting your claim of discrimination, it's awfully difficult to pursue any legal remedies.
What you basically have here is a disagreement with your company over your value to the company. Comparing yourself to the new hire is not a good road to take. It is unlikely that you are you an expert either in the full requirements of the Inside Sales position or in judging the performance/qualifications of the other hire. Focus on your own contribution. Explain why your work is with XYZ to the company. At the end of the day though, if you and your company cannot see eye to eye, your best bet is to seek opportunities elsewhere.
As far as the training for the Project Manager goes, it is inappropriate to simple request training for the position. Very few managers would respond well to this. Question: how can i as assistant manager help to increase jewellery shop taking? i work in jewellery and i have to write a project and explain how can i increase my shop taking,
Answer: Some approaches ...
[1] Marketing - small ads in local paper
[2] Marketing - build a web site to attract international sales of custom/special pieces
[3] Marketing - build a web site to display your (example) wares so people can see what your range is before visiting
[4] Sales skills - always ask if there is anything else that they would like when someone makes a purchase - e.g. if they have bought a necklace would they like matching ear rings.
[5] Sales skills - ask the customer what the item is for and who it is for. Armed with this knowledge you can direct them quickly to what they are after and pitch your sale within their budget.
[6] Sales skills - when assisting a customer always give them options. Show them three similar items with a cheap version, an average cost version and an expensive version. Often, if it is a gift or for some special occasion, they will opt for the most expensive version.
[7] Sales skills - start "closing the deal" immediately. Ask questions to get them to start saying "yes" - "do you like this colour", "is this suitable for the occasion", "is this in your price range" ... and then when they have said "yes" to everything make an Assumptive Close and say "would you like me to gift wrap this for you?"
In short - market to make people aware of who/where you are and what you do. Use sales skill to close them when they are in the shop.
Finally, there is also the auction site eBay to clear stock that is not moving.
Question: Any project managers out there? How do you like your job? I'm looking for info on this field as I've been offered a position of Assistant Project Manager. Thanks
Answer: I have two son-in-laws who are project managers and I am my own contractor (project manager). So I feel I have a good idea on job UTILITY (Happiness). My son-in-laws are mixed - one of them should get out of the business and the other one loves every second of it and is good at it. I love it also. I think the son-in-law who should get out of the business in careless with what he does and lets others do poor work on the projects he is managing. The one who loves being a project manager builds quality into everything he does and has done through sub contractors. As an Assistant Project Manager you will soon realize which kind of manager you are, An assistant would be a great place to start. You'll get to know the good and hard sides of doing the job. It does take work. My best advice - take all your sub contractors to lunch - regardless of how low down the employment line they are. Take them a drink when its hot and let them come in out of the cold when its cold. People remember and give in return. The sub contractors I keep using do great work and I treat them good. I think those two things go hand in hand and makes my job more satisfying and ultimately easier.
Good luck in your quest.
Question: Name the best employment agency in North America? Is there a job placement firm out there that really works hard to find one work as an executive assistant or project manager? Or are they all the same? Is there one that offers superior service etc?
Answer: In this job market, forget it. Those recruiters/head hunters are swamped with workers and have only a few jobs available. You can try, but don't expect much.
Question: I'm looking for ideas for thank you gifts for male co-workers...? I just finished up a big project as an interior designer on a custom home. I want to send the project manager, assistant project manager and job superintendent each gifts to say how much I enjoyed working with them. All three of these individuals are male.
Any suggestions are appreciated, but please don't be disgusting or rude in your answers.
Answer: Get them each a pair of tickets a baseball game or other sporting event, or a rock concert.
If you have your own website as a designer, maybe you can commemorate or thank them for their services publicly by showing the before and after photos of your award winning custom home, with permission from the owner of course, and credit them for their particular skill or service somehow.
You can take photos of the before and after, mount the photos in a frame or plaque, and present it to them for hanging in their offices.
Question: What should I write in the project report? The Case and requirement are listing below? Mason Cooper are a company specialising in the design and production of leisure clothing. They specifically concentrate on supplying polo shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, and hooded tops to retail outlets.
Traditionally, they have designed and produced in the same factory. At present they have 1 base in the South East of England (Eastbourne) . They employ 1 Manager, 3 Assistant Managers, 4 Admin Officers, 2 designers (contracted as/when required) and another 25 staff linked to production activities.
They have recently opened their own retail stores in Leeds, Newcastle, and Manchester. Although it was hoped that these stores would be successful, business has been poor. Therefore , in an attempt to generate sales, a special - one off – project is to be undertaken to boost sales. This project is a promotional campaign (budget £250,000) to create awareness of the company, its products, and its retail outlets.
As Project Manager responsible for the promotional campaign, you are contracted at the feasibility stage. You are required to prepare a report (2,000 words) outlining the activities required to successfully manage this major project of promoting Mason Cooper. The project must be started and finished on time, and within budget.
The analysis should include the skills and competencies required by the Project Manager, along with the project management process. Use examples of the concerns, stages, processes, leadership, administration and control problems associated with managing the lifecycle of this major project.
Answer: There are two areas to cover. The framework is really addressing the fundamental areas of project management. You need to populate that framework with the business plan.
The framework would cover how you plan to manage the nine traditional areas. Scope, Cost, Time, Resources, Communication, Risk, Procurement, HR and Integration. You can see a white paper on our web site that will give you more details.
The next stage is to understand what goes within the framework. For example for HR, what skills are required? Who is responsible for what? Where and when will you get resources?

Question: what would a manager do in this case? I had been trying to develope my merchandising lead to become merchandising manager (my current possition) for over 4 months now. She kept on leaving projects that i assigned to her unfinish and never write a report (like i asked her to do for ever project) so that i would know how the project is coming along. She also bad-mouthed me often behind my back and today she yelled at me, curse, and threaten me. Because i criticited her on her incompleted projects and i was very upset. She even talked very loudly to the Store assistant manager when we had a meeting with her after the incident. Now, i'm afraid to work with her and i don't know what i should do. Does anyone have any advice ?
Thank you
Answer: Take a step back and look at it from her perspective.
What reasons could she have to not finish her work?
Did you ask?
When she 'bad mouths' you, are the comments justified? Sorry thats a tough one, but better to know the answer early and be prepared.
(BTW : People WILL talk about you. Dont expect much praise and do yourself a faovor......dont listen)
How does her conduct affect the performance of your other subordinates?
List her good points and bad points. Do you praise her for her good points? Does this make her feel patronised?
Or.....is she just an uncooperative individual you could all well do without?
Get the list, prepare your case and talk to your manager in confidence. Show that you are looking for a solution and not a confrontation.
Question: Entry level tasks at a very small company? I know it differs by job category, but what kind of tasks do entry-levels normally do at work?
I work at a very small company that has just started up. I was hired as an entry level researcher but I'm multi tasking in different fields. I do research, work as an assistant for a project manager (who is in completely different department), and even as an administrator. What my boss (or bosses) tell me is that since there is no assistants nor administrator in the office, I'm supposed to do everything since I'm the lowest in the foodchain. Is it true? I'm really curious how other small companies are like. The company did not give me the contract yet so I don't know what's under my job description.
And If you can, please give me an advice on how I could work well as an entry level.
Answer: entry level is professional lingo for "my bi*tch." you do as you're told and that's it. from their point of view it enables you to get a grasp on what each department does and how the company functions. what really happens is whatever no one wants to do, you do it. you're basically everyones gopher so either get used to it or find some other line of work. eventually, with good work and making sure everyone there likes you, you can upgrade and get a better position within the company. Entry level, biggest thing is to keep at it. you're gonna do some sh*it work and for quite some time too. entry level means you'll do entry level work regardless of how well you peform. were you a management trainee or something like that you'd at least be working towards something. for now, do what you gotta do but keep your eyes open on a department or field within the company you are interested in and make yourself availabel to them. over time you'll make relationships with those in that dept and when the time comes for an opening in there, you 'll be set.

Answer: Sounds like this has nothing to do with food service.
Question: how can i assisst my boss? I work now as an assistant for a project manager. now the situation is: my boss is up to his head with work, and all work is management level stuff, stuff i can't decide upon so he can't delegate me any tasks to help him up nowadays. i feel useless, i really really wanna help, any suggestions on what to do???
Answer: Start with asking him. Look if there anything you can do to improve the process around the work that only he can do.
Question: Anyone been through this before? Hi all
Just some advice about my job please.
There has recently been a lot of speculation about possible redundancies at my place of work as a result of the work my workplace does on a national level being handed over to private firms (this is assumed).
The plans are for this to happen in about 3 years time and people are speculating that because the private firms may come in we may no longer be needed and some people are saying it's better to leave now than be made redundant.
What I want to know is should I stick it out or leave? Anyone been in a similar situation and how did things turn out?
I'm very stressed and worried by all this as I have never been in this situation before so would appreciate some advice.
I work as a assistant project manager if that helps?
Thanks
Answer: Hello! Sorry to hear about your company. My friend experienced a similar thing with his job, it was outsourced to India. It might be best to leave your job now, especially if you have a family. There are going to be a lot of changes to your company in the next 3 years that you probably won't like (change in bosses, positions available, structure of company). If you stay until the end, it may only be a shadow of the company you once knew. Since the job market is very competitive right now, you should start looking for a new position that will suit you as soon as you can. Try holding onto your position with your company for now until you have a new job lined up . Good luck
Question: What makes a good 2nd Job from 6pm to whenever? I have an 8am - 5pm job but unfortuantely I will need a 2nd job in order to keep my apartment. What kind of work should I look for that would have hours that would allow me to still have time for my 1st job? I'm 22, female with working now as a cad drafter/assistant project manager.. my experience is limited to the electrical industry and general office work.
Answer: There are lots of working parents that need a good babysitter/nanny to get dinner started help kids with homework, baths etc. I used to have someone help us, I paid a girl $200 a week just to come at 5:00 to help me with my 3 very young children, b/c sometimes I worked out town (hubby too) and had to stay late at work, she usually left by 8:30 p.m.
Also, bartending or waiting tables, great tips.
Retail seasonal stores, but it is so tempting to spend your check at certain stores!!! Good Luck!

Answer: If you're worried, start looking for another job now, and if you find one you like better than the one you have, take it. But there's no point in jumping ship before it even starts taking on water. You have time to protect your own interests and career prospects if you do so calmly and systematically. Acting impulsively on rumor and speculation could lead you from the frying pan into the fire, so be sure that you are doing what is right for you, not what other people think you should be doing.
Question: What kind of careers should I pursue with a BS in Civ. Eng.? ? I currently work as an assistant project manager for a construction firm. Nearly one full year in this position, I've realized that this is not for me. I've seen crane operators making way more than what I'll ever dream (six figures, easy work, and it seems to be a bit fun). I don't regret going for Civ. Eng. because the possibilities are endless in this field. I just need guidance/suggestions on what's the best route to take.
Thanks in advance!
Answer: Go to unemployment office in your local town. They have job search on computer or you speak to someone. I found it alot more successful speaking to someone.
I found 2 jobs going there.
one was an acting job working for the NJ military. i have been there for over 6 months and love it
the other is a comcast cable job in NJ. Pays very very well.
i started with no job now i have 2 jobs and lots of money.
Go to unemployment when you have about 1-2 hours to spare. trust me, it works. You will definately find a job that same day. They have lists of jobs everywhere thats hiring in every state, even overseas.
they have PT, FT and student jobs

Question: think i will be a father to 5 different women, in the space of the next 2 years Iam so scared? think i will be a father to 5 different women, in the space of the next 2 years Iam so scared, i cold an sad?
Help before I kill myself ! Since I got a dream job in April things have gone horribly wrong from my personal life point of view! Girlfriend is having our baby in January. My cousin who I hadnt seen in previous 6 years claims she wants to keep my baby she is 3 months. My mate's sister claims she is 9 weeks with my baby and my ex has a 2 year old i have never seen and she wants to come because ' baby wants to see its daddy'. I need help of all these women its only my mate's sister i would rather be with because i have fancied her for ages. I dont want to be a father Iam 24 this is so unfair. I cant sleep i cant eat iam a waste of space, and my Dad will be pissed off and my mother who has a high blood pressure says iam better off not getting married and not date anyone serious until i have matured more. What do i do? I work as an assistant project manager :(
Answer: The deed is done....er...the deeds are done. So, no use in "worrying" about things. Your best angle is to be realistic and calm. Hard, I know, but you can do it. (No pun intended there!)
First of all: STOP having unprotected sex NOW. Use a condom. Everytime. If you don't have one, go for oral sex or mutual masturbation. Pretty satisfying when you're horny. You do not need to experience coitus EVERY TIME.
Next: Contact a lawyer in your area. Look for a lawyer involved with child support issues. You will have to pay child support to the mothers who are bearing your children unless you marry one of them...which basically means you will be supporting the child(ren) she has.
And then: Establish paternity. Check out this website:
http://fatherhood.about.com/od/paternityissues/Fathers_Rights_and_Paternity_Issues.htm
In it you will find basic information and bunch of links for other information. Study it carefully.
Next: Make sure you ARE NOT HAVING UNPROTECTED SEX. (*Just checking!!)
And then next: Seek out a financial advisor--you will need some kind of health insurance, college savings for all five kids (if they are yours) and retirement savings. Yes, you are only 24 now. You'll blink your eyes and be 34 in no time. No kidding. 44 will come faster and then your kids will be grown and you'll be DEEP IN DEBT.
Now: Take heart....if in fact you are the father of all these kids, the government will not take 100% of your income for child support. The maxiumum taken will be about 35%, which will be evenly distributed among your progeny. So make sure to seek out a lawyer BEFORE the mothers do. The judge or attorney general will look upon you much more favorably if YOU inititiate child support proceedings.
Also: Understand you are NOT THE FIRST PERSON to ever make an ERROR IN JUDGMENT. It sounds like you are otherwise an intelligent and well-meaning young man. Also very fertile. Develop friendly and mature relationships with all the women involved (if you are actually the father to their kids---if you're not---and you'll know after ordering a paternity test on each kid...if one woman has two---order a test on EACH KID....if in fact you are NOT THE FATHER of one or more kids--cut off the relationship with that girl....you do not want to be tempted to have relations with her again, plus you'll be spread thin enough already.)
This will sound strange: Pat yourself on the back. Yes. Do that. You are "manning up" to your responsibilities. It takes TWO TO TANGO and YOU are not going to leave child-rearing up to only the women. It's not fair to them. It's not fair to the kids.......and MOST OF ALL...it will not be fair to you. You are in a unique situation. You can be a wonderful part-time father. Helping financially is one way---the main and most important way for now. But keeping a calendar with each of your children's birthdays and important milestones will bring you riches in your later years that you just CANNOT FATHOM now.
Finally: Do sit down and make a plan of action. Write down some goals. Make sure to schedule and follow up on paternity tests, lawyers' advice, scheduled Lamaze classes, pregnancy due dates, and scheduled court hearings/appearances. Do speak to your family and enlist their support. It is not their fault you forgot to wear condoms...the girls who are pregnant bear equal responsibility....but REGARDLESS....the kids are coming and they DID NOT ASK to be BORN...but they now have the right to be reared, raised in love and acceptance by all and they have the right to have every opportunity for success despite their situation.
And one more thing: Smile. There are worse things that could happen. Be a good young dad. You can still have fun, but be careful how you take your life for granted. Turn this set of situations into something positive. You're going to be okay and so will all your kids.
Question: I think i will be a father to 5 different women, in the space of the next 2 years Iam so scared, i cold an sad? Help before I kill myself ! Answer: You should be commended for turning your life around. Relax a little, chill out for a minute and wait and see. You know you have made some mistakes and you should have protected against pregnancy and disease but you can't turn back the clock. Speak to your parents, either together or separately, or even just one of them and give them a true picture of how you see the situation, much like the one you have given us. If you can discuss these things before the babies start popping you are far more likely to be able to take some control. Reiterate to your parents how hard you have worked to change your life around and seek their support with a new and more responsible relationship. There is always hope and a way forward and you never know the babies may turn out not to be yours.
Question: Where can a BA International Affairs take me? After graduating, I was offered to work in Uzbekistan as an assistant project manager. Where??? Just kidding, I know where this is. Although very flattered and gracious, I declined due to my fear of what may soon happen as the OTHER BUSH was getting ready for *&%.
I declined the offer and took a comfortable job leasing luxury apartments (which worked out b/c I finally had health insurance!) .
Seven months in I was in a horrific car accident caused by, you guessed it...a drunk driver. It wasn't pretty to say the least. I lost about a year and a half with rehab (couldn't bear weight on leg for 1yr). And, in the process I lost everything in my head that I studied in school!
I went into real estate and have enjoyed selling multi-million dollar developments since.
To make a long story short: I want more inward fulfillment from giving outward fulfillment...aka: helping others more. What can I do with my degree now?
Answer: Work for the Department of State. They have positions that can use your knowledge of International Affairs. The catch is, you may be asked to support a domestic policy that is in conflict with what your personal beliefs are and you'll be expected to march forward and support the US government's policies.
The position is called a Foreign Service Officer and they have different career tracks, depending on what you want to specialize in, like consular affairs, economic affairs, management affairs, political affairs, and public affairs. There are varied options to take. Check out the link below and it may help you decide if that is something you want to do.
Question: How do I become a Virtual Assistant? Does anyone know how I could get started as a Virtual Assistant? I'm interested in starting off slow, and am in no rush to do this, but I would love to get started in this career path so by the time I have children (in about 2-3 years) I can possible work from home and do what I'm great at.
I excel at almost all and any administrative tasks, and have been in the field for almost 7 years. I support a line of managers currently and do almost every type of project and admin task you could think of, so I have a lot of experience.
Basically, I would like to know if there is a way to get on board with this type of job and not have to pay $3K for some 'certificate' since I already have the experience to back it up.
Ideas/Feedback/advice? Thanks!
Answer: I am also in the same field, just starting out also. I suggest just pick a couple of the administrative tasks you do really well and start with that., you can always add more services as your business grows. If your business does not have the necessary financial means at the moment, you can always get certified when it does at a later time. I did not get certified either since I do have 10 yrs. admin. experience myself.
Get yourself a website, even if it's just a simple one, get some business cards and NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK!! Maybe send some information to some local offices or some non-profit organizations, churches or you can also join your local chamber of commerce. I also suggest you get this book, Virtual Assistant the Series, by Dianna Ennen and Kelly Poelker. This book has helped me a lot in putting this business together step by step, gives you great information on what you are going to need and ideas on what services Virtual Assistants are offering.
I hope this helps, good luck.
Question: Putting a house together from pre-engineered pieces? Has anyone done this before? What companies are out there to look at? My boyfriend has worked as an assistant General contractor at a few internships, when he graduates in May he will have a degree in construction management and then will work for a home building company as a project manager. We think after a year we should be able to build our own house. I've looked at "Owner Builder Solutions" website they seem like a good idea has anyone used them? They say they are not modular or mobile homes. If I use them what else would I need to buy? Thanks
Answer: http://www.fertighaus.de/.........this is the type of thing you mean.......i also hope to buy one in the future......there are several options.....they build the whole thing........build only the shell..........you build the whole thing.....they give prices for each option.....they dont paint,fit kitchen,fit bathroom suit or put wood flooring in but most else they do,you buy the plot of land .......sorry it,s in german,you will have to find some from your area
Question: What are the managerial ranks in Wal-Mart? Dept. Manager
Assistant Store Manager
Facility Manager
Market Manager
Then what?
Can't find it in the internet, need it for a project. Thanks for your help.
Answer: It might be slightly difficult for you to find the answer to this right now.
Wal-Mart is undergoing changes in their managements.
I know that about an assistant manager and below a store manager is a position now called "Shift Manager"
There will be quite a few changes in the management structure soon but I'm sure it is mentioned somewhere on the Wal-Mart website.
This might actually be of some help:

Question: How long does it take to become a supervisor at a retail store or a fast food restaurant? How long does it take to become a bottom line shift supervisor (or bottom line assistant manager) at a retail store like 7-eleven or a fastfood chain like wendy's or mcdonald's, if I start from the crew?
I'm a university graduate with BSc, and I have 8 months of experience a fastfood store. I've also taken few university business courses including intro.accounting and project management.
...thanks.
or at a place like starbucks
Answer: All the places you are talking about has to do with your interactions with customers. And other is how you get along with your co-workers. Have you taken more responsibility, even for a short time to act as lead or like a supervisor for a week, when the other is on vacation. Than, comes the question, if you were the boss, would you create and maintain good realtions with workers-Train them-Discipline them and so on---it is not amount of time and not what degrees you have--it is the real performance and results in all of the above areas.

Question: Have you ever taken a job offered to you that wasn't what u applied for? Ex) You applied for a project manger position and they looked at your experience and thought you would be beter as a Marketing Assistant.
Would you just say "no thanks, I applied for the Project Manager Position".
Answer: Ha, yes that happened to me at my current job.
I was applying to be an Windows NT admin (this was back in 2000, after the whole Y2K thing), and they interviewers gave me a technical interview for almost an hour. No real surprises, and I handled it well. At the end, they said to me, "Great, we think you'll be perfect for the Help desk!"
Nothing against Help desk techs, but I was a desktop tech at the time, looking to go up technically, not down. So I stuck to my guns, and eventually I landed a job as an NT Admin. I'm still at the job, although we've of course migrated to Active Directory :).
Question: Write an e-mail of 6-10 sentences based on the scenario described here.? Your boss has asked you to set up a meeting with a client, Joceyln Talbot, for next Wednesday at 2:00pm. Answer: Dear Ms. Talbot,
Mr. Jones and assistant manager Rory Webster would like to meet with you over lunch to share ideas for the new project they are planning. Question: how can I become a shift manager at a retail store/fast food restaurant/7-eleven/etc? how can i become a assistant manager/crew supervisor at a retail store or a fastfood restaurant?
I have a BSc degree from university, and have taken couple business courses including accounting and project management. However, I have only 4 months of experience at 7-eleven, and this is only retail-type of job experience I have.
How long would it take for me to become a supervisor/assistant manager if i start as a crew?
is it hard to become one?
I just want to try out new things
thanks.
Answer: At these type of establishments, experience is key. Degrees, while nice, won't necessarily get you the job. You should continue to work retail jobs to gain more experience. Apply for any manager jobs that come up and there is a good chance of being promoted.
Question: Need Help on Cell Analogy Project!! ? For my science project, I need to compare a plant cell to something else. ( I picked Panda Express :D) But I can't think of anything because I have a lack of creativity :( So I need to compare Panda Express to a freaking plant cell. Question: I cannot figure out how to put two files into an array in java. This is for a programming project please help.? A small project
You are the owner of a small computer programming company and you’ve been asked by a client to write a program for a small accounting firm that will calculate their payroll for the entire firm.
Your program will need to access two files to get the information necessary to calculate the salary for each employee. It will then output to a different file the social security number and the corresponding wage for each employee.
The first file contains the social security number and the total hours worked for each employee, while the second file contains the social security number and the title for each employee. You can assume that both files are already sorted in ascending order by the social security number. However, do not assume that the social security numbers will be at the same position in each file. You will need to do a search.
Example:
1st input file
132456789
35.5
222444555
45
322678913
60.2
333456778
55.5
455666432
40
2nd input file
132456789
Clerk
222444555
Manager
236333211
Custodian
322678913
Assistant Manager
333456778
Accountant
455666432
Clerk
Output file
132456789
461.5
222444555
1800
322678913
1204
333456778
1665
455666432
520
Your program should be able to handle overtime which is calculated at time and a half over 40 hours worked.
Assuming that no employee is a salaried worker, the following describes the rate for each type of employee at the firm.
Custodians - $10
Clerks - $13/hr
Accountants - $30/hr
Assistant managers - $20/hr
Managers - $40/hr
* You will be given both input file for your program. As usual you must print your output file with your source code.
Answer: "Your program should be able to handle overtime which is calculated at time and a half over 40 hours worked"
KIRAN's PROJECT OUTCOME is WRONG!! just so you know
SSN 222444555
is a manager @ $40/hr @ 45hrs is not 1800.... here's the correct computation of code:
import java.io.*;
public class Main
{
String file1="C:/one.txt",file2="C:/two.txt",
outputfile="C:/output.txt";
Employee[] emp;
public Main(){
try{
BufferedReader in=new BufferedReader(new FileReader(file2));
String line;
int sz=0;
while((line=in.readLine())!=null){
if(line.length()==9){
sz++;in.readLine();
}
}
emp=new Employee[sz];
in=new BufferedReader(new FileReader(file2));
sz=0;
while((line=in.readLine())!=null){
if(line.length()==9){
emp[sz]=new Employee(line);
emp[sz].setPosition(in.readLine());
System.out.println(emp[sz].position);
sz++;
}
}
in=new BufferedReader(new FileReader(file1));
PrintWriter out=new PrintWriter(new FileWriter(outputfile));
while((line=in.readLine())!=null){
if(line.length()==9){
for(int i=0;i40){
return wage*40+1.5*wage*(hours-40);
}else
return wage*hours;
}
}
}
Question: How can I use jealousy in a positive way? I have just started a job and I was happy after 11 months of unemployment. My problem now is the following: in my team, I work with a female Project Manger who is 2 yrs younger than me. I have questioned her about her career path because our HR dpt asked us to complete an online Employee Development Plan. She told me that she started at a low level then progressed smoothly: Customer Service, Reception, Marketing Assistant,..., Project Lead and now Project Manager. She is been working there for...14 yrs. She is a good looking person, chic, approachable, controls her image and knowledgeable about the company. People respect her. She married last year to another manager in the same company and she is expecting a child. She has plans to buy a house abroad for holidays. She earns £50k a year, she nicely told me. She replaces the Director when he is absent. I feel that she found the right company or maybe she is the perfect employee! She has never been unemployment!.
Well she looks like the person I have always wanted to be, but it is too late!. I have been struggling professionally all my life, making the wrong choices or being out of work. I also have a strong personality and a...temper! I like this woman but I cannot stop feeling jealous...every day and I feel sad!. I don't know what I will become in 14 yrs! In all my previous companies, I have never felt I will last. I have worked as Project Manager before...for 12 months!. How can I use this jealousy in a positive way? Is it possible now to be like her. I will have kids at the age of 50, no problem! LOL Never been jealous before.
Answer: I love this question, because YES, you can use jealousy in a positive way!
This is so like me, the jealousy part. And although I am not entirely crazy and look at the Joneses day in and day out, as far as career goes, I ALWAYS get jelous of others. It is probably the best feeling that happened to me in my life (my curse is my blessing ;), because it got me where I am at right now, and I am not ruling any major company, but I just graduated college without having my parents support. I consider myself really independent, and if not jealousy, I wouldn't be where I am at.
As far as your question, you've got some good answers already. LEARN FROM HER! Don't let her know that you are jealous, but whatever you learn from her, it's always gonna stay with you as a part of your personality. This is good news! This shows that you actually have ambition!
Question: What approach should be taken to pursue a PhD related to urban planning or social/economic geography? I have a Bachelors with a double major in Political Science and Urban Studies and a Master in Urban Planning with an emphasis on community development (social and economic aspects of urban planning). I got the masters in 1997. I have had no more formal university education in 10 years and I am in my mid-30s. I have been working in the affordable housing industry as a staff assistant, property manager and administrator.
I had always planned to pursue my education further and family and friends thought the same, but I got to eat and pay bills. I've always had a thirst for knowledge and research and finding out things for either the sake or learning or to apply it to something. I got my masters straight after getting my bachelors, so I had been in school 6 straight years after high school, so some associates joked about me not been in the real world. Now, after 10 years in the real world, I now have the ironic opposite problem of trying to find the best way to get back into "academic" shape. Heck, I've only been to the public library three times since getting my masters. I do have lots of practical continued education related to my job or keeping up with standard office software and do have a lot of books from my own library that I read, however.
These are some options I'm exploring:
(1) Take some classes at local state university and/or through distance education colleges to get study habits back and strenthen transcript (it is possible, though not necessarily an absolute goal that I could get second bachelors from this route from a college like Excelsior), then pursue PhD
(2) Pursue the MBA, then pursue PhD
(3) Pursue Masters Degree in another area such as economics or geography that complements my previous education on the political science and urban studies side, then pursue PhD
Back 10 years ago when I was still in grad school, the professor who was my advisor had suggested to me that I go to an MBA program. I had not thought about going to get an MBA before, but he saw that I had loaded up my urban planning coursework with electives in social statistics and economics (he knew I could have taken a lot easier courses). He wanted me to consider going to a place like Wharton. He felt that the combination of a masters in urban planning and an MBA would be a dynamic combination for someone interested in community development. I considered that, but like I said, I need to eat and since I came from very modest means (poor), I needed to work. I am was already in debt trouble, so I wasn't interested in taking on more student loans and will not ever take out any more student loans (and I intend to self-finance any future education and/or pursue any available grants).
Now that I've been out for so long, not only am I academically rusty but I've also lost contacts with potential recommenders (a few of whom have since passed including my graduate advisor). So as I see it, at the minimum I need to take a few college courses just to make sure I still got the touch, as well as for the regular business of getting recommenders and strengthening my transcript.
I anticipate that the pursuit of the PhD in my situation will be a 8-12 year project. I'm now in my mid-thirties, so I would hope to have the PhD completed by the time I'm in my early to mid-forties. I expect to start my comeback with a course this Fall. For the next year or so, I expect to stay enrolled continuously either in a traditional course or distance education course.
Answer: I strongly suggest that any courses you take prior to applying to PhD programs are at least at the Masters level, and are not taken through distance education. Distance ed courses (or anything through Excelsior) will work against you in PhD admissions. If you wish, you could look into terminal MA programs in econ or geography, but why?
I honestly think you are underestimating yourself. With an Masters in Urban Planning already in hand, and with years of experience in the field, you should be looking at PhD programs.
Just contact the Directors of Graduate Studies in the programs to which you intend to apply, and ask questions. Your first question should be about letters of rec: "Would letters from employers be appropriate, given my situation?"
And finally, I think you are overestimating the time required for the PhD. If you are admitted to a program as a full-time student, you should receive an assistantship of some sort, which usually includes full tuition remission as well as a modest stipend. In this case, 5-6 years should suffice. (There are very few part-time PhD programs in most fields. I suggest you check into the situation in Urban Planning, however, since it is not my area of expertise.)
Best wishes to you!
