Question: How can i network as a Lighting designer for Theatre? I'm a junior in high school and I am the only student lighting designer at my school. How can i network to get my name out there for different theatres to hire me.
Answer: Well it all depends on the market, and what skill level you are at. The way the professionals do it is they have portfolios that include things like some rendering, pictures, and lighting plots. It is best if there are some examples that follow the creative process for concept to the finished product. Think of it the same way the you do when you design, you want to tell the story. Some designers I know have created slide show type things that they include with their cover letters and resume.
With you just starting out the best thing for you I think is get involved with some community theatre and your school plays. Learn as much as you can about design AND the electrical work that is required to make you plot happen. You need to have a great mastery of the technology that is involved in lighting, not just the computers and consoles, but electrical theory. Now put your portfolio together and find a great University that can help you put it all into focus. (ha a pun I crack myself up!) Personally I like NCSA, DePaul's The Theatre School, and CMU as my top picks to a BFA in Lighting Design.
Now for the boring stuff. This Field you are looking at is one of love, not money or fame. If you are passionate about it, and are good, there is no way to know if you are going to be able to pay the bills. But this should not stop you if you want it badly enough. I am excited every day that I go to work. I cannot see myself doing anything else. I would not trade it for anything.
In closing Good Luck, and Follow You Heart!!
Question: How do I become a lighting designer? I am considering a career in the area of lighting design, unfortunately there aren't many resources online that provide much information. So I'm wondering are there any schools that provide a specializes degrees in this field. Should I go for a degree in theater with a concentration in lighting? For people who work in this field how hard is it to find a job, and how well does it pay. I'm not looking to become immediately wealthy, but I would like to know I'd be able to support myself with this job. Are there any websites or resources online that will give me more information???
Thanks so much for taking time to help me out!
Answer: Are you talking about specifically designing theater lighting? The University of Colorado was the first to have a program for lighting design. There may be other schools now, I don't know. Most electrical designers and engineers for buildings have to learn and know about lighting design since lighting falls under part of a building's electrical system. There are also more specialized lighting designers who either have a lighting type degree or have a degree in architecture/interior design. I would recommend that you look at Univ of Colorado. Their program takes a more technical approach to lighting design as opposed to an aesthetic approach like architects. You'll be much more marketable. If you email me offline, I can give you contact information for a lighting engineer who graduated from this program.
Question: How much does a theatrical lighting designer make and what would be a good way to get a job after schooling? This is for my Stage Design class, and as much info will be appreciated!!!
Answer: In Local Theaters and Most Off Broadway. You are Contracted to do a show. ,Sometimes a % of the IOntake of the show. Somtimes A fee. It all depsnds on the contract. I Get about $1.400For desighning a show and about
$3.000 for a set desighn. as for directing anywhere between.
$2.000 and $5.000.
Question: What is lighting designer engineer doing? Does it has a good future? I am currently working as Electrical Engineer at Electrical Contractor company which gives me diverse range of experiences starting from PLC/SCADA programming, AutoCAD drawing, thermal imaging survey, asset maintenance, project engineering and budget estimating. However because of the amount of time spent for each role, I don't have "experiences" I can boast on to look for another job.
Answer: A lighting engineer works for an engineering or specialised lighting design company. They specify the lighting within a given space by liaising with a group of interested parties such as architects, interior designers, electrical engineers and project management. One of their main tasks is the arrangement of luminaires (lights) over a given space, to achieve a prescribed light level (lux level). They also specify luminaires based on specifications from an architect or interior designer.
They do street and public space lighting, which involves the specification and placement of fittings on poles, or in the ground etc. Sometimes a client may want to create an effect, or highlight architecture in a specific way. This is where the lighting designers' knowledge of lamps and light fittings is used. They use a range of computer programs(ie - AGI 32) to simulate the lights and their effect.
Sometimes they may need to design a new light fitting for a specific purpose, if an existing one is unavailable.
Often there are specific lighting design courses around, depending on where you are. These are often industry based courses that cover all aspects of lighting, the technical and the scientific bits. You can start by looking at websites of organisations such as the IALD and IES.

Question: Performing Arts- What does a lighting designer do in a dance company? HELP!!! Can you tell me what a light designer does in a dance company??
please
its urgent
what does he have to do??
what should he be able to do??
Answer: They design the lights....they will talk with the choreographer/director to find out what the overall "feel" of the piece is, and if there are any special requirements (a storm, a streetlight, a sunrise etc); decide which lights and gel colours they are going to use to achieve the effects they want; draw up a rig plan so the lighting crew can hang the lights; focus all the lights (make sure they are pointing in the correct direction, that the beam is the right size and that the colour is correct); set the light levels for each cue in the show (called "plotting" the show) and sit in on technical and dress rehearsals to make any changes that need to happen. A lighting designer needs to have a great knowledge of different types of lights and what they do, a knowledge of gel colours and how costumes will react to them (some blue gels make certain black dyes go red, for instance), and be able to achieve the look that the choreographer or director wants for the piece.
Question: Who is the lighting designer for Stephan Pyles new restaurant in Dallas?
Answer: Interesting question, I don't know. Before I retired I designed and installed most of the lighting in many of his existing places like Star Canyon, Samba Room and Aquaknox. He works very closely with Carlson (TGI FRIDAYS) he probably is using one of their designers now.
Question: Are you an outdoor lighting professional? (Designer, Installer, Contractor)? If you are an outdoor lighting professional designer, installer or contractor, and you would like to join a verified discussion group here at Yahoo, make your way to yahoo groups and join outdoorlighting . You will be asked to verify your identity before gaining admission.
Answer: o.k.
Question: Where does one find a landscape designer, a lighting designer, a builder in Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia Cana
Answer: The Annapolis Valley is an area that incorporates a lot of different towns. So a contractor in Yarmouth might not travel to Berwick. Try http://www.valleyweb.com/ to help narrow your search.
Question: Is anyone a lighting designer? I'm studying in theatre and i'm really interested in the lighting aspect of it and I havebeen for a few years, but is there really a career in it available? Is the money as bad as it seems?
Answer: Big question. First of all are you willing to travel a lot, and can you afford to? Are you able to do to school for lighting design to get into the field? Do you live in a large metropolitian area with lots of potential sites, such as NYC or LA? I'm not trying to discourage you. I think all those are valid questions. In many of the stage lighting jobs I've seen locally (I'm in electrical wholesale and have years of lighting experience) the stage lighting is often included in the lighting package that the electrical engineer designs for a new school or other facility. There might be an opportunity to consult as a specialist for a fee, but doubtful they would break out that portion as a separate engineering effort. If you were interested in lighting to the point of studying for an EE, you could join an archetectural engineering firm and work on all types of lighting. Perhaps there are opportunities in the film industry that might be of interest to you, again, if you were willing to travel. Proper lighting makes (or breaks) the mood and effect of just about anything visual. I hope you find your niche. Good luck!
Question: How much is the average salary of a lighting designer? I've looked everywhere on the internet and can only find the salary of a lighting technician. Would really help for a school presentation if anyone know the salary for a stage and screen lighting designer.

Question: Lighting Designer Jobs or similar in Perth? Im thinking about studying Lighting at WHAPPA in Western Australia Perth. People have told me that there is jobs, but is there actually enough jobs out there in Perth for Lighting Designers or similar?
Answer: It is not a particularly large field and jobs are not that common in Perth. But it is a lucrative field and an average job could land you 80K with a car and allowance. Good luck!
Question: Is it better to have a lighting designer career or a computer career?
Answer: It's better to have the career that fulfills you the most.
Question: I want to do be a scene designer or a lighting designer. What should my major be?
Answer: One suggestion:
A BFA in Advertising design is a well rounded art degree that not only focuses on design elements, but introduces you to the various techniques that you will use in set design (such as painting, printmaking, photography, illustration).
There's also a theater arts degree ~ TA is not only about acting, but where you learn all about staging, lighting, costuming, and so forth.
My instinct would be to take a major degree in Ad Design with a minor in TA. Be sure in your junior/senior years, you rack up some internship hours at a local amateur or community theater for some on-the-job experience.
Question: is there such a thing as an interior designer who only does lighting? I want someone to professionally do the lighting in my appartment but I am happy with the way I have done the furnature etc. I just think lighting is very important - is there such thing as a lighting specialist?
Answer: Lighting Designers are certified by NCQLP. A Lighting Designer is tested and can use the term "LC" in their name or title.
The IESNA is a governing body that only creates the standards for lighting levels.
Beware of anyone claiming to be a Lighting Consultant or Lighting Designer for residential who have not been certified by a governing body or accepted organization.
Interior designers and Architects do lighting design, but only as a hobby or added bonus to the entire project.
Question: I am looking to hire a lighting designer but don't know where to post an ad for this position. for LA, CA looking to hire a full time lighting designer in La, Ca,. Where can I post a hiring ad for this postiton?
Answer: Try CraigsList
Question: How do you find a contact for advice in lighting Design? Hello i often need advice on how to run a lighting design operation.
At the moment i would like to know what regulations a lighting designer needs to work to.
Thank You.
Answer: try to do an internship or call someone from a lighting place, they will talk to you
Question: Could someone show me an example of a lighting plan for a theatre performance? I'm the lighting designer and need some help in how to lay it out.
Answer: here are two links to sites with pictures of plots
http://www.starplazatheatre.com/files/lightingplot.html
http://www.hstech.org/design/lighting/ltplot.htm
exactly how yours will look all depends on how your theatre is set up and what show you're doing.
Question: Digital camera settings for photos of stage lighting? I am a stage lighting designer, and documenting my work is very important. I have a decent digital camera, it was around $300 last year. I used the automatic setting, and the night settings, and even the fireworks setting. But my photos always come out with motion blur lines. What settings do I use so I can get the clearest photos?
Answer: The colour temperature of the lamps on stages is around 3200 to 3400 degrees Kelvin. If you set your camera to those settings, you will be fine. However you said you have a $300 digital camera, this means it is a point and shoot so does not have all the controls a DSLR has.
In your case, set the white balance to incandescent and go from there. Get a meter reading on the stage and then set the camera to match those exposure settings and off "auto". I would hope that a $300 P&S camera would have shutter or aperture priority metering modes
Blur is caused by camera or subject movement.
Set the cameras ISO to its highest setting and shoot with the lens wide open. If there is too much noise, you can later process the image through a program like Noise Ninja to clean it up, but you will have little or no blur
Question: Does anyone know how to use Lighting effects to make a Theatre scene Look Black and White? I am a Lighting Designer at the University of Southern Indiana. We are putting together a student design project. For a play we are doing the Director is trying to do this Black and white change from a color scene in no more than 15 seconds. I have stated to her tha I didn't think that this was possiable to do with out budget restraints, But I was hoping someone out there would know how to get this feature accoplished by just using some simple lighting technique that isn't commonly known.
Thank you to all that respond
Answer: turn up the red gels and widen your spot, then hang a shim. it pulls the color out unless of course you are wearing red
Question: Does anyone know where I can find a designer/engineer of low voltage lighting fixtures?
Answer: Virtually every major lighting manufacturer (there are hundreds of them) make low voltage lighting fixtures. Each has their own in-house research and development team that designs low-voltage fixtures. If you are looking for well design fixtures and not those cheap Home Depot low-voltage fixtures, look at commercial lighting. Try Lithonia, Cooper, Hubbell, Lightolier, among many, many others. They will show product data sheets that will give you a good idea how they are designed. The key to designing any light fixture is in the reflector and how the reflector distributes light. The rest is simply for looks.
Question: What's a lighting designer ? it has nothing to do with lighting....
Answer: It's someone who designs the lighting for Theatre or Film, but it can also be for discos or any performance. Still photographers generally do their own lighting.
Question: Adverage salary for lighting designers? What is the adverage salary for a lighting designer with a college degree? If there are any lighting designers that see this please put your salary if you don't mind!
Answer: No way am I putting my salary up in here, lol.
You'll do just fine -- the work is out there.
If you want to go for bucks, go into the corporate world or join IATSE. Get into the movies.
hey, college boy, it's spelled "average" and the spell check button is right in front of you.
Question: Interview with an Interior Designer? I need an interview for a college assignment with a professional in the field of interior design, including but not limited to designers, furniture salespeople, furniture designers, kitchen and bath designers, lighting designers, decorative painters, window treatment designers/installers, etc.
PLEASE let me know if I can ask you the questions. It's just a short interview. Nothing but a Q&A.

ileana- Thank you! Could you have her e-mail me at mama.pants@hotmail.com so I can send the questions?
Answer: My mom is an interior designer, she will gladly answer your questions virtually.
Question: Should we use a lighting consultants? We're building on a large extension and had some input from an interior designer. She recommended strongly that we use a local lighting consultants to advice on type, placing etc of lights. We've never heard the term before and our friends think we're mad to spend money on this. Has anyone used one and if so would you recommend it?
Phew, that's a lot of questions Gare - I'll have to think about them. Makes me wonder if the LC idea is more suitable for a total new build or a suite of offices. We just don't want to make any mistakes - maybe we just need a better interior designer!
Answer: Hey Crosbie,
Good interior designers and architects can do a fair lighting layout. I hope I have not dissuaded you from making the appropriate decision. I have wired homes with 5 lights chosen by me, 10 new lights chosen by an architect, to over 400 lights with a professional lighting designer and complete home automation. They all looked great when done.
Yes and no.
The size of the addition, budget, and other things will help to determine.
Questions to answer first:
1) What is your overall budget?
2) What will the lighting consultant charge? (If you have an architect, they normally incorporate all design features)
3) What will the cost of the fixtures and layout they specify cost? (they tend to lean toward high-end, whis is great if money is not the object - see 1 above)
4) How large of an area is it?
5) How many rooms and type of rooms?
6) Does the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in your area mandate specific type(s) of lighting in certain areas?
7) At what point does it make sense to hire a consultant?
8) What other homes have they done in your area?
9) Will they provide you with a list of three people who have had comparable projects completed in the last year, people you may contact?
10) Are you looking at automated systems, such as Lutron, Litetouch, Crestron, etc?
11) What are your lighting needs, mood, accent, general area, art, scene?
Perhaps an electrical contractor proficient in homes of your home's stature could do what is needed without the designer's input, this is Design/Build. However, if you want concise competitive bids, you need to have all of the plans in place.
There are lots more. If you can modify your question (can this be done) to incorporate some of these, that would be nice.
I will be glad to be a little more specific then, if you like.
Question: what does the term light/midweight/heavyweight designer refer to? I see this all the time and it means absolutely nothing to me. I assume it has something to do with either experience or skill set. Is the banding of light/medium/heavy quantifiable in any way or is it just a loose name given to some who is ok / good / fantastic?
Answer: it is probably css code for text styles or border styles
Question: what kind of designer/business to see k to remodel exterior of home? I would like to change the exterior of my home including some structure to update it, paint, and addition of entry gates, doors, stucco, etc...as well as lighting and landscaping to tie in the whole look. What kind of person does it all? A landscape architect, interior designer, exterior architect? I need someone to design and draw plans and do it all instead of getting a bunch of different contractors.
Answer: Hi Domma,
It may be a bit difficult to find a contractor who specailizes in each of these. I would recommend getting a few free quotes to help assist with your decision...you may end up with more than one contractor and a lower price! http://www.elyfe.com/remodeling.html
Question: Is it really true that all gay men own track lighting? I heard that somewhere and I am a designer and do sell a lot of track lighting to the gays.
Answer: Yes.
Track lighting and candles.
Question: To change color in theatrical lighting, light designers will use What ??? to provide mood and setting??? This is a drama class worksheet !!
Answer: I believe it is called a skin. Anyway it's a glazed see-through object you put over the lights. You can change it to almost dark or to a light, bright color depending on the one you use.
Question: How do you join the technical theater union in portland Oregon? I want to be a lighting designer/light board operator. I have been doing lighting for 6years and I want to get into the union.
Answer: "The IATSE is the labor union representing technicians, artisans and craftspersons in the entertainment industry, including live theatre, motion picture and television production, and trade shows."

Question: What responsibilities in Theatre do to following roles have? Lighting Designer/Operators.
Sound Designer/Operators.
Stage Hand's.
Stage Manager's.
Answer: First of all, all these people work co-operatively with the director.
The lighting designer decides in consultation with the director, what the lighting will look like. It might be interior lighting in act 1, exterior early morning in winter in act 2, and exterior sunset in act 3. He/she will arrange for the lights to be set up in such a way that those effects ca be achieved. The lighting operator will work the lights during the performance so that those effects happen at the right time.
The sound designer is responsible for planning and arranging everything you hear during the performance. This could be very simple, in a small studio theatre with no microphones, it might just be playing some music while the audience assembled, playing a telephone ringing in act 1, some birdsong in act 2 and a car arriving in act 3. It could be very complex, co-ordinating microphone/amplification for spoken voice and for singing for a large cast with the orchestral music and sound effects for a big musical, like 'The Lion King'.
Stage hands work under the direction of the stage manager, building sets, moving scenery etc.
The stage manager is responsible for seeing that sets are built, furniture and props are placed correctly, and scene changes happen as needed. He/she may mark the stage with tape to indicate the positions of the furniture.
During the rehearsal period and later during the performances, he/she will let the actors know when they are needed for rehearsals, when their next performance is etc.
He/she is also responsible for obtaining and organising props. There will be a props table backstage, where all the props are kept in labelled spaces, and the actors collect their props from the table and return them their afterwards.
The stage manager often calls the actors to the stage when they are needed during the performance, and gives standby cues and 'go' cues to the sound and lighting operators.
I hope I've remembered everything, andI hope this helps.
Question: Do lighting designers for Off- Broadway productions HAVE to be Union? Such as United Scenic Artists
Answer: In general: No! But it depends what house the theater is playing in and how big it is. I'm a non-union sound designer and I've worked Off-Broadway extensively without a problem.
Question: To be able to become a freelance graphic designer what would you need? In order to become a freelance graphic designer what exactly would be the process of going about it?
Is there anyone who has worked with or is a graphic designer and would be willing to shine some light for me about this..thanks.
Answer: There will be legal requirements based on where you are – setting up a small business, I would suspect that the relevant government department will have an advice office.
But before you can consider this you need contacts within the industry and clients (one is never enough, a change of management can cancel your main source of income overnight). You will need a record of producing projects within budget and on time, be prepared to work at the drop of a hat – freelancers are often called on when time is extremely tight and agencies are unable/unwilling to throw resources at it. This makes it very difficult to take planned holidays for fear of letting down a client, it is often difficult to make a business plan or have a steady income – this makes it difficult to get business loans.
The most important thing is to get an accountant that you can trust to will manage your tax returns.
This is mostly negative – there are positive sides to freelancing but it does take perseverance and hard work.
Question: What designer makes suits with light blue pinstripes? I saw a mens suit that had light blue pinstripes spaced about an inch apart from eachother. The man wearing it said he got it in France, but I am looking for something similar in the US. Does anyone know where I can get this suit (i.e. what store/website)? And what designer/brand name (ralph lauren, etc...) makes this suit?
Thanks!!
Answer: try Steve Harvey's line of suits. they're really nice and reasonable in price

Question: What does it take do Be a Broadway Technician? What would it take to be a lighting designer or a technical director on Broadway, what kind of schooling or work experience would you need, and how long would it take for someone to get a potion like that?
Also what rate if pay would he or she be paid.
Answer: Consider going to college for Theatre Production. A good program will teach stage craft, drafting, CAD, and classes in all elements of production. I've had a great experience in undergrad at a school that doesn't have a grad program - we are able to hold all levels of leadership positions that at some schools are dominated by grad students. You probably want a BFA degree- it will be very challenging, but you will be very well prepared, and likely develop good alumni connections.
For work experience, I recommend well-known summerstock theatres. I had a great experience in the Berkshires, and there are several theatre companies there. They keep you busy, work you hard, and you have a ton of networking opportunities. This is a non-union idea that you can do during your summers during college/after college.
If you work on Broadway, you're running shows, working on an 8 show/week schedule. Another option is working with professional scenic shops such as Hudson Scenic, Showman Fabricators, or PRG Scenic. These places build the shows that get brought to Broadway, trade shows, TV...everywhere. This is a union idea.
If you decide not to be a technical director, but would rather be a stage hand, read up on IATSE/ Local One. There's a weird process for getting in, so get a head start if you want to develop a plan.
Pay rate would be determined by union. Techs are under IATSE local 1 for Broadway. Lighting Designers are represented by United Scenic Artists (I believe.)
Sorry this is a bit scattered, but there's a lot to it. Hopefully this gave you a few starting points for research.
Question: How much money do these jobs in Theater make? How much money would these jobs make in theater? per hour, yearly or % etc ;
Producer
Director
Scenic designer
Lighting designer
Costume designer
Sound designer
Production manager
Technical Director
Show control designer
Theatrical technician
It does not have to be these exact Jobs, jut the idea of jobs in theater.
It does not have to be these exact Jobs, just the idea of jobs in theater.
It does not have to be these exact Jobs, just the idea of jobs in theater.
Answer: Depends on a lot of factors. Union or non-union? Size of the company they're working for? How many shows are they responsible for?
In terms of who is highest paid, typically the producer is taking the financial risk, so his financial return is usually the greatest. Then, the director, followed by the designers. Union technicians make decent money, non-union sometimes make the lowest of anyone in the building. (one of my non-union techie friends once calculated their hours vs the salary they made and figured their hourly rate was something like 27 cents)
Hope that helps
Question: What type of studio lights, reflectors, and equipment do I need for home studio lighting? I own a Nikon D40 with a 18-55mm lens/wide angle and macro lens. I have taken beautiful photos outside with natural light, but when it comes to taking nice portraits at home-it doesn't look right. I would like to take photographs and have Rembrandt lighting on my subjects. I would like the opinions of photographers/graphic designers-and anyone else that seriously knows. Thank you very much for your input.
Answer: you don't have to spend big money on studio style lighting. you can achieve all you want to with a couple of secondhand speed lights, shoot through umbrellas off ebay and some practice.
check out the book mentioned on the link below - it will teach you all you need to know about lighting on the cheap.

Question: Which low energy lighting fixtures to choose? The story is we employed an interior designer to come up with a low energy lighting idea for our new library/music room which is 24 sq metres. She showed us a picture of some lights and had us have the electrician hang 4 wires 1.5m apart for these lights (forming a square in the centre of the ceilling). When the wires were plastered in she admitted that her fittings took only halogen bulbs -which would have made 640 watts at least!!! We parted company with her at this point but now cannot work out what light fittings would look well and work well and obviously take a low energy bulb. We've seen some ball-shaped lights and wonder whether 4 of those would look OK. Whatever we decide on is going to cost around 800 Euro upward so I'd be grateful for any thoughts.
Answer: Ask for CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamps) which will consume lesser energy in terms watts and also environmental friendly.
Question: In The newest True_Blood episode Eric wore a light blue v neck sweater, can anybody tell me the designer? This week Eric wore a light blue v-neck sweater(with a bit of blood sp;atter on it) can anybody tell me who made it?
Answer: It is from J.Crew
Question: What is the difference between a 3D designer & an interior designer ? I am art and design student and mainly interesting 3d designs like modeling, light designs. I also love to design spaces. Before looking for HE course, I have searched some 3D & interior designer jobs but find surprising result. some industries asking for 3D designer who could handle software and some architectural industries asking for 3D kitchen designer but as you search about 3d and interior designing courses then description about them is totally different then jobs, means in 3D designing you will study ceramic and sculptural studies and in interior designing courses offering study about space. So the moment I am confuse between jobs and courses. Could any one help me please to understand difference between 3D designer and interior designer?
Answer: Well the little bit I know I will share. But I don't know what you mean by "modeling and Light designs." You said you like to design spaces so that would be Interior Design which has many variations within the carreer. If you want to be a 3D interior designer you will need to have a degree in it. In order to get to those specific courses though you will have to first take basic - then advanced graphic design courses in order to become familiar with the software used to design in all of those fields. For example. An architect will use "Autocad" or "Cad3" software to design a building as well as individual rooms/offices within the structure. It's basically a software made for engineering and architectual creation.
But you can't just jump into AutoCad because it's a complicated program and you have to have an understanding of engineering and/or an architectual educational background. Someone who's end result in this field would be taking other courses in conjunction to which I'm sure involves some Math.
In 3D Interior designing which is an extension or sub-field of Interior Design they use software to create the layout of the room as well as the furniture, appliances, etc. I don't know the name of it but I know there is a special software for Interior Design. But again, in order to get to the courses that train you in these softwares you have to start with graphics and once you get past a few basic/advanced graphic design classes then you can go into specialty software classes. I just thought of a few that might be for this - it's called "Autodesk" and "Studio" ? not sure.
At least that's how they do it at my school. I'm a graphic artist and I see these classes in the semester schedules all the time and they all say - "Prerequisite must have completed advanced Photoshop or Illustrator, or InDesign courses with a grade of C or higher" My school has a 3D Design Software course program but I'm not sure what the software is called. And I was under the impression that the students taking these classes are wanting jobs in animation, film or the video gaming industry. And there are people who create these virtual tours of places on the internet. Those are the types of jobs that these 3D Software students are going for. Every year at the end of Winter semester they hold a Graphic Designers Party with all kinds of contests. The finale contest is always the 3D Software contest where they have 5-6 computers set up and these students have a timed assignment to create something in this 3D program.
What you should really be doing is talking to a counselor at your school (although sometimes they know less about the carreer fields then the student does.....) But someone at your school SHOULD know what plan of action you need to achieve your carreer goals.
You might try googling questions regarding the specific field - like ask "What software do I need to be a 3D Designer?" or "How to become a 3D Model designer? Ask it just like any other question - you will get much better results.

Question: a stage set designer wants to produce a spot of yellow light. in order to do this she must combine what colors a stage set designer wants to produce a spot of yellow light. in order to do this she must combine what colors of light?
a. red and green
b. cyan and magenta
c. blue and red
d. green and blue
Answer: a. Red and green.
Stage lighting follows the additive color model rather than the subtractive one. So, red and green make yellow... same as your RGB (red/green/blue) tv, computer monitor, etc.
Just by way of interest (should you care) Red, Green and Blue are your primary colors in additive color, while yellow magenta and cyan (choice b) are your secondaries. Red and Blue (choice c) would make magenta, and green and blue (d) would make cyan.
And, all three (red/green/blue) in equal parts would give you white light.
Question: What designer designed Selena Gomez' 2008 ALMA Awards dress? I really like it and am considering purchasing it myself. It is a pretty light blue, off white kind of color. One shoulder dress with twisted piece under the bust. I really really like it but cannot find the designer or a website where ic an buy it. Help?
Answer: She wore a Grecian-inspired one-shoulder gown by Marchesa. :)
Question: Designer Light Switch/Thermostat? Hi! I'm looking to purchase a designer light switch for a North American standard.
I wasn't able to find anything except for switch plates; I'm looking to replace the WHOLE switch, not just the cover. Has anybody had any expirience in this?
Also, i'm looking to do the same for the thermostat, does anybody have any expirience buying a designer thermostat, perhaps something with a glowing light?
Thanks,
gluki
Answer: Well, you can call a company to see if they can help you with that.
Question: Where is the pilot light on Tappan Designer Series gas oven?

Question: What are good colleges for Theater Tech (Lighting Design)? Well, it's time to start looking into colleges, I'm pretty sure that I want to be a Lighting Designer. Can anyone recommend me colleges that have good masters courses in Theater Tech? I don't really care where in the U.S., as I'm just looking around. I've heard some really good things about the schools in Boston and on the East Coast.
Also if anyone knows if there is an "official-ish" list by rating of College Masters programs, I've looked, but I'm not satisfied.
All advice is welcome. Maybe a proffessional could give some advise?
Answer: I suggest that you attend somewhere where the industry is thriving. So... that would be New York, if you want to do theatre lighting, LA if you are interested in film.
The reason that the location is more important than the school is that being there puts you in close proximity to the industry and you can start to make contacts right away. Many many times, theatre and film producers will be asking around for tech help for their professionals. College students looking to get some real life experience are natural choices for those times. Your interest in the business is already established, and they can be assured that you will work hard because you want to learn from the pros.
Find some working lighting designers and ask them what they reccommend.
Question: How do performing arts jobs relate to each other? I need to write how they are relating to each other :
drama teacher,singing teacher,dance teacher,theatre marketing assistant,musical theatre teacher,director,producer,actor/actress,make-up artist,choreographer, designer,lighting director,sound director,stage manager,broadcast presenter,musician atc.
I need to make like a diagram to show how all these jobs are related to each other.
But i don't know where to start!
Help!
btw.It's not even my homework!!!
Answer: OK. first, they're all jobs that lead to being unemployed. Second, I think the guys are supposed to be primarily homosexual, for whatever reason. Third, drugs are common.
Other than that, they're all expressive, and revolve around entertaining others.
Question: i bought photographic lighting 1500 Watts is tis enough for fashion photography? I bought the JTL1500 watt lighting system with boom for overhead lighting. I am a fashion designer and want to photograph my clothing on models. Will this be enough light or do I need something more intense like a 3000 watt system?
Answer: It should be plenty for what you are doing.
I use one Tota-Light with umbrella and a fill card (reflector) to shoot models most of the time and it is plenty. Your three light set up will be very easy to control shooting without an assistant.
You can see some of my work if you are interested. My profile here has a link to it.
