like what does the house designer do?
And what does the interior designer do?
Answer: A true interior designer with graduation from an ID program is able to space plan, remodel & tear down, submit building plans for a type 5 structure 1 story (ie a house); knows electrical, HVAC, plumbing, structure issues, building codes, cabinetry, hardware, knows surface materials, can draft, read blue prints, render drawings, etc. They can do far more than just "decorate".
A house designer is a generic term: could be a contractor, an architect, an unlicensed person, a designer, etc. Most people licensed call themselves by their license (architect, contractor etc). There is no license for "house designer".

I am thinking about becoming an interior designer when I grow up, but I just want to know what type of college do I have to go to and for how many years.I would also like to know what are the qualifications for becoming an interior designer.
Answer: You can go to a four year university with a program in interior design or there are also schools for the arts, too, that have design programs. In order to choose, you will have to decide the type of design in which you would like to specalize, residential, commercial, enviornmental, etc. Requirements vary by state, in some you must be licensed and in some you must have a four year degree to call yourself an interior designer and the qualifications vary by the type of design you want to practice, as well.
Question: What is the best designer brand that makes good quality clothes? I used to buy clothes from BCBG-Maxazria, Bebe and others after wearing them few times i noticed the quality is poor. Since than, i am not sure if designer clothes means good quality. Is there any designer brands that make good quality clothes?
Answer: Are you buying stuff from the Bebe store? Because I've been shopping there for years and all my Bebe stuff looks just as good as the day I bought it! They do make fake Bebe so maybe you got ripped off.

Question: What is a hair designer and how does if differ from a regular cosmotologist license? I have been a licensed managing cosmotologist for over 16 years and have never heard of a hair designer. I would just like to know what the main difference is and what a hair designer can or cannot do compared to a cosmotologist.
Thanks for any info : )
Answer: Hair designer is just another name for hairstylist. Some will probably say they are called this title because they are an "expert" in styling hair because of the additional education the receive after obtaining the cosmetology license. I think both are the same though.
Question: What questions can you ask an interior designer to confirm whether that person is really an interior designer? I have a person talking to me on the internet saying that she is an interior designer. Can any1 out there tell me some technical questions so that I can confirm that she is really one interior designer and not bluffing?
Answer: Hello there. For one thing, you can ask the person for a list of at least 10 of her most recent clients. Then you should meet her in a public place. Ask her to bring her complete portfolio... (of pictures) that is a fair representation of her work. The pictures should be prints... and not magazine pages ripped out. If you have her name and she tells you she is a legit business, you can call the Better Business Bureau in your city. Those are the best ways to not get scammed. And also.... if she asks for a deposit before the work is complete..... run the other way. Most reputable designers don't need to ask for money up front. Hope that helps.
Question: What is the salary of a weapons designer? I want to be a weapons designer when i grow up. Several people tell me that i will be sort of poor if i am a weapons designer. I have decided I am going to be the greatest designer in the world- why aim for competent and eventually stop trying to be better, right? Anyway, I practice a lot, read design magazines and books, check out good design online and go to exhibitions as much as possible.
Any suggestions on what else I can do to make myself a better designer?
Answer: I have wondered this myself, so I suggest contacting the people who you already admire. For instance, I think Apple Computers have the best graphic designers on the planet, and they are also shareholders with Disney in Pixar (Toy Story, etc.).
Dreamworks (Shrek, etc) is equally good.

Question: How much money does a graphic designer make in America and are there requests for a movie poster designer? I'm in metric now and I live in South Africa. Next year I'm going to a college and do a course for 2 years for Graphic Print Production and I'm going to write the international exam. After that I want to go to America and find a job for a Movie Poster designer. Are there regularly requests for such a job and how much more or less do they get paid?
Answer: hunting for a job is tough, especially if it's a long time since you last did it! I was jobless during the last couple of weeks, but I found the website in the box below which is extremely helpful in lots of ways. By taking their advice, in a couple of weeks I soon got myself a job.

Question: What is with the designer dog and teacup dog trend? I have seen so many questions in the dog section concerning so called designer dog and "teacup" puppies lately. Why on earth would anyone want to buy these overpriced mutts and runts? If you're willing to spend thousands of dollars on a dog, why not get a healthy dog from a reputable breeder? If you want a "labradoodle" or a "bugg," i'm sure you could find one at the pound.
At risk of this being reported as a rant, here's a question: What is you favorite dog breed and why?
Answer: So often I answer questions by people asking about these 'designer' dogs and when I say they're mutts, they get all defensive insisting their weenie-poo-chi thing is a breed. Especially with the puggles! They SWEAR they are an excepted breed and even have PAPERS!!! HA! So, they are either in denial or actually idiotically believe they're real breeds. Now, why they wouldn't go to a shelter for the same thing I can't explain yet? Favorite dog-Labrador, they are just all around great dogs for many tasks.
Question: What is the convention for an interior designer to quote wardrobe area? An interior designer quoted, in the cost estimate, the area of a wardrobe to be 63 sqft. The frontal dimensions of the finished wardrobe are 5' x 9'. Based on experience with other interior designers, I was expecting the wardrobe to be 7'x9' (=63sqft). I thought that's the convention for costing a wardrobe by area.. measure the elevation width and height and multiply the two.
Is this correct?
Answer: Rate per square feet
Question: Are designer jeans and shoes important for a modeling open call? I'm going to some modeling agencies next month and am planning on wearing jeans, a tank top, and heels but I'm not sure if I should break the bank on designer jeans and shoes. If you think designers would be important, I'd really appreciate it if you could give some examples of specific jeans and shoes that aren't going to cost too much.. they need to be simple but very fitted (nothing flashy). Thank you!
Answer: Nobody cares what kind of jeans and shoes you have on. An agency is judging you by your height, body type and facial features, not how you dress. You just want a pair of jeans that fit you well so they can see your hips and the length of your legs - so any dark skinny jeans are best

Also, I was wondering how could I possibly start a small business over the internet and if it is a good idea?
Also, I want to know if you can simply go to a four year college like Pierce and not an university in oder to become a designer? Moreover, what is the schooling like?
Answer: You can start a web business EASY!! You can do it for sure.
All you have to do is have a product (aka-your clothes that you designed), get a website, and make sure that people know what your the name of your site is, what you sell, and how good you are!
As for becoming a designer and going to skool, I don't know much about that. I'd say that you should Google it and see what you find.
Good Luck! =~)
Question: What do you think of hiring a interior designer for a new house? Just bought a house, find a bit lost at how to arrange and decorate. Thinking of going to professional designer. Has any one having used interior designer before?
Answer: You mean you are not broke after buying the house? Good for you. If you have a LOT of money left over that you want to dispose of, a decorator may be your thing. They can be reeeeaaal pricey. They also like to recommend very pricey materials and fixtures. However, some are capable if doing very nice things that will make coming home to your new place very pleasant. My only sage advice on the issue is to make sure that you and the designer are on the same wave length. Make sure you find one that is into making you comfortable with what you will have to live with when they are done. Picture this: Spending a bunch of money, the job is done, and a couple of weeks later realizing that you feel like you live in someone else's house. Some designers like to exert their artistic flair and their own tastes a little too much.
Question: How do you become a international top fashion designer? My dream is to become a international fashion designer. I want to open my own company. I want my future company to be as popular as Gucci, Chanel.. What is the steps to become a international fashion designer?
Answer: go on project runway
Question: What is a way to become a graphics designer? I'm in highschool and I would like to become a graphics designer designing things with a computer for advertising.
I am unsure of which courses to take.
For sure, I am taking art, but what else is needed?
Also, which college would you recommend?
What kind of experience do I need to become a graphics designer?
Answers would be appericiated!
Answer: Since you are still in high school, try to find a part-time job at a local print company (even something corporate like Kinko's) - this will familiarize you with many different technologies, such as plotters and software. This will also give you a good contact base for your future, as many designers bring their work to printers since their companies generally do not have these resources.
As for colleges, ask each university you are interested in for a media packet on their art/graphics/new media programs. You can even do this with a simple phone call, and they will mail this packet to you.
Any experience you can gain on your own is helpful. Try to get demos of computer graphics programs if your high school does not offer them. The more you work with any program, the better.
This career is fun and creative, but there are also other skills you will need, such as interacting with a client, meeting deadlines (highly important!), and possibly even selling your talents to potential clients.
Build an impressive portfolio (ask you art teachers) and with luck and hard work you'll be on your way. Always remember, however, "Work to live, not live to work" :)
Question: Where to I start to become a Fashion Designer? I am in middle school and I really want to be a fashion designer. Where do I start, how can I get designer skills, and more things that will help me?
Answer: Take some art classes. They are really helpful!
I'm a senior in high school and it's my first year taking an art class and I regret not taking them earlier.
Also sketch clothes. I've been sketching since I was 11 or 12.
You can also take old clothes you no longer want and make new clothes with them. Learn how to sew. I sew by hand better than I do with a sewing machine.
You can also look into designers and you can read teen vogue.
Hope I helped!
Question: What's the difference between a landscape designer and a landscape architect? What's the difference between a landscape designer and a landscape architect? Also, how do you become a landscape architect/landscape designer?
Answer: Well this is one of those questions where the answer has to be a bit vague...
A landscape designer is someone that generally only works with plants and 'softscaping' only theoretically designing or including structures such as walls and pathways. A designer can provide you with a quite complex landscape plan.
A landscape architect is more inclined to include very detailed information on the 'hardscaping' specifying details about the structure of a wall or paving. An architect will provide a highly detailed landscape plan drawn to scale & including specification etc.
Add to this a landscape engineer who will add construction detail & absolute specifications (e.g. - pier holes to be 300mm wide by 500mm deep with 100mm bed of 20mm clean drainage aggregate in the base etc etc)
Soooo... a landscape designer may well be a landscape architect & vice versa.
It could also be said that all landscape architects are landscape designers but not all designers are architects...
Hope this helps :)

Question: Can you become a designer out of nothing? I recently want to become a designer, but I want to ask how do you start? Is there anyway without having to get a degree and get the designer's job?
I'm not sure of what kind of designer I want to be, maybe like designing posters for commercials or design buildings...
I know I sound random, but I really want to know how to start!
Any good advices?
Answer: If you're artistic, it's important that you practice, practice, and practice some more.
For posters, CD covers, and tshirts, you don't neseccarily need a degree in Graphic Design, but it really does help in getting a job. For buiding Design you definetly need a degree in either Interior Design or Architecture, becuase there are certain licenses to be one of these types of professionals.
I'd pick some do-it-yourself books on Amazon.com that you're interested in (read the reviews) and maybe a Photoshop program. This type of software is great for graphics and drawing, and the better understanding you have of it, the better off you'll be.
Question: How do you hire a designer for your farm on Facebook Farmville? My farm is a mess and needs to be organized. Can you hire a designer?

Question: What is the best fashion designer for men? What is the best fashion designer for men? I mean like what is the hottest/sexiest/just plain best. What about the most affordable?
Answer: Kenneth Cole, Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Mr. Ford, Hugo Boss, Armani, Sean John, Calvin Klein, Brooks Brothers, Jack Wills, DKNY, Yves Saint Laurent, Fendi, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta.
Question: How does hiring an interior designer work? I just purchased a home and I need help picking paint, furniture, etc. How does it work when you do a consultation with a designer? Do they come out to your home and tell you ideas? What if you don't like their ideas?
Answer: It helps if you have some idea of what you like. Go thru magazines and pull pictures of what appeals to you. If you hate certain colors or styles, be sure to include those details in a list of preferences. Usually you have them come to your home, and you discuss budget and your and the designer's ideas. Some do a free estimate, some charge for their time to meet with you, it depends. Either way, you should be consulted every step of the way, so the outcome will not be a surprise. A reference sketch to show furniture placement, color and design will help you to give the go ahead. Be involved in the process, so if you don't like something, you usually have a return policy timeframe.
Question: How can I get a designer to come to my house and help me redo my basement? I'm not very creative, so I need help with ideas for my basement. I want to hire a personal designer, but I don't know where to do this, how much it costs, or how it works.
Answer: if there is a designer school in your area like Baker College, call and ask for a student about ready to graduate and see if they want to take on the project inexpensively.
When you go to a restaurant, or upscale grocery store, ask who designed it and call them.
What does your family like to do? If they are all men and boys, make it like a work shop theme with tool carts for end tables, brushed steel for furniture, and so on, or if they are into sports, use old lockers and give it a locker room feel with benches for the coffee table. If you have girls- do you want a garden theme with lattice walls? and a "secret garden" hiding spot?
My basement is a rec room with only a ping pong table, and laundry room- it is not a place to hang out.
Question: What does it take to be a fashion designer? I would really like to be a fashion designer but i want to know if you can be successful? And who is your favourite fashion designer?
Answer: you must always be in the know of the hotest fashions one day there in the next there not you have to be one step ahead you have to have a natural as well as edjucated sence for fashion and design good luck
Question: How likely is it to become a fashion designer with college experience? When I am older I want to be a fashion designer and go to college to be one too. I'm 11 now, so how likely would it be to become a fashion designer with college experience?
Answer: One of the fantastic things about fashion careers -- you don't need a college degree. Now, it's VERY important to go to college (for other reasons along with this) and getting a degree in fashion certainly won't hurt, but with all the fashion design computer programs, high school fashion classes, and more, it's pretty easy to launch a fashion line. For example, startingaclothingline.com lets wou order software and gives you info. Actually, with you parents/gaurdian permission, you could order that, set up a website (fairly cheap, see startingaclothingline.com for more info), and viola! I suggest that you explore that website and talk to your family. Remember, start small and think big. If you can stick to your dream, most likely you'll achieve it.
Question: What are some men's designer clothing brands with styles similar to Abercrombie? My friend is 19 and has dressed in Abercrombie for the past 5 years or so and is wanting to find some new clothes that are less label-y. He likes fashionable things but not fancy or anything. Tshirts, jeans, hoodies, and jeans mainly. Things that are like, more mature than Abercrombie clothing that are associated with high school and college kids, but not old man wear. Also, what does it take to be a fashion designer? The clothes I make are inspired by the 60's pop art , the 80's, and some vintage styles. I like to make clothes that are really fashionable but wearable too, and i have made some handbags. Is that good enough or should i be more creative?

Answer: i don't know-- it might be tricky but you can still do it! Follow your dreams :D
Question: How can you become a fashion designer or model? I'm only in 6th grade, but I have a knack for fashion. I've always wanted to be a fashion designer or model, and now's the time to make my dream come true. Please tell everything you know.
If some people think my age is too young, go ahead and tell me, but this is my dream and has been for as long as I can remember.
I can't get a degree since I am too young for one. So, please don't answer with "Get a degree."
Everyone tells me I'm pretty enough to be a model and they tell me I should model.
Answer: You CAN start preparing to be a model right now. Anyone who tells you differently knows not what they are talkinga bout. Clueless at best. I am guessing that you must be around the age of 11. So you can start taking care of your skin, hair, your body. Practice posing in the mirror. Modeling isn't all about being pretty. Some of the ugliest girls are very successful models and you know why because they know how to transform. How tall are you? How is your weight? Are you real, real thin? Are you atleast 5'7 for your age. Models are usually 5'8- 6 foot with some exceptions but agencies will take a girl your age who is 5'7 because she is still growing in some agencies opinions. What everyone tells you and what an agent might tell you are two totally different things my dear. If you are 5'2 right now, you might not be able to become a model. If you can get to the height of atleast 5'6 by the time you are 13 you will have a good chance, and with the right look. Whatever that is supposed to mean. Try learning all the different modeling agencies, the models and designers. What are the fashion capitals? Where do you live? Are you willing to travel? You can go to models.com for information on agencies in your city. But if you aren't in a big City you will eventually have to either live in a model house in that city and you do have to pay. I will warn you not to think you are going ot be a supermodel over night. You might not even become one at all. But you might become a supermodel at the same time. Its a real, real tough industry and it can either make you or break you. Seriously...Watch out for scams because there are a lot of scams out here waiting to prey on young girls like you so whatever you do you gotta take your parent with you. Also, remember if any agent tells you to pay or get naked RUN, RUN, RUN!!! As far as models.com, I do not recommend you joining the forums and speaking with any of the stage moms and other idoits. Don't post any pics up there either. I have NEVER in my life posted a picture up there because I don't need their approval as a source for me beginning my career like those other folks do. Trust, their UGLY daughters can say what they want about someone but when someone talks about their UGLY daughter it is a different story. So, I suggest you just go on there and search and not interact with those jobless sad people lol. This is for fashion modeling
You can actually start sending out to an agency once you hit 13 years old.
Okay... as for Fashion Design. You need to start drawing. Study the fashion magazines as well. Learn about Croquis, the fashion figure, whats in whats not. I recommend Fashion Sketchbook by Bina Abling and 9 Heads. There are a ton of fashioin books out here but those two ar eth eones that helped me. I have a couple of more fashion books as well but those two are the best. You can also learn to sew meanwhile. Try to find the different fashion schools F.I.T. Fashion Institute of Technology. Cheap. I take a course there now. I finished college in Business Management with a Bachelors Degree so now I am just focusing on my career. I used to go to Parsons School of Design but they are crazy expensive. If you can afford it. GO!! I love that school. Both are in New York City. You can also try FIDM in California. This is when you get older. For now, try to find different afterschool programs that are dedicated to drawing. You can also learn by yourself. A lot of designers were self taught and did not go to school. A lot of them did go to school. Its about how good you are and not where you learned and developed your skill. You are only in the 6th grade so if I were you I will just focus on learning how to draw fashion figures and clothing. I would also try a little bit of sewing but not right now. Study the magazines. You can prepare to go to a Fashion High School. I just know of Fashion Industries High School in New York City. Just focus on drawing for now and learning who the different designers are, where they went to school etc... Knowledge is power and its very impressive. Do the same thing for modeling as far as learning about the different agencies and the different models and how they got started. Some of them went from rags to riches. Some of these stories of Fashion Designers and Models are very inspirational. Its very funny how you see so many girls on America's Next Top Model talking about they want to be a Model and they know NOTHING about the Fashion Modeling Industry. They don't know any of the designers, barely any of the models. Its really sad how these girls have a distored view of the modeling industry.
Who knows, if you ever become a famous model you can just use your status to have your own clothing line. I mean, I honestly don't believe its being a REAL fashion designer but at the same time you are still living out your dreams and you will be able to model your own clothing. Something I wanted to do way back when. Now I am just focusing on designing.
P.S. When and if you become a model watch out for all of the pressure. There is a lot of drugs and sex and all kinds of things in this industry and its a dog eat dog industry. It can eat you up and spit you out, keep on moving like you never existed. There is a lot of back stabbing. This is for Fashion Designing too. So I just wanted you to be aware so that if anyone pressures you to do anything you are smart enough not to. No matter what. No matter what anyone promises you.
Best Wishes and Good Luck!!
Question: What are the laws on selling designer inspired handbags? When I go on vacation I always see people selling designer handbag knockoffs. I want to set up shop and sell some but want to make sure its legal. I would of course tell people they are not the real thing, just inspired to look like the expensive ones.
Also, where could I order lots of these purses?
Thanks.
Answer: Selling "any" counterfeit item in the US is illegal, even if you tell people they aren't real you're still violating the laws in the US. However, as long as the purses don't have the same logo, name, etc. it can be sold. To order similar purses try putting words like "inspired by handbags" "designer handbags" and so forth.
