Question: architecture engineering? how much do they charge for a 1400 squar ft place commercial area cafe
Answer: Architects - (not architectural engineering) will charge about 5-8% of the total construction budget, more for smaller projects, less for larger projects.
i..e remodels cost less than new construction because there is less construction cost.
You can also look for verification in MEANS Facilities construction cost data, but it is essentially the same.
If you are asking for the the structural/architectural engineering of the same project, they get paid typically out of a percentage of the architect's already negotiated fee.
Question: What are some ideas for a high school Engineering/Architecture club? So I'm thinking of starting an Engineering/Architecture club at my high school and I need some ideas. I want to be a civil engineer myself so I'd like to focus mostly on CE/architecture but to just make the club more broad I'd do general engineering.
So far the only ideas I have are having guest speakers come in and also doing habitat for humanity (and that's only 16 yrs+). I'm up to any logical ideas!
Answer: Guest speakers are a good idea. You can also have like projects to do, like in my school one of the engineering classes did a model of a house with wood, a model car, a water rocket, a balsa wood bridge.
Question: What innovations in the architecture and engineering of sanctuaries are? What innovations in the architecture and engineering of sanctuaries are distinctively Roman? Name some Roman influences on American architecture.
Answer: The Colliseum which is recognized by the hidraulic fluids, the retractive roof, the division of the people in the stadiums and the building of the roadways in all Europe.
The Baths for all people.
Question: UCLA good for architecture or engineering? Do I have a good chance at that college? Is UCLA a good college for Architecture or Engineering. I really want to go to UCLA because a lot of my relatives go there and they say its great. I'm not sure if I can go there now because I've been mostly getting A's and B's and I heard most UCLA students were 4.0 gpa students their whole life. My GPA is usually around the 3.5 range. I do play tennis, but I'm not in the team yet. I am currently taking Algebra 2 in sophmore year and I plan to take summer math courses to work my way up to calculus my senior year. If I do get into calculus, will it raise my chance in becoming accepted to UCLA and become successful in an architecture career. Sorry for making this so long >.<, starting to worry about college after getting a couple of B's on math tests because I'm planning to get straight A's throughout the rest of my highschool years.
Answer: You will need to get higher than 4.0 weighted to have a chance. You'd have to take a lot of AP's and honors courses to boost the grades. Also need to do extremely well on the SAT's. It's a great college for architecture and engineering and is one of the best ones out there.
Question: what is the different between architecture and architecture engineering? I have deciced to study architecture in university. i really dont know what they do!! i want to design houses, colleges, hotels. not inside the buildings.
plz can someone tell me what they call? is is architecure?
Answer: Sounds like architecture.
- It is an extremely wide field where one can become involved in design of everything from gutter details to cityscapes. Giving shapes to buildings is probably what you will be spending most time on during your studies. Professional life is less predictable.
Enjoy!
Question: Any more advances in architecture and engineering? What other advances can we expect, if any, in architecture and engineering? Have we reached our limit for our lifetimes?
Also, do you have any info regarding future building techniques?
Answer: nano materials ,active and passive systems.
massive composites computer design structures
active thermal electric conversion [absorbs heat and converts to 3 GHz (invention company needed, better current multiplier 3GHz to 60/50Hz]
thin film solar PV,
Solar PV windows,
Need better power transmition design and materials of large structures.
energy on demand systems. at needed location.
low alpha beta trickle charge generators.[4]
effective use of large thermal mass, and normal air convection.["green "buildings with out heater or air conditioning ,vents. varry 3-4 deg F all year.]
The posablities are endless .
the spectrum diferential of EM has barley been scrached.
Any difference in matereral ,energy level,frequency,..... is a posablity.for better energy or material ,active or pasive system.
Just some thoughts.
Question: do architects make good money? what is the difference between architecture and engineering? i'm trying to figure out what i want to major in for college. i'm going into my second year of college and still don't know what i want to do. i've always been interested in house plans and designing houses on the sims game. haha. but i wanted to know the difference between architecture and engineering and if they pay well.
Answer: If you plan on becoming an architecture major, you might already be behind if you haven't declared this by now. Schools can be very selective with this major and require students to have a portfolio (usually from high school) to be accepted into their program.
Architecture tends to deal with buildings, building systems, space planning, circulation of people and aesthetics. It is almost a MUST to have some decent drawing skills and somewhat of an artistic nature to get into architecture. Anyone can play the Sims....the real world is different.
Engineers are problem solvers. Depending on what type of engineering you enter, the disciplines offer different career paths. I was similar to you and had to make this decision as well. Engineers are typically good at science and math. You may want to consider architectural, civil or mechanical engineering.
Architectural engineering is probably your best fit since this deals with the interaction of building systems. You aren't responsible for design of the actual building, but could determine how many of its components work. If you just want to make buildings look nice from the outside, straight up architecture might be better for you.
The joke is, architects and engineers are two professionals who argue the most. Architects come up with crazy designs and the engineers have to make them work. Where an architect leaves no space in a building, the engineer needs the most space lol. It can be hard to get really far in architecture so you need to get plenty of experience. Engineering experience is important too, but the profession is a little more stable. Both pay well but both have potential for putting in crazy hours, espeically if you are an architect or an engineer in construction.
Question: Taking architecture and engineering at the same time? I'm wondering if it is possible, meaning i'll come out of it alive, to take architecture and engineering (civil) at the same time. A friend's cousin advised me not to and i know i should take that into consideration, but darn my ego, im just too ambitious to let just one opinion sway me. has anyone here ever done what i want to do? please give any suggestion.
Answer: It's always good to have ambition, but try focusing on Civil Engineering first. That way in case you're not accepted into Architecture you have something to fall back on.
Question: what is the difference of Architectural Engineering and architecture? I dont know which is the best to take up in college. is architecture the same as Architectural Engineering but just alot more to it? If you can give me a list of what both of them does.
Answer: The answer is what (each) of them does. That depends upon the company and its job requirements. They are similar as you may surmise from the titles. Get the college information on exactly what courses are core to each major. Architecture covers a lot of topics and most architects I worked with in heavy industrial companies were more focused on application rather than aesthetics. However the field changes depending upon the demand for architects. Some good architects are very busy with remodeling and renovation of existing structures. Others do only homes and I know some who specialize in things like hospitals which are rather specialized fields and the training will be more when you get the job and learn how the architectural firm works. So the college will have its own ideas on what you need to learn and what other classes are available. But your college record will tell a future employer whether you have had the necessary education for the jobs they have available. In many cases either major will satisfy the job requirements.
Question: We are picking our major for high school, and i want to be a preschool teacher what do i pick? here is the list of majors!

so yeah, my SOCIAL STUDIES teacher told me to pick SOCIAL STUDIES if i want to be a teacher Pshh, so..yeah please help!
Answer: I would say Art, Language Arts, or Social Studies.
Question: Becoming a structural engineer? I've become interested recently in becoming a structural engineer and I'm researching the steps necessary to enter the profession. I have a Physics degree (Astrophysics to be precise) and an interest in architecture... and recently experience in the construction trade. I read somewhere that a highly-numerate science graduate may be able to get a structural engineering job and training without having to go back to uni and study engineering specifically. How likely is it that I would be hired with a physics degree? Is it a good idea to get a masters degree anyway? Is it possible to train for a masters while working for a company?
I know that now is not the best time to be looking for jobs. How available are structural engineering jobs at the moment?
Experience or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
Answer: It would probably be very difficult to find a job doing structural engineering with only a physics degree. The principles of structural analysis and design are based on the laws of physics, so you wouldn't have a hard time learning them. However, you still HAVE to LEARN these principles. Although you will surely learn many things working in a structural design firm, they will not teach you the very basics, you are expected to know these already. Actually, you will probably be expected to know much more than just the very basics, so yes a Masters degree is recommended.
Look at it this way, in the US most structural design or consulting firms will require you to have an EIT (engineer-in-training) license for an entry level position. The EIT test is written for engineering graduates, so you will not be able to pass it if you only have a physics degree and no additional engineering background or training.
Lastly, you mentioned you were in the construction trade and an interest in architecture. Please be aware that structural engineering is NOT construction OR architecture. You could work along architects and or contractors depending on what kind of structural work you do, but your duties will be different from theirs. Make sure you fully understand what structural engineers do before you decide to get a Masters degree in structures.

Answer: They all sound like a PG-13.
Question: Is there such profession of a purely visual architect, who does not have knowledge of structural engineering? I do enjoy drawing up concepts for buildings, and further developing them visually. Is there such a profession for this, where someone who designs the concept can work with a structural engineer to help realise the concept? I do not have any training in architecture, but do in art and graphic design.
Would it be a silly thing to suggest that a not so artistic engineer could be found, to collaborate to realise good architecture?
Answer: James,
In history past the master builder was the visionary, architect, engineer, and construction manager. Although those master builders still exist in some forms today, it is rare to find that role held by a single person. What you described actually fits a modern model of architecture design. I believe you would be in a perfect position to continue to develop your passion for design and look into a career of architecture or other type of design work.
Frequently a client is looking to create a product, in our case a building, he or she will seek out a team of professionals to bring this to reality. They will hire an architect for the master plan and if they are happy with the design they will move forward toward construction. At this point either the client or the architect will secure engineering services to help design the physical aspects of the buildings that the architect may think about, but not actually design such as the structure, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, earthwork, etc.
As an architect becomes more experienced, they get a feel for all of these trades and can help incorporate their needs in with the original design. But, it is good to remember that in many buildings the architect is bringing art and functionality together in a marriage of materials and services.
I would suggest looking into architecture programs for college and keep honing your design creativity and also your different mediums of expressing design (pen, pencil, computer, physical models, etc.) Study the history of architecture, visit both old and new buildings in your town, make plans to travel to see world class architecture near where you live and beyond! Enjoy this journey, it sounds like it might be created for this specific outlet of skill and desire.

Question: Should a Teaching degree move to a graduate certificate or Master's degree like it is in some European states? Currently in America, we have the MAT (or MEd) option, for people whose undergrad degree wasn't education. I know teachers who did it this way, and dare I say many are more ready to be a teacher than people who did it like I did, the traditional 4 year BSEd, and start teaching at 22 with no real life experiences.
50 years ago, a law degree was an undergrad degree too, and they moved to a graduate degree.
Architecture and some Engineering professions are also considering moving to Master's level for certification.
100 years ago, even Medicine (now MD) was an undergraduate degree.
Is it time we move on to a graduate school to train professional educators.
Answer: I think the more well-educated a teacher is the better qualified they are but I also think it takes interpersonal skills to teach. It is also important to screen teachers so we know they are in the profession for the right reasons (re: recent teacher scandals).
Ex: I had a college instructor who had a PhD yet for the life of her (and her high credentials) she could not teach us what she knew in Finance. She was not the only teacher I came across in the same predicament and interestingly enough the other teacher was also female.
Question: is it true that architecture do not need training in engineering?
Answer: It's good to have a functional knowledge of engineering to prevent redlining when you design professionally, but no, architects do not need training in engineering. In less populated areas, there are even self-taught architects with no formal college who migrated from being a building contractor to a turnkey designer.
Question: Architectural Engineering PE Exam? I am planning to take the Architectural Engineering PE exam. For preparation, I have found only one referene book "Principles and Practice of Engineering, Architectural Engineering Sample Questions and Solutions" by AEI. Are there any other good review books out there for Architectural Engineering PE exam?
I am not trained as a architectural engineer. I have a BS in Ocean Engineering and a MS in Architecture, and have been working in building engineering field for a while.
Any advices are appreciated.
Thanks a lot
I have been working under PEs for six years now. I have passed my EIT and am preparing for PE exam.
Answer: As far as my understanding goes you can not even apply to take a PE exam until you have worked under a PE for a minimum of 5 years. Also you need to pass the FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam or called the EIT, Engineer in Training. There are a lot of books to prep you for that test but it is not an easy test, there are also prep classes offered at most local universities. Not 100% sure if this applies to your field but it does to me in Electrical Engineering. Hope it helps.

Question: Would someone please tell me plainly about 2 Engineering categories? I need to KNOW what category of Engineering I'm doing here!!! I keep getting conflicting advice and it's keeping me from focusing on what course of action to start my own Home Designing Business!!! I have no formal training...just plain talent. Please help!
I love drawing and designing floor plans and houses.
This is what I do: I design a floor plan and fill it in according to my creativity. Then I imagine and create a 2D drawing of what the house would look like on the outside. Sometimes I'll pick a room and draw the interior design and furnishings of that room.
I've been told it was Drafting. Then I was mainly told it was Mechanical Engineering for a long time. Then I was told it was Civil Engineering! I was told I didn't need to spend 5-6 years getting a Degree and Certification (for Architecture). Then I was told that I should. I'm confused.
By the way, I don't want to build bridges roads and do surveying!
Answer: You have to ask yourself what you enjoy doing most. From the info on your questrion, three propfessions are involved. Those who design floor plans are architects. (the draftsman simply draws, based on the design of the architect). the person who builds houses are civil engineers or building contractors. you definitely need some kind of license to do this kind of job. The person who picks a room, and designs the interiors and furnishings of the room is an interior designner. I don't know if this needs a licenses in the US ( in our country Philippines, you can do it without a license, although the big accounts go to licensed outfits, the designers are graduates of a fine arts or architecture course).
I hope this helps to clear the confusion.
Question: Can a civil (Structure) engineer work as an architect?(If he trains and study enough about architecture)?
Answer: A civil engineer doesn't do structures, the do the grading plans and things prior to the structure...
a structural engineer can work as an architect because the architect does the designing and the structural makes sure it can stand, so yes you can.
Question: What is the difference of Architecture and Engineering ? Architecture is the only one who Draw and plan Buildings, while Engineering is the one who measures and plan the materials that should be used.
Answer: The first is an artistic discipline and the second is an applied science discipline, but other than that, they are both involved with building systems in some way or form, though they have different dimensioning systems. Engineers (well, there are many kinds of engineers) usually have to take more science, architects more art, but they will often work closely on building projects or even virtual building projects.
Question: What's the difference between architecture and architectural engineering?????? what classes/courses would i take in each of them?
can you switch from civil engineering or environmental engineering to architecture because in our country, if you are sent on a scholarship, you can switch from majors of the same branch like engineering is its own branch, medicine is its own branch etc.. and you can move up or down from these branches..
sorry, i know everyone asks these questions but i'd like it if someone experienced knows. Thankyou.
Answer: ones more focused on the loads and forces involved with their design, like a structural engineer. the other is more artistic.
you can change from one major to any major you want...the question is "will the courses transfer". from civil engineering, probably most of them wont
Question: What kind of career can I get by majoring in civil engineering and minoring in architecture? I know i enjoy both engineering and architecture so i am studying both, but i dont really know what kind of career i can make out of them and I cant find any sites that give me any information.
Also i know that there are architectual engineers and i was wondering what the difference is between that and what i am already doing?
Answer: I've known a few people who have done this, it's a lot of work, basically you'll get a civil engineering job in the realm of architecture. So you'll end up with an architectural engineering job or a structural engineering job most likely.
Civil engineer is kind of a blanket description of a whole bunch of jobs. You could design roadways, water distribution systems, be an environmental engineer, design bridges or buildings, and so on. As an architectural design building components, you would work with architects to make sure their plans are to spec or code, and you might help them gain LEED accreditation. Some architectual engineers are very math & science and by the book, while others look for another outlet for creative design. It really depends on how you take it, and what kind of job you eventually get.
good luck,
Question: Is it a good idea to study both Civil Engineering and architecture? I love both Civil engineering and Architecture. Im undecided to which im going to choose. But if there is a possible way to study both, then count me in! ..... Civil engineers and architects have always worked together, but isnt it an advantage if one person could be both?
I dont mean at the same time. I would obtain a bachlors in Civil Engineering, and once Ive finished Id study Architecture. Is this a good idea or is there a better way?
Answer: The fields are definitely related but are a great deal different. Civil engineers study everything from transportation planning and logistics to environmental safety and regulation. I think there's a great market for civil engineering considering our country's (assuming you're in the US) logistics, transportation, and environmental issues. I'm not sure how much stimulus money related work you'll get though ;).
If you enjoy working with your hands and have a talent for conveying your thoughts into actual drawings, structures, or products, then you'd probably enjoy architecture or industrial design. Expect to spend a great amount of time on detail. I think you'd be fine to try civil engineering first and decide what you'd rather do after that.
Question: what is the difference between Civil Engineering and Architecture? I am a sofemore in high school and i am doing a paper on Civil Engineering and Architecture.. and i need help to know the differences and similarities
Answer: I'll start up with Architecture (I take up Architecture in College and planning to to take engineering too).
Architecture is an art and science of building. It is the basic definition of it. It involves in planning, designing and construction that's why it's science. We need to know the technical aspect to build the structures. (THIS IS CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF). We study the wind path, solar path, existing terrain vegetation and structures. ecological impact of building. We acquire these data to address comfort within the structure.
We also have this term "Imagineering" which means that we evolve our ideas, plans, concepts into reality through engineering. Stressing the point that it's both art and science. Although there are designs that are yet purely imaginative. . . .But may some day be real. It could start out that way.
AS to ART, building design can be whimsical or formal reflecting designers' philosophy and ideals. It could reflect certain times general philosophy, belief and social behavior. Architecture address mans desires to connect with their gods and be one with the community they belong. It involves beauty.
Vitruvius answer it all by his book De Architectura : “firmitas, utilitas, venustas” (strength, utility and beauty). Architecture must be firm, stable. Architecture must be functional. It must serve it's purpose whether it be a monument, a staduim, simply a kiosk or a waiting shed. Architecture must pose beauty whether it be beauty emphasizing natural materials, classical or minimalist.
Where as CIVIL Engineering, focuses on technical aspects of building - The math that evolves in structures - tensile stress, compressive stress, elasticity. momentum, etc. They dealt more on stability and functionality of structures. Plus the civil comes from latin civilis meaning citizen. They involve civic works such as roads, highways, bridges. Although architects can also design road network for community planning. Engineering is highly needed with this can kind of stuff.
Both professions design, plan and involve in construction. They can both become construction managers. They all follow the building code. Then, where is the thin line between these professions?
Architects are authorized to perform architectural works - floor plans, elevation of buildings, sections, landscaping, building materials, interior ( they may require another license). It's the over-all look of the building.
Whereas Civil Engineers (Structural engineers) involves structural works as such building foundation, footing, trusses, what sizes and types of metals, etc. You got the idea! It's about the stability of the structure!
Architects and Civil engineers comprises from one another so that the structure where in fact viable for actual building.
Question: Would doing a combined Engineering and Architecture degree give me more options? I was thinking of doing just architecture, but after discovering that architects aren't really paid that well and do a lot of hard work, would it be better to study engineering too? I'm not interested in doing just an engineering degree, because I don't find it that interesting.
This degree at Sydney uni looks like a good way to study what I want to do but to also expand my options after (and maybe earn more money!) But I'm not sure. Do you agree?? Help!
Answer: Even if you do a double degree in Architecture/Engineering, you will still have to decide which career path you will take: architecture or engineering. If you go down the architecture path, having some understanding of the structural parts will definitely be of benefit to you as a designer. However, if you decide to go into engineering ( civil I presume) then you won't find the creative outlet as a structural engineer for example.
The combined degree certainly opens up your opportunities after you graduate. Architecture is far less stable as a career path, while a civil engineer has many more options available both here in Australia and overseas. It's definitely worth doing. I will declare here that I am doing a combined engineering/law degree ( 2 more years to go), and found that I prefer engineering ( civil) over law, but I can see that having a good understanding of law will give me the edge as an engineer.
Hope this helps.
Question: Should i pursue engineering or architecture in college? I am a 16 year old girl in my junior year of high school. I really enjoy physics, math and art and was hoping to go into either architecture or civil engineering. I was wondering which would be better and why.
Answer: The person who linking the job outlook websites for you gave you some valueable info you should read.
Architecture has always been a highly competitive field (well at least since I graduated college with a degree in civil engineering) and they are among the worst hit with this economy. If you are extremely creative and smart and see yourself going to an Ivy League school and such (basically being amongst the most competitive), then I wouldn't rule it out, especially if you are very interested in art cause architecture is way more artistic than civil engineering is. Otherwise, just be aware you may have a tough time finding a job or may end up designing really boring things like a bathroom facility at a park versus a large commercial tower.
Personally, as a civil engineer, if I could do it again, I'd go into a medical field instead if you like science. Their job prognosis is fantastic, especially with Obama's new plan. If I had wanted to become a doctor, I would have picked an undergrad degree that I could get a decent job in if I failed to get into med school (not biology or some other science where you really need at least a masters in to make it).
Question: Do we have the architecture/engineering to build a pyramid like the Egyptions? by pyramid, i am refering to the Great Pyramid of Giza.
also, please include a source.
Answer: sure, any good construction firm could do this. It's just money.

Question: Architecture or Mechanical Engineering, which is a better field of study to go into? I am a student at a local community college and after i get my basics out of the way i am going to go to a University, and was wondering which is a better career field to go into, Architecture or Mechanical Engineering?
Answer: both of them...
Question: Should I double major in architecture and architectural engineering or what? I'm going to college next year, and I really want to consider my major now. I love both math and art, and I figure since architectural engineering is the math side and architecture is the art side, it would be good to do a double major, but I'm afraid it would be too tough. I'm also considering a major or minor in environmental engineering so that I can design "green" buildings. What would be the best choice?
Answer: Major in just Architecture Engineering! " Architecture Engineering covers borth "architecture" and "engineering" so you get the best of both worlds. Dont minor in Environmental Engineering because it has nothing to do with green design instead its more of Environmental issues study. Minor in something you feel will go in hand with your Architecture Engineering major!!
Good Luck!!

Question: Engineering or Architecture? If i wanted to buy land and build houses on it what would be the better choice? I know it takes money to buy the land or big parcels of land...and then build on it...My parents told me they would help me out as they do have the money. So is this a good way to go? right now i'm at a community college....i was thinking civil engineering but i think that might not be what i thought it was....and i think architecture might be the way to go.... One of the big points is that i want to own a business someday. So is Architecture the way to go?....or engineering?
Answer: Architect!
Question: What is the difference between software architecture vs. software engineering? Looking for an online school--some offer software architecture rather than engineering.
Answer: Typically the term architecture is used to refer to a design type of skill or area of speciality where as engineering is more generic. Architecture deals with what are the requirement and how it will be designed.
Software engineering deals with everything from requirements, through design, through testing, through release.
For example, I am an Infrastructure Architect which is a specialized area of software engineering focusing on the upfront aspects of deleloping a system. I don't, necessarily, actually get involved in putting the system together, installing software, etc.
When you talk about software architecture you are concerned about the requirements, design and standards used in the design. You wouldn't be doing any actually coding or testing.
Note: that this terms are often badly abused.
Question: whats the worlds best architecture and engineering school? i want to study abroad. i live in the USA and i want to study engineering and architecture whats the highest raked school in the WORLD
Answer: well. i would strongly recommend you to go to Tong Ji university in Shanghai, China. Tong Ji U has a great reputation in architecture and engineering.
you know, shanghai now is one of the major cities worldwide, and China is a developing country, more and more buildings will be built in the future, so it is easy to get a job for a architect.
Question: Engineering or architecture help please? I wanna be an architect or an engineer, Is there such an architect that does naval ships, or submarines, underwater bases etc? lol it sounds weird but im wondering.
With engineering, Im interested in mechanical and civil engineering, What is the math require for this? Im not that great math, Not brain dead, but im not the best math student, Im in year 9, is it to late to get good or should I jump back into reality?
Also, with architecture how good at math do you need to be?
Answer: You need to be good at math for either field but if you work hard enough and aren't a complete idiot it shouldn't be to bad. I am currently an AE student and the math requirements are cal 1 - 4, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra. For architecture school it is cal 1 and 2 I think, I could be wrong. But you wont sleep as an architecture student, lots of projects.
Question: A little advice from an expert about engineering and architecture.? I am astudent who want to study architecture in the future. But i am not good at free hand sketching or drawing pictures. So what can i do? Do i have to change my field or what?
If you know about engineering, can u tel me the difference between architecture and civil engineer.Which one is benefitial from market perspective? Which one needs more phsics knowledge?Which one needs more drawing talent? Thanks!
Answer: Engineers seldom draw by hand anymore; they use AutoCAD.
Civil Engineering is extremely broad. You can be a designer, in which case your understanding of physics must be (or become) solid. They are the ones who concern themselves with the behavior of a structure when forces are applied to it. If you are a contractor, you may not need to analyze structures as much, but may need to use AutoCAD regardless.
Architects in general are more on the artistic side (even though some people who are known as architects are actually more like engineers). Engineers joke that the engineer makes the building, and the architect chooses what color it will be painted. In reality, the architect decides how a structure will look, and engineers are at their mercy, charged with designing it to look the way the architect wants, while being as strong as required by the codes.
If an engineer has detailers to do most of the drawing work, then he might not have to do as much drawing, and concern himself primarily with determining and approving the design.
Architects probably are more marketing oriented, because they work with the customer to determine what look the structure should have. On the other hand, if the structure is a bridge or tunnel, then it might be a more bare bones structure, in which case the customer (usually the Department of Transportation or military) may work directly with the designers.
I realize my answer is ambiguous as far as who is an architect and who is an engineer, but that's kind of how it is.
Question: How long does it take to study architecture engineering?
Answer: All your life. It is a passion to be able to put your thoughts and ideas on paper and then see them become reality.
The actual study in school is about six years. Then a few years as an apprentise, during which time you will want to get your masters degree. (If you really have exceptional talent then just a couple of years as an apprentise) If you want to teach then you will go on for your doctorate, another 3 or so years.
One of the best places to gain inspiration is from nature. Keep mindful of your surroundings and blend into them the thoughts and feelings of your creations.
Frank Lloyd Wright is in my mind the best human architech that ever lived. Study his buildings and you see the mind of the man behind the buildings.

Question: What is the best Engineering/ Architecture school? I want to become an archiect & engineer what are the top schools right now? I already know the ivy league ones, besides those please.
PE2008 you are wrong i intern for someone who is licensed in both. Its not a hard thing, he did a double major. Yea its more work but i dont my current GPA is a 4.5 i think i will be okay!
Answer: The "best" Engineering and Architecture schools may not be best for you if you get accepted but can''t handle the workload and drop out.
Also, you need to choose between Engineer and Architect. Very few people can be licensed as both, thought there is something called Architectural Engineering.
Question: What is the more difficult major and why? Architecture or civil engineering.? So my friend and I have been having a back and forth for awhile so I wanted some other opinions. Basically we want to know which major is considered more difficult an architecture major or a civil engineering major and why.
Thanks
Answer: It's a somewhat unfair comparison because for those people who would excel in Civil Engineering tend to not do well in architecture and vice versa. It's basically comparing right brain and left brain functions. Look at it this way, the most difficult class for most architectural students is structures. Whereas Civil engineering students are not even required to take free hand drawing or art classes.
It is "easier" to get into a Civil Engineering program than into an Architecture Program. What I mean easier is there is less competition. There are more univerities offering a Civil Engineering degree and those programs also accept more applicants. There are less Architecture schools and those programs have limited availability because of spatial requirements of a studio.

Question: What is the role of Computer Architecture in Computer Engineering? Can anyone please explain the role of Computer Architecture in Computer Engineering? I have an assignment to do on the topic of "the role of Computer Architecture in Computer Engineering". Can anyone help me plz?
Thank you Pramod. Seems like we both got same assignment. :)
Answer: Hey I got the same assignment in the other side of the world! To make the things worse I have to "briefly describe in two pages"! Imagine two pages of a Word document. Here's something that I have come up with:
start with explaining what computer architecture is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_architecture
Then say something about what computer engineering is. Computer engineering is designing computer system to solve some problem. This includes hardware too. Not only hardware but also the lower level of software also desperately need the knowledge on computer architecture.
Elaborate this and you'll get two pages.
Best of luck with your assignment!
Question: Difference between Architecture or Engineering? I have the option to take CAD class in Engineering or Architecture. I am not certain which one to take. What is the difference. Any help is greatly apprenticed.
Answer: Archi CAD focuses more on aesthetic design like floor plans, furniture design, simple orthographic and perspective views.
Engineering CAD class will focus on structural design like the connection between steel to steel, machine tools drawings etc.
Question: what univerities in malaysia are good at architecture engineering?
Answer: Try Malay University in KL
Question: I'm torn between Architecture and biomedical engineering? I''m torn between two choices architecture and biomedical engineering I really love architecture but i have to study it away from home and its very expensive for my family because architecture is very primitave in my country. My second choice is Biomedical I'll study it at a good university in my country at a low cost what should i do?
Answer: if you like architecture, I suggest you do it because you will love it. Its a fascinating career and you are right its expensive, especially if you are studying out of the country. the materials are also expensive and the career is VERY time consuming , but it is a great career, you will love it and you wont regret paying the money
Question: what is the difference between architecture and engineering? I'm trying to decide on a college major and I don't know much about either of the two.
Answer: An architect determines the specifics of a structure or design, such as its layout, its colors, the materials it will be made out of, its aesthetics, its capacity, whether or not it is handicap accessible, whether or not it is powered by solar panels or off the grid....etc.
An engineer determines the sizes of each beam, column and stud to ensure that the building won't fall down. The engineer also calculates what size heater and AC the building will require so that the people inside won't freeze in the winter. The engineer will also calculate electrical loads for the appliances it will have...etc.
Essentially, the architect comes up with the VISION and the engineer makes it work. Though architects are very familiar with structural engineering, they do not perform the calculations. They usually leave it to a structural engineer due to the complexity and severity of the calcs.
Question: Architecture, Engineering? what should i do? I'm confused, Look my parents have money and they will be financing the houses/townhouses/etc i make.. but what should i study in order for me to do that? architecture, civil engineering or architectural engineering? i love designing houses and small communities, its been my passion for ever! so what should i study? i want to design and build the homes..
Answer: architect, it's more fun
