Engineering Career Training

What different types of engineering careers are there?

Engineering is defined as the practical application of science to commerce or industry.  Because the field is so wide, it includes many different specialties within engineering.  You may choose to focus on mechanical engineering, millwright civil engineering, electrical engineering, process engineering among many other engineering careers.

Biomedical Engineering

Biomedical engineering is an engineering that utilizes engineering concepts and principles into medical aspects. Biomedical engineers basically design, maintain and calibrate all the medical pieces of equipment that we see in the hospitals and medical centers. They do study biology but just for the sake of knowledge. The future is bright for this since the health industry is never down!
Bio-engineering or bio-chemical engineers deal with operations "mass and heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics..." in live systems, so they apply chemical engineering principles toward designing a biological reactor or unit. They are very common in the food industry, drug industry, Army "biological weapons..." where enzymes and proteins are widely engineered by those types of engineers... They are in a high demand too, but depends on your location, like in the East Coast, it's the medical that's higher in demand, but in the Mid West, it's the other. Nowadays, all engineers pretty much start the same, salary wise $(50,000-57,000) also depends where you live.

Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings. Civil engineers work on the details of building projects (could be buildings, bridges, or something else)...how many columns will it need, how far apart should they be, what type of concrete should be used, what would happen to it in the event of an earthquake, etc. Urban planners work on creating and evaluating more general plans for how cities should look and function...they might develop ideas like making a certain street pedestrian-only or banning buildings over four stories high in a certain neighborhood.

Electrical Engineering

Electrical engineering is a field of engineering that generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics and electromagnetism. An electrical engineer designs and makes high level decisions on how the electrical system is put together, operates, etc. Electrical engineers generally deal with large-power applications, such as utility and industrial power systems, whereas electronics engineers deal with low-power systems such as computers and communications and smaller electronic components. There is much overlap but I would be careful going to school for Electrical Engineering while wanting to be called an Electronics Engineer.

Computer Engineering

Computer engineering deals with the hardware of a computer. Software engineering, also known as computer science, deals with the software, or programming, side of computers. With computer engineering (CE), you'll be taking a lot of electrical engineering classes and technical courses. With computer science (CS), it'll involve programing languages and syntax. If you do choose CS, be prepared to learn a lot of new languages, since there are a great many ways to code a program.

Environmental Engineering

Environmental engineering is the application of science and engineering principles to improve the environment (air, water, and/or land resources), to provide healthy water, air, and land for human habitation and for other organisms, and to remediate polluted sites. Environmental engineer make sure things are running according to enviro regulations and interact with agencies like EPA, they work on coming up with ideas on how to meet these requirements.

Manufacturing Engineering

Manufacturing is a field of engineering that generally deals with different practices of manufacturing, the research and development of tools, processes, machines and equipment. Manufacturing Engineering focuses more on how to actually make designs, with more emphasis on plastics processing, machining operations, automation systems, etc. Manufacturing also has a greater emphasis on production and operations management principles that are in use by nearly all modern manufacturing companies.

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering is an engineering discipline that was developed from the application of principles from physics and materials science. Mechanical Engineering focuses more on design and theory, with a larger emphasis on mathematical analysis of those designs. Mechanical Engineers use the core principles as well as other knowledge in the field to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, motor vehicles, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices and more.

Chemical Engineering

Chemical engineering is the branch of engineering that deals with the application of physical science (e.g. chemistry and physics), and life sciences (e.g. biology, microbiology and biochemistry) with mathematics, to the process of converting raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms. Almost all production companies need chemical engineers. The work includes finding new ways of converting raw material into a finished products. It all starts in the lab, then the process can be applied in the workplace. It is the responsibility of the engineer to make sure that the product is economically viable.Chemical engineers can work in a range of fields namely generation of electricity, mines, food and beverages.Biochemistry is almost the some but in this field, plants are used to make medicine

Are there any good distance learning Engineering degrees?

Engineering programs are closely monitored to satisfy the requirements dictated by the country or region's engineering organisations. The criteria are pretty stringent and include lab work, classes, qualified teaching etc. It's very unlikely that an online program meets these criterias.

It requires a lot of work and time, which is probably why none are given as evening programs since they would take forever to finish. You could go to school and get the technical BS you've always wanted and pursue your dream career. You've got lots of possibilities.

What is the best Engineering Career today, easy, designing and good earnings?

First learn to continuously challenge yourself, not find the "easy" job. Mechanical and/or structural engineering are fascinating fields, lots of opportunity and demand for quality people. Most design work is done on computers, you don't have to engineer tech products or software to be using technology in the process.
